Breakfast food was well cooked and tasty but tables were too crowded
More room between tables needed and more room around drinks machinesCOFFEE WAS AWFUL
Location. Very comfortable large bed.
Even having paid to park , no places were available . Complained at reception but no refund offered. Breakfast quality leaves a lot to be desired.
The location was perfect and the hotel was very grand and beautiful. The room was good.
The springs on the mattress on the bed had gone and it was very saggy.
Location Hotel was beautiful ornate staff were very good ...
Thought the room was not really worth money very basic and a bit dusty on table and tv table but bed was very comfortable and bathroom ok
Really nice Indian decent lady checked us in. The bath was great and the hotel is close to the town centre. Parking was good and £5 for 24 hours is fine.
The light switch in room 116 bathroom took ages to pull and get light one but could be easily switched off so needs fixing. The windows were geared up to open a little bit but did not so really hard to get air in. The fridge temp was not cold enough.
The location is very central. Right next to the train station and a very easy walk to restaurants and cafes. Easy access to bus stops aswell.
I asked for extra heating in my room as it was freezing one night but got told there were no heaters to help as the radiators were not on due to being on central heating which I found quite strange. There was also no extraction fan in the bathroom leaving everything in there very damp and condensated. Not having a warm room also meant my towel never dried after a shower, although I did have 2 in the room they were both always wet.
All good
Room clean nice side view staff nice all good been before will go again
Nothing
Location
Having to pay to park
Excellent breakfast in a magnificent setting We also had our evening meal in the hotel which was also good - the staff are lovely and very attentive
Didn’t really like the fact we had no window in our room - we assumed we were somewhere in the middle of the building.
Good location. Good for a place to sleep as a stop off for the price. I imagine it was considered quite luxurious back in its day.
The downstairs was lovely if a bit old fashioned. Staff seemed a bit surly. Rooms were a bit shabby and the bathroom pretty grim, smelly and cracked tiles. No cold water. Very thin walls. LOTS of signs. Drunk people hanging around outside.
Friendly staff. Old worldy atmosphere. Reception and bar and lounge areas comfortable and warm.
Nothing DISliked but it’s a grand old place that is rather tired. But it has improved over previous years and is trying.
Excellent one night stay suited our requirements very well
Nothing
Beautiful building with a really good restaurant. An excellent location, near to the train station and lots of restaurants and tourist attractions. The staff were really nice.
The urban/city double was a decent size room but didn't have a regular double bed so was too small for a couple to comfortably sleep, so we upgraded. The pillows and mattress on both beds had quite hard mattresses and pillows.
How clean the hotel was
The breakfast was no hot and the sausages were not the greatest
Staff great, location great
Rooms are tired , but it is value
Location Affordable Character
Not enough staff on the bar after a show one staff member dealing with drinks and bar snacks so bar left unattended too long queue for night cap
Nice, comfortable room in quiet part of hotel
Bathroom light didn’t work but that wasn’t a problem
Beautiful building and a lovely large room. Great location
Not being able to check in until after 3.30pm. Lots of people sat in reception waiting to be allocated a room. Not sure if there weren't enough housekeeping staff, but very frustratig
The location and the building
Searving myself breakfast even morning tea . Did,nt use the pool as there was an extra charge . Paying for car parking it should have been free for guests .
Location is great
Bit dated
Great value for the price
The staff were excellent very attentive a smooth check in although having to pay £5 per night for parking was a bit questionable. Food was great value and delicious. The bed was comfortable.
The hotel is a bit dated and the room i had was cold but there were heaters in the room so that was fine. The £5/ night parking was a bit weird. The staggered pricing for food was a bit strange. Breakfast was one price if booked by 4pm the day before or more expensive on the day. Nobody explained the spa facilities but I wasnt there for that. The rooms aren't cleaned daily and there was someone else's shower scrub left in my room.
The location was great, walking distance to Buxton Town. Staff who we met face to face were very helpful and friendly.
No reserved parking even though husband is disabled, hotel flatly refused to reserve a parking place. The interior is grand but incredibly tired and worn. Restaurant food was great one night, meal sent back the next, same with breakfast, very inconsistent. Based on this I won't be visiting again.
The Palace hotel is absolutely beautiful, the food was excellent and the staff were so friendly and helpful
We were in room 178 which was perfect, however it was difficult to carry our luggage with so many stairs to climb, I am in my 70's and the reason we were staying in the hotel was for my husband's 80th birthday which was celebrated with our respective families. One point I will mention is the fan extractor in the bathroom was not functioning and this left our toiletries and the towels very damp
The price we paid for one night was incredible value for money. The room was spacious and spotless. The staff were very accommodating and the girl on reception was extremely helpful. We had a couple of drinks in the bar at night and the drink prices weren't excessive. The bar area was also very comfortable. The location was a perfect location for going in to town and to the Opera house where we was going.
I honestly cannot pick fault at all with this hotel.
Everything about our stay was good. This was our 2nd trip within a month.
The property and setting are beautiful especially the reception area with its sweeping staircase and chandelier. Staff were lovely and helpful.
We had prepaid for breakfast and evening meal, the breakfast was fine and had everything you could possibly need. However, the menu for the evening meal wasn’t as good as we’d expected. Because we had paid there was a separate menu for this which was ok but not brilliant. You could pay a supplement on another menu which had a better choice, but we felt we’d paid enough anyway.
Our room was upgraded on arrival which was a nice surprise. Lovely room and receptionist very pleasant.
We found everything good. Had a lovely breakfast which kept us going till later that day.
I paid more for imagining the room would look like their description but when i see the room it is not matched to the description and we got normal room
grtting normal room when we buy something else
The decor was beautiful. The lounge area was very comfortable
There was nothing to criticise
The price...Good value0
Slightly tired looking, with cheapish bed furniture. No walk in shower...or handrail on wall to assist getting into the bath for a shower
Breakfast was excellent! Location in Buxton was great! Easy walk into town. Staff were great very friendly.
Room was a little dated and could use a touch of modernising - that said it wasnt uncomfortable in the slightest.
Very friendly lady on reception, really helpful, I didn't get her name but next time we stay I'll let you know
Nothing really, maybe the parking charge but im being really picky, the room was very good value so im not complaining
Very giood
Parking very tight in places.
Wspanialy pobyt wszystko schludne i czyste , personel przyjazny i miły, blisko do centrum miasta , bardzo polecam

Good location, easy to park, nice clean large room.
a six seater dining table, which was no use, would have preferred a sofa. Nowhere to sit to watch tv other than the bed. No safe in the room. Room servicing not available unless you specifically ask for it. and then it depends on how many others are also asking for it. Two adults in the room, but only one large bath towel. The floors creaked everywhere you walked. this included upstairs rooms, so we could hear people walking around during the night.
Lovely clean and comfortable room with great coffee. Beautiful location and surroundings. Elegant with old charm Wonderful beakfast.
Risotto a bit tasteless and didn't seem to be much salmon..
Good location.
Stunning place and located right in the centre.
Very Classy hotel, beautiful staircase,
Carpark was full and we had to pay to park quite a long walk away.
Well situated in Buxton. Somewhat scruffy paintwork around but generally fine for a visit.
Buffet breakfast excellent, one of the best I've experienced.
Slow waiter service at dinner, very frustrating to wait so long for the menu & drinks to be dropped off. Then too long between courses. No excuse having a coach party in or being understaffed. Food was excellent after long waiting time. We will return but won't go half board next time due to slow service.
The location is great in the centre of the town. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful.
The room was dark and needed more lights. Paying £5 for parking was unexpected.
The room was quiet and I slept well.
I booked through booking .com and was treated with indifference when booking in.I was unaware of the car parking charge and that breakfast had not been included but was TOLD at least three times,'It's on the website.' The receptionist never looked up from the keyboard during the whole depressing interaction. At dinner the fish was a small portion, not a fish and overcooked. At breakfast the staff were efficient. The dining room was cramped with the tables to close to move about especially with the serve yourself layout with people bumping into tables and one another when negotiating breakfast. When I handed my room key in as I left I got a cherry smile and an enthusiastic good bye. It would have been nice to have that level of enthusiasm during my arrival and stay.Maybe be more accommodating instead of assuming everyone can negotiate your website.
Very good location in the centre of Buxton
The rooms were tired and there was a lack of car parking spaces.
Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice with egg options available, porridge and a continental breakfast if preferred. Room was very clean and beds comfortable, decor in hotel is fantastic particularly the grand staircase and the dining room. The three course evening meal was exceptionally good quality for the price with four options and for an extra charge several more were available but we selected from the available choices and were greatly impressed!
Parking is an issue if you arrive late as the hotel is always busy, not sure if they were all guest vehicles, possibly the parking should be better controlled so that overnight guests have a guaranteed space. Only one person on reception when we arrived early evening, who seemed to be struggling to cope with a large influx of guests, possibly a second member of staff on standby to help when things get busy?
Beautiful building and so relaxing. Perfect seating areas and lots of them. Staff were excellent.
Would have liked a more extensive menu for dinner, but what we had was perfect!
Good location
Really close to centre of Buxton, just a short walk, breakfast very good, staff all pleasant. We ate out each evening, lots of choice very short distance away. Would definitely stay here again. Beautiful period hotel
Nothing
Lovely location, great room
I've stayed before and it was as expected. But the bathroom was fantastic.
Perhaps the overall atmosphere is a bit dated now
Location location
Nothing
Worst hotel we have ever stayed at It should be renamed Fawlty Towers Staff poor and hotel policies awful Never stayed in a hotel where you have to ask for your room to be cleaned Impossible to get a bath mat Restaurant staff unable to split a dinner bill as they couldn't divide by 2 nor did they have a calculator This staff member became very rude and threatening No refund when a formal complaint made to customer services
Spectacular area
Old and traditional
Got no breakfast
Everything. No heating no phone in room no help from staff
The venue is beautiful.
The location of my room
It was a good location.
The room we had did not have any windows in and we only had one towel in the bathroom that was stain with yellow marks.
A wonderful grand hotel in a great location. Room was clean and comfortable, and a lively self serve breakfast.
Impressive building with lots of original features. Excellent value for money and in a great location for walking into town and the surrounding area. The staff were friendly and the room clean.
Parking is limited.
The place is grand, the building is lovely inside and out
Is very dates, you can hear anything from the other rooms and the vibe is for older people.
Hotel is beautiful. Staff on reception excellent. Room very clean and plenty of space to sit and relax.
Nothing really.
Explanation breakfast And lots of seats to relax in
Everything ok
Lovely location clean and spacious
Nothing
The public areas are very grand.
Our bedroom though large would have benefited from modernisation. The bed was uncomfortable and the bathroom badly laid out.
Great location; good value.
Dated and tired. No parking spaces left. Only one towel
good location wifi now availble free of charge very clean
room was small no veiw tile missing in bathroom not easy to acess narrow steep stairs bathroom ventilation didnt work no spare pillows
Decor and ambiance
Set in Beautiful grounds.
Room decoration was not as impressive as the building but for the price I was happy.

An excellent location for our needs. Excellent pool, but surprised to be charged extra to use this pool. Plenty of comfortable seating around the hotel. Pleasant garden area.
The hotel was very crowded so breakfast supplies ran out unless you came down early. Content of breakfast not very inspiring. No fresh fruit our choice of bread. For a so-called standard double room - the room was very small and poorly equipped. Bathroom large but poor over bath shower, and limited facilities. Fortunately the climate during our stay was good, otherwise the bathroom would have been very cold.
Location excellent for railway station and Opera House
Our room was quite small and access to the en suite difficult
Old fashioned charm. Clean modernised in keeping
Stepping back in time
The building is beautiful and is in a great location. The grounds are lovely and the staff were fantastic, everyone I spoke to was kind and very helpful. Spa was great as well. A lovely break all in all.
Room was a bit basic decor wise but perfectly comfortable and had everything needed
Cold water in bathroom And couldn’t shower. Complained and told this would be resolved.. the team did nothing
Cold water in bathroom And couldn’t shower. Complained and told this would be resolved.. the team did nothing
This is an older hotel and we were unsure what to expect. It was amazing! This hotel is perfect for relaxing, reading a paper or book or meeting up with other guests. Not many hotels provide comfortable seating these days. And if this is classed old fashioned, long may it continue. What a beautiful hotel close to tourist attractions and shops.
The kettle lead was too short for comfort and a lamp on each side of the bed would be useful. There was another lamp but no socket. Neither of these were huge issues but would be nice to have.
The food the ambiance the staff were lovely
The bed was a bit uncomfortable but I was so tired I did sleep
Location central for all amenities especially the train station 👍. Town centre a short walk. Breakfast excellent with plenty of choice lovely that there was oat and soya milk readily available I really appreciated that. Staff friendly on reception and and in the restaurant.
All fine nothing to comment
Although we had a compact room it was very comfy and spacious , the hotel is located close to all the Restaurants in the area
i didnt like the 5 pounds per day parking fee
Good access to city and surrounding countryside. Lovely atmosphere
The location was good, within walking distance to shops, pubs etc. we had executive rooms which were quite spacious and well kept. I didn’t have breakfast but my husband did and he enjoyed it. The hotel is a remarkable building
We didn’t like that the hotel was cashless, in fact it encouraged us to go to other venues for drink and food where we could use real money. We did use the restaurant one evening as it was my friend’s birthday who we had come away with, apart from myself they ordered the steak, to be told a few minutes later from the waitress they had run out, which was disappointing as it was meant to be a special meal, the alternative was just ok. Having to pay a daily charge to park your car on the hotel’s private car park when staying there is a definite no no, and taking into account the price of the rooms I would have expected them to be cleaned daily not just if we asked for them to be done.
The hotel has a wonderful ambience and is perfectly placed for visiting the town and local restaurants. The staff on reception, without exception, couldn't have been more helpful. There was also a games room with pool, darts, board games and an outdoor chess set in the grounds which we made full use of.
The breakfast was good with lots of choice but nobody seems to check when things like eggs and bread run out. We stayed 4 days and this happened every morning. However, they were quickly replaced when the staff were notified and they were all really friendly.
Lovely hotel. Convenient location. Friendly staff
Liked everything
Loved the Hotel. Victorian features and well maintained. Room was comfortable. Staff were great.
Shower head was fixed, making showering difficult. Went for lunch and had soup and sandwich. Came on a sizzling hot platter, which half cooked the sandwich and lettuce. The soup was disgusting, sorry, no other way of putting it. We sent it back.
It is a charming old building, but has been very well cared for.
It is very popular with OAP bus tours. But the car park is a one way past repetition, therefore when multiple buses dropping off clients, creates a dely in leaving the car park.
Downstairs was lovely - a very large hotel. Dinner B and B was a good deal as the meal was so large. Breakfast was hectic with coachloads pushing for food! Rooms were clean but very old fasioned.
rooms need modernising - a lot!
roon recently refurbished staff were just sokind wheni had difficulties
The hotel was in a great location with a short walk to the shops and restaurants, there was a good selection of breakfast items in the morning.
The bathroom needed a lot of work, there were a couple of broken floor tiles and what appeared to be blood on the walls and the light switch cord, this then made us focus on smaller items such as a hair in the bed when we first pulled the duvet back, dirty bath, other people’s hair on the bathroom floor and generally poor finishing in the bathroom. With the cleanliness being a big issue we were not comfortable during our stay.
Location, breakfast
Extra charge for swimming pool
Beautiful
A broken kettle
Room was clean, water was hot, bed was comfortable, Breakfast was good, lounge area around bar was comfortable, bar was well stocked.
A toilet that leaked from the waste pipe, despite me reporting it 3 times it never got fixed. Very bad evening meal in the restaurant, after waiting over 30 minutes to receive our main course, the food was very poor. We also weren't told by the checking in staff that if we paid for the dinner at check in we would save money. We didn't eat dinner in the restaurant the other 3 nights we stayed as there were plenty of better places to eat in town. The room was clean, but basic and the decor was tired and old. The front and entrance of the hotel look very grand but this is not reflected in the standard rooms. Although they charge £5 per 24 hours to park at the hotel, they cannot guarantee you a space. If you go out for the day you may not be able to park when you return if there is a wedding reception on.
Posh but not snobbish, very comfortable
Nothing
Excellent room The whole hotel was very clean, comfortable and cosy
A couple of staff members let the rest of the staff down by their rudeness
Close to town. A very nice place to spend a night. (Managed to book a room without a window) but for a quick getaway it was fine.
The upgrade
Not being able to check in as it was so busy.
