This was not our first tome staying and hopefully wont be the last. But you certainly would need a car as although close to Westport its still a drive to town, at only 10 minutes you get the best of both worlds.

We liked everything about this house which was thoughtfully kitted out to provide every comfort - a real home from home - so many surprises inside and outside in the garden that we happily spent a lot of time there - A young family would love the games, the art pencils, the swing and the space to wander through the large garden.

Its not that I didnt like it but it was difficult to actually find the property - need Google maps, or some signage or indicator on the roadside...

The house is in the countryside at the end of a very quiet cul-de-sac...and it is very quiet. Hares wander through the garden which is done up with loving care (and there lots of fairy lights at night!) and kept immaculately. The location is about 10-12 minutes to Westport by car. The house itself is how a country house should be and how air bnb was when it started: it is a family home, not an impersonal hotel room. It is everything it should be, but if a traveller is looking for a city hotel, it is not and it should not be either, it is more than that: it is perfect in its own ways.

Shower is electric and a bit slow.

La route est étroite pour y arriver et bordée par une nature foisonnante!

Absolutely perfect home environment, which made it have a super comfortable vibe in a rural idyll. We loved how quiet it was and the sounds of nature all around us and the morning sunrises. Easy drive to Westport and other locations.

I can't think of any negatives because it was a real home.

The location was quiet and peaceful in a beautiful part of Mayo . Wingback chairs and stove in kitchen area are a real feature. The kids loved the book shops in Westport ,Croagh Patrick, Old Head beach and the people as always are lovely.

Photographs of the property on booking.com showed the property at its best. (some time ago ).This property has such great potential- however essential external maintainence to a bay window and a re paint externally is required as is a review of electrical safety due to a strong bakelite smell in sitting room . New mattresses in bedrooms and safe chairs in kitchen to sit on also required. signage at bottom of road also required .All very achievable surely ????.

Spacious,well stocked kitchen , games etc

Poor mattresses, sheets were thread bare minute holes,we found alternative sheets still poor quality, dirty mat in bathroom generally dusty and cobwebs

We had a lovely stay. So quiet.

We loved everything about Birch Tree Cottage, the tranquility of cottages' location, to all the conscientious touches provided by the hosts for our stay (boardgames, books, toys to any condiments you could possibly need in the presses). Also, the hosts were super quick to reply to any queries we had and were very pleasent to deal with. We were very comfortable and had a wonderful stay at Birch Tree Cottage. We would love to return again in the future.

Facilities were excellent in a remote relaxing location

Dave & Karen were great hosts. It was very easy to get in touch with them and responded promptly to any queries. The house was about a 10-minute drive away from westport town, which was perfect for us. The house itself was lovely & on beautiful grounds. The house was very homely, and you can see how much pride they take in the house with all the lovely decor. They even had a map inside the house of all the local attractions, which was very helpful. If I was going back to westport, I wouldn't hesitate to book their home again.

Lots of careful thought and loving care has gone into this home. Everything we needed was there. Lovely grounds to walk. My daughters loved the swing!

Location was good

Email providing key box code and eircode was not sent (property owner said it had been sent 21st march but we didn’t receive it until 28th march - could be a legitimate mistake) Fridge could have been a lot cleaner. Some of the towels were damp. Fire guard in the sitting room was more for child protection and gaps in mesh were too large to prevent a spark from fire coming out. As a result we didn’t light fire and as a result room was very cold. Also a large item of furniture was in front of radiator in kitchen area which seem to prevent heat circulating around the room. It was very disappointing that there were no irish channels. To be fair, this property has a lot of potential and most of the problems we encountered can probably be easily addressed.

Pleasant bungalow with plenty of room for four persons and a huge garden. Lots of kids' games available. Useful booklet explaing heating, rubbish disposal, etc. Convenient for Westport. A decent choice for families with active kids.

Owners unresponsive to questions; one WC / bathroom, the other end of the house from the bedrooms; house not well serviced before our arrival (missing light bulb, one light not working); uncomfortable beds, narrow access road.

The cottage is in a beautiful location, quiet and peaceful, and a short drive to Westport where there's plenty to do and see. The cottage itself is impeccably kept, very clean, comfortable, and cosy. The owners provided great instructions and were available if we needed anything. I would certainly recommend this property. It was fantastic. Thank you!

arrived on a wet dark night so it was a little tricky to find as it’s up a long track road.

Very comfortable cottage with excellent facilities in a very quiet area within short driving distance from Westport. The whole cottage is incredibly clean with fresh bedclothes and towels. We enjoyed the winters stay, we plan on re-visiting during the warmer summer to see the difference.

We really appreciated all the toys and games in the house it kept the kids entertained for hours! Beds are very comfortable we had a nice stay overall, great if you have kids.

It's an old house so it's a but chilly, remember to bring your own fuel for the fires if you stay in winter that would make it very warm and cozy. Could be cleaner hair in the plug holes and sinks etc, hand soaps near empty etc It would be a great place to stay in Summer.

Beautiful cottage very well maintained. Gorgeous setting with everything you could need.

We enjoyed everything about the cottage and its location. We were there for a wedding at Ballintuber Abbey so the location was perfect. The hosts left a little book about the cottage which was very helpful.

Very nice cottage with everything you need for a pleasant stay.

The garden was so spacious. The kids loved kicking football out there. And there were loads of outdoor toys provided. But we didn't have time to enjoy them all.

I honestly can't think of anything. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer to make the most of the house
