Private and secluded. Small yet spacious. Beautiful fireplace. Well appointed kitchen. Comfortable beds and quality linen. Wildlife free to roam and come close to home. Check in was easy. Wish we could have stayed longer. Easy access into town for great restaurants.

Die Unterkunft ist sauber und gepflegt. Wir würden auf alle Fälle gerne wieder kommen. Man hat viele Tiere gesehen direkt vor der Haustür. Die Wanderwege sind gut beschildert. Man kommt gut zurecht. Es ist genügend Feuerholz da falls es kalt ist, so war es bei uns jetzt. Aber der Ofen macht kuschelig warm. Das Frühstück ist so reichlich, das würde glatt für mehrere Personen reichen. Es ist die absolute Ruhe und man kann richtig gut relaxen.

Just what we needed to unwind..

Nice big bed, although average bedding Peaceful spot with great mountain views. The unit was a bit out of the way of the animals, but we really enjoyed our sightings on the way in and out. Indoor fireplace was great. The unit was clean, and linen / towels were changed during our stay.

Only two each of every crockery and cutlery item was a real hassle. The WiFi has some wobbles. The suppled wood was unsuitable for braaiing. Limited storage for groceries and clothing.

Separate bungalows works very well for Colleagues travelling together

Stunning farm and house. It was fully equiped with everything we needed. Loved the hiking trails and the animals. The fresh air and everything was peacefull and quiet. Will definately go again. It's close to town and easy access and closeby farms that offered wine tastings.

Hot tub at Hadida cottage took very long to got heated properly.

The beauty and tranquillity far exceeded our expectations. Beautifully appointed chalet, with superb attention to detail. We felt 100% safe at all times. The vistas were sublime. Excellent, friendly and helpful staff. What a lovely surprise!!

There was nothing not to like!

Very private , just what we want. Beautiful scenery with mountains and fruit orchards in spring flowering. Very good sightseeing trips in the area. We enjoyed the walk in nature. The heated pool were a bonus! Will recommend it to anyone looking for a private ,peaceful breakaway!

While the cottage is pleasant, very quaint and full of character, the space is limited all-round and the furnishing too rustic/dated for my taste. Hey, but it really suits the game reserve and environment. I'm perhaps too used to a bit of luxury, esp. ito space, furnishes and finishings. The cottage however boasts one of the best splash/spa pools I had seen and is just outside the cottage with spectacular views. The place was a good/lovely experience nonetheless.

The eagle cottage is the furthest up the path and we did not see any other people for the whole stay. Ostriches and zebra casually walked by on the main path. The quietness and immersion in nature was amazing. The views were stunning and the venue as a whole was beautifully kept. When we did need assistance, the staff were able to assist promptly.

Due to the honor system and previous guests clearly not reading the instructions, the cutting board in the kitchen was not clean and we had to ask for a broom as the one that was meant to be there had gone missing. This is no fault of the venue, but rather that of previous guests.

Welbedacht is a hidden gem. Just far enough out of town to feel like countryside, but not too far. You stay in a Nature reserve and are surrounded by Springboks, Quagga, Ostrich and various bird species. For the hikers there are a few beautiful routes that you must explore. The showers in our Hadeda cottage were fantastic and very hot. And the complimentary soap, shampoo and conditioner in the shower was a nice bonus. The electric blankets on the beds also made a big positive difference to our overall experience. The fireplace inside works very well and made the interior nice and cosy. The wood that was delivered was nice and dry.

Our unit, Hadeda Cottage, was very well situated, but the noise from the farm workers houses just behind it was disturbing on Saturday evening. And the kitchen area wasn't as equipped as it should be, but when I asked for a whisk, it was quickly delivered. No container for braaivleis, or big salads. Or any ramekins or small holders for sauces etc. We also tried to heat up the very big hot tub, but in this cold weather it was to no avail. Maybe because it was too big, and did not have a cover. In Summer it will be perfect.

Everything

Cerenity and calmness, you feel it as soon as you stop there. Words really can't explain how at peace we felt.

Located far enough away from the town of Tulbagh that you feel as if you are truly in the wilderness. Pleasant easy walking trails. Cottages spaced far enough apart so as not to disturb any neighbours. Surrounded by excellent wine farms for wine tasting experiences.

The cabin was really well-equipped and was exceptionally neat. It was also very private and the trails were accessible. The proprietors were good at answering questions. A lovely stay.

The beds were uncomfortable in the sense that there were too many blankets and ventilation was not very good. We were unsure whether we could leave the windows open. That being said, had it been a cold, winter's weekend, it would have been fabulous.

Exceptional location with stunning views of the mountains. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub while taking in the view. The cottage is comfortable and we appreciated the privacy.

The view is amazing, right in the nature! Our favourite was the out door facilities. While enjoying your private splash pool, you overlook the whole of the Tulbach valley. The outdoor braai area is well laid out with surfaces for preparation, a table and neat floor (in nature), breakfast on the covered porch. We had to leave early due to the massive storm that hit the Western Cape, and the host even offered us a voucher for that night - we will definitely be back! The staff is extremely accommodating, very friendly and competent.

The quiet nights, scenic views of the mountains, being woken by birds chirping. Birds visiting the trees by our cottage to eat. The hot tub and the cottage had all the things we needed for the weekend. The hostess was friendly and helpful.

The hot tub and braai isn't covered when it rains and the stoep rains wet. Would've been beautiful to watch the rain in the stoep but still beautiful looking out the door and windows when it rains

How well structured it was particularly for someone into nature

This is our go to for relaxation and getting away from it all. You can go the entire stay without seeing one person, which is what is needed when you want to get away from it all.

Loved the splash pool on the front deck and the air-conditioner. Appreciated all the equipment supplied including the iron, hairdryer, coffee plunger, fire tools and the basket of wood. Perfect scenery and amazing visits by the birds, kwagga and springbok in the open space in front of the cottage (Stone Cottage).

One of the deck chairs had a hole in it, but we didn't need it. There was no body wash gel in the shower dispenser but we had our own soap anyway. Really nothing negative to say because it was an amazing stay at Stone Cottage.

Ein echtes Paradies! Schade, dass wir nur eine Nacht hier waren. Wir wären gerne länger geblieben. Süßes nettes Häuschen mit allem was man braucht. Ausstattung besser als erwartet. Lage und die ganze Anlage wunderschön und immer wieder haben wir beim Spaziergang die Tiere getroffen. Sollten wir wieder kommen, werden wir hier nochmal übernachten.

Wir würden kein Frühstück mehr buchen, da es von außerhalb gebracht wird , eine Stunde zu spät kam und nicht unser Geschmack war, aber das schmeckt anderen vielleicht besser und dadurch auf keinen Fall Punkte - Abzug. Wir waren hier sehr glücklich und zufrieden.

Problems with getting hot water

Breakfast not provided. Cottage was reasonable but not wonderful. It is more of a nature reserve than a game reserve. The birdlife was quite good.

Particularly that there was no one on site to greet us and explain the resort.

The breakfast box was excellent with special touches and tasty treats that were very filling, it exceeded my expectations. The peaceful environment surrounded by nature and the zebras, springbokkies and wildebeest and ostriches to mention just a few was so delightful to observe and be so close to it was a lovely overall experience and stay I would recommend it .

A bit far from the gate but still a great space.

Ein sehr, sehr schönes Resort, inmitten einer wunderschönen Natur! Unser gemietetes Haus war sehr gemütlich eingerichtet! Wir hatten sogar einen kleinen Pool. In der großen Anlage gibt es Springböcke, Gnus, Zebras, Vogelstrauße, Perlhühner, Pfauen und viele andere kleine Tiere zu sehen. Die Nachbarschaft bietet Pferdeausritte an, und das hat mir auch sehr großen Spaß gemacht. Ein Ort, wo man mal richtig abschalten kann. Das war nicht unser letzter Besuch dort❗️ Idylle pur❣️

Wir waren für uns und es war freie Sicht auf die Natur. Der Pool und die Terrasse waren toll!

Es gab kein abgetrenntes Schlafzimmer.

Wir hatten das Gum Tree Cottage, welches über 2 Schlafzimmer verfügte. Die Aussicht ist einfach atemberaubend schön. Abends haben wir bei einem Feuer im Kamin draussen auf der Terrasse gesessen und die Zebras, Antilopen und Sträusse beobachtet, die nicht weit von dem Cottage vorbei gezogen sind. Das Cottage ist mit allem ausgestattet was man braucht. Schöne, moderne Badezimmer und sehr gute Betten machen den Aufenthalt zu einem unvergesslichem Erlebnis. Wir haben gleich für die Folgewoche wieder 3 Nächte gebucht.

Arrive sur place portal , fermé avons Sonné a maintes reprises sans que personne réponde et après avons télöphonné et là enfin on nous a répondu et overt mais personne pour nous accuiellir , pour nous expliquer comment faire, pour les clés, Avon’s retéléphonné et enfin une personne est venue nous donner les clés et nous dire ou notre maison /logis se trouvait. Cet endroit est situé a au joins 4 km d’une route potale et sans parler quail fault au joins 30 Min pour trouver un resto ou autre, Je demande ä Booking de mieux présenter ce genre de produits sur leur site et donner plus de détails ce sera it la minder des choses. je deconseille cet endroit clairement.

We hebben het erg fijn gehad. Gastvrij ontvangen zonder veel gedoe. Een heerlijk chalet met een prachtig uitzicht en 100% privacy. We hebben écht genoten van de geweldige hottub. Extra hout voor de hottub werd razendsnel geregeld. Het ontbijt was gewoonweg geweldig. Super bedankt!

The location was astonishing, being amongst the wildlife and scenic backdrop. The hot tub was lovely and the views splendid. We spent hours stargazing in the hot tub and the hiking trails on the property were fantastic too.

The fridge was quite noisy and woke us at night else was a very pleasant stay.

More detailed layout of the site and better road signage a recommendation

Dit was onze tweede keer op deze locatie omdat het zo’n leuke plek is. De dieren op het terrein maken het extra speciaal. De huisjes waren zeer net en mooi! Bij vragen reageert de eigenaresse snel.

This booking was for Tortoise cottage, a lovely 2 sleeper cottage with a mountain water plunge pool with kolkol heating. The cottage was well equipped with everything you could need and is surrounded by trees and frequented by animals each morning. It has a comfortable large bed and neat bathroom. Also fitted out with a fireplace which I'm sure would be useful in the cold winter days.

Everything was perfect.

Welbedacht Nature Reserve is absolutely stunning and peaceful. We booked 5 cottages for our family, each private and spaced about 100-200m apart, all were clean and well equipped with everything you need for a self catered stay. Tulbagh town is a short drive away if you need any groceries. The area also has numerous stunning wine farms from 10min drive away.The plunge pools on the front decks are amazing, sitting in the morning having a cup of coffee while watching the animals was fantastic. We had beautiful peacocks, ostriches and zebra walking around our cottages daily...very cool to experience with some springboks in the distance too. The property is perfect for walks or hikes and a swim at the Zwemdam. Don't forget to look up at the sky at night...stars on full display! One cottage had a boomslang visitor...part of nature 😅 Photos on the site should be updated, the upgrades done are fantastic 😀 Check in and check out was painless and well coordinated. Our family enjoyed every minute and hope to be back soon!

One of our cottages seemed to have been missed for restocking before we checked in, it didn't have salt, pepper, a lighter for the gas stove, coffee tea, beach towels, etc like the other cottages had. One cottage had no water on arrival...however this was very quickly sorted by the staff so excellent service!

Very private, makes you feel like you are alone in the entire area.

The road, it was too bumpy and made our tyre flat.

The mountains are so quiet and peaceful. Lovely cool inside the cottage. Good place to reflect and switch off. The accomodation had everything we needed. The aircon in the rooms was a bonus. Definitely a great place to visit.

I liked everything! Experiencing the Cold Supermoon in such a magical setting was very special. The views from this cottage are breathtaking. I really enjoyed the privacy.

The views, location and surroundings were stunning. The cottage was clean and well equipped. Very quiet and tranquil.

The only downside was that we hadn’t realised how ‘hands off’ the service would be. I understand that it’s nice to allow people privacy, but while the new gate system is bedding in it would’ve been helpful to have more contact, as the uncertainty around getting the gate open, made you less inclined to leave the reserve.

This place is amazing! The cottage felt in the middle of no where and very private, the space had everything we needed and the bed was also very comfortable and a fan for hot evenings

There was nothing I didn’t like

After a hectic stay in Stellenbosch, Welbedacht was so peaceful and relaxing. Tulbagh is close by with various farms to visit - wine, olives, fruit. There are restaurants not too far away and access in and out of the nature reserve was easy. The heated splash pool was awesome and relaxing on the deck with views for miles and not another person in sight, priceless!! Short easy trails on the reserve are well marked for the more energetic.

Fabulous location in a mini reserve with zebras, buck, ostriches with loads of chicks. Fabulous safe small swimming dam tucked away behind the trees. Quiet and secluded. Accommodation rustic, clean, good bbq. Bed in our hut was quite small. Need to take everything for self catering, even salt & pepper. I think they do breakfast but it wasn’t easy to book it and we ate in a good cafe in Tulbagh.

We were given no instructions on how to find or enter the property. You have to submit your number plate and then another code for the second gate. It helps to have a working phone to call them. We didn’t - only what’s app. Make sure before you arrive you have their number, and the check in details.

Wat een geweldige plaats om voledig tot rust te komen. Vogels kwamen drinken uit de mountainpool terwijl we ernaast zaten. Het verblijf was schoon, heeft een geweldige bed en is goed toegerust met alles wat nodig is in de keuken.

Een airconditioning zou voor ons de verblijf nog meer aangenaam maakte.

This was the weekend getaway that we needed! It was an absolute treat and our souls feel so at peace. We spent so much time in the hot tube just soaking up the nature and beautiful views. From start to finish this weekend was spectacular and we will most definitely be coming back soon. The wildlife was an absolute treat to see and the host, George, just amazing! I

The scenery was breathtaking, surrounded by mountains and wildlife like springboks, zebras, and peacocks. The cottage was spotless, beautifully furnished, and had lovely touches like fresh milk, coffee, and chocolates on the bed. The hosts were kind and made sure we were comfortable throughout our stay.

There was a mix-up with our booking on arrival and some difficulty getting the main gate to open. However, the hosts were very kind and handled everything quickly and professionally. The signal is stronger near the Tortoise Cottage but very limited at Gum Tree. It didn’t bother us though, as we went there to disconnect and enjoy nature.

Stunning views, great privacy, in door fireplace was a bonus!

Loved the tranquility, privacy and beauty of reserve, and being able to be so close to wildlife, just 90 mins away from Cape Town. We’d recommend the Ixia trail which is stunning at present with spring vegetation. Recommend taking water and some snacks. We stayed in Tortoise this time around. George was very responsive and ensured we had a great stay.

Fabulous place. Very private, adorable little cottage nestled under huge mountains. Everyone we dealt with was welcoming and respectful. The estate is amazing and definitely a place we’d go to again.

Only improvement would be to upgrade the fridge in Stone cottage. Current fridge kicks in quite loudly periodically and wakes one up. I’m sure owners aren’t aware this happens.

Accommodation small and basic. Our experience would have been better if there was: A cupboard, drawers or shelves to hang and store clothes. A quieter fridge. It’s motor kept us awake at night

We had a wonderful stay at Gum Tree Cottage, Welbedacht. The zebras roaming around our cottage was awesome. The newborn ostrich chicks was the highlight for me! the hot tub was lovely and just want we needed for our relaxing weekend. George is a lovely host and we cant wait to go back for another weekend!
