Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Stayed before so it was the obvious choice when I was in the area. I enjoyed everything about my stay, a nice sleep on a comfy bed, the food was perfect and the staff were all happy and a pleasure to see. Special mention to Orla who was running the place on her own when I arrived because it was families day at the local RAF base and they had all gone to work there while I was visiting.
Everything was spot on
Ett bra övernattningssälle för Themsen- vandrare. En kort promenad till byn från floden. Konsumbutik i byn. Mysigt rum, god frukost.
Lovely decor in a characterful building. The pub had good food and beers and the staff were lovely. The room was amazing, clean, with great decor and quirky touches, including a full size bath in the bedroom plus a generous shower in the bathroom. Excellent value for money.
Nothing.
Arriving after 9pm with a confirmed booking to be told, sorry our system is playing up, we dont have a room for you was not a welcomed experience. No other assistance offered or given. Beware.
Very clean & comfortable & our evening meal in the Restaurant was extremely tasty well presented & home cooked. Perfect
I believe there should have been a rubber mat in shower if needed as became quite slippery to get out of shower cubicle.
Very close for work location
Window blinds broken unable to to open, mould in the bathroom, no air circulation. Room overlooked beer garden.
breakfast was great as I only have toast. Landlord was helpful and polite with his little mate buddy. Staff on our arrival were exceptional.
It was clean with friendly and everything you could want in a room.
The stairs.
Pleasant pub with a nice room and good food with breakfast included
All good
Location. Absolutely lovely morning staff, who went over and above with their attention. Good continental breakfast.
Road/traffic noise, but it was hot so we had to have the windows open. There may be less noise with windows closed.
Lovely, friendly staff, comfortable bed, good shower, very good pub food. Convenient parking. Good location, a short walk from the Benson Marina. and close to Wallingford. Good value.
No hangers or place to hang clothes, some traffic noise. Buffet breakfast could have been better - 3 eggs for 4 people, no natural yoghurt or fresh fruit. But good coffee.
Nicely decorated room; good shower; friendly staff; it was hot and the manager gave us his fan.
The pastries looked a bit old.
Good location for lots of attractions and walks. Comfy bed, lovely modern room. Unexpectedly included breakfast. Room managed to be cool in the hot weather!
Nothing really!
Everything Especially liked the live music 🎶 🎵
Got fish n chips Fish was frozen?
Lovely rooms excellent staff especially at breakfast Lovely atmosphere Good food and service
quirky bedroom made a positive distinction from your average hotel bedroom and good staff
bedroom was great. but the mattress had definitely seen better days, it was obvious that many people, had moved the mattress springs. Point of detail providing. coffee and tea facilities in the room.is always good, but tiny little cups are a touch frustrating. breakfast was distinctly disappointing, continental only and the provisions were full of sugar. and no fresh fruit. dinner was adequate pub food.
Friendly staff comfortable bed. Would stay again
Nothing
Was central to where we needed to be and the shop was down the road
The cleanliness was disgraceful Manager was rude We was very poorly informed No hairdryer even tho states there was one Noisy Dirty Avoid room 3
Great location. Staff were very helpful, going above and beyond. Most of the food was tasty, especially breakfast. Beautiful building. Lovely garden. Comofrtable bed.
My husband's fish and chips were poor, although when he complained he was given a free drink and dessert. The bedroom was in need of some maintenance. There was a cracked glass covering on one of the sides (dangerous), chipped sink, broken handle on the shower. Parts of the room could ahve been cleaner. Not sure where the hairdryer was. It was mentioned in the guest book.
The bath in the room
It was not clear if breakfast was included in the booking. I think the staff should have mentioned this when we checked in and what the times for breakfast were
Clean, comfortable
Nothing
They did not return two phone messages or two mails regarding dinner booking for six people. We had to find another venue in another town! The bedroom was cramped, airless with window opening a couple of inches using a towel to hold it. It was blocked off by secondary glazing. Blind not functioning and fan was useless. No aircon, or single sheet only a heavy duvet when temperatures hit 30 degrees. I couldn’t breathe so slept in our car with the dog!
The room was very nice, comfortable and with cool furnitures. The restaurant offer great food and the staff is super friendly.
Great location to access Henley and the Regatta. The staff members both mornings at breakfast were friendly, helpful and chatty. Breakfast was simple but good. Despite the room being above the bar, and looking out over the terrace seating it was surprisingly not noisy.
On arrival, I was pretty much blanked by one staff member behind the bar, I had to almost step in front of her to stop her walking past me for the 3rd time having waited for her to finish serving one person. The bar was not busy, just two other customers and 2 staff. When she eventually did address me, it was with a blank expression, no greeting followed by confusion at my comment that I wished to check in, on seeking guidance from the other bar person she walked off. The second person and youngish man in his 20s stepped forward; again no greeting looked at the check in screen and announced that's £196.00 whilst thrusting the card machine in front of me. He did ask begrudgingly if I needed to be shown to my room. He was kind enough to allow me to use the bar freezer to chill down some icepacks I required for the next day, it was just such a shame at the lack of initial welcome. Guests are most likely to have travelled some distance if they are staying, I would suggest a minimum welcome would be Hello, and maybe "how was your journey not "this is what you owe us!" Beverage products (coffee sachets)were not replaced by room service when they made up the room leaving me with no coffee for the next morning. Room kettle and shower heads need descaling as both were pretty furred up.
Loved the food and service and it's position close enough to Henley for the HRR.
The hot water system at least for our room was intermittent. The room is great for one night. The breakfast was cold no hot or warm dishes.
Clean, convenient, pleasant and willing staff
The Inn was a lovely pub in a beautiful village. The staff and owner were all friendly and the rooms were well decorated. The bed was nice and firm for a great night's sleep.
Coffee making facilities were probably a bit specialised for me- all I needed was a coffee satchet, boiling water and a couple of biscuits but you had a choice of ground coffee and a cafetiere or coffee in a bag.
Staff very helpful .Great value for money
Staff and location excellent 👌 x
Such helpful, friendly staff Beautiful, comfortable rooms Good value
Nothing I didn't like The breakfast included is simple and basic but there was a cooked option and it was fine.
Great welcome from owner, John, and his team. Great room.
Nothing.
The staff and whole environment is lovely.
Unfortunately I found the bed uncomfortable. Room 4.
Excellent all around. Very peaceful, beautiful old inn on the high street in Benson. Comfortable and very good value. All good, would definitely come back.
All good.
Sehr freundliches Personal. Atmosphäre im Pub wie man es,sich wünscht. Sonntags sogar mir Livemusik
Leider hatte die Küche bereits um 2000 geschlossen
The staff went out of their way to accommodate us and our canoe
The cleaning could be better. You could write to your name in the dust on the mirror
Lovely location, nice building and grounds
Room was small, bed was lumpy, breakfast was poor, milk for cereal tasted off and the croissants were a bit stale! I won't be returning as it wasn't good value for money.
Nothing
Stayed at crown on a number of occasions, ideal for the odd nights stay when I am visiting family in the area
Nothing stands out , its priced fairly for a pub, with guest rooms comfortable good hot shower , well located for Wallingford
Food great
Nothing
The location was nice lovely little village
The room needed a good dust, lots of visible dust along picture rail and headboard
God og rolig beliggenhed. Sød og hjælpsomt personale. Dejligt værelse
Dårlig wi-fi
Ideal for our overnight stay while walking the Ridgeway. Clean, comfortable and pleasant. Good food and range of ales, excellent that the premises is dog friendly. Enjoyed our stay.

Fantastic place to stay
Nothing
It was in the right locale for what we needed. Free breakfast welcome. Staff all very pleasant. The provided fan was very welcome. Price was fair.
Needs some maintenance. Shower door handle broken. Sink very slow to drain. Shower very poor flow. Blind broken and unable to be raised to let in breeze on a very warm night. Dinner at the restaurant was ok. It was a first to have a deep fried chicken schnitzel. It was overdone and very dry though generous serving.
Location, facilities, personnel
Too loud music all evening
The venue, the atmosphere, friendly, helpful staff. My meal in the evening was amazing!
Didn't dislike anything. I down marked on one review due to a blocked sink.
Friendly staff. Lovely property and great room. Good food.
No hot breakfast but the spread they put out was a good replacement.
Staff very friendly and exceedingly helpful. Food was superb.
Nothing.
Great staff very helpful. Good pub atmosphere.
I was not charged the Booking fee so my card had been charged at full price. The staff balanced the difference with food. Disappointed that breakfast was from 8 as I had to leave at 7:30. No discount on no breakfast.
Great pub good food
Nothing
Good food, excellent atmosphere. Will consider staying again, next time we travel south.
Friendly staff, great location, real pub feeling
I've stayed in hundreds of hotels and this must be the cleanest ever.
Reasonably priced and a great location for walking the Thames Path. The breakfast was good and breakfast staff very friendly.
Bedroom was a little tired and there were no hangers for clothes and not much space to put things down. Some meals at dinner were nicer than others.
Popular country village pub. Pretty good food. Okay rooms.
Some minor maintenance issues.
The staff were excellent..good food and a beautiful dining room.
Nothing really
The staff
A lovely stay in a beautiful pub full of character. The location was excellent and the staff were very friendly. We had a roast in the pub on Sunday evening and it was exceptional! Would definitely stay again.
Full English breakfast weekend
Bath in bedroom Noisy by roadside
We like the whole experience of the pub and Inn.Very comfortable. The area is very friendly with peaceful surroundings...we enjoyed our stay very much. Staff was amazing and friendly.I will definitely be back.
There were no dislikes...but... a full lenght mirror would be nice for us ladies.
Location and price
Very small room but ok for the price. Due to the room size it didn’t need all the extra cushions on the bed. They may look cute but there was nowhere to put them as there hardly any room either side of the bed to stand up let alone store stuff. We didn’t eat at the pub but from what we saw the food was over priced.
Staff were lovely
Bit noisy from people talking outside
The property was well situated, clean, and beautifully decorated. The beds were comfortable, and bathroom modern and clean. The staff were all friendly and couldn't do enough to help you. The breakfast was included in the price and was lovely, the dining room could rival a top hotel. Excellent value for money and an amazing stay, will definitely be going back !
Nothing
Very convenient location for us. Super helpful staff
Breakfast was included, however, on Sunday we had a choice of continental and Full English, but on Monday it was only continental...I felt this was poor.
The bed was not that comfortable, but what was worst was that the Shower and the en-suit basen drained extremely slowly meaning that washing was not straight forward. the water temperature of both the shower and wash basin was tepid at best and the cold water was not cold so we had to ask for a bottle of tap water for our second night. I reported these points to the staff after our first night but nothing was done or even reported. when I reported it to the manager he simply dismissed the issue. The other point is that the en-suit was physically dirty and our room had not been attended to during our stay.
Nice decor, good bed, liked the water bottle to keep bed warm, good decor, spacious bedroom, spacious bathroom. Good breakfast
Breakfast was supposed to be available from 8, i believed, but we had to wait until 9 go get cooked breakfast.
Breakfast area good. Rooms great.
A few tricky steps.
Good cooked breakfast options, spacious room, friendly staff
Very poor sound-proofing (especially given the rooms are above the pub) and the sound system was apparently glitching so we had music playing until 3am. Not recommended for light sleepers…
The welcome from the staff was perfect. Everything is clean and they couldn't do enough for you . Anything you needed it was there . Top place.
I like the location and friendly staff
For the price the room was very small and the breakfast paltry. Also the carpet hadn’t been vacuumed, there was dried pilau rice everywhere.
A very comfortable room. Parking no problem Super food and drink.

Convenient
I have stayed here on quite a few occasions. The staff are all really friendly and welcoming, the rooms are spacious and clean and the food is so nice. The beer is always well kept and Old Hooky is my favourite.
Nothing
Great location for us. Young team but very accommodating and helpful. Great continental breakfast. The owner was very friendly and remembered us from previous visit. The evening food was great! Lovely clean linen & towels and complimentary shower gels etc.. Loads of hot water which was good. Rooms were great value for money.
Rooms a little dated and need some TLC. Lots of condensation on the window and blind not easy to work. Saucers for the cups would be good and a bin liner for the small bin. We stayed in room 3 and the door to the en-suite needs changing as a little restrictive getting in and out.
Stayed here a few times now, and it's perfect for me. The rooms are spotless, food was great and staff are always pleasant. Checking in was simple and quick.
