Staff were helpful and friendly, the food was very good. I would stay there again. The location is amazing.
Property could do with a little updating, but overall was clean and acceptable
Ideal location , good view of the river from our room , hot shower and lovely breakfast
The single room I'd booked turned out to be a spacious double, which was great! With a bath - even better when on a cricket tour! There's a (not very maintained) nice stretch of lawn by the river with one rickety table which was nevertheless nice to sit at. The staff were warm and friendly. It would be a convenient and friendly spot to stay when walking the Thames river path.
My room was on the ground floor with a door in a picture window looking out onto the car park. So no river view for me, just a lot of car bumpers. I know cars rule the roost these days and a hotel needs a car park, so there's probably no alternative - but a shame to sacrifice a lovely view for a sea of tarmac and metal. One car actually parked right across my door for one day (not in a car parking space) which was rather thoughtless. Otherwise, the location is lovely, by the elegant old bridge, though sadly it's a busy road and cars rather roar over the bridge! Decor a bit tired, but it's all clean and works well enough. Breakfast OK, not great - just about serviceable.
Beautiful setting, easy access to Oxford. Staff were so friendly. Truly dog friendly.
There wasn't anything to dislike! The building is obviously undergoing refurbishment but this did not affect our stay or enjoyment.
Breakfast and location
Size and layout also cleanliness of bathroom Awful bedroom lighting.
Beautiful location this could be an amazing hotel but the new owners have really let it slip and will not spend money on the place , it needs full modernisation our room was big and spacious but had a weird lingering smell and just looked haggard. There is a really nice outdoor Swimming Pool here but the owners won’t invest to bring it back to life . The food and breakfast in the restaurant was lovely and the young waitress was lovely as was the receptionist we had who was very helpful too . It’s really sad when owners only think about profit if you invested in this hotel it could be absolutely stunning .
As I said it needs fully modernising and updating it was also averagely clean could be alot better .
The staff were very friendly and accommodating And the room was clean
I feel like the hotel is looking very tired and dated and could do with a facelift
Lovely setting by the river. Lovely staff. Good breakfast
Lovely location on the river Thames. Close to Wallingford, where we were visiting for 3 days, for the bunkfest event. Breakfast was excellent. Staff all very friendly anx helpful. The room had iron, hair dryer ironing board, tv.
The hotel is going through modernisation and property repairs. Some areas of the room we had were good, the bathroom looked recently updated, the actual door to the bathroom was still in the pre painting stage and looked very grubby. The mattress was old and you could feel the springs under the fabric, it was definitely needing replacement. We had 2 wall lights, both different shades, 1 didn't have a bulb.
The location is good, next to the river and within easy reach of local destinations. Bar and dining areas offer evening relaxation - noteworthy considering there's nothing else within easy walking distance in that respect. Good footpaths though, and mooring for boats.
My room, at the back of the property, suffered a little from the vibration of kitchen cooling apparatus.
It was quaint, with lovely view.. breakfast good.
The shower was very very powerful.. screen needs to be longer to prevent getting floor wet
Breakfast good and restaurant staff pleasant and helpful.
The room was lovely with a great view of the river. Wonderful shower! Dinner was great, really good food and the staff were very friendly.
After such a good dinner, the breakfast was a little disappointing with a limited selection. Though this may have been because they were renovating their dining room and meals were being served in the bar.
Position
In need of refurbishment looking very tired
This Hotel was great, the room was very comfortable 👌
The only slightly negative comment would be about the bathroom, it could benefit from a fan.
Great breakfast, comfortable room and good shower with lovely view of river Thames from room and at breakfast
Very run down and in need of a lot of TLC
The room was lovely, comfortable bed, great shower. Evening meal and breakfast were great
Communal parts need an update, the dining room wasn't open and so we ate in the bar area.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were tasty. Location is right by the river and easy to reach by taxi from Wallingford.
Just the tired decor. Room was a little tired as was some of the decor inside and out.
Large room with very comfortable bed. Very quiet. Lovely friendly staff. Perfect location as there for a wedding in nearby village only a mile away. Plenty of parking within the hotel grounds. Food was excellent and good value for money. Would definitely stay again.
Only negative was that our daily housekeeping was bed made and towels changed on request only. Bins emptied also but no cleaning done. Bathroom wasn’t touched. Clean on arrival and stayed for 3 nights.
Beautiful location great breakfast
Spring mattress awful sleep. Dust on lampshade dirty fan cover mould around dgower
Location was great, superb views of river
Nothing
The room
The outside of the property is shabby, staff unwelcoming one lady nearly got my husband ran over. Outside doors propped open with rolled up carpet we turned up for breakfast a few minutes after 9 and the staff member who was chatting to a couple at a table rudely and loudly informed us we were late in front of other guests
very friendly staff, great cooked breakfast, large free carpark.
Slightly dated communal spaces
I had a room with an amazing view of the river.
Not he hotels fault but I could hear snoring from room next door. There was also an intermittent high pitched ring tone sound coming from front area, I couldn’t pinpoint location to ask for it to stop.
Overlooking the river. Bedrooms very comfortable
From outside it looks dated. And the dining room is dated but that did not affect our stay
Room was good as was dinner and breakfast. Location excellent
A feeling of tiredness in all communal areas
Excellent hotel with lovely staff in a wonderful location
Nothing
The location is perfect, right on the Thames. The staff are fantastic, friendly and efficient. We had breakfast included and it was lovely. It was a comfortable relaxing experience.
Staff were helpful and breakfast was good.
This is not a hotel for a heatwave. No air conditioning and the little fans in each room made very little difference. Would be ok in normal weather.
Location was beautiful
Room and hotel has seen better days, it could do with some rlc
Location parking comfortable room nice breakfast
Service was slow short staff
Leaving a day early
The room we were in wasn't fit for a dog. Shocking we wouldn't have stayed the night had it not been the solar eclipse and everywhere was booked. Photos attached. There were cobwebs in the bathroom, plastic shower curtain, stains on the carpet, paintwork, light, dust all over the fan, filthy. It advertised a coffee making machine, this was a kettle on one side of the bed and tea and coffee on the other side of the bed.The breakfast and staff. Tea and coffee served in a flask, warm milk for cereal which was stood on table. We had to go over to staff and order hot breakfast. It came on a scalding hot plate, eggs were hard boiled, sausage disgusting. It obviously was plated up and left because the food was just warm from the plate. The hotel wants a full overhaul. When I complained to the reception, they gave each other a look as if to say yeah it is a hole. She said I can try and look for another room but I needed to wait a while. I said we were just going to leave and asked for a refund she said the manager needed to over ride this and would call me in the day. I called the hotel back and they never answered so I used my partners phone and answered in two rings. She said has the manager not rang and then proceeded to give us a refund. They took payment of one nights stay of £141.75. . Not worth it at all.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Views amazing
NA
Great riverside hotel.
Went for afternoon tea at The Shillingford. Lovely service and afternoon tea selection - we did have a Groupon voucher which made it insanely good value. Staff were friendly and really helpful - and took a back seat for much of the afternoon aide from checking in on tea/coffee supplies. Fabulous view from the dining room. Suggestions for improvements - background music was a bit 'pop' for a nice afternoon tea. And some of the hotel looks like it needs a bit of TLC. Random thought - could you offer boat trips from the hotel? Would go back.
Location by river
Bed was small. Crumbs on carpet in room.
In a lovely position, good lunchtime menu. Great view from a sunny terrace overlooking the Thames. Lovely crisp white linen on the beds & good quality towels. The breakfast was quite good too!
It is quite shabby. Lots of areas in need of a refurbishment. Such a shame as it has tremendous potential.
Breakfast was great and we had a meal which was amazing
Appearance of building when we arrived - looked run down
I arrived in the late evening and wanted a good nights sleep before a long drive the next morning. I couldn't have wished for a better waypoint on my travels. The staff I met were warm, friendly and efficient. I would recommend this hotel.

Locatie erg mooi
Het beste is er wel een beetje vanaf
Beautiful setting on the river with outside space to sit and relax.
It’s very dated, everywhere is in need of a good revamp. Real shame that the outdoor pool is now closed.
Riverside location, wide choice of good food, excellent, friendly and helpful staff.
The building is a little tired and showing it's age. Black painted walls on the corridor to my room was a little weird. My room (#7), was overlooked by cars waiting at the traffic light outside.
Very pleasant stay as usual. Lovely location and friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfast.
Beautiful location on the riverside, friendly staff, nice room.
It was a very hot day and being such an old building there’s obviously no aircon. Not much you can do about the weather though!
Location
Breakfast terrible under cooked and cold
Great location right next to the river Stayed with our dog who was even given a sausage at breakfast from a staff member. Food excellent for the money we payed I can not complain
The hotel needs some decorating in places and generally tidying up
Room was good. Large bed, view of the Thames. Bteakfast was comprehensive.
Long wait for evening meal menu to arriive. Restaurant was not busy but reception was very busy. Staff cant cover both areas at once
Great location with the lawn running down to the river. Good non-greasy english breakfast. Room and ensuite in very good condition.
Corridor areas starting to look tired. Some road noise.
The river & boats in front although we didn't have that view from the bedroom. Friendly staff, very helpful. Lovely breakfast and evening meal, you can't fault the choice. A good stopping off point for onward travel to the south coast.
Bedrooms could do with a refresh, looking a bit tired. The view from the bedroom window looking out on to a flat roof was a bit disappointing.
Location and staff beyond excellent! So warm and friendly and a beautiful location. Bar area was clean and tidy.
Our room was clean but furnishings had worn out and room was in urgent need of overhaul. No coffee in room although about 100 tea bags and an equal amount of milk sachets? Some parts of the hotel are in need of urgent investment. Breakfast was served cold, not what I expected from a cooked full english. Lack of attention to detail, like no sauces etc on tables meant you had to go looking. The staff were all lovely but really overworked and struggled to keep up.
Staff were friendly cheerful and very helpful...ast my request they changed the designated room because it was not suitable for dogs but still managed to give me a room over looking the river. Thank you very much

Convenient mooring for small boat. Good breakfast.
Failed bulb in bedroom. No hooks in bathroom and light position so reflection in mirror is in shadow.
Well, first off the receptionist was lovely and helpful, along with the other staff. Joan was lovely, 100% to her, she made us feel welcomed. We were there for afternoon tea. Which was absolutely amazing, thank you 😊. She showed us to our table, and brought out the tea to us as we were a little early. The location is beautiful, right next to the river Thames. Watching boats sail by on the water. All in all, a lovely experience and thank you all for everything 🙏
Location was beautiful, a truly amazing position with wonderful views. Rooms very clean, a little dated in design but everything was in excellent condition. Great to have a good restaurant with a good choice of meals. Staff very friendly.
As you would expect, not all rooms are front, river facing, would have been good to wake up to a river view, but it was good to have breakfast overlooking this spectacular scenery.
Attended a wedding and stayed in the hotel. Exceptional food at the wedding, beautiful venue, fun atmosphere right on the bank of the Thames. Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, especially Bettina (wedding organiser, not sure if spelt correctly). She worked a very long shift and even when half the guests wanted the football on, staff obliged. The wedding couldn’t have gone better and the stay was very comfortable. No air con in the rooms but fans were provided, rooms are clean and nicely decorated and the breakfast is good.
Good recently refurbished bathroom and comfy bed. Very quiet location
No air conditioning, average breakfast quality
Great location and good food
Hotel was tired. Room was in poor state decoration way. In the hotel windows had rotten window frames and was dirty in places. 2 days before our stay we received an email to say on the Saturday night no food would be available because they had a wedding booking. We decided to go home instead!
Good breakfast, should have received sauté potatoes but was given thin chips.shower brilliant Room dark so room temperature bearable in this heat!
Floor boards not level. Floor on an incline. Paint needs touching up. No cupboard beside bed, needed due to plug
Location
Air conditioning would be good
Lage gut, Frühstück sehr gut, Zimmer ok
Insgesamt macht das Hotel einen etwas "älteren" Eindruck, Bar könnte länger geöffnet sein,
The setting and the room was quiet and breakfast was good
Our tv wasn’t working well and we hoped to watch a World Cup game.We mentioned it and eventually were told someone had looked at it and nothing could be done.Frustrating and we kept expecting someone to come to look at it.
The location and view
The room and hotel was so grim wallpaper hanging off wall dirty stains on carpet just so bad
Lovely view of the river.
The room smelt damp, the bedding smelt damp, spiders everywhere and the restaurant wasn’t serving in the evening. Breakfast included didn’t offer a vegetarian alternative on the menu but when our orders were taken I mentioned there was nothing I could eat, she said she’d check with the cook to see if they had any veggie sausages which they did. The property is in desperate need of a significant amount of work. Tired and worn.
Great location
A bit tired in certain areas
Area its in peaceful
All good
Location.
A bit tired and dated.
Wanting to explore somewhere we’d never visited before, we decided to make Shillingford our next stop. Cruising along the river, we spotted the Shillingford Bridge Hotel and, if we’re honest, weren’t entirely sure what we’d found. Was it a hotel, an activity centre, a camp site, business conference venue… or perhaps all four? The mooring signs (which could do with a bit of a scrub and clean) suggested visitors were welcome, but the first impression was a little confusing. There were several boats that appeared long forgotten beneath well-weathered tarpaulins, along with a couple of floating lodges or containers sporting “For Sale” signs. We actually cruised straight past before deciding to turn around and take a chance. As we tied up, we got chatting to a lovely couple from the Netherlands who were sitting on a bench overlooking the river. They couldn’t speak highly enough of the hotel and their stay, which certainly encouraged us. We found a table outside by the main entrance and popped inside to ask about coffee and a light snack. From the moment we walked in, the welcome was exceptional. The lady on reception greeted us with genuine warmth and enthusiasm, making us feel as though we’d been expected all morning. It’s amazing how much difference one person can make. There weren’t any pastries or light snacks available, and the choice of decaffeinated drinks was a little limited, which was a slight disappointment, but the outstanding service more than compensated. The building itself is an interesting mix of styles. The older section to the left of reception looks to be full of character and charm from the outside, while the extension to the right looks as though it arrived courtesy of the 1970s and never quite left. It’s not the prettiest addition, and once inside the décor continues that time-capsule theme. It feels rather dated throughout and could certainly benefit from a refresh, although everything appeared clean and well cared for. If we were judging purely on first impressions of the exterior and interior décor, we’d probably have awarded one star. Based solely on the drinks, perhaps three. But hospitality is about people, and the welcome we received was worth every one of the five stars we’ve given. The lady on reception is an absolute credit to the hotel and left us with a smile that lasted long after we’d cast off. Judging by the glowing comments from the Dutch couple we met, it’s clear that genuine hospitality is something this hotel does exceptionally well.
Such a welcoming hotel. When I was in contact on the phone, I was helped super easily. When in contact with an email query all sorted easily. The staff were super friendly at all times. I enjoyed chatting with you. With appreciation of staying with you in such hot weather and aware of the demands of being busy. My room was a beautiful surprise. I arrived late evening and found the beautiful roll top bath, crisp linen and four poster bed, spacious Remarkarkable Xxx Thank you I recommend eating at lunchtime. A delicious menu.
In no way anything you could change. The road is noisy if it's a room at the front.
The staff were fantastic as was the food
The hotel was worn out , shabby and dirty from carpets , to walls grubbyflakingpaintwork , worn out furniture and cobwebs in doorways
Close to venue we were attending. Had everything we needed for a one night stay. Lovely location next to the river. Quiet which was a bonus. Staff very friendly and helpful. Despite being run off her feet, our breakfast waitress was cheerful and very efficient. Great value for money!
Some aspects, particularly decor in the room were a bit dull although bathroom had great shower and looked like it had been refurbished recently. No air con but… we had a fan and despite a very hot day and night we kept cool.
Location of the hotel on the Thames was great. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Great breakfast included in price. Good choice of drinks in bar.
Room was very dated and in need of a good update - what was with the dark grey walls and rope lights? Bed linen and towels were fine but the room really needed a good clean. Furniture was very outdated.
My room, and customer service
The hotel in general is VERY shabby, but room was good
It was Clean and tidy and had friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.
Nothing
It’s right on the river and super convenient for a Thames walk
It’s a little tired and in need of an upgrade and the rooms look over the carpark which sits between the hotel and the river. But it’s a wonderful location and has a nice grassy area with picnic tables on the river front.
Quiet river front and private
Would have like a front facing river view room than a side view
Die Mitarbeiter waren extrem nett und zuvorkommend. Familiäres feeling
habitación
Polite staff & view overlooking the river.
Nothing comes to mind
Fantastic location and very peaceful setting overlooking The Thames, the rooms were clean and spacious. A big thank you to Belinda and the young lads for their service in the restaurant last night, the food was wonderful
Room clean and nice shower room. Good outlook from breakfast over the river.
Location stunning
The room was tired, with threadbare carpet and furniture, peeling paint and old fashioned. The window didn’t close.
The gentleman on the reception desk when out of his way a few times to help us out. The 2 staff members we spoke to were very friendly and helpful.
The poor lady at the bar taking customers orders for food and drinks was also needed at an another part of the hotel so she had to keep running back and forward to the bar which meant there was quite a long wait for customers to get served!
We booked for a group of 24 people, 6 months in advance. We all had a lovely time at the hotel. The setting is great, the food was very good and the accommodation was fine. The staff were so friendly and helpful and I would thoroughly recomment this hotel.
Beautiful location. Lovely tasty food. Very welcoming staff (credit to the hotel). Hotel is very tired inside, needs updating. Our bedroom was awful, paint splattered radiator, holes in the plaster, dirty curtains, even dirtier duvet and pillows (no protectors on pillows). Photos have been supplied
The situation is truly memorable, right on the banks of the Thames by Shillingford Bridge, all of which formed a fantastic view from our window. The staff were outstanding and couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and there was a wide range of choices on the menu. Afternoon tea was really scrumptious! The room was big, as was the king size bed.
Decor is getting tired, especially externally. Electrics to the lights in our room were a bit erratic, but the action to get them looked at by an electrician was prompt. Also, common with many hotel bathrooms, lack of a shelf to put your toiletry bags etc. on is annoying. As the bathroom here is big, there's no excuse for not fitting one.
Location,staff,food ok.
Very rundown and dirty.
Zoals Windsor, The Chilterns en zelfs The Cotswolds.
De prijs/ kwaliteit verhouding is goed. Maar de authenticiteit/oudheid van het hotel laat zijn sporen na.
Staff were very helpful arranging ground floor accommodation for my stair challenged brother. Nice view over the canal. Good space in the room and nicely refurbished bathroom. Plenty of parking space
Fantastic hotel stay for two days. We had river view room which was perfect. Large comfortable bed and bathroom with bath and shower over. Nice and quiet too. Meals were delicious, very tasty large breakfast so did not need to eat lunch. Evening meal was equally tasty,we only had a main course. Lots of pretty villages all around and Wallingford only 4 miles.
Very clean and cosy, staff very friendly
Super location , great views across the river, light and airy, well appointed
N/a
Lovely clean and comfortable room with river views. Excellent evening mea incudedl. Friendly, helpful staff. Another enjoyable stay and great value.
Staff on arrival were very welcoming and accomadating. Made to feel very welcome the moment you came through the door.
Peaceful surroundings
Perfect location. Comfortable room. Friendly staff.
The poor waitress was having to multitask at the evening meal: serving at the bar as well as in the dining room which meant there were gaps in the service.
If you’re looking for a stay that serves luxury and flavour, this is your sign to book immediately. The food? Unreal. Not your average hotel dining—this was full-on “cancel your plans and eat here again” energy. Every plate came out looking like a moment, and tasting even better. Honestly, I’m still thinking about it. Now let’s talk about the real VIP treatment—the staff. Impeccable doesn’t even cover it. From start to finish, the service was smooth, attentive, and just the right level of extra (the good kind). But one name you need to remember: Crissy. Crissy didn’t just do her job—she owned it. Effortlessly fabulous, on point with everything, and somehow always one step ahead. The kind of service that makes you feel like you’ve got main character energy the entire stay. Nothing was too much, everything was done with a smile, and she brought that perfect mix of professionalism and personality. Between the food that deserves its own fan club and service that’s basically five-star royalty, this place just gets it. Will I be back? Obviously. And will I be hoping Crissy’s there? 100%.
Great views, great room
Lovely setting. Comfortable room. Nice dinner altho a long wait for it (with no compensation). Nice staff
Long wait for dinner with no real explanation and no compensation. But the dinner was very nice once or came. Breakfast was disappointing
