Beds are comfortable and there is a good view
Staff was horrible, we were the only guests at the time and they didnt let us check in early (even though its mentioned its free early check-in or late check out) breakfast was disaster (no buffet) and same every day! Restaurant staff tried their best but I think hotel management is so layed back. Hotel is old and that is visible from furniture to the staff uniforms
The staff was really nice. The rooms had a beautiful view of the pool and beach.
restaurant and especially their staff were EXCELLENT
poor TV reception
Beachfront and lovely beach. Friendly staff. Towels provided for beach and pool. Good variety for breakfast. Spacious rooms.
Bit far from amenities. Restaurant manager a bit over bearing.
Location, breakfast variety, pool amenities, Sunbeds availability at the beach, room dimensions, And the staff hospitality is perfect
There is a persistent car noise emanating from the always-open main hotel entrance, even though it could be closed. We encountered tiny ants in our room, making it impossible to leave food outside the refrigerator. The bathroom door's tendency to close itself resulted in excessive heat inside; we had to wedge a bin in the door to allow the air conditioning to cool it. The balcony windows shook throughout the night due to the sea waves, which would likely disturb light sleepers.
Great staff. Great location. Boutique hotel with every comfort.
The pool and room itself where great and clean
Wifi kept dropping out. You can o my use one set of towels at the pool each day without extra charge
The photos make it look really nice but it isn’t really nice unfortunately. Staff are helpful and friendly.
Very tired, a bit smelly / dirty, food is really bad
beach front hotel- absolutely stunning. Staff were really nice- hats off to Tyrone who made me feel very welcome. Gorgeous hotel, great location and good food!
Lovely hotel, big pool and right on the beach - our room was perfect, very clean and with a big balcony that had a lovely sea view. Staff were all so friendly and attentive. We had a full body massage at the hotel spa which was amazing. Food at the restaurant was also very good - highly recommend this hotel!
We loved it all - just a note for others that you may have to walk along the beach a few minutes if you want to swim, as the sea outside the property was too strong to swim in, but we liked this as it meant the section of beach that the hotel was on was quiet and peaceful.
Hotelstaff was very friendly and it was clean.
Not as the pictures. Quite run down, a lot of stuff needs be upgraded (chairs, windows,…)Breakfast was not that good. Hotel was not bad at all, but too expensive for what you get.
Hotel gave us a free upgrade. Location was lovely. Staff are friendly.
Wifi is not reliable. I used my data in the end.
Stunning room, with wrap around views of the sea, palm trees and such a comfortable bed. I could have stayed in my room or on the balcony for most of the day! We also had a wonderful house keeping team, who couldn’t do enough - there was daily yoga, aqua aerobics and Pilates - breakfast and dining area was a let down - not nearly as stylish as the rooms
We really enjoyed our stay at the Lucky Elephant. Staff were always helpful, breakfast was acceptable and the pool was super relaxing and clean. A special thank you to the house keeping staff. They did a clean and tidy up like no other. Excellent work!
Coffees were average
We had a fantastic stay at The Lucky Elephant Hotel! The room was spotless, and the entire hotel was well-maintained, making it feel fresh and comfortable. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant manager was especially kind—always giving extra attention to guests and ensuring our stay was perfect. The hotel is a quiet boutique retreat, ideal for relaxation. While the sea isn’t swimmable due to waves, the clean, uncrowded beach is perfect for walks and stunning sunsets. Plus, it’s just a short drive from the lively part of Hikkaduwa. Highly recommend for a peaceful getaway!
Breakfast could have more options, you won’t be hungry, however more variety would be perfect
Nice decor. The ocean facing rooms have great view
Very few ocean facing rooms. The ones that are partial view, are really partial. It would be great if they installed fans in the restaurant as it gets very hot. They should plant more greenery on the beach front to provide better shade - see how the Riff next door did it, and this would entice more people to use the restaurant.
Lovely pool and beach area. Staff were amazing - Friendly and welcoming. Room was great. Excellent shower Balcony big enough to sit on with a table.
No bar area other than the restaurant. Can have a drink on the beach tables but no good if it rains. Didn't feel comfortable sitting in the restaurant just for a drink. Quiet just out of the centre but need a tuk tuk to get to the life. Breakfast offering ok but everything too cramped. Need to lean over a big toaster to reach the cereal.
It’s a shame I mark this down because of the manager. All the other staff couldn’t do enough for you. The rooms are nice, great pool & fabulous bit on the beach!
The run in I had with the manager, by mistake I’d left money in the room & couldn’t find it when I returned as the room had been cleaned & tidied up. I spoke to the front of house manager then the general manager gave me a lecture about being more responsible & that I should be using the safe (which I was I just forgot the money I’d taken out), he assured me that his staff would not have taken the money, not once had I ever even referred to that I just couldn’t see the money as it wasn’t where I’d left it. He was very condescending towards me & obnoxious. I had one night left & really wanted to leave such a shame as I was even thinking of returning but won’t now due to that incident. Terrible way to speak to customers.
The location was great and the room (with wrap around balcony) was just as advertised. The restaurant staff were helpful and kind. The room service was good. The Hopper with egg in the morning was the only nice thing on the menu. We used the lovely hotel next door an eventually paid extra for our breakfasts and evening meals there.
The breakfasts were terrible, I dont know who wrote the comments online before. Fruit looked like it had been out for days, no cold drinking water just a warm jug. Coffee in jug not hot (we ordered and paid for one from the bar), juice was squash. Butter was margarine. The sliced meat was not chilled and didnt resemble anything id eat. Omelettes were runny and didnt taste of anything. Service on any order was so slow. The photos make out the bar in the restaurant was busy. No one ever used it at night, when we were there anyway. You cant swim from the location, currents in February where too dangerous.
Lovely staff, lovely room amazing hotel just shame about distance
Quite far from Main Street of hikkadwua, no shops nearby
Great location short walk into Main Street but also in a quiet area. The hotel was beautiful with a lovely pool and restaurant located on the beach. Friendly staff and clean room which was made fresh and tidied daily, highly recommend
Could not fault our stay
The room was lovely, spacious, clean, with a really great balcony. It does have the options of a fan or air-conditioning. The incredibly relaxing music from the hall wafted in to the bathroom which was very calming. The staff were exceptional and the food, delicious. The location is superb. Just a little bit out of the main he could do a town where you can enjoy wonderful stroll along the beach and even in this busy time of year it felt extremely quiet. Tuk tuk into town is easy and inexpensive.
The only thing I’d comment on was please put some good yoga mats in the gym, that they might be taken out to the beach first thing in the morning to do some sunrise yoga. The spa was basic, and I would’ve preferred to have been told that it was a male therapist.
Really nice staff and beautiful hotel
Everything was lovely from the moment I arrived. Every staff member was extremely friendly and helpful with anything needed. The flower arrangement on the bed was beautiful, breakfast was nice, the hotel smelled nice and had calming music during the day. And the beach was perfect - quieter than main Hikkaduwa Beach, which I preferred.
There aren't many places that look as good as the pictures but this is one of them!! The staff are some of the nicest and most helpful we've come across, the breakfast was great, views incredible, location perfect and the staff went to incredible lengths to ensure your stay was perfect. Quiet, not over crowded pool, lovely restaurant with some traditional Sri Lankan options as well as the standard eggs and bacon, fresh fruit. It was amazing, I'd recommend to everyone!
We had one dish in the restaurant which could have been better but the other meals were great and the chocolate brownie was lovely!
huge beds, large bathroom, primo hotel on the beach, tasty cuisine, very pleasant staff
The hotel felt really welcoming from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. They welcomed us with a lovely suprise in our room decorating it for our anniversary! The staff made a fuss of our little boy! The pool is beautiful, the beach attached is lovely and clean, with a great sunset, food is good too, breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Nothing not to like.
The place was clean. The staff are extremely nice and helpful. The kitchen staff, cooks and chef were super good.
Great food and excellent staff
I have never experienced such incredible hospitality and we felt like VIPs from the moment we arrived. The most special people who put their heart and souls into this beautiful hotel. We felt like family when we left. Thank you to all of you. Excellent location - the best in Hikkaduwa. Exquisite big pool.
Needs a bit more wardrobe space.
Very convenient location 👌
The last 2 days of our stay there was a urine odour coming from the washroom drain.
Fantastic location with excellent beach. Immaculately clean, comfortable room with terrace. Food is delicious. Spa treatment was incredible. Absolutely top hotel where the staff would do anything for you. Every single one of the person was helpful, friendly and kind. Thank you for this wonderful stay, we will definitely return.
N.a
Great location, direct access to beach. Big spacious clean room
Breakfast options limited, lack of 24hrs hot water supply
Everything!!! The location, the staff, the room, the comfy bed, the spa!!
Nothing
The location of this property is great and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. It stops there.
There are many things that need improving here. Firstly the breakfast is not even a two star. Limited choices, awful coffee and tea that taste like dish water, they have really put a tight budget on breads and juice- if you want to call it that. For a four star hotel, and I have stayed in many the breakfast really put us off the hotel. Every hotel we have been to in Sri Lanka had water filters and free water, you get a small bottle each day which again is poor. The pool needs some ambience, no music playing throughout the day, just the chatter of the staff and the tv. You have to sign a towel out each day and pay $50 if you do not sign it back in. The resturant for lunch and dinner is expensive, do not bother there are such better options around. Also no flexibility in breakfast times, once 10am hits there is no chance.
The staff were amazing, they were all so welcoming. I had the pleasure of spending my birthday at the hotel. My boyfriend and the staff planned a birthday surprise including a happy birthday message on the table using petals as well as a cake. I have inserted pictures. They made my birthday so special and I had a great two nights celebrating at The Lucky Elephant, would definitely recommend staying for special occasions. The pool was very nice and the view looking out onto the beach was amazing, helped with cocktails delivered to the sun bed from the bar. A special mention to Disura, Dulaj, Kushan, nethmi, Geethika for making the two nights and birthday dinner very special and memorable. Thank you!
Triple room was spacious. Had a lovely stay at the hotel. Right in front of the beach. The hotel is just a short tuk tuk ride from the centre. Liked that the beach here was not crowded like how it was in turtle beach which is nearby.
A bit more toiletries could have been provided.
Breakfast was excellent and location perfect right on the beach.
We had a brilliant stay. Sadly, it was just 1 night, but we will be back for a longer stay. From the get-go, friendly staff, welcoming and the food was amazing. Compliments the location. The restaurant manager was respectful and provided us with great meal options. The rooms were comfortable. Not forgetting that, I requested a late check out that was accommodated, which helped us with our departure from the hotel.
Visited in the low season with little guests at the hotel. Had lunch and dinner in the restaurant and the Sri Lankan dishes I tried were amongst the best I had during the stay on the island! The staff were also really nice! The beach is stunning, and the stretch north towards the city is really nice to walk. Highly recommended!
Very beautiful hotel. Room were nice and clean. We had a small issue with the room and the staff was ready to solve it and give us another room. Stunning view of the beach and of the pool.
Perfect base for a work trip, clean, comfortable and welcoming.
Prices of the meals were high compared to other places
Its on the beach but a bit far from 'centre' Room was clean and had a balcony with chairs and table
Breakfast is very poor. Very limited choice and most of it looked like leftovers.
A relaxing, lovely place with wonderful staff and beautiful sunsets by the beach.
Direct access to beach, nice bedrooms, good pool. The views. The calm.
Buffet breakfast cannot be called buffet. Just very few options and small quantities. Really the smallest breakfast option (buffet and non-buffet) that we have experienced in Sri Lanka so far. Other meals at hotel restaurant are overpriced for what you get. The access to the beach was not well maintained. My partner accidentally walked on screw nails that were covered with the sand, hurting his foot. Immediately the maintenance team came to remove wooden blocks with multiple screw nails which were left under the sand (possibly an old wooden pathway to the beach that was never removed). That incident left us with mixed emotions about this hotel. I’m sure it is fixed now by the maintenance team. Breakfast is surely an area for improvement.
Beach front hotel with friendly staff. A small hotel. Good size rooms. . Breakfast is really good.
There can be more lighting in the pool to enjoy the swim in the evening. The restaurant menu can improve, not many good options.
Everything was clean and the staff was lovely
This hotel is absolutely beautiful 🤩 one of the best hotels we stayed in Sri Lanka. The bedrooms are very comfortable and the view to the beach is just beautiful. We picked this hotel to chill in our last two days, and it was perfect. The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious.
Everything was perfect
The hotel is well situated and the staff are wonderful and make you feel at home, nothing is too much trouble. Food is delicious. This was my first trip to Sri Lanka and my first destination. I booked the hotel car to pick my up from the airport which was excellent as it’s almost 2 hours so knowing the car was there was perfect. Highly recommend the Lucky Elephant for your Hikkaduwa stay.
It's a good boutique hotel. The main highlights are the location and the suite room. I'm not sure about the other rooms, but the suite room is spacious, quite comfortable, and has a beautiful view of the sea. It features a big bathroom with a large bathtub, which is an added advantage. It also has a small infinity pool. As we went in the off-season, the nearby areas were almost deserted and quiet.
Nothing much except small breakfast buffet spread.
The pool and beach access perfect.
The restaurant food was average and breakfast was below average.
View and the pool
First day at breakfast, no food was available for my wife as she was a vegetarian. While having breakfast they started to clean our room without notice. When we went back to the room, we had to stay outside Middle of the shower the water stopped
Location was great Pool and front beach were amazing
Not so clean Couldn't take the towels to an outside beach and bring them back Breakfast was not great
Staff. Position.
Food especially breakfast which was very poor
Very clean, private hotel away from the busy centre. Perfect for a relaxing holiday. The pool / beach access from the hotel was very convenient. The best part was the staff, very helpful and amazing service. The restaurant manager Tyronne and his staff were very friendly. Delicious food at the restaurant at their restaurant ‘Port of Call’.
Customer service was excellent. We had a late flight back to Dublin so stuck around after check out and the hotel let us use facilities to shower before our flight. The hotel was very clean, well run and the food was delicious.
Such a fabulous hotel! I really enjoyed my stay in this beautiful, relaxing hotel which is right on the beach. There are lovely loungers by the pool and on the beach. The staff were exceptionally polite, friendly and obliging and always greeted us with a lovely smile. A special thank you to Tyronne and Dushia who went above and beyond to make sure every experience in the restaurant was exceptional. We particularly loved the variety at the buffet breakfast, and the fish, Samosas and brownies at dinner. The staff very kindly decorated the room for my mum's birthday which was really appreciated. The rooms were cleaned perfectly every day, with new towels and waters provided. The room was spacious, well air conditioned and very comfortable, and also had a balcony with lovely seats. Thanks for making our last stop in Sri Lanka such a special one.
Nothing
Good: - The rooms are clean and smell nice; - Beautiful view from the restaurant - There is a swimming pool; - Not a bad breakfast; - Very nice beach; - Friendly staff.
Not good: - The air conditioner does not cope with cooling the room; - The restaurant is outdoors and it's hot; - Many russian tourists.
Professional staff, welcoming, nice pool and the location. They allowed us even to have a late check out from the hotel for free due to unexpected delay of our flight. Thanks to the Team.
It would be better to have a larger or more spacious beach front. Area is a bit smaller at the beach front.
This is a lovely hotel next to a beautiful and clean beach. I enjoyed everything here: the big room, sitting on the balcony enjoying the view and sound of the ocean, the long and clean pool to cool off, the lounger on the beach (and even good wifi there), their breakfast. All in all a perfect place to relax 😃
They have a small gym. Because not many people use it, they don't keep the A/C running in there - which makes sense. So the workout in there felt like a sauna. So if you want to use the gym, ask them 1 hour before to turn on the A/C 😉
The hotel was lovely, and the staff was super friendly. They meet all your needs and are always happy to do so. The room was clean and beautifully made for our arrival. The location is great, as you can walk to the beach within seconds. It's a bit far from the centre but not a problem as you can walk or take a tuk-tuk, which is cheap and safe. Breakfast was good and the best in Sri Lanka we had.
The hotel is located in a quiet area of Hikkaduwa, a 5 minute Tuk Tuk from the town centre. We opted for a suite and we were not disappointed. The room is spacious, has AC, a fan, and has a balcony with fantastic views of the ocean. Comfortable bed and big bathroom with a shower and a bath, including toiletries. The staff are lovely, friendly and helpful. There’s an elevator/lift for those with mobility issues. The restaurant serves a good buffet breakfast, and the a la carte lunch and dinner menu is very good too. Great swimming pool. There is also a spa and gym. The hotel is right on the beach and also has sun loungers facing the sea. We had a very early checkout and so a takeaway breakfast box was arranged for us - very much appreciated! All in all a lovely hotel that we look forward to staying in again.
The property was beautiful and exactly as pictured. The staff were amazing and so attentive and helpful. It’s about a 10 minute walk to bars and restaurants but tuk tuks for 500 LKR so very cheap! Would 100% stay here again
Worth noting that the waves are very strong and you cannot swim in the sea. Wasn’t a negative for us but may be for others
We absolutely loved the place! The private beach access, the rooms, the pool, the delicious food and the wonderful staff made our holiday a memorable one. A must for a stay in hikkaduwa!
Great hotel with excellent service. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Nothing .
We stayed at the Hotel for a week, and I really appreciated everything that staff did for us. The room was great, not with a pool or ocean view, but it was excellent. The bed was very comfortable, air condition helped us much during the night - the temperature was comfortable. The bathroom was quite big, comfortable, quite new. Breakfasts included ordinary European meals like bread eggs and sausages, but also very taste local foods and lots of fruits and fresh juices. We also had dinner at the hotel restaurant - it was very tasty! Thanks for the hotel team. The hotel is close to the ocean, has a nice pool and everything that is need for beach rest. I highly recommend this hotel for visitors of Hikkaduwa - I am sure it is one of the best hotels in this location. Will definitely choose this hotel once again when travelling to Sri Lanka. Dear Hotel team, wish you all the best in future work! THANK YOU!
All was just perect
Great location and pool area with nice clean rooms and friendly staff
very friendly staff, comfortable and clean rooms
The staff are so friendly and welcoming, in particular Tyrone the restaurant manager. The location is excellent, slightly off the beaten track but an easy Tuk Tuk in to the main strip The swimming pool and sea view is fabulous The cleaning of rooms was to a very high standard
A very minor point, there could be more options at breakfast There could be more storage in bedrooms
laid back boutique hotel right at a quiet part of the beach, with pool, restaurant, and comfy sunbeds. Walking distance (20 Min) to turtle beach and town. Nice staff (in particular Danesh (?))
menu in the restaurant could have more vegetarian and local Sri-Lankan options. In contrast, breakfast is a buffet with mainly Sri-Lankan food, while I would rather have all the curries for dinner than in the morning ;)
Great location to national park
Outdated rooms. Bathroom was nice but bed and rooms needed updating for the price charged
