Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Great location. Staff were lovely and welcoming and the food was great. We left early as were were starting a long walk. We were too early for breakfast so they made us a lovely packed breakfast to go. Very much appreciated.
Welcoming and friendly staff,
All was good
The hotel looked tired, and in need of renovation. The dining area was uninviting. The cooked breakfast was below par. Overcooked and greasy, with tasteless sausages.
The location is super easy access to lovely walks without having to drive. The staff were great and the menu very good. Rooms were spacious and clean and comfortable.
The heavy traffic passing the pub but it didn't affect sleeping.
Freindly and helpful staff Location and parking
The room was perfect for what we needed, the breakfast was great.
Staff were very friendly. Let us store our luggage on the last day and come back to collect after our hike. It is next to Padley Gorge if you are planning to hike around that area. We had dinner there and food was great! Breakfast is also good too! They have some board games available so we can spend a good night in the pub with beer and games
It is very closed to the main road. Need to bring earplugs to block out the sound. Inn should start consider purchasing New Mattress as well. Drain in the shower is a bit slow.
Great location, staff and breakfast. Good value stay.
In the heart of Peak District, great for hiking tours, cozy meals and drinks
-
Lovely place. Friendly staff and great food.
The view
Road was very busy up until 3am. Crossing the road from the car park to the hotel was a bit tricky
Very helpful and welcoming staff, spacious room with nice views.
Dario and Claire, together with their lovely team, are friendly and helpful. Food and beer both good (excellent lasagne, beware of very substantial but delicious sandwiches!) Our room was clean, although up 2 steep flights of stairs (but Flavio helped with our bags), lovely dual-aspect views. Would definitely return!
Lighting and plug sockets not 100% conveniently positioned.
Bon esmorzar.
Desde la habitacio se sentia molt sorroll de la carretera, molestava per dormir( si tenies la finestre oberta).
Great location and very reasonably priced. Staff were extremely friendly & helpful.
Our bed was extremely comfortable so we had a good night's sleep. As it was my birthday and our anniversary Dario cooked me an excellent ribeye steak while my wife enjoyed a lovely pasta meal. At the same time he presented us with complimentary Preseco. A lovely relaxing 3 night stay.
The noisy main road was not good. Steep stairs to our room.
Lovely staff; very accommodating with just the right amount of attention. Excellent food at very good prices. Local well kept beer too. Our room was very quiet, clean and comfortable.
Lovely locstion, got to be careful crossing the road from the car park to the hotel.
Fabulous location, staff were great and the room was spacious.
Nothing we loved our stay!
Very close to Hathersage. Very pleasant staff.
Rooms and bathroom need some updating . Shower drain faulty . Noise from traffic as on main road
The hosts were welcoming and helpful
Very convenient for us as walking the 9 edges. Comfy bed, excellent breakfast with great service.
On a busy road and out was hot at night but coolant have window open. A little expensive at £162 for a double room but it was August weekend.
Its character and history It is not a chain and you can tell
Nothing
great location, views and food
double bed was basically 2 twin beds pushed together with 2 single duvets so not the romantic retreat we were hoping for
Amazing location, stunning views and walks! Really lovely customer service! Comfy bed!
Great staff! Lovely owners.
Friendly staff.Nice clean rooms in a great location.
Friendliness of staff, lovely views and good breakfast
Some written instructions about how shower and TV worked
*Staff were super friendly *Rooms were modern and spacious *Breakfast was tasty *Great parking

Beautiful setting
It shut at night early
View
Breakfast was not good. Overpriced for the room
Fantastic Italian meal. Staff were great Beautiful views from hotel
Lovely place situated I'd say a 15 minute walk to Hathersage shops and bars. There's a bus stop smack bang outside for those not fancying the walk. I was worried I'd hear traffic but we were on the back so didn't hear it. Staff super friendly, room lovely for a 1 nighter walking trip and veggi breakfast spot on ✌🏼
Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice of cerials/ juice. Full Engkish breakfast was really good. Staff were pleasant and attentive.
worked well with very good views across Hope valley
Chambre familiale tres propre et spacieuse Accueil chaleureux Petit déjeuner copieux
Juste à côté d'une route tres passante
The moment we walked in we were greeted by really friendly and welcoming staff. The beds were very comfy and we loved the bar area, outside seating area and food. They also had a great reggae singer there on the Friday night we stayed which was a big bonus. Sitting on the top deck looking over the stunning view was perfect. Would highly recommend! We loved it so much we tried to book the following night too but they were sold out...we'll definitely be back.
Nothing, everything was great!
Breakfast was lovely, as was the dinner we had on the night of arrival. Beautiful views and comfortable rooms.
Lovely friendly atmosphere with polite smiling friendly staff. Location is in the middle to where most places are to visit. Will be booking again for next June. Room for 3 was big and comfy enough
Nothing really. Just a very busy road. Didn't keep us awake. The choice for breakfast was very good. Traditional breakfast was hot and tasty.
Great location, plenty of parking, dog friendly and a really good breakfast. Stayed with a friend in a family room - nice big room with 1 single and 1 double bed. Great place to stay, recommend it.
Staff were all very friendly and helpful. It is an excellent location to explore the Peaks. Very quiet. Just outside Hathersage (easy walk in) with plentiful parking. Fab breakfast
No complaints at all
The location was beautiful really close to fantastic walks. The staff were so lovely and welcoming. The rooms were spacious and the beds super comfy. All of the food was delicious, I couldn’t recommend this place enough. Would love to come back!
Location is great, beautiful view, big parking, delicious food
We arrived in the afternoon, had a warm welcome from the lovely owner Dario who was super friendly and helpful. Had dinner at the hotel enjoying the excellent views from the outdoor eating area. The atmosphere was friendly and cheerful, the food was fresh and delicious. We had a great stay overall!
It was a very hot day when we arrived and it took a while to cool down the room (which had a fantastic view over the moors) as only one of the many windows could be opened
Check in , waited for to have a pint and did not push me even it was an hour late. So freindly, escorted to our room which was very clean and comfortable. Veiws worth double the price. breakfast superb.
Car park huge, but at times of day can be difficult to cross as on wrong side of the road and on a corner down hill, to be honest the bicyclist's where the main menace. Most local traffic knew and were careful.
We were a large group on a walking weekend, about 16 of us stayed at the Millstone, but the whole group had three evening meals at the Millstone, there were about 40 of us. My fiancee and I had a very nice room, very clean and comfortable, we slept well. For the meals, we had agreed a limited menu with Dario, to simplify the logistics of serving 40 people. The food was excellent, delicious, and efficiently served. We had sirloin steak one night, excellent, the lasagne was also highly praised by some folk. Dario and his team did everything possible to be friendly, helpful and welcoming. He even made special arrangements to be open for us on a Sunday evening. Happy to recommend the Millstone as suitable for couples, walkers and large groups.
Breakfast and dinner was superb
We had great hospitality from Dario, Claire and family. We had booked a 4 night stay and to be honest expected more from our room. It was quite small but had a fabulous view from window which only opened about 2". Bed was uncomfortable as hard and creaky. Only an open cupboard thing to put clothes in as hate my belongings on show. Could have done with shelf in bathroom as ample space in corner instead of placing toiletries on toilet cistern. Room was not serviced at all or offered during our stay which was disappointing, and we disposed of our rubbish ourselves. Breakfast ok but same every day. Evening food was fine. Hate writing this as think money needs spending on rooms but a very welcoming place.
We popped in here for a drink and ended up staying for dinner. The food was gorgeous. The service was so friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was relaxed. We were so happy we dropped in and will definitely be coming back.
Location. Simply amazingly beautiful place. Service was excellent, cordial and professional with nice personal touches such as advice about and directions to local points of interest. Super nice people working here. Food was Italian based but other cuisine styles, including vegetarian options were available.
We understand that the Millstone is in a transitional phase, having undergone management change in October 2025 We’re looking forward to a revisit in the future and anticipate great things from the enthusiastic manager and staff.
Really friendly and helpful staff
Needed a fan in the room as too hot to sleep
The family/ Dario and Clare were so warm and welcoming and when we realised we would benefit from an additional room helped us as much as possible.
The lack of hanging space in the hallway part of the room for coats, it would be helpful. Also in the bathroom there was only one hanging hook for four people’s towels. There was a lack of cleaning under the beds and so some dust bunnies were in the attached bunk bedroom
Staff were so accommodating and did all they could to help us check in a bit early. Lovely rooms, very clean. Great breakfast in the morning!
Brilliant location, with a wonderful terrace directly overlooking the Peak District. You are right there! Good breakfast, plenty of character, and the owners are friendly - the lady even came to our door to see if we needed anything.
Lovely location, Friendly staff, super comfortable.
Not much at all. Could do with faster wifi... just like everywhere. Not an issue
Friendly and helpful staff
Excellent place for a Motorhome stopover, £5 a night if you don't use the facility! Outstanding location friendly Pub which serves food, nice walks in the immediate area ( to another pub😉). Dog friendly as well as having an extra large carpark, its based on a first come first served, no bookings needed just pure luck of the draw. For a wet day it has loads of board games inside to help pass the time. It's a fantastic little stop over, we will be back.
The location and the history, breakfast
The facilities are quite outdated and not in a ‘vintage’ way, amenities are very basic, cleanliness could be better. No outlets near bed, only one big towel per person, shower water accumulating in the tray until almost overflowing (for a 15min shower). Had a simple pasta at restaurant downstairs and it was overcooked, lacking salt and overpriced.
Very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room and bed, spectacular views.
Traffic outside was pretty loud, since we had to keep the windows open to get some fresh air.
Fantastic stay.... Claire and Dario were lovely hosts. Lovely location with lovely views. Great location to explore Derbyshire
Great location. Friendly proprietors and staff. Good breakfast.
Closes on Sunday evening, leaving guests to fend for themselves. Rooms not serviced.
The Millstone Inn is in an excellent location for exploring the Northern Dales of Derbyshire and just by the small town of Hathersage. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Our room was on the first floor with comfortable beds and had good views of the nearby hills. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast each morning. We were impressed with the array of freshly prepared fruit on offer to accompany the cereals and array of pastries. We also enjoyed the freshly cooked breakfasts on offer. We also ate dinner in the hotel on a couple of nights. The richness of the sauce with the lasagne is wonderful. The new owners are making great improvements and we wish them well with their endeavours.
A small improvement to the shower-room would be the addition of a shelf to store wash bags and toiletries.
Pleasant staff
Small room
Great place lovely breakfast Friendly helpful staff
Nothing
Good experience but I wouldn’t want to stay more than one night
We stayed in the little John room. The toilet and sink are too close together. The bathroom needs to be a bit bigger. The hotel was nice but not amazing or anything special.
Good service, comfortable bed and excellent breakfast.
Friendly staff. Spacious room.
10am check out is too early.
Friendly staff, good breakfast
Was at the top of the hotel in a heatwave so room wad very hot. Maybe could have some fans available in the rooms on these occasions.
Location was great. A decent breakfast, staff were good
The rooms were so hot. It had been extremely hot weather but there’s no through draft and the room we had only had a very small window for ventilation. The fan worked but you couldn’t angle it so it could be faced towards the beds.
Comfy bed
No taxis. Not worth £187
View surrounded the property is amazing! Breakfast is good. Room fit well for 3 of us. Very good value for money!!
No lift but it is ok as we stay only one night. Overall still recommend!
The room was comfortable and the bar and breakfast area were nicely laid out. Breakfast as good and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Lovely family run place.
Close to the road so some noise with windows open on the heat. Not a major problem.
Location on the out skirts of hathersage is perfect for walking stanage edge Breakfast was very good and the staff very helpful . Good selection of beers. It has a comfortable outside seating area on the 1st floor for residents with lovely views
Nothing
Cosy friendly place. Easy safe parking space across the road
Road nearby a touch noisy (I usually bring earplugs, so it was fine)
Menu selection extremely poor. Time to order food closed early
Comfortable beds, home cooked food, nice beer choice, excellent English breakfast. Loved the music played in the bar and breakfast area. Very friendly and helpful staff and owners.
A little bit of road noise, but it didn't affect our sleeping. Water was extremely hot so be careful with the tap.
Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and wish it could have been more! It is in an excellent location for exploring a beautiful area. We had wonderful views from our room, which was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious! The staff were very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the food in the restaurant, especially the lasagne, prepared by the Italian owner. Honestly the best I have ever tasted!
The Millstone Country Inn is in a wonderful location, with good access to walks and amenities.
Manager went out of his way to arrange food/drinks despite kitchen being closed for the day.
Shower needs hair to be removed from shower-trap as was causing overflowing.
There is expansive free car parking, the breakfasts are good although the selection of croissants/pastries could be widened. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable and the bar had a good choice of drinks.
The bar hours were shortened in the evenings when the number of guests were low, so when we came back from town the bar was usually shut by 21:30. The evening meals seemed to lack quality, particularly when compared to other local pub restaurants - not bad, just not as good as others.
Breakfast was very good. Staff were exceptionally helpful. Service was very good.
Busy road nearby.
Solo walker, room only. If walking across the train track, expect a steep hill. Check in was easy, room was ready before 2pm. Friendly staff. Showed me my room and outlined alternative way in. Asked if I wanted breakfast, to which I declined. Told me my room was the biggest but they aren’t super spacious, bed fills most the room. This doesn’t bother me though, as was a reasonable price. Liked the touch of the book about derbyshire in the room! On a main road but I slept well regardless. Stones throw from bus stop, I used this to get into Hathersage after so much walking that day (trying save my legs as it is a 15-20min walk depending on your fitness), for me this was the only downside of the location. Beautiful country all around you though. Buses were hourly into Hathersage.
Friendly and helpful staff. Clean, comfortable rooms. Great views. Very nice breakfast.
A 15 min walk out of town
We have been staying at The Millstone Country Inn for the past few years, using it as a base for walking in the Peak District. We love the atmosphere & character of the place. After a very enjoyable stay last year, we suggested to our walking group (Pontypool Ramblers) that we could use it for a group walking holiday. Dario, Claire and the team made our group very welcome and met all our expectations. The rooms were clean, well presented and most importantly, comfortable. Meals were delicious, well prepared and much needed after a day's walking. Our group were so impressed that they are already asking us to arrange a return trip. A big thank you to Dario & the team who made our stay very enjoyable.
The place was lovely, with a great restaurant downstairs. We also enjoyed hiking in the surrounding area - the hotel provided a map with three routes starting right from the doorstep, along with very detailed directions. We really enjoyed the hike.
The people. The location. They clearly wanted to make our stay as enjoyable as possible
Nothing
The personnel was very friendly and warm, very kind people. The food at the restaurant was quite good, above expectations, nice drinks, relaxed atmosphere. Clean room, with an extra bed for our child. We traveled by car so the location was good for us, we didn’t mind that it’s a bit more isolated. Big parking in front of the hotel was very convenient.
The bed was pretty narrow for 2 people, it felt like 140cm, but not a big problem. No air conditioning.
Great service throughout Staff went above and beyond to assist us, which was much appreciated The food was great and the accommodation was very comfortable
We stayed in the pub car park in our campervan and we had a drink and breakfast the next morning. Highly recommend they were very friendly and helpful. Fod was spot on. We had a dog too. 5 star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Omg what a friendly place, stayed in a camper on there carpark overnight overlooking longshaw estate I think, had a breakfast in the morning in the pub, best breakfast I’ve had in a long time, all the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and went above and beyond 10/10 from me
Idyllic spot with amazing views and many walikg routes through countryside!
Access to a coffee at any time, like early in the morning!
If i could score higher than 10 I would, we didnt want to leave!! The hospitality was second to none. Everything from arriving, the friendliness, cleanliness, views, the food. It was all just perfect. Grazie Mille for making us feel so welcome. We will definitely return 😀
The staff are excellent, very attentive and lovely. The bed is sooooo comfortable and huge! The food was delicious. The location is perfect. We did part of the steel cotton trail and then stayed there and it was great.
Nothing
The hotel is only up the hill from the centre of Hathersage, with lovely views back down the valley. The owners are so friendly; great food (loved the authentic Italian food- the tiramisu and cannoli are to die for! but English classics are on the menu too); breakfast is a treat (the fresh fruit and pastries are a lovely touch); the room met our needs with a great view.
Zero complaints. How could you — great location, great staff, great food, access to great walks (we’re walkers). What’s not to like! We’re already planning our next trip there. Excellent value for money.
great view and hospitality.
breakfast late
Staff were very helpful. Didn't use the pub but room was comfortable & clean.
It was mostly good, bathroom door was noisy.
