Comfortable beds, clean bathroom with a decent shower. Good continental breakfast.
Great room and friendly staff… good food and drink
Location
The room was very small and no air conditioning.
The outside restaurant sitting place
What I saw on the website is totally different from the real set up I
We had a really lovely stay here for 2 nights. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Room was well thought out, very clean and comfortable. A good selection of food and drinks with both indoor and outdoor seating. I would definitely stay here again.
Town centre, nice restaurant, friendly staff, good food.
Stayed before Very clean and modern Staff friendly and efficient Room had everything we needed Comfy bed Plentiful continental breakfast
TV complicated tv channels very hard to find
The location was fine and breakfast was okay
The size of the room was terrible and needed updating. For £160 per night it was way overpriced. The view from the window was atrocious. Very disappointed overall compared to other hotels that I have stayed in at less the price. Room 8.
Check-in and check out were very easy and fast. The room is well decorated. The free parking is located very nearby.
The bed is quite short for people taller than 180 cm. The size of the small room is very small.
Location was great. Great facilities and super clean.
No bedside sockets in my room (12). Room was back corner of the building above the kitchen so noisy (when kitchen in use) and no view (looking onto fake garden netting).
The hotel was stunning. The staff were so friendly and helpful to me and my dog too. Such a lovely relaxing atmosphere and the food was great!
Staff were very kind - especially the night porter who went the extra mile when we arrived late & tired.
View was of a building site…
Extrem kleine Zimmer die vorhandenen Bilder sind teilweise nicht entsprechend der Ausstattung
A ‘bistro’ atmosphere, very convivial. Staff cared about the place and were friendly and efficient. Excellent food.
Nothing
The decor in the room and the communal area was nice and modern. Good location in the town. Breakfast was ok but continental only - it would have been useful to know this when we booked. The bathroom was good and was clean.
The room was very small and uncomfortably hot despite the fact that it was a cool day. I mentioned the excessive heat in the room and a member of staff said she would try to get an additional fan but one never arrived. The corridors and communal areas were nice and cool. The bar closed at 10pm which we were not advised of when we checked in. At 10.15 we couldn't get a drink even though there was a night porter. There was no chair in the room so we had to sit on the bed. There was a stool at the mirror but when you sat down you couldn't see the mirror. I thought the price was very high for a Sunday night.
Excellent gluten free menu options for evening meal and plenty of options for breakfast, even gluten free pastries! Staff were warm and friendly, rooms were amazing, great place to stay.
Breakfast was good delicious fruit Especially as 2 of us were Coeliac and plenty of gluten free was provided
Stairs difficult for elderly people or disabled But we’re a feature
Amazing hotel and lovely staff
It is v economical and the staff are nice.
The wing where are rooms were was so much hotter than the other areas is the hotel (plus the radiators were on and it was 24 degrees outside). The TV didn’t work. The green light on the ceilings in all the rooms is very difficult to sleep with
location lovely, room lovely. Staff great
Breakfast wasn’t the best
We had a lovely stay at this hotel. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Our room was quiet, comfortable and perfect for a relaxing night’s sleep. The hotel is in a fantastic central location, just a few minutes’ walk from the train station, making it an ideal base for exploring the area. We also enjoyed the food – the menu offered a great selection and everything we had was very good.
The only small points for us were the breakfast and pillows. Personally, I would have preferred a cooked breakfast, but the continental options were excellent, with a wide variety of fresh, good-quality choices available. The room had four pillows, but they were all the same standard softness. It would have been nice to have a choice, such as two standard and two firmer pillows, to suit different preferences.
Riva Helensburgh now have a new look bistro Sante They provide small plates similar to Tapas. On our first visit beginning of July 2026 we ordered 4 different plates each , the food was delicious and very well presented with tasty dips .we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and complimented the staff. We returned on 13 th July hoping to repeat the experience. I cannot fault the service , we ordered the same dishes but they were nothing like our first visit , the salmon pasta was 🆗, the beef pasta was in a thick brown Oxo like sauce not good then croquettes were deep fried and over cooked. The meal was extremely disappointing compared to our first visit. Perhaps there has been a change of suplier /chef/cook
Well-located, nice bar and restaurant, breakfast included. Room amenities were available
A little too hot though there was a fan in the room
Lovely staff and very kind. Having the breakfast included was nice.
Very helpful staff. Delicious evening meal.
Bad odour in bathroom. Very small supper portion.
Lovely hotel.Great location
Staff could be a bit more attentive at breakfast. I know it is self service continental, but had to wait a wee while to get coffee. Could to with a new toaster. But breakfast was nice.
Głośno od ulicy , bardzo niewygodny miekki materac
Our bedroom was spacious and nicely equipped.
Our bedroom radiator seemed to be permanently on warm even in off position so the room was very hot in spite of a fan and windows open. Breakfast was abominable. Only very sweet pastries, even the croissant was filled with some jam substance, The fruit was like a reject from a greengrocer , the coffee was as weak as water.
Staff were lovely & very helpful. Bedroom small but perfect for a few nights stay. Food at the restaurant/bar was excellent & very good value.
Personally I would prefer a cooked breakfast while I'm away for a short break. However the continental breakfast was lovely..
The hotel has a lovely location.
The pillow on my bed was absolutely filthy with not even a pillow case to hide it. Was genuinely quite shocked. £140 for the room ? TV didn’t work at all. Hope this was a terrible one off ….
The room was fantastic, on checking in the staff member on reception was able to recognise one of the party had mobility issues and instantly changed the room, excellent customer service. The staff member on reception was Paige she was fantastic couldn't do enough for us. Also another staff member who deserves a special mention was Scott again couldn't do enough for us.
We had nothing we didn't like
Nice proportioned room. Nice bar and staff, decent breakfast
I didn’t like the green light mounted on the ceiling that was permanently on. That impacted our sleep quite a lot
What a fantastic weekend. Decided on the Riva because it was dog friendly. It's much, much more. Staff are just fantastic, ready to answer and help with anything. From reception staff to Colin, the night porter, totally focused on making our stay, just right. Our room was stunning, spacious, with a view out onto the sea. We ate in the restaurant on our second night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Food was great as was the friendly service. As a location, great access to the Trossachs, Loch Lomond and then further out west. They truly care about making dogs welcome. Treats, beds and bowls everywhere with unlimited fuss. I don't know who enjoyed it more, us or our two Border Collies.
The hotel is lovely and the location is excellent. Staff were very nice. We ate in the hotel one night and were very happy with the food and service we received. Fresh towels every day was great.
I think if we had the opportunity to get snacks later in the evening ie a toastie etc this would have been good but not a deal breaker
The room was as I had experienced on a previous stay. It was comfortable and clean.
Having stayed here previously I found the dinning and breakfast facilities very disappointing. The service at dinner was slow and our sharing plates arrived at different time through the meal. Breakfast was even more disappointing, a few hams and cheeses, with a small selection of pastries and bread.
Pleasant staff, friendly, food excellent, bed low but exceptionally comfy. Central, easy parking, good access to everything. Great charity shops to browse in, lots of coffee shops and good eating places. Fish and chips excellent as is icecream shops. One sells a purple sorbet sonething dragon , highly recommed. Recreation centre opposite due to open in october, great place for evening walks.
No hot water one night
Great location on the sea front. Quirky decor. Good size mugs in the room, lovely addition of a coffee Machine with plenty of pods. Really nice pint would recommend the Riva Premium and nice touch of a 10% discount on drinks for guests. The Lady who booked us in was really hospitable warm and welcoming and the best member of staff the others need to take note from her.
Tiny room not as advertised as 16 sqm, Disappointing that the restaurant was closed due to leak so we had to eat out. Our hotel room door didn’t close properly which felt unsafe and rattle when other guests walked past, We could hear every noise from neighbouring room. The kettle flex didn’t reach the plug from the table which was quite dangerous with how small the room was. In the morning there was no Hot water, No explanation or apology given. The staff member at breakfast spent the whole time talking on mobile phone, with the phone cradled into her neck while serving guests. Breakfast is limited continental few meats and cheeses, cereal and pastries (not fresh) only one 2 slice toaster available. At check out the staff member was still on her phone!!
Location was good but the breakfast was extremely poor very little choice no cooked breakfast
Bedroom and toilet were extremely cramped virtually no room in the toilet and the bed took up most of the room and trying to get hold of the staff was difficult
We liked the central location. We liked the style , decor of the hotel.. The staff were exceptionally, so friendly and helpful.
We didn't like how hot the room was, even with the fan provided. It really impacted our sleep.
The location
The size of room very small
Location
First room we were offered smelled . The view was over kitchen extracts. Stairs were dirty. Second room which was offered after our complaint ,had good views and adequate shower. However bed was uncomfortable.
Perfect location for a wedding we were at, beautiful room and lovely breakfast
the only downside was the room was extremely hot
Lovely staff, very helpful, cannot say enough how lovely/helpful all staff were they really make the hotel! Upgraded to a family room which was a nice surprise and even a record player with records in room, elegant yet quirky room, clean (apart from previous guest hiding fruit in drawer which had gone bad but not hotels fault)
the heat!! windows were a bit open (you cant make them wider) and one fan for such a large room..the fan's safety cover wouldn't stay on which isnt great if children, and we missed the breakfast cos last time to have is 9:30 and we were on a break so a bit later to get up and have would have been a nice option. The cold tap was odd in bathroom, it mostly came out hot which was difficult when trying to brush teeth or fill dogs water bowl but to be fair if you keep trying it eventyually will come out cold.
Room and breakfast were nice
The shower did not work. We had been walking in the highlands and got a nice hotel room thinking we would really enjoy getting cleaned up and relaxing. The staff were responsive and apologetic but offered no recourse or compensation. The room was almost 300£ so having no operational shower was really unacceptable.
Location
Glass door in washroom. Very small room. Very hot even after heating turned off. Breakfast hit or miss.
Cosy
Breakfast
Great views on the Loch, comfy cushions in the window sills, good shower. Room looked really nice. Free parking close to the hotel incl charging points. Dog friendly. Great overall!
Ventilator in shower wasn’t working
Location worked for me
Near to bars and restaurants
Spacious, very modern, and spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The location is excellent—right on the main street and close to pubs and restaurants.

Mooie plek en de kamers waren mooi maar 1 geboekte kamer erg klein
Het 2 persoonsbed was klein. De deur maakte lawaai.
Everything was perfect except...
Glass bathroom door. Totally see through. Absolutely no thank you. Asked to change rooms but apparently they are all the same. ????? Won't stay again due to this.
The location is superb. Right in the heart of Helensburgh with ready access to public transport. Also wide range of bars restaurants eateries nearby
Nothing
The location was excellent
Room was overcrowded with stuff not required like a record player for example . I know it’s a boutique hotel but stuff in the too. That didn’t have to be there just taking up space .
The Riva Hotel was everything expected from the website and other reviews. The Twin Room booked was lovely and was thrilled to find a record player in it, and I must say the choice of 45's found was just perfect to bring memories flooding back which was the reason for our visit after 50 years away from the town. The continental breakfast gave an excellent choice and staff were so obliging if something not available was asked for.
Leaving 😭
The bar/restaurant staff were so friendly and attentive.
The duvet and pillows were spiky with feathers and made it extremely uncomfortable to sleep. The room was described as King but was very small. I definitely wouldn't describe this as a boutique hotel.
Room facing the front with two big windows. Room size was great. Room was clean and bed comfortable. Location was ideal for a wedding we attended at Lodge on Lough Lomond.
Would have been nice to have had a cooked breakfast or at least some boiled eggs with the cold meats on selection. Coffee machine in room was flashing red when we tried to use it so Google informed me it needed descaled hence not working. There was a kettle and coffee and tea sachets provided so all was well.
Location was great Breakfast was poor
The room was very small and to hot . The heating was turned off and it was difficult to open the window. There was no view from the window a wall with hedging attached. Apparently we should have been in another room which I think would have had a good view and the windows would have opened easily
clean. Most staff friendly. Quiet. Comfortable Bed.
En suite wall just a glass screen. Cheapest ever breakfast that wasn't fresh. Fruit was warm and slimy. Bread was cheap sliced bread. Pastries weren't fresh. Just sugar laden cereals. Continental breakfast was shop sliced bread with some charcuterie. Cheese wasn't continental. It was small packets of processed, so called, red Leicester, cheddar and mini baby bells. Room was too full of bits and bobs. A coffee machine and a kettle. A record player for some reason. A bottle of warm tap water for some reason. A single pod each for the machine doesn't justify a machine. If you're going to provide a coffee machine, provide enough coffee for it to be useful. When compared to the price the cheap breakfast and other small things that are done on the cheap could be improved to make a much better experience.
Modern well appointed hotel with beautiful rooms bar and excellent restaurant Rooms were very well appointed tea/ coffee complimentary biscuits and chocolates Good WiFi - large TV Modern en-suite bathroom soft towels and shower gel and shampoo Hair dryer and iron in the room Good choice continental breakfast included Fred parking close by - and easy walking distance to local amenities
Nothing
The breakfast was good, as was the cocktail menu and bar staff. The decor in the room was lovely, and the sea view was great.
The room was quite dusty, including the coffee cups and bedding. Animal hair was found a fair bit throughout the room and the bedding wasn't as clean as it could've been. It is a shame the kitchen had fridge issues
Fabulous location. Near to everything. Room was very comfortable. Gail was fantastic to deal with when I needed to change dates around. Any other staff we saw were very pleasant.
Breakfast could have been better. A tiny two slice toaster meant we waited ages for toast and because we were still eating at 9.30 when breakfast finishes I didn’t expect everything to be whipped away at 9.30 on the dot. Another coffee and a pastry would have been nice. We then felt we couldn’t really sit and chat because everything was away.
The property is a hidden gem, we booked it last minute for an Easter getaway. The place is modern, quirky and the place is just an all round 10 out of 10. The rooms are perfect, the decor is spectacular and that staff are truly phenomenal. We just got home yesterday and we’re planning our next stay already 🥰
Wanted to get away for a few days to relax and the Riva was a great place to do tjis
Stylish room in a great location for local walks, bars and restaurants. Many locations dog friendly
The room rate is excellent. Temperature control could have been better on radiator but heat to have windows which open for air flow vs some hotels
Lovely staff team and great location. Nice bar and eatery.
Glass door to bathroom.
Great location lovely bar and resteraunt
Room 3 was a bit small but comfortable shower did not work toilet door was glass so when you go to the toilet during the night and put the light on it wakens your partner up
Schöne Zimmer, liebevoll eingerichtet
Frühstück ist ausbaufähig
Rooms were comfortable, clean and decor was pleasing.
Stairs curved and no lift. Not great with people with poor mobility
The staff are what makes this place - so friendly and can’t so enough for you and I felt welcome. The rooms were a wee bit small but I didn’t mind. The bed was super comfy. There is not cooked breakfast but I didn’t mind, as you always eat too much - there were plenty of good options for me. The hotel does get really warm and as you would expect with the coast - seagulls, so take some ear plugs, open the window and you will be fine.
Friendly staff

Great room & great location.

Toilet plumbing abit nosy at night. But apart from that lovely hotel and stay. Staff where exceptional.
Location is briliant I love it Scottish breakfast, was to good.

Nice comfortable room
The breakfast was appalling wouldn’t feed a budgie and we had to wait for the girl to bring bread out for toast then we had to wait for cheese and ham to come out they didn’t have a clue to peoples needs I won’t go back
Especially liked the shower in the room very good room .
Everything was great .
It was very cosy & homely, loved that the toilet floor was warm, room was a good size.
Don’t think there was anything I didn’t like
The location
Staff frendly, perfect communication skills have
Nothing
It was a perfect place for us. Room was clean and well laid out (if a wee bit small), dinner in the evening was good, and the continental breakfast was perfect. We'll be back.
Comfy Clean Staff were great
Location was perfect.
Staff were very friendly
Booking .com let me pay an extra £20 for dinner which the hotel did not accept so there for had to pay again for my dinner
Staff and room facilities were good. The disappointment was the fact that we were surrounded by and wakened around o6.00am by workmen outside our bedroom door chatting!! We felt as if we were sleeping in a workmen’s bothy! Not what anyone would expect. The space outside our room was dreadful, paint, furniture, ladders etc. couldn’t believe guests were subject to all this.
