The staff were great. Annie the manager was so welcoming and helpful.
It was all good.
Very friendly staff n made very welcome with out little dog
Great location, friendly staff
Great view from the room. Excellent breakfast. Good pub food in the evening with helpful staff.
In general the service was really good
I thought the breakfast could have been better
Breakfast, dinner and easy to park
Room had a musty smell, shower curtain had orange and black mold all around the hem, black streaks around the base of the wall in the bathroom. King bed had a coverlet split down the middle making a crack/seam and the mattress was completely worn out.
Perfect location. Lovely decor inside. Spotlessly clean.
Small double bed. Not allowed to run a tab when eating/ drinking in the bar.
We had a wonderful overnight stay. The location is beautiful and we enjoyed a walk on the pebble beach. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. We had a very tasty steak for dinner. The waitress was very friendly and took time to chat as she worked. All in all a very pleasant stay. Would recommend it and plan to return.
Nothing
Lovely view from room over Firth of Clyde. Plenty of parking.
Breakfast was poor - coffee was cold, no choice of bread (2 out of 3 mornings), non-cooked breakfast generally inadequate. Window in room could not be closed when weather turned rainy and cold. Interior of building looking a bit 'tired'!
Location, staff service, quality of the room.
Food options where very limited and endup spending more money out side and spending time to look what's available to dine around. Coffee and Breakfast also not upto the quality.
The staff was great The food was amazing
Nothing
Friendly staff lovely room very reasonably priced
Noise of the toilet flushing in the bathroom ..door would not close properly in bathroom
A great location on the waterfront. Friendly staff, and a nice breakfast
We stayed after attending a wedding
The room decor was nice, decent location for Helensburgh
The wifi was terrible and the room was a bit dingy, the bathroom window had no curtain, was ground level and the shower was right beside so only frosted glass maintaining your privacy, food was mediocre
Second time I've stayed at Ardencaple. Both times excellent. Room very comfortable and clean. I didn't have opportunity to take advantage of the dinner, but the menu looked decent. The breakfast was excellent - great choice of cooked food and cold buffet, and with a wonderful view over the water. Perfect place to stay while I'm in the area (annually).
My key to the main door didn't work when I returned late, but the night manager came to the door promptly when hailed and let me in with a smile. That was my only issue.
Location food and staff
Black mould in shower tray ( rm18) Dust and cobwebs under radiator
Staff were very good
Nothing special
Didn't got the room I've booked. I booked a family room with a normal bathroom. Ended up in a room with a bathroom for wheelchairs. Nothing comfortable when you are 1.90 high. There was also a lot of dust everywhere. Spiderwebs, like in the breakfast room. Food was ok. Burger to well done. Still waiting for the coffee we ordered. And to be honest, didn't feel welcome by the host by checking in. So for this price and our experience it is a no go.
The rooms have recently been renovated, so were in great condition. The restaurant food was very good.
Great room , food and super staff .
A clean and well-appointed room, friendly staff. A great breakfast.
Reasonable room size
The shower was full of mould and flaking paint, to the paint where it's probably a health hazard. I was ignored at the check in desk for about 10 minutes, i rang the bell twice but i just heard some office staff giggling and having a chuckle in the office room while i waited...
The location to where my niece lives is why we stayed here. I like the front bar the views are lovely on a nice day.
The hotel is very dated, rooms need a major make over, walls had paint falling off, windows so old you can hear everything. There were stains on duvet covers. Breakfast stops too early at 9am on holiday some people like to sleep on. The hotel has the potential to be much nicer.
Great location, well presented and great rooms
Nothing
Good location. Good breakfast. Helpful staff but no one manning reception . No reply from my message to Green kings after two days and their phone number is answered by a bot. Dreadful state of hotel. Badly in need of decoration and it was dirty throughout. Strong smell of drains in both bedrooms I slept in, also in the downstairs areas. Dirty toilet, mirror not cleaned, toilet paper stuffed into pipes, shower cubicle in need of painting. Downstairs ladies’ toilet floor filthy. It’s a huge shame about this run down hotel as the location, views and breakfast are great.
Stayed whilst on holiday - basic, comfortable rooms for price paid. Breakfast warm and plentiful. Staff friendly, no complaints.
Hi, me and my partner came to stay to climb Ben Nevis. We arrived late and left early, we come in slept and then got up and got dressed to head to the mountains. I tried a new gym top on to show my partner and then took it off (tags still on) placed it on the sofa and then got appropriately dressed for the day. When we got back the top was gone! We raised the complaint. The manager was rude and tried to say cleaners only opened the door because it was messy (clothes on the sofa - and CREATINE next to the CREATINE packet - as we were exercising on the side from where we put it in our coffee!!!) they proceeded to change the subject saying there was white stuff on the side and mess so we didn’t actually clean it (but admitted someone HAD gone up!!!) someone in the back on the phone when we called back after agreeing we’d double triple check our bags once home and call back, kept repeating - iv not taken it iv not taken it! The manager then had a go at my partner and snottily said fine leave a review when he said people should be made aware. She had no resolution and just kept trying to change the subject!! We damaged nothing and the ‘mess’ she tried to justify a theft with, and the ‘white stuff ‘ she tried to use to try threaten us or something being creatine - so even more humiliating that I had a £20 top with tags stolen let alone being accused of something to diffuse what the real issue is!!! If each person gets a £20 odd item stolen every time they are there and just thinks, ah well. And management does not care then it’l keep happening again and again ! It’s not even about the money, it’s about honesty and the disrespect and low key threats trying to make out we were doing something, that had nothing to do with the issue in hand! A formal letter has been sent to greenkings main issue so I hope for a better response!!!
We visited on a hot and sunny Friday afternoon and were immediately welcomed by friendly, attentive staff who took our drinks order and guided us to an outside table. When I returned to the bar to order lunch the person serving refused to take our order unless I gave her the number of our table. She explained this was necessary as in the past food had been delivered to the wrong table and consumed by those sitting at the table who then left while the people who paid for the food were still waiting. In response I told her what table we were sitting at and that it could be identified as the table with no number. She insisted all tables were numbered. We were at stalemate until another member of staff said he knew where we were sitting and would take responsibility for delivering the food to the right table. Crisis over I returned to our table. The food arrived promptly and all three of us enjoyed our meals which were properly cooked and piping hot. As we were about to leave I spotted what looked like a half-buried ten pence coin glinting in the gravel under our table. When I picked it up I discovered the number on it was not 10 but 69. I had found the number of our table and I presented it to the staff along with a tip.
Location excellent, Staff very friendly and helpful.
Couple of minor niggles with the room. Shower not operating properly - cold shower only! Toilet seat loose. Room door needed adjustment. Biggest disappointment was the restaurant -- we'd previously visited 5 years ago, and the menu was much better. This time it was only 'average' pub grub with a limited choice. We've had better breakfasts!
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was great with fantastic views over the Loch and Clyde. The room was quiet and big enough for a one night stay. It was also cool on what was one of the 2026 heatwave days.
The staff were friendly and very helpful. Food was good and good value for money. We travelled with our two dogs and staff were very accommodating. Would stay again.

Scotish breakfast was great, freshly cooked with good produce
Nothing everything was good
Location was great, right on the waterfront.
Rooms were extremely warm and it was very noisy outside about 7am.

L emplacement tres jolie Restaurant est bar de l hôtel pratique et terrasse vue mer Grande chambre
Salle de bain avec une faible pression d eau
A good location overlooking the Clyde and an excellent Haggis Pie for supper.
Money has clearly been spent on the public areas but the room felt rather tired and in need of some tlc.
Clean room. Good shower. Comfortable bed. Fantastic staff.
Rooms are a bit overpriced.
Prima
Vond het iets te duur voor de staat van de hotel kamer . Ontbijt miste vleeswaren kaas .
Prijs/Kwaliteit. En ontbijt was matig
The choice of beer in bar.parking facilities.
Flasks of luke warm water used for tea. Small bedroom for the price paid.
Lovely location. Friendly staff
Room could do with updating A bit worn & dirty Strange smell in the bathroom No full length mirror

Not very clean
The location was amazing. The staff were so friendly and helpful throughput our say. The rooms were beautiful and comfy beds
One side of the building where we are staying has very poor water pressure from the showers. Room 5 amazing however the lighting could be better as it is a dark room
Nothing
Place was ‘sticky’. Room was next to kitchen ventilator and noisy until 2200 hours. As it was 20 degrees C we had the window open. Shower needed none slip matt and internal hand rail.
Pleasant, helpful staff and spacious room. Good range of food and presented nicely. Good access to sockets / USB and able to heat room & warm towels. Choice of Bar and restaurant.
Shower lacked power but understand it’s older building.
Good
We were very happy with this hotel situated above a pub and located on the water . The room was very comfortable and we looked out over Gare Loch and saw a Cruise Ship in the distance on the opposite side to the hotel . We had dinner and breakfast and both were very enjoyable.
We booked back in April and we booked a Seaview room when we arrived late because of traffic around 515 we were told there was only one room left and it didn’t have a Seaview. The lady on the reception told us that it was a preference rather than guaranteed very matter of fact. A sign on the reception read upgrade to a Seaview room. I pointed at the sign and was told oh yes, they’ve all gone. The room that we were given was cramped and overlooked the generator. It was a hot room and the windows didn’t open very far.
Easy meal, which was chicken was really nice and the young man that served us was very pleasant
Goed diner.
Kamer naast de razende ventilator van de keuken was niet fijn.
Excellent location Clean Very friendly staff Good food

nothing was what I expected
twin room kepple, with a mobile refrigerator within one metre outside window going all night . On monday and Tuesday no beans available on breakfast,On Wednesday no white bread available for breakfast
The room was very comfortable and we had a lovely dinner - we choose 4 starters and a side salad and treated it like a tapas meal.
Nothing we didn't like.
Food was great - rooms clean and comfortable

The restaurant Food was fabulous and catered well for those of us with allergies Staff were helpful and polite Room decor was lovely
alles valt tegen daar
Location
It was a great place to stop over and I was able to meet up with family.
The staircase was hard to walk down when coming from bedroom.Hand rail was on short side of steps.Might be dangerous for less able person.
Clean, welcoming and food was excellent. Lovely comfy bed
Stairs are a bit of a killer but as a grade A listed building there's not much can be done
Location was nice, Bar area was acceptable. Staff were attentive. Cooked breakfast made to order was very good. See don't like for other comments.
Room was really small, The room window did not stay open had to prop it open with a can for air. Shower cubicle was tiny and the electric shower had very poor water pressure there was also a distinctive smell in the bathroom and the waste from the toilet was sent to the sewars by a very noisy macerator so using the flush would wake up the whole floor if used at night. This is the first hotel I have every stayed at the has one of these ! Back to breakfast (it was great ) Tea and Coffee were from vacuum flask that were empty , there was no bread for the toaster and no butter and no orange juice went for breakfast around 9.15 . The hotel allows dogs which is fine but at breakfast there were at least 3 dogs barking in a old stone building and the sound gets amplified , would have been good to have the restaurant to be used to segregate the dog and non dog owners.
Good choice at breakfast Car parking very good
Menu in room did not match the food available Noisy plumbing
Die Zimmer sind sauber und groß, das Frühstück ist prima. Das Bier in der dazugehörigen Bar ist auch zu empfehlen
Da gab es nichts

Very nice food, super friendly staff and all in a fantastic location Very clean Good private parking facilities
The single room was very small (but manageable) The shower was very poor and i struggled to wash properly after a hard days work. Hard to justify the cost of the room (£150 per night)
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We were travelling with our two small dogs and they were welcomed too. The food was good. The room very clean and comfortable. No view but we had lots of space and sea views are available in other rooms.
No issues to report.
Staff and location meals were great
The place is tired needs a refresh door into kitchen had a huge boot print on it
Nice hotel, connected pub and restaurant very good too. Room was spacious and bed comfy.
Shower was weak. Quite a walk into Helensburgh town.
From booking to arrival we found everything amazing. Staff are lovely and cannot do enough for you. Compliments to the chef's and staff for the excellent service . Would highly recommend this hotel.
Food was very nice.
Service was slow.
The staff were very friendly, the room was nicely decorated, well kitted out and comfortable, and the food options were good value.
The bathroom felt tired and the shower didnt work very well, the rooms were definitely not soundproof (I was woken up both mornings by an alarm in the room next door and a few times in the night with people moving about). Other than that, lovely hotel and I'd still recommend it!
Welcoming, clean and functional. Used as stop over on walk.
Really nice staff great breakfast
A good location just outside the town, with plenty of easy parking. The room was a decent size, and seemed to have been recently refurbished. Shower was good and the bathroom was in excellent condition. There was a desk which is always appreciated and plenty power outlets in sensible places.
The room was a little hot/stuffy which disturbed my sleep a little. The wifi is free and fast but has some strange filtering on it, blocking access to legitimate, perfectly innocent websites.
Location and view
Our room wasn’t ready for 2pm it was an hour later our shower was awful and made strange noises ( room 5 ) but beds were comfortable
Clean with a bit of character
Extractor fan outside bedroom window and poor water pressure in the shower
Lovely room, double bed very comfy, room part was tidy, clean and in good condition
The bathroom, the window with the vent was awful, wood rotting away, should be tiled not wood as is right near to shower so gets wet and the paint was peeling away and the wood rotting.
Location. Met expectations
Decor slightly tired
Very convenient for entertainment and lovely walks
Bathroom was mouldy and breakfast very disorganised . Room facilities lacking.
The room was fine and.clean pet friendly ideal.
The breakfast
Dog hair absolutely everywhere, even in the covers and on the pillows. Dog hair all in the bath. There was empty crisp and nuts packets in the drawer both sides of the bed. No way had this room been cleaned prior. Stayed one night so just had to brush the hairs off as much as we could but if you can avoid staying i would. Food was lovely though.
Breakfast choices were good. Evening meals good choice and standard. The location was good. Comfortable bed, view from room very pleasant across the Loch.
The room could do with a refurb and bit of TLC. Flaking paint on bathroom ceiling and bedroom window cill. Mould in the shower. Shelf over bathroom sink very loose. Toilet seat also loose.S
Great location. Food in the bar good and reasonably priced.
No one on reception. On the morning we left after ringing for assistance 3 times and walking around looking for a staff member left key card on reception desk.
Location was good! Room was clean and met expectations.
The automated voice that answers the phone isnt clear on what you are ment to do. I only seen a member of staff when I was checking in other than that I wouldnt of known anyone actually worked in the hotel.
Location
Bathroom in 1 room smelt of drains and the mattress in the other smelt bad.
Good location in the town for walking distance to shops, bars and restaurants
I was really disappointed with my stay overall, particularly when it came to cleanliness and the breakfast experience. The room itself was not up to standard at all — it was noticeably dusty, and there were hairs left on the bathroom tiles, which immediately gave the impression that it hadn’t been properly cleaned before our arrival. It’s the kind of basic detail you expect any hotel to get right, so that was quite off-putting from the start. Breakfast was equally underwhelming. There was very little available,we also had to wait an unreasonably long time for any staff to appear, which made the whole experience feel disorganised and neglected. It shouldn’t take that long just to get basic service in the morning. The only redeeming part of breakfast for me was the poached eggs, which were actually quite well done — nicely cooked and enjoyable. Unfortunately, that was the only highlight. My partner ordered potato scones, and they looked as though they had simply been thrown into a toaster rather than properly cooked or heated on a griddle. They were dry, unappetising, and clearly lacked any care in preparation. Overall, the stay felt below standard in both cleanliness and service. With more attention to detail and better staff presence, it could be improved, but as it stands, I wouldn’t rush back. One staff member moaned about people going for breakfast at 9:30am when it was on until 10am. This was very off putting
Really friendly staff, great location.
The only thing that put a dampener on our stay was the breakfast. It's laid out on a table that is too small for the number of people trying to get at it at the same time, making it frustrating trying to get toast, tea etc. There seemed not enough staff on both mornings as the food and drinks weren't replaced quickly. Again a bit frustrating.
Lovely location great food and staff
Bit dated outside could do with paint and new windows
The breakfast was good in the size of portions but the food was very bland. However we had a meal in the restaurant at night and that was delicious
The food was good and the staff friendly. It was an ideal stop off point on the way to Oban.
The only place to sit with the dog was in the bar area, which was noisy and aimed at men who enjoyed sport on the tv.
Breakfast very good and evening meals good value for money and very tasty. Staff polite, friendly and very helpful.
WiFi free and easy to access but poor reception in areas.
Bathroom was smelling unpleasant which made the stay very uncomfortable. No heating
Great location, friendly staff and great food.
