Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Family room was spacious, like a mini suite, exceptionally clean, very comfortable, quiet, light and airy. Check-in simple. Lovely snug front bar and comfy lounge bar. Excellent Sunday roast that was great value. They even let us park our motorcycles in a covered garage area at the rear of the hotel, all included in the price. Location in the centre of town allowed for an after-dinner walk about and stop off at a friendly local pub round the corner.
There was nothing to dislike. It could not have been any better and all at a reasonable price
We arrived in the middle of a very wet day so 1st impression externally were not great. But once in & dry the rooms although small were perfectly good. Good bar & excellent food.
Would have like a better selection of hot breakfast options. Having said that the full Scottish was very nice.
no food on day of stay
I had an excellent stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean, and the shower was absolutely wonderful – one of the best I've experienced in a hotel. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice, and the staff were all incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout my stay. A special mention must go to the chef, who did a fantastic job and made breakfast particularly enjoyable. Thank you to everyone for such a pleasant stay. I would definitely return in the future.
Local to golf clubs also hotel does good food
Ample parking handy off the motorway
Helpful staff, comfortable room and good breakfast. Good value for money.
Shower room, while fully functional, was past its best and could do with redecorating and renovation.
The area, we had gone to a wedding in Gretna. Ideal location. The rooms were basic but very comfortable.
Location was good for where we were going. The evening meal was excellent. We had the steak pie which was really lovely. The staff are friendly. This is the second year I have stayed and I will be back next year.
The breakfast was not as good as last years. There seemed to be less choice. The double room I was in needed a plug in the sink and also the air conditioning in the bathroom took a long time to stop after the light was switched off.
Great stay, comfortable room and bed, very close to the train station and excellent value..
The hotel looks a bit run-down from the outside, however our room had been updated to modern standards and was spotless and comfortable. The beds were comfy, the bathroom was clean and we had everything we needed for a family of 4, including TV, wifi, kettle and complimentary tea/coffee/hot chocolate and biscuits. The staff were friendly and helpful too. The location is very central and restaurants and cafes are only 1-2 minutes walk away; there is also a large Tesco a short walk away.
Opening time, should of looked harder for them
First of all the car park is a lie. They don't have one, I was told to park in a nearby nhs clinic car park. Secondly there was no receptionist. There is a sign to find someone to help in the bar which was very busy serving drinks before I was able to check in. There was no lift, the building is very old with poor infrastructure. I had a family room which was reasonably wide but very poor ventilation, terrible view from small window. Surfaces were dusty, I saw hair remnant on the floor. No tap mixer. The place was very hot without even a fan. And finally there was no network signal or a WiFi. I complained about it, they spent 30 min trying to fix it and after failure they offered me a downgrade to a single small room with no price compensation. I had to accept because I needed Internet for important online meeting.
Clean and traditional
Nothing
Perfect location…just steps away from the train station. Lovely historic property that has undergone some very nice renovations, with more to come. My room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with modern as well as traditional amenities. No iron or fridge in my room, but I didn’t miss them. There is no lift, but I received cheerful help with my bags up the stairs. Staff was warm and welcoming…if not ever present.
Friendly welcoming staff. Good breakfast
A very friendly hotel within 3 minute walk of the station, The King's Arms hotel is excellent. My room was a good size, airy and comfortable. Staff were super friendly, including finding my jacket that I accidentally lost. Hotel is in a great location. Excellent Sunday carvery.
Nothing to criticise, the only thing that could've been better is maybe a later checkout time than 10am. Didn't impact me as I was out early anyway, but for some people this may be an inconvenience.
Friendly stuff, clean and comfortable
We where at the end of our holiday
Very good value for money, helpful staff. Good food.
Really lovely! Some quirky features but modern bedrooms. Food brill, staff lovely, we would certainly recommend!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nothing.
Basic but clean and staff attentive and helpful.
Nothing
we had a large double room which was exceptionally nice and luxurious, it was spotlessly clean with beautiful decor and facilities. The bed was very comfortable we had a great nights sleep. The bathroom was superb with a beautiful bath and a fabulous shower. Food at the Kings arms is excellent, I had the full Scottish breakfast both days and it was delicious. Bar staff and waiting staff were all extremely helpful and welcoming and friendly. The bar was well stocked with interesting whisky and well kept beer.
Nothing, apart from lacking a private car park. The public one which is free to use is just along the road beside the hotel. The only other thing that was dissapointing was the fact that we were only staying for two nights. We will certainly be back.
Nothing to dislike. Staff very friendly and efficient. Food lovely
Again nothing to dislike
The room was great. Very modern and nicely decorated. Plenty of free parking in the town.
The hotel is in a good location. Plenty of free parking a short walk from the hotel. The room was a good size. The bathroom was clean with a good shower and hot water. The evening meal was excellent.
Uncomfortable bed. Dated fixtures/furnishings. One bedside light kept going off on its own. The other bedside light was tatty. The carpet in the bunkroom had recently been replaced but the other carpet was older and more worn. The plug sockets were not accessible as they were behind the bed. Room 4 is not as nice as room 11 where we stayed 10 days earlier. The double room had no door to separate it from the bunk bed room so when someone visits the bathroom at night the light shines straight into the bedroom waking everyone up. Also the bunk bed is very unstable.
Warm welcome and a good range of beers in the bar (albeit I'd have preferred to be able to have a Caley Best or other heavy type option instead of John Smiths.) The Drygate Seven Peaks was a really good IPA so I stuck to that. Daughter said the Guinness was really good and my wife loved her Malbec. Bed was really comfy and you had all you needed in the room.
Room was clean, however there was some mold in the bathhroom, which would benefit from modernisation. Also a loud nose outside all night, sounded like a turbine winding up, came in waves and disturbed our sleep. We weren't sure if it was linked to the hotel or a neighbouring building.
We stayed overnight on a cycling tour and were able to securely store the bikes in the garage. Room was clean and comfortable and breakfast very good
Personnel très accueillant, très bienveillant. Bon petit déjeuner. Chambre propre et au calme
Location
Very average. Poor bed, unable to sleep. Overpriced at £120.
We had fab modernised room.room 2 Even had a hairdryer. Unusual for a 2 star. Downstairs is old fashioned as expected. But room 2 was great. Shower was all new n clean, but water pressure wasnt great . Overall as a stop off for 1 night this was a good choice.
Only complaint was shower
Staff were friendly. I was able to extend checkout for 2 hours for £10. Use of garage to put my car. Bed sheets were clean
The room was tatty. Wallpaper scraped off the wall. lamp flashed on and off and was peeling, hole in the sink. A tiny bottle of body wash was provided but nothing else. I had a meal but it was £17 and not at all worth it. Tasteless and shrivelled vegetables. Noisy generator outside the window. Toilet dripping water once flushed. Very noisy extractor fan in the bathroom so it was impossible to leave the light on
The on-site manager was exceptionally helpful. Other staff were also nice and helpful.
More coats hangers. There were about 4 in a family room. Might have been nice to have a box of tissues. But these are very small things. By the way this request for a review went to my husband, Philip, because he booked the room. It was me who stayed at the hotel and this is my review; my husband did not stay there.
Staff friendly.
The continental breakfast was not as good as last year's.I would have liked something to put in the cereal. There was not a lot of choice. Milk should be served with tea, not have to get up from table to take milk from a large jug.
Very clean and comfortable. Room was a good size for a family of 4.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and the lady checking me in suggested I park my car inside their garage. My single room was small but very comfy and quiet, and the ensuite was modern and spacious. The two head shower was brilliant. Breakfast was superb.
Everything was very good, very clean, nice and comfortable

Breakfast was good although had to ask for more milk. Evening meal was very tasty.
Parking was a bit tricky.
Convenient, comfortable clean and friendly staff
Some of the showers in the smaller rooms could do with a refresh
Comfortable beds. Spacious room. Nicely decorated. Peaceful. Helpful and friendly staff throughout. Nicely situated. Relaxing Lounge bar. Fabulous margaritas!
Parking wasn’t quite what we imagined. A garage behind the property that was a bit dark and uninviting. That said plenty of free parking available close by.
Located in the heart of the town a couple of minutes from the station. Very comfortable bed. Great food.
Very small bathroom and old bath and shower.
Great location for an overnight stay on the way further north. Great service , warm welcome
The bathroom needed a lot of tlc, it was a little grubby and outdated
Breakfast was excellent.
Nothing of note.
Good room , good Scottish breakfask
Some common areas are a little tried.
Location
Tiny single bed in a very small room
The food was excellent.
The staff and the food was fantastic, With the heat I even wanted to help when they got swarmed one day. Staff was very considerate and professional. Loved every bit of the stay. If I could would highly recommend it if your going to lockerbie. Food fantastic and great locally sourced and the portions made me feel so stuffed and ready to tackle the day. Breakfast great and fantastic.
Did get a bit of knocks that did disturb us but was sorted out by staff immediately the only down side and this is nit picking was extractor fan in bathroom needed a bit of dusting but nothing to complain about over all. Will say depending if you in that room you can hear traffic but I have hearing damage and partner is a light sleeper but we got tired from a busy day so slept through the noise of traffic.
Liked the hotel our room large but our friends room very small and bathroom tiny shower cold.
We had previously had a meal there last year so booked to stay and was going to book meals for the 2 days unfortunately I was served moldy garlic bread the first night put us off our meals and didn't book breakfast or evening meal day after. Spoilt our stay as that is the reason we booked to have lovely meals other than that couldn't fault the rooms and staff
Good value for money
Poor management missed breakfast no one was up all locked up
Staff were friendly and we enjoyed a great breakfast. In a great position in Lockerbie
The history and atmosphere of the Kings Arms (around 400 years old!); our recently refurbished family room; excellent home cooking and very helpful staff.
Our car was temporarily blocked in within the car port at the rear, but the staff sorted it and it didn't cause any problems.
Spacious family room Tea and coffee facilities included large recently renovated clean bathroom double bed and bunk bed good black out curtains near to M74
warm- but reasonable for heat wave shower quite small corridor a bit dated
Town centre location with ample parking Room was spotlessly clean, quiet and very comfortable
Nothing
I stayed here on my way up to the Highlands with my little dog ( I am a somewhat older lady) and had a comfortable stay with excellent food. My return journey was made difficult due to extreme weather in the Highlands, but a cool room, warm welcome and good food set me back on the road home relaxed and happy.
Nothing to dislike, it’s a very old, quirky property, but my rooms were both clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was exceptional - fantastic Scottish breakfast with all the trimmings! No evening meal available on Sunday since they run a Carvery up to 6pnm but we arrived too late for that. But provided plates and cutlery so we could eat a take-away bought in town in a civilised manner in the front bar Dog friendly and a great park a few minutes from the hotel for dog walking - perfect
It is a little dated in furnishings and fittings, but to not the detriment of our overnight stop on the way north
Dog friendly.
Friendly staff
Very comfortable, fantastic staff, great food.
Parking on-site is limited, but there is a large, free public car park close to the rear of the hotel.
Emplacement
Salle de bains vieillotte : la chasse d’eau marchait très mal, le dévidoir papier toilettes était cassé. La lampe de chevet dysfonctionnait Petit lit
big family room nice and clean. a good selection of drinks and biscuits in the room with a cosy friendly bar
the view from the windows isnt very good but we didnt stop here for the view so that didnt bother us
Whole experience
Location
Nothing
Dated but charming.
You can hear people walking in room above.
Liked the welcome from staff on arrival who made no fuss after my dog pulled away from me and my yoghurt ended up all over the floor!

This was a stopover after completing the NC500. We were given the large family room. Very spacious, wonderful large bathroom and perfect shower. 100% clean. Everything we needed. Taylor was attentive and met every request with a smile and efficiency. This is a wonderful building in the heart of the town. We were pleased to use a local business. 5 minutes from the motorway. Easy to find. We had a great dinner in the evening, it tasted fresh and delicious, well done chef. I recommend the fish, salad and gammon. Chips were nice. It is really nice that the hotel is updating the meeting rooms and they look great with panelling and new velvet. Nothing tacky, the bar areas are great and comfortable. We (a diverse family of 5) booked 2 rooms. Absolutely delighted with our stopover, many thanks to everybody at the King’s Arms!
Perfect for our needs.
Tres propre, très bon accueil.
Clean & comfortable, perfect for a weary traveller needing a pit stop.
The hotel was full of old character charm. The staff were helpful and very friendly. The room was clean and comfortable and would stay again
No negatives
Could be better burnt toast, burnt eggy, presentation on plate was poor
Overhaul the breakfast was poor
Friendly pub, lovely welcoming staff, dog friendly, good food, large comfortable room. Everything we needed.
Very very minor, but lampshade needed fixing on bedroom ceiling. Just let the look of the room down.
Our arrival time was 2am but we had good communication from the hosts regarding entry to the property. Our room was a large family room with bunk-beds. Tea & coffee tray was very welcome! Our room was clean, tidy & well appointed. We managed to find on-street parking.
No comments to make.
Location
Lovely friendly helpful staff. I had a simple en suite single room which I was expecting and its was all exactly what I needed. I would return.
Position in town Grand staircase Friendly staff
A bit tired
Cosy, old fashioned hotel. Friendly staff. Comfortable room. Very conveniently 5 minutes from the motorway.
Lovely hotel. loveely staff. Room spacious and reasonably stocked.
The toilet in the en suite was a pretty tight fit. Otherwise, room was fine.
The staff were very friendly and it was spotlessly clean
The room was a bit dated and not like the pictures in the website
4 Dogs howling in room next door

Very noisy fan or boiler? Not sure what it was but it kept me awake No decaf coffee at breakfast
Based on what you’ve described, I’d suggest something balanced and fair: What did you like about the property? The hotel was comfortable and entirely satisfactory for my needs. I arrived late and left early while cycling through the area. The receptionist was very helpful and kindly allowed me to store my bicycle securely in a conference room overnight, which was much appreciated. Breakfast was excellent and far more substantial than I had expected or requested. The building itself has an attractive historic character and some interesting decorative features.
The hotel felt rather quiet and sparsely occupied during my stay, although this may simply have reflected the time of year. While the décor appears historic and suggests a long and interesting past, I would have enjoyed learning more about the building’s history. A few wall-mounted plaques or explanatory notes about the hotel and its furnishings would have added to the experience.
Bed was comfy. Cracking breakfast
Room was dated. Noisy sounded like a boiler working from the early hours
This is a nice looking traditional hotel, which has a lovely old bar area. It is close to the station, down one end of the high street, and the Scottish breakfast was plentiful and well made. It’s also very good value for money.
The only aspects that were a bit of a shame were that dinner was not available after around 8-8.30pm and the hotel bar was not open, even at around 10-10.30pm. It would have been good to experience both and the bar, although old and traditional, just looked like a really comfy place to have a nightcap or two.
The location in the town centre and only a few minutes from the motorway.
The staff were not interested in us. We arrived around 21.00 and it was clear that we were an inconvenience to them. We checked into our room, came back down 10 minutes later and found the bar closed. No sign of any staff anywhere.
Good breakfast. Had gf bread
I like everything the food the accommodation the location and it's proximity to the main travel routes
I had to go back home
Old coaching Inn with character.
We had a problem with Booking .com system but the staff were great and sorted it out.
Comfortable and cosy, with a bath not just a shower.
The hotel is a little dated and run down, Friday night, town centre with emmerdale farm and coronation street on tv in the main bar. No real atmosphere. Not the worst but not the best either.
Great location for a stop on the way further north. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food was great and the breakfast was fantastic. Very powerful shower.
Some sort of electric fan or motor was constant all night and with the window open, was audible below room 10 and disturbed our sleep. A minor gripe, but it did spoil an otherwise pleasant stay.
Food was very nice
The night hum of machinery through the night.
An old building that was well maintained and clean. In the centre of the town, with undercover parking. Fantastic meals.
Nothing.
Location, friendly staff, good food, sensible prices
Nothing
It was conveniently located not far from the A74, which we were using to travel from the west coast of Scotland back home to Derbyshire. We wanted somewhere to stay for the night to break up the journey. The bed was beautifully comfortable with great pillows, the towels were big, soft and fluffy and the shower was very good. We arrived after dinner elsewhere and had a drink in the bar, which was nicely furnished and had lovely chairs. The staff were very friendly and the bar was fairly busy but not noisy. Breakfast the following morning was good and nicely cooked.
There was very little parking at the hotel, although we managed to find a spot on the street. The generator at the back was a little noisy overnight - the windows were open as it was warm, and my husband says it kept him awake, but I slept like a log and as it is usually the other way round, I have little sympathy! The decor is not as up to date as some hotels but it was perfectly acceptable.
Easy check-in, great food (breakfast and dinner), friendly bar, clean room and fast wifi, parking garage for the bikes.
The rooms were a little small... but that's the only small negative.
Breakfast was fine.
Background noise from a fan or boiler was a bit annoying through the night. Struggled to find members of staff/or could not find staff especially when booking out.
Location Breakfast was very tasty Room we were in - honey moon suite was outstanding!! Staff were very welcoming and friendly Stayed for evening meal which was reasonable, dessert beautiful. Would recommend to friends and family.
They are noticeably updating property. We stayed in beautiful room with fantastic shower, bed, and amenities. Drinking water in glass jar at breakfast was warm would suggest ice to chill, would also suggest yogurts to be in an ice bowl as were warm at breakfast too. Glasses on tray were sticky at rim. Selected another. Could be given a different breakfast option
