Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Really spacious room, excellent bathroom, comfortable seating as well as the usual bedroom furniture. Exceptionally frienddly staff. Top notch breakfast. Spotlessly clean.
Just a bit of road noise, wouldn't be an issue for most, but I'm used to total silence at night. Still I had a comfortable night.
Great location, lovely room with a very comfortable bed!
No food in the evening which was disappointing!
Reception on arriving lacklustre. Sofa bed not made up or sheets etc immediately available. Road quite noisy. Breakfast pretty average. No evening meal option
It was lovely and peaceful. Brilliant room with loads of space and high spec bathroom/shower and furnishings. It looked as though it was recently renovated. Lovely view out over the reservoir too. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Only a tiny thing but the tap in our room took ages to get cold and even then it was luke warm. We had bottled water in the room (provided by the hotel) to drink but it was just for teeth brushing.
Room was a good size and clean. Location is good and parking easy.
We selected a hotel with a restaurant as we didn't wish to leave for dinner. On arrival we were asked by the team member if we had received their message confirming there was no food that evening - 'the Chef has been working all summer and needs some time off' - no message had been received. We went down for breakfast at 8.05am (advised breakfast from 8.00am) as the the cook was just walking in. An error was made with one of our selections meaning one breakfast was brought and eaten before the second arrived. In both case the eggs were overcooked - poached and scrambled. Generally service felt disorganised. Water in the basin in the bathroom ran hot for both hot and cold ! A shame as the location is good, rooms generally ok.
The location was good Great decor, fixtures and fittings Breakfast was good Staff very friendly and helpful
It was a bit noisy if you were in the front bedrooms. The road traffic noise was on going all night
Everywhere was clean and it looked like recently decorated. Lovely old building renovated to a very modern standard.
The attic rooms are a little tight for a 6 footer
The team were super friendly and food really good value. Room was small but well laid out and very clean. Bed comfy and bathroom well appointed
Nothing at all
Really enjoyed our night at tge Jack and Jill Beautiful room really comfortable bed hot shower, the staff were amazing food brilliant wil definitely be going back.
Nothing
The rooms were clean and spacious.
Whilst in the restaurant one of our party ordered mash as the option with their food, when the food came out we were told the chef couldn’t be bothered to make mash so you have chips instead. Then for breakfast the next morning there was a communication error again and the wrong order came out again.
Staff lovely, rooms clean very quiet on arrival. Breakfast was lovely.
No food available, was told had to pre-book evening meal, had no email stating this. Not enough tea and coffee in the room there was enough for a drink, not even enough for one in the evening and one in the morning.
Lovely one night stay and good location for where we needed to be for a wedding. Clean, comfy room and friendly staff. Good breakfast and the rates seem good value for money. Would happily stay again, thank-you
Clean , comfortable, extremely friendly staff 😊
Nothing
I can't praise the staff enough, especially the chef, they went above and beyond. Beautiful view from our room over the reservoir, food was lovely and reasonably priced and I had the best 2 nights sleep ive had in a long time.
Nothing really
Comfortable room and spacious bathroom.
Lacked atmosphere in the bar, some background music would have been nice. The young staff were inexperienced and struggled at times. More training required?? The lady serving breakfast however was superb
The food was very good, we ate in the restaurant, at a time a little earlier than what we would usually choose. That said the staff were friendly and a big shout out to chef Robbie! Breakfast was very good too.
The location was convenient and close to the beautiful coast. The beds were comfortable.
The dinner on arrival had to be ordered by 6pm and was below par in quality. The breakfast was poorly served and also below par. Staff were mostly friendly but too junior and not supervised. Parts of the bedrooms had not been properly cleaned - coffee rings on the bedside tables.
The location was very picturesque
Nothing
The property is very well presented with great of road parking.
The property is unmanned at night so could be a concern for some also a little further away from Saltburn than expected. Everything closed down at 22:00 and definitely need more staff at night
Staff were nice. Bed comfy.
Cold water no hot water to shower Very expensive food We could of all fitted into a family room as there was a double bed and a double bed sofa and we btought a travelling cot for the baby, we had to book 2 rooms so only stayed 1 night. as we couldn't afford 2 nights. 1 room wasn't ready until 3.45, 45 minutes over the time they said it would be ready. In the middle of nowhere.
The property was very clean and a nice quiet location
Nothing
The property was modern and clean
Our room was by the main doors, other guests coming to their rooms could be heard. Our room also had the fuse board which staff required access to as there was a power cut.
Bar mam who also acted as reception for the hotel as well was lovely really welcoming and helpful. Generally the pub and rooms was nicely decorated, clean and well maintained
Just one issue which I don't think could be helped... we stayed in one of the attic rooms which was reached by an additional staircase which led directly into the room (so maybe don't book this room if you have small.children) there was a small green light in the ceiling at the top of stairwell and also above the door at the bottom. Which we couldn't turn off I'm guessing its the emergency lighting so is a requirement for the room for H&S. It meant that the room was still slightly lit when all the lights off and shutters were down so for those who need a darker room (like me) to sleep maybe don't book one of the attic rooms.
Quite quirky and lovely staff
No wardrobe or drawers to put your clothes in.
The room was very modern, clean, tea and coffee facilities along with bottled water.
No hot water, 😔
The location was beautiful. Waking up & seeing the view was the perfect start to the day. We was there for my daughters wedding & the staff were perfect & made us all feel welcome
Nothing
Lovely rooms, great location. Staff were amazing, really accommodating and friendly.
Power cut off on second night of our stay. Unable to reach anybody via the emergency contact number. Left with no power after returning from wedding.
Clean and well presented with spacious rooms.
Would have preferred a buffet style breakfast.
Modern rooms
- lighting on the stairs - food evening dinner
Nothing to dislike at the Jack & Jill. We stayed for three nights in a very spacious and clean room. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfasts were a little too nice so no more cooked ones now we are home! The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. I would highly recommend the Jack & Jill for a great base to explore the north east coast.
Nothing.
The setting and surrounds were absolutely beautiful. The Inn was excellent, food amazing and staff were very accommodating. The full English breakfast was amazing, so good and filling. Excellent Wi-Fi too, very fast through starling.
Food shut off time in the evening and lack of chef…chatting to staff, this was due to a family issue/illness and genuine lack of stand in chefs available in the area.
The water from the taps was warm or hot no cold water
The attentive staff. Excellent food. Lovely clean comfortable room.
friendly staff very welcoming on arrival. Would hight recommend staying at the property to family and friends. Breakfast was lovely, dinning area was clean and also very welcoming.
Decent size room. Clean and comfortable. Very helpful friendly staff.
Food was quite poorly cooked, had to send one if our meals back. No atmosphere because it was very empty. All rooms had heavy fire doors that constantly banged shut throughout the whole of our stay. Which after a short time became very annoying.
Quiet. Met all our expectations.
Nothing to dislike
The rooms are lovely and during the hot weather the very welcome addition to the room was a fan. And the breakfast was excellent
Nothing to dislike
Value for money in a location we needed
Good breakfast - good toiletries and great views of the eclipse
Great location for touring the area. Clean and comfortable. Really good customer service. Good breakfast and roasts.
Very minor point- bedroom lighting a bit dim.
Very welcoming. Food bsolutely fantastic. Roast dinner to die for!
Staff were great
We was in the attic room(that wasn’t the problem) there was no lighting at all up the stairs, or windows they were waiting for an electrical , can you not get emergency electrician, we were there 3 days, no light, we were a big group of people , a baby & a disabled person, a few fell down steps, 1 wedged a chair 1/2 way up, for a bit of light, said I couldn’t see my room lock to put key in, was told to use my phone, night time meal for 19 people was amazing(we all had roast dinner, breakfast wasn’t too good, full breakfast swimming in grease & eggs Benedict, the muffin wasn’t toasted bread t it was rock hard, couldn’t cut it
Location and friendly
Room was depressingly dark and I stool and an uncomfortable chair. Nowhere to sit while having a coffee or do a crossword. Quilt too heavy for time of year. Heavy doors banging in corridor.
Amazing breakfast
Seems to be short staffed especially in the evenings. Waited 30 mins to get dessert only after getting the attention of the barman.
The rooms are lovely decorated and the bed was very comfortable, the location is lovely, except a busy road between the dam and the hotel
We had to look for staff to check in, it took us nearly 30.min until we finally got to the room. We didn't see the note which had a number to call, the note was behind the desk which we didn't see straight away as the desk is high. We was told the bar was open until 10pm before we arrived but when we have arrived they decided to close at 9pm which wasn't a big problem for us. There were a few cobwebs in the room and the window is covered in them from the outside. The windows are not that easy to use as they are sash windows. There was a fan in the room which was very powerfull but covered in dust. Maybe it is just me being picky
Rooms were clean and tidy
One of the rooms had a foul smell. The food we got was really disappointing. They weren’t happy about us having a travel cot even though we rang up prior and they said we could.
Very clean and comfortable. Pleasant staff. Nice breakfast.
Location, cleanliness building itself , the allocation for reception, bar,and cleaning was covered by one young , who by himself was above and beyond excellent young man well done
The lack of notification , the bar was closed at nine, the food finished at five , the breakfast sausages were very undercooked, the coffee was warm not hot , apparently all the above was a lack of staff, not acceptable.
Location is stunning staff are awesome and the hotel it's self is fantastic. Breakfast was lovely also. We go there every year for our Anniversary so holds a speacial place in our hearts.
Going home :)
Absolutely everything. Was perfect. Breakfast was awesome.
Anyone who tries to find fault with this place is just being rude as it's stunning.
Room was a nice size
Restaurant not open and nothing else around. Very little atmosphere.
Beautiful property, clean and modern throughout!
There wasn’t anything to not like about the place
Fabulous location across from the Dam. All staff really friendly and helpful particularly the chef! Food was delicious. Breakfast was served personally to your table. Room was spacious and we had Room 2 with view of Dam. Bathroom with large shower and sensible shelf for shampoo etc which so many places lack. Highly recommended and will be back!
Very very minor point - could do with hook end of shower for towel. Otherwise perfect 👌
Beautiful property. Lovely bedrooms. Delicious breakfast
No atmosphere. Totally empty bar at night. Pillows were hard. Noisy road as room on the front next to main road. No draught ales just bottled beer
The room was very clean, with everything you need. The whole place was lovely.
Nothing, it was lovely

Perfect accomodation, nice renovated place!
nothing
The family room was sufficient by way of space. We arrived 15 minutes early but we were still able to book into our room. Breakfast was good.
The family room was quite soulless, dark and dingy. The bathroom was very clinical looking and the shower tray was dirty showing the pink tinge of not being cleaned/disinfected properly.
Lovely place to stay and the staff were fantastic. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying there to anyone thinking about it.
The toilet paper was a little on the thin side
Lovely room, nice decor. Friendly staff. Well equipped room. Good parking, great location.
No view as skylights, no window. No food available as they had ran out.
Everything. Clean comfortable accommodation. Staff were exceptional and nothing was too much trouble. Sam was an absolute star.
Nothing. We could not find anything that needed to be improved.
Amazing location, very cozy place, very large room (we stayed at number 5). The staff were extremely friendly (the lady in reception / bar was sooo nice). Room very clean and comfortable, view to the lake. 5min walk to the gas station which has a small shop.
Excellent accommodation with friendly staff and all very helpful
Beautiful place lovely staff
No food available when we arrived wasn't told on booking.
Excellent breakfast
Traffic noise
Well kept internally and extremely comfortable beds. Staff excellent and good plentiful and good quality.
The outside seating area is tired.
Loved the room It was quiet and a nice temperature Staff were nice Breakfast was amazing!
Room wasn’t cleaned / made up . Big green safety light in middle of room at night when lights all off ( as a light sleeper this is not good ! ) No wardrobe or drawers !
La camera era Molto curata e molto pulita. Struttura molto “British” , arredata con gusto.
We had a lovely stay we arrived earlier than expected but our room was ready and we were shown to it ,very spacious including bathroom immaculate clean, tea coffee included, breakfast was lovely very polite and helpful staff
The room was very clean, spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The location was great. Nice and quiet. The staff were very pleasant.
The menu was very restricted. The daft beers were off and the staff seemed overwhelmed. The food that we had was very nice.
All Good
The lack of other guests
Great breakfast
Staircase was a little sleep
We have stayed before. Good location, nice relaxed feel, lovely staff, comfy beds, great breakfast, would defo stay again.
Liked everything, however the green light through the night in the room was very bright, glowing in the stairwell (room 1), however accept that this if for health and safety reasons due to the stairs. Only other thing to add is that the mini golf really should be free of charge (at least for one round) for hotel guests.
Good location. Close to reservoir. Food was good. Nice room, better if you can stay at back of hotel.
Breakfast was good but took a while to come
Room was clean, staff were friendly
No lights in room on first evening, lights had fused and no one on site to fix. No wardrobe in room. Hotel was advertised as having restaurant that did evening meals. We stayed 3 nights, kitchen closed at 4pm on 2 nights and wasn’t open at all on the last evening. Hotel was not near any other establishments to get food on an evening, should be advertised as a B&B only
Breakfast was fabulous. staff very friendly and helpful
Room was warm but they provided a fan would have been better if they had provided just a sheet too the quilt was too thick. England football game went off half way through
Lovely room..great view..fabulous breakfast..staff really helpful

The bedrooms were clean and well designed.
Checked it and was told the last dinner service was 5 PM so had to go elsewhere as this was too early. At about 10:30, there was a power cut /surge so the emergency lighting came on in the room and of course the fan stopped working. Had to open the windows wide to get some breeze and relief from the heat. But this meant we were woken up early because of the sunlight so didn’t sleep well. No power meant no TV, no drinks and getting a shower in the dark. Breakfast wasn’t too bad but everyone was talking about the power cut and talking to someone else that stayed the week before as well said he didn’t have a good visit then either as water was flooding the place. Totally tired out so had to go home early as we were too tired to complete our plans.
The breakfast was excellent, really delicious and plentiful!! Had lots of choice and had two different breakfasts each day of our stay!!👍 The area of where the “Jack and Jill Coaching Inn” is in a beautiful, picturesque spot and overlooks a beautiful lake and nearby dam.
The access to our rooms!! We were situated at the very top of the “Jack and Jill Coaching Inn” and had to walk up 31 stairs to get to our room!! If you have any difficulty with mobility issues then this can become a little challenging!! Because of the nature and age of the beautiful building (17th century) there unfortunately is not a lift for people who find the many stairs challenging.
Breakfast was amazing. Robbie is a fantastic chef and a lovely person. We had one evening meal and that was freshly cooked and so delicious.Sam who ran everywhere else was also lovely and both of them worked extremely hard and long hours. Always friendly and helpful.Lovely view over the Dam
Hit and miss with evening meals and bar due to staffing issues but Sam and Robbie let us know about this. It’s a shame as it’s losing business and it’s position is prime.Would have liked to have known how busy (24 hours) the road outside was.In the room there is a green light in the ceiling which is so bright the room is lit up all night and disturbed our sleep. Not comfortable no staff on site overnight.
The room was modern and clean and the staff on duty in the morning were friendly and helpful
We arrived to be greeted by someone doing an impression of a grumpy teenager and to be told (after an 8 hour drive and arriving just after 6pm) that the kitchen had closed at 5pm on a Friday evening! We were then told we would have to drive somewhere to get food and the bar in the so-called "Coaching Inn" would be taking last orders at 9.30. So our plans to have a relaxing meal and drink after a long drive were shattered.
Good food and very helpful staff and service.
Last orders for evening meal was 5pm so quite early, particularly for a Saturday night. There wasn't a wardrobe or drawers in the bedroom - just 3 hooks - so unsuitable for a long stay.
Just outside Whitby. Lots of original features
No evening meal
Good room and breakfast (although breakfast wasn't served until 8.15 am)
No evening meal service, which we weren't aware of until the day of our visit. you have to travel by car to get an evening meal as this is a rural location. Also wasn't aware that breakfast wouldn't be served until 8.15 am. Not a problem on this occasion, but normally would have been problematical
Managed to check us in early for a wedding

It was beautifully clean breakfast was a delight with an extra touch by the staff who were friendly and polite . A good stay was had from the both of us thank you
The room was very comfortable, the bed was super soft and everything was very clean. The staff were extremely helpful.
Breakfast was ok, the toast was just warm bread...
Breakfast was good, staff very pleasant and helpful
Bedroom very small. No wardrobes or drawers to put clothes in. Only 2 hooks in the wall, no coat hangers either. Had to go search for them. Very thick lumpy duvet … should have been binned !!! Asked for a thinner one , could not provide a replacement.
Beautiful room, good breakfast and Lovely staff
Slight traffic noise overnight from the main road outside
Opposite the resovoir good for walking
No food available after 5 pm , kids play area is old and dangerous z
First problem no evening meal available, bedroom window mechanism broken the window was either fully open or closed, dirty brown stain on bedroom ceiling ,broken bathroom extractor fan would not turn off, faulty light switch in the bedroom.having emailed the hotel and given them 24hrs to respond I have no choice but to write this review .
Attentive service by the lady who checked us in & who kept the bar open for us, after a wedding.. Comfy beds, clean
Road noise, doors banging. No food available in the evening, Pictures misleading, major rd between hotel & reservoir
Very clean and in lovely countryside right next to Scaling Dam and nature woodland.
Nothing at all. It was great.
The view was lovely.
The owners attitude was disrespectful as we were locked out through no fault of ours and had to find alternative accommodation for 1 night. The phone number given did not work. The owner eventually agreed to reimburse me however she has now blocked my number. There are no staff on duty overnight. The bar closed early. Food stopped at 5pm.
It was well located, very clean and had a very relaxing atmosphere. I had the best nights sleep!
Absolutely nothing
Food
Great breakfast, room was very clean and fresb. Staff although obviously under pressure due to staff shortages were friendly, helpful, polite and professional.
Booking procedure does not specify where in the property the rooms are or accessibility for people with mobility issues. Fortunately we were remembered by the very kind Lady (Sam) and were shown a room which was nearer reception and only one flight of stairs and she changed the one we had booked to this one. We will book direct in future.
Location, style, lovely staff, cleanliness.
No wardrobe. No hangers. Limited choice of first course at breakfast.
