All was excellent. Loved the ground floor room with Its own small patio table and chairs. Very much liked the private guest parking for our 1973 MGB
Nothing
The breakfast was very good and the location was fine
The restaurant service was poor and very slow. There were too many diners for the staff working. The bedroom lacked a fan or air conditioning. This was an issue because the windows had to be kept closed all night to prevent flies from coming into the room.
Location, easy parking, cosy bar and restaurant
Nothing really
Not much
The room was ok, but nothing to be excited about. The property is close to a noisy road and we could hear that from the room. There were only slatted blinds, so the room was not dark. Overall it was fairly average.
The hotel is on ideal location just a few minutes from Romsey and has adequate parking. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed for two nights and the dinners and breakfasts were superb, with all the food cooked to order. The hotel backs on to the River Test with a walkway leading down to it.
Good location and plenty of parking. Clean and comfortable accommodation. Good breakfast choice and food available throughout the day/evening. Welcoming and friendly staff.

Great place to stay

Couldn’t fault the place, staff, facilities, food all excellent. Access to river walk at back of site was a bonus.
Not a negative as such, just be aware of the location ie on main road and rooms linked to the pub - so it won’t be 100% quiet but didn’t detract from our stay.
Very comfortable stay. We were there with 3 other couples for 4 nights over a long weekend for family wedding in the area. Lovely pub and restaurant - excellent breakfast and dining. Overall great value.
A very nice pub and hotel in a good location. Our room was lovely and was spotlessly clean except for the toilet which had been missed and had residue of someone’s poo in the bottom and around the sides which was a shame as we would have otherwise given it full marks. We had a small outdoor sitting area where I sat and read my book in the morning whilst my husband slept which was a great touch and the pub food was delicious. Overall it was great and we would stay again.
Poo in the loo 😧
Very helpful and friendly staff.
It was a fantastic place to stay, the staff were so helpful nothing was too much trouble. Definitely going back
We didn't have the breakfast as we wanted to eat en route to tourist places. Location was fine, but could be nearer to town.
We liked to venue. However, we could smell a sewage odour occasionally, possibly from the car park area.
Toplocatie, rustig , goede maaltijd en vriendelijk personeel
Niets
Excellent breakfast. River Test close by.
A fantastic location well worth a visit not too far from the new forest, coast, or Southampton and Portsmouth and on the beautiful test valley
I found there nothing to dislike about the property
Very clean and comfy
Nothing negative
Comfortable, great value and super dog friendly.
Everything! Room was lovely and clean & spacious. We had a downstairs room and loved it. Staff were the friendliest and most accommodating people we could wish for, nothing was too much trouble. Loved the little walk along the river too!
Having to leave! Absolutely no negatives at all.
Nice comfortable place, with good food
Lovely location on the river close to Romsey town centre Fabulous evening meal Friendly staff
No aircon Freely tv with weak connection to wifi meant constant buffering, no picture, sound only Sewerage smell outdoors from STP
Staff were very good. They ran out of ice as the machine had broken and even though they were just about to close up for the evening, one of them drive to the local garage to buy a bag of ice for us.
Very hot in our room but not a lot they could do about the weather. A fan was supplied in the room but had little effect. Aircon would have been nice but obviously very costly and difficult to retrofit. Periodic smell drafted into the room. I suspect from a septic tank but again, may not have been helped by the hot weather.
The location, food and drink.
We had a disabled bathroom which wasn’t great
Tastefully renovated roadside inn in pleasant countryside (though near rather than 'on' the river Test). Comfortable and fully-equipped bedroom. Decent dinner served by friendly staff in restaurant.
Mean-spirited breakfast menu, offering a choice of hot or cold with any cross-over between the two (e.g. if you wanted cereal or yoghurt as well as an egg dish) charged extra. Given that the Duke's B&B rate is not cheap (indeed, everything here is fully priced) this feels exploitative.
The sweet welcome, the bedrooms, the beds, the place!
Dirty cups and little housekeeping stuff
I shall stay at the Duke in the future when visiting family nearby.
Nothing
Location
The smell of raw excrement from the sewage tanks directly outside our only source of fresh air, thr French doors. It’s a know problem and yet the Duke felt they could rent this room out. The French doors are less than a meter or so from the public car park as well, so highly insecure at night.
I go back everytime I am in the area so always a home from home that I am comfortable in
Sundays evening check ins do not enable you to get any food and after a drive from midday and not wishing to go out again is a shame. Even a lil smorgasboard option to pre order might be something that solves this.
Great decor, fabulous location, friendly helpful staff, lovely breakfast, nice rooms
Nothing
Very cordial and profesional staff . The property also well taken care of

The Duke is a comfortable and well equipped country pub with rooms. The location is good. With easy access to the New Forest. The food in the restaurant was very good especially the pies. Breakfast selection was good and promptly served. Staff were very accommodating and pleasant. The rooms were well equipped and nicely decorated. The bathroom had all you needed and was clean. The residents car park was separate from the normal pub car park and had designated parking for each room, which is great.
I can’t really find a fault with the property. Access to the river Test is limited via a narrow somewhat overgrown footpath. Which wasn’t clear when we booked,
The bedroom was lovely and had been decorated and furnished beautifully so that it had character, not just bland. The night was warm and they had provided a fan which was very welcome. The bathroom had a big shower so you could move comfortably. The bed was huge and very comfortable.
I thought the breakfasts were rather pricey but I suppose Hampshire is an expensive place. We arrived on a Sunday and dinner stopped being served from 5.30pm. I would have liked to try their food but I expect they needed a break! It was very busy when we arrived. We ate in another pub.
Friendly staff and service, very spacious and comfortable bed. Located right by River Test - we had a lovely early evening walk along river and visited Fishlake Meadows. Excellent evening meal - imaginative, delicious and beautifully presented. Breakfast was also of a high quality.
Would have liked choice of cereal and some extra toast and marmalade with cooked breakfast, although the boiled eggs I had were very good indeed. Tea selection in room was limited to two bags of breakfast tea, although I was very willingly supplied with herbal option, once I asked. Lighting for bathroom mirror could have been brighter.
Nice hotel in a good location, staff were all polite and helpful, room was quaint and comfortable, with a extra large bed, the whole feel to the hotel is nice and as I previously said the staff were more than willing to helpo in any way they could.
in the bathroom the sink tap sprayed out to the side due to an ill fitted aerator ring, this just needed screwing up to make it tight, same in shower the shower head was loose and just needed tightening, minor things but should have been sorted on cleaning the room. the breakfast, although nice does not need to be made to look fancy, put the beans on the plate not in a small pan you are just going to tip out, and sorry, if you put bacon please use decent back bacon and not streaky bacon.
Great stay here for 3 nights. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Evening meals were superb. Although breakfast i found disappointing, but that could be just personal choice. Room was very nicely appointed, however, the show was very small and not very powerful..
The shower and Breakfast
Location perfect for Fly Fishing on Test , rooms perfect and main pub also very good. Dinner in the evening was very good . Good choice of started and mains. Staff friendly.
The entrance and exit from. car park, double bend both ways! Nightmare getting in and out safely. Breakfast took alittle longer than expected to be served .
Beautifully presented
Bathroom too small
We had the room with disabled facilities which were really good for my partner. Food was excellent.
All good.
Great food nice atmosphere wonderful rooms.
Quite pricey but worth it
Friendly staff. Clean room. Good food
A little bit pricey
Very clean
Nothing
The location was chosen due to the fact that it was close to the wedding venue we were attending, the room (Edinburgh) was quiet & adequately spacious for a two night stay. A variety of options were available for both breakfast & evening meals, something for all tastes I’d imagine. Spacious carpark, umbrellas & wellington boots supplied on request to help with our erratic British weather was a nice touch.
This establishment is severely understaffed, whether or not as a couple we were ignored would be hard to say but, we waited upwards of 20 minutes for drinks to arrive at our table during our evening meal, twice I had to remind staff that we were going thirsty waiting, the food when it arrived was slapped down on the table in what can only be described as nonchalant haste(tired maybe), groups of diners were fussed over , couples seemed to be ignored (or was it just us)! Only 3 members of staff were on duty covering front of house Friday 5th June, covering bar/restaurant/service, so consequently our evening was not a memorable one due to all of the attached, not the fault of the staff on duty I hasten to add , they ran their legs off trying to cope working upwards of a 16 hr day. Saturday 6th was not much different, however there was a certified bartender on hand to keep the bar running smoothly whilst the 2 girls concentrated on table service. Finally, on settling the bill on departure found that we’d been charged for breakfast, apparently no way of checking original booking but,I’d swear we’d pre paid for breakfast (why wouldn’t we) at £360 for 2 nights! Lovely staff, but obviously overworked leads to potentially moody service.
The place is really nice and rooms, although small, are well thought out. Staff were superb and so friendly. Great choice of food and really dog friendly.
Not the locations fault but the footpatch beside the pub is somewhat short and overgrown!
Breakfast was well cooked both mornings - a good choice. Dinner was good too. I found the atmosphere was relaxed. The hotel gave the impression of being very well managed.
There must have been a lot going on in the area as the prices were rather high last weekend.
The bathroom ventilation was not good - damp smell after using shower which lingered even though we left the fan on all night.
Lovely old pub with great food, beside an idyllic walk along river Test
Exceptionally clean. Great staff. Fab breakfast. Beautiful hotel!
Location for a visit to Mottisfont house and gardens was perfect. The room was very comfortable. The staff were excellent . No hidden extras. Loved the area. We were welcomed and looked after well. Wi Fi was great. Restaurant food good.
The TV was dreadful. Muffled sound and poor picture quality. Also regular loss of signal. TV in the room we had needs upgrading. A great shame the T.V wasn't up to the standard of the rest.
Location staff food bed rooms
Drains kept blocking
Staying at the Duke was brilliant. A great venue with very attentive and friendly staff. The location is amazing just being on the Test, such a pretty location, very special indeed. The food was amazing too. Would highly recommend.
Lovely atmosphere beautiful decor
Nothing
Beautiful location near the river. Very dog friendly
The rooms are very dark - need more lights
Location & dog friendly
Breakfast very slow & under staffed
Love place location , comfortable bed , tasty breakfast.
Arrived 8pm to be told pub closing at 8-30pm Lighting in room is of ambient style - so quite dark & tricky . Signal poor so Tv kept buffing
Nice location & lovely staff. Had the cooked breakfast, which was huge & well cooked.
Had a problem with the temperature control on the radiator.
Great location, good value for money, comfortable. Food was amazing
Having cleaning equipment line the corridor in the morning , sheets, towels, cleaning products. Made you feel like you needed to get out the room quickly
The hotel staff were great , clearly know the value of working as a team , great respect for each other which filters through to how guests are treated . Penny who cleaned our room is a star , Nicky and the restaurant team were brilliant and Dave the chef a genius ! Well done Lewis we will be back
Excellent breakfasts and the food all round was very good. Lewis and his team were very attentive to my needs and everything was just right. The service, accomodation and location were great, I will definately stay there again.
I dont have any thing negative to say.
Clean, quiet location and very friendly staff
The doors to the rooms wobbled in the frames. Any waft of air and the door rattled. We had to push something up against the door to stop it from keeping us awake.
Location, food and drink selection, great staff
Minor issues with plumbing B
The room was lovely, linen on the bed smelled fresh and clean, cleanliness was great, all staff were friendly and helpful
Very nice clean and friendly hotel. It has a nice bar and restaurant. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Nothing really.
Comfortable room and good food - was just what we needed. Staff were very friendly and helpful and took time out from a busy meal service in the restaurant to show us to our room. Restaurant food was good, both for dinner and breakfast.
Room needed some maintenance; shower drain was blocked, draining too slowly, and the venetian blind cord had snapped, so it couldn't be opened fully. The trickle vent in the window is broken, so draughty. Smoke detector battery warning light flashing. Minor issues really - don't let that stop you!
Accommodation Peaceful Nice food Nice location
Hard to get a taxi TV had to sign in or create an account for every app. Bath and toilet got a bit blocked. Let staff know, said they would deal with it but it didn't happen whilst we were there. They were usable though.
Really friendly and helpful staff. Room was delightful
A very good breakfast, if you had the full English, the plate would be overflowing.
Nothing to dislike.
Location and tasteful decor.
Nothing
Everything about the place is amazing, the staff were just wonderful to us and the food was grand, I’m sure we’ll be back!
LOCATION, COMFORT,SERVICE AND FOOD
THEY SHOULD OF HAD PORRIDGE ON THE BREAKFAST MENU
Well presented, friendly staff and nice quiet location
The PVC door leading to the guest rooms is hard work to unlock,
Good selection, high quality product
Air conditioning or at least a fan would have been welcome
The only issue was the landing going to the upper rooms it was red hot and no air blowing through but apart from that I would highly recommend it the staff where fantastic and the food for gluten free was very good and great choice thank you all.
It was all good
Breakfasts were very good. Nearness to river walk. It being only 12 room hotel. Small patio adjoining room. Being on a ground floor.
We paid for a dog and got no facilities like a dog bed or bowl which were advertised. There was a definite sewage smell which was worse at times if the wind direction changed. On investigation it was bad where you leave the walkway to take the path to the river. Was it a Ceptic tank overflow ? Access to the nature reserve which again was advertised. No staff could help with how we could get there. We tried ourselves and found nowhere to park.
Room was cosy, clean and comfortable. Good sized bed and room for our sons travel cot. Great facilities - loved the good amount of options of streaming services to watch on tv (especially for our young child). Price very reasonable for quality. Lovely cosy pub with great food and welcoming staff. Breakfast was delicious, coffee very good. Perfect location from Paultons Park.
Nothing.
Staff were lovely, food was delicious room very comfortable
The noise. You can hear rooms next door and cleaners early in the morning
The premise was in a lovely location and suited our needs. We dined in the Restaurant and had a lovely meal, with an attentive and pleasant staff. It was a full house, which speaks well for its position with the locals.
Satisfactory all round for us. Was well sited for our attendance at an early morning funeral at the Test Valley Crematorium. The premise is right next to the River Test and has wellingtons for guests to take a wander along the banks. Plenty of parking space. Keep an eye on the opening hours for drinking and dining.
It was beautifully decorated, the rooms were a good size and couldn’t hear any noise from the restaurant/pub at all. The breakfasts and meal we had were lovely.
Nothing nit to like really all the meals were expensive they were very nice
Clean with nice staff
Seemed to be a little economical with the heat. It could have done with being a couple of degrees warmer. Having said that it was -1°C outside
Bright, clean and friendly, efficient staff
The bathroom was very cool. The bedding was suitable for Summer - not Winter.
עיצוב יפה מאוד. מתקנים חדשים. מיטות נוחות. נקי מאוד ושרות אדיב מאוד. אוכל יצירתי וטעים מאוד.
הזרם של המים במקלחת
Good food but expensive if you paid for individual items. The £15 inclusive breakfast better value but doesn't include cereals and yoghurt which all other hotels I've stayed at did.
The bathroom was not clean enough. The room was tasteful but the wallpaper joins needed attention! Comfortable bed.
The room was beautifully decorated with a large and very comfortable bed and soft luxurious carpet. It was super clean and everything looked new. The restaurant is cosy and the food is also great. Nikki, the restaurant manager was very helpful and efficient.
The food /wine was a bit pricey
