Lovely room, great location.

Great location

Dinner and breakfast were tasty and all the staff were welcoming and friendly. The Hive is very centrally located, so a few steps away from the shops and pubs - very useful when it’s raining!

The room was fairly small and the bathroom also, so there’s not much space or storage for luggage, although we only had one bag. No parking is provided so you have to use the pay and display car park round the corner, although we were able to park temporarily to unload and load luggage just outside the building.

I feel like there needs to be two completely separate ways to review this place - 1 for the accommodation side, and one for the food / hospitality side, as they are quite different. Firstly, the food is just outstanding - I cannot believe the quality of the breakfasts, the chef that worked in the evening that we had a meal there, it was like Michelin star dining. The nicest food we’ve had in a long time. 10/10 for this, and the waiter was super friendly and very good at his job. All the staff were really lovely.

The little langdale room really needs some TLC, even for a standard double. The blind is broken, so you can’t lift it up at all, the shower is cracked / leaking when you turn it on, it did at one point become so hot we couldn’t use it but then the manager did fix this for us. There’s mirror in the bathroom that should probably be wired in somewhere so the light / demister comes on, not really enough plug sockets for the room, and the shelf where you can put things on is so tilted that everything rolls off it. We loved the location but if we stayed again it would not be in this room :(

Code to our room didn't work so took about 20min to get access. No onsite parking, 10 pound paid parking few minutes walk away.

Lovely cosy property in a great location. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and well equipped, with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The location was perfect for exploring Hawkshead and the surrounding Lake District.

There wasn’t really anything we disliked about the property. Everything was as expected and we had a very enjoyable stay.

Very Clean, comfortable bed and what I love about is the bath tub and the breakfast is superb. Super enjoy staying here for only a short break. We will definitely come back :-)

Moss Eccles tarn- The bed was extremely uncomfortable and it even bruised my hips! Very hard in the middle. The room would also be incredibly hot on the very hot days, as it’s in the attic, even with a fan.

Abrupt and dismissive member of staff who refused to accommodate us for dinner. He said that they were too busy when intact half the tables were empty. We went to bed hungry.

The breakfast was delicious, and the staff were attentive and friendly. We had to ask for a lighter duvet because of the hot weather and the housekeeping were very helpful with this. In the evening the staff let us bring a tea down from the room to sit on the terrace and enjoy the evening ambience of the village.

We all noted that the beds were a little hard, as were the pillows. There were a couple of things that needed mending in the room, but these things in no way detracted from a lovely stay at PoppiRed. Perhaps the hotel could arrange a discount on the overnight parking costs.

Really disappointed with the stay. After the first night my partner and daughter were covered in bites. They reported this and spoke to house keeping. Bed sheets were changed however they woke the next morning with more bites! Although the staff reassured my partner this was not from the room, there was no other explanation. Apparently the previous occupants and next guests to stay had no issues. This rather made us feel like we had made up this issue! We hadn’t and certainly wouldn’t dream of doing so! Spoilt the time away and the next 5days contending with the bites. Offered 50% off next stay but we won’t stay again.

Adoramos a estadia, a simpatia no atendimento é excepcional. O alojamento tem um restaurante que pertence ao mesmos donos, com um ambiente e decoração digno de um magazine de decoração. O cuarto em que ficamos também era confortavel e muito limpo. O pequeno almoço foi feito no momento e estava delicioso. So não jantamos lá porque não tinham um prato muito específico que queríamos provar, mas a carta também era muito apelativa. Hawkshead nós surpreendeu pela sua pacatez e beleza, perfeito para descansar e dar belos passeios. Recomendamos este alojamento a 100%.

Lovely quirky room with exposed beams, comfortable bed, well equipped bathroom. Plenty of clean towels and storage space. Staff were very friendly and polite. Excellent breakfast was available even though I hadn’t pre booked.

No gripes, is a shame the bar / restaurant doesn't open a little later so could have a drink in peace whilst the kids upstairs. We happened to be there on one of hottest days of year and the buildings are not really meant for that, so very hot inside, but that is to be expected with the unusual weather.

The room was comfortable, clean and modern. The staff were super friendy and helpful. The breakfasts were excellent with the traditional full English but also a range of other options, including veggie and vegan. All of those we tried were very tasty and set us up perfectly for the days hiking, although those looking for an early start may find the serving times a bit late. Thoroughly recommended!!

There is no free parking in the village of Hawkshead so be prepared to pay car park fees of £9 per 24 hours

The location is ideally situated between Ambleside and Coniston and as I was reliant on public transport due to restricted mobility it was perfect. The staff at Poppi-Red were exceptional with special mention to Leon who helped make my stay very restful and a home from home. Nothing was too much trouble. The menu was more than sufficient and trying a different main on each day of my 6 day stay the food was consistently superb. The rooms were comfortable and clean. All in I have to say it was a perfect stay to relax, meet lovely people from all areas, while offering good food and drink. 100% will be back!

Das Frühstück war ganz okay. Wir waren auf der Durchreise somit war die Lage für uns ganz gut. Der kleine, alte Ortskern war ganz lieb.

Es war relativ wenig Platz für 2 Koffer. Ist aber nach etwas umstellen gegangen. Bett war für mich nicht sehr komfortabel. Der öffentlich Parkplatz ist ein paar Hundert Meter entfernt. Dies gibt aber für den ganzen Ortskern.

The staff were amazing and so helpful especially Carl The room was beautiful and the place itself was right in the middle of Hawkshead with a superb patio where we could sit, relax and watch the world go by. We had a delicious meal in the evening and the inclusive breakfast was fantastic. Will definitely return!

Room too hot to sleep upstairs with 8 month old baby no air con and fan faulty. Advised by staff to bring mattress downstairs. Ended up sleeping on sofa bed very uncomfortable.

We had 1 night stay and property was in a fantastic location right in centre of village close to all amenities. Room was comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was excellent as was the pizza.

No parking so £9 for this for 24 hours in local long stay car park, this is only around 30 seconds from property however. Our tv did not work in our room but didn’t spoil our stay.

It was very clean and decorated tastefully. Comfortable bed and excellent en-suite facilities including a bath and large shower. Plenty of hot water. A huge fan, as no air conditioning, which was excellent considering we were having a heat wave. Leon was particularly kind and helpful carrying all my bags from my car before I parked for 24 hours in the public car park which was very close. He then carried all my bags up the stairs to my room once he knew I have MS and walk with a stick. Choice of tables to eat at inside and out. Exceptional evening meal menu and service and breakfast first class with plenty of choice. Chef to be congratulated. I would highly recommend this Hotel.

No ground floor rooms or lift which meant climbing lots of stairs. No car park attached, however, public car park very close as mentioned above. Fortunately the staff went above and beyond to make my stay as easy as possible. One small disappointment considering the quality of the hotel, no conditioner for my hair when I had a shower.

TVは、実質的に殆ど見れなかった。スタッフに調整をお願いしても1チャンネルぐらいしか、、。 初め、部屋から出る時のドアの開け方にとても手間取った。 部屋の広さに比してベッドが大きすぎて、椅子がなく座ったり荷物を広げるスペースが無い。 シャンプーのボトルが空になったため追加をお願いしていたら、ボトルを処分してしまったからと食卓で牛乳をいれるような上の空いた陶器に中身を入れて持ってきた。その様な陶器はシャワー室の上の方に置いても落ちたら危ないし、かと言って下に置くと当然水がかかって使い物にならなくなる。想像力や常識の欠如を感じました。自分でペットボトルに入れ替えました。

Everything is just close to perfection... with a special touch be it the house itself, the rooms, the personnel. This is my best experience in the UK in my 2 weeks holidays in the North. Recommand it !

The hotel is located in a beautiful square in quaint Hawkshead. We loved eating in the restaurant or having a drink after a long walk sitting outside overlooking the square. The food was lovely, the proprietor and staff are very friendly and warm and the room was great. We would definitely recommend!

The property needs a good clean! The carpets and sofa are filthy. On arrival the check in email or text didn’t have any room info provided but the lovely lad behind the counter helped us.

The property is right in the heart of the village of Hawkshead and only a short walk from the main public car park. The rooms are small but well equipped with ensuite shower room. Breakfast offers a choice of cooked dishes featuring local produce. The staff work hard to make the stay comfortable and enjoyable.

Not a fan of Kelloggs breakfast cereals.

I have stayed at Poppy Red before and have always had a lovely stay. Its location is brilliant for local walks.

There were no curtains, only venetian blinds. This meant that the room was light from 4am, which led to interrupted sleep.

This was a lovely stay. We had a safe place indoors to store and charge our bikes. The room was pretty with a comfortable bed and nice linens. We did not have dinner there but we did get the included breakfast. The rhubarb French toast with clotted cream was the most delicious French toast I’ve ever had in my life. My husband’s breakfast sandwich was also wonderful. The inn is right in the center of town and next to the church, and we wandered around for hours. The staff were efficient and pleasant. Don’t forget to stop and the honor box cake stand across the street on your way out. Mmmm. It was one of our more memorable stays in England.
