Everything was good
The room verey very low wooden beams with no protection or singnes
The location & the food was great.
The bed moved away from the wall & you would lose your pillows in the night. We found shards of glass on the carpet.

Small room
Lovely location, nice friendly hotel and staff Excellent food
No food available for coeliac
Great location in centre of village. Large rooms. Comfortable beds. Some noise from the pub downstairs -to be expected. Friendly staff. Right opposite a Co-op if need some basic food/drink/supplies.
Only really 4 car parks, so one night had to leave car elsewhere. But not a big problem.
Breakfast was very good and location was in heart of village
Quirky 15th century inn so expect oddities. However shower cubicle was very small. The whole place needs decorating and windows were kept open by stones
Location, friendly, comfy bed, good breakfast, pleasant evening meal, dog friendly
Lack of parking, window wouldn’t stay open, very hot in the room , quite expensive
Lovely cosy property in a great location. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and well equipped, with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The location was perfect for exploring Hawkshead and the surrounding Lake District.
There wasn’t really anything we disliked about the property. Everything was as expected and we had a very enjoyable stay.
Good
Had to ask for teaspoons 2 day no toitetries i room had tobuy ,kettle not switch off, no shelf in shower to put shampoo
Good location , nice staff
It was very central to the village. The staff were lovely.
The bedroom wasn’t fit for the purpose of an en-suite. Washbasin in bedroom, toilet and shower like a cupboard! Nowhere to put anything. Loose mirror perched on old fireplace mantelpiece. Nearly fell on me! TV at awkward angle , couldn’t watch it. Steps down into bedroom quite daunting.
The top bar staff were very friendly and helpful a pleasure to be a guest staying there with them.
It needs a clean in the outside terrace area for sure. The bar and the hall areas need a refurb and repaint quickly. Breakfast 8.30 to 9.15. I arrived in the room at 8.26 and tried to get a percolated coffee but it was still filtering through. This was no issue I just got a tea. However the waitress saw me attempting to get a coffee and said I make that to be ready at 8.30. Clearly a jibe was 4 minutes early. Guests don’t like that type of comment. I was happy to sit with a cup of tea for 4 minutes chatting to other guests and just relaxing.
Location says it all. Centre of village. Comfy beds Excellent food
Sloping floor in bedroom. Verry steep stairs to our room
Location Staff Clean rooms Breakfast
No negatives
nice pub great breakfast
room was quite small with small standard double bed. weather was rather warm , height of summer, uncomfortably warm for sleeping, only to be expected in an old traditional pub
Location in a charming little village, friendly staff.
Loud from the pub until late. Small and worn rooms. No parking was available when you got there. Generally not worth the money.
Perfect clean and well looked after.
Nothing
Great location
The accommodation is in need of a refresh. Firstly the room. The carpets generally were stained and old, especially on the stairs, the knobs on the stair bannisters were sticky, dirty and the paint worn away. The lock on the inside of our door was loose. There are exposed wires in the ceiling light fitting. All the gray paint work was chipped and scuffed. The walls were scuffed. The curtains had marks on them. The sealant around the sink tiles and the shower door needs replacing. The toilet roll holder fell off the wall. There seemed to be a new headboard and bedside lamps but otherwise the room was very sad and tired. Also as we were above the kitchen the loud extractor fan came on a 8 in the morning which was disturbing and in the evening went off a 20:15. Service- when we asked for the room to be serviced the bath towels were replaced but the hand towels and the shower mat had been taken away and not replaced . The tea cups had not been washed/ replaced, the bin had not been emptied. The toilet rolls had not been replenished. Breakfast- although the food at breakfast was good the service on the Wednesday and Thursday mornings was poor. When we came down at 8:30 for breakfast there was no coffee, we had to ask for it, there were not enough cups, guests had to ask for them and the tables were not set, a family had to wait while one was set for them. When the first pot of coffee ran out, it was not topped up, the waitress must have walked past it 6 or 7 times and did not notice. ( on Tuesday and Friday mornings there was a different waitress and everything was much better).
Just a brief overnight stay with the dog. Lovely room, clean, tidy, comfy bed and pillows. Window seat with tea & coffee making facilities. Superb. Thank you.
Nothing to dislike, it was perfect for one night stay.
Nothing
Wasn’t 4 stars at all. Carpets was mucky. Smelt of a kitchen most of the time. Didn’t look like photos at all. Just all round unpleasant stay.
Very friendly staff and surprisingly quiet for a room above a busy pub.
The shower was a little too cramped, though not too bad given the constraints of a period property. The biggest annoyance was the poorly made bed. The sheet did not reach the top of the bed, leaving the head area exposed including the clear traces of a previous occupant. It is annoying to arrive at a hotel and then have to strip and remake the bed before being able to relax.
Nothing
My child has wheat and dairy allergies, I specifically booked this b and b as it said on your website site it can accommodate these allergies. I also rang the b and b to inform them of my child’s requirements as it is a worry for us and was told they can accommodate and if they can’t I am able to bring my own food for my child, so I brought pasta and sauce. To get to the b and b and go down for tea to be told they do t have anything available me for my child and that they won’t cook the pasta I was told I could bring (as a back up) I then asked to speak to the chef and he came out extremely patronising and loud, eventually he did boil a pan of water for the pasta but. Or without a fight. We were also told they didn’t read the book g correctly and only seen 2 adults and not my 2 children too so the room wasn’t ready. When we got the room the kids bunk bed was in what I would call a walk in wardrobe, no windows or anything, room full of flies and the pub/hotel had a horrid smell to it. We felt most I wanted and due to how uncomfortable we felt after the meal saga, we had no other option but to book a different hotel
Location
Staff did not clean or tidy the room or replace coffee tea over our three night stay.
Really lovely staff and the food was amazing. Rooms are clean and good value for money. Quirky little village, where we purchased local honey and took our children to the chocolate factory.
Nothing. Great stay!
Welcoming. Room was great Food was really good Staff were friendly
Hawkshead is a quaint English town near lake Windermere in the Lake district. Red Lion Inn is actually Red Lion Pub. So, it is a good place to visit. The roads are winding and scenic.
Not used to staying overnight in a pub. The room was in the attic with sloping roofs and floors. Climbing up the stairs was challenging.
Location was nice.
Severe slope in Bedroom and Bathroom.
Very welcoming and the breakfast was brilliant
Not the properties fault but room very warm and could hardly open the window, we even had a fan
Room too hot
Great location. Terrific staff. Good food.
Expensive, but that’s the Lakes in peak season.
great friendly staff
I liked everything
Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Decent shower.
Not the pubs fault but I had noisy neighbours until around 1am.
Excellent location..lovely food. Staff great ..brilliant atmosphere
Nothing
Central position in the village
The bedroom was tiny, not even room for a chair to sit on. The hotel was a bit “tired” internally and may benefit from redecoration and new carpets
Excellent central location. Great breakfast and lovely staff.
Location and breakfast excellent. Lots of character
Bit hot and had to have a trailing lead at knee height in room 6 to get power to kettle - dangerous.
The food the staff and the olde world charm

A lovely cosy pub. Very tasty breakfast Nice staff Comfy bed Quiet location
The rooms are quite tired
Lovely pub and value for money rooms in great location in Hawkshead. Headed off for a walk at Tarn Hows and back to the village later for a meal and drinks.
Nothing
The location was perfect. The pizzas 10/10
Great location and friendly staff
Stairs up to room
Food superb, including breakfast. The staff were so helpful and friendly - we had just returned from a day hike and were exhausted, we asked for a table for dinner but could see they were very busy, a lovely blonde lady on the team of waiting staff jumped in to help us and saved us a table whilst we showered. I'm sorry I didn't catch your name, but we are super grateful!
Bed quite small and not hugely comfortable. There was also a mild drainage smell from the shower room. The pub was quite noisy as the quiz was on until quite late, it wasn't a problem for us really but maybe for some people expecting a quieter time.
Hawkshead is a great village from which to explore the Windermere area and this was good value vs the high prices in the surrounding area. Good breakfast too, served quickly.
Parking options in the village are very limited if the places at the pub are all occupied.
So central and very friendly staff.
Nothing.
Location was fabulous. Food was amazing 🤩
Previous reviews were not reflective of the room we’re in. It was dark and in desperate need of refurbishment. The shower was dirty and the toilet seat had seen better days, the sink was in the bedroom (which was fine) but the taps just spun and didn’t want to work properly.
Hospitality and location
No issues
The staff were lovely plus great location .
Nothing jumps out
great location, excellent breakfast, good busy fun pub in the evening.
Very friendly and helpful
The location is perfect! Right in the centre of Hawkshead. The food was VERY good, staff were friendly and the room was spacious with a comfy bed.
We really liked the property- Just a little thing, there was no handwashing/soap in the bathroom for after using the loo. We adapted and used body wash! 😆
Great stay and excellent location
Staff. Location. Pub & food. Pub and bedroom had lots of Olde Worlde character.
Shower very cramped. Toilet seat needs replacing (white with black stains). Shower extractor fan didn't work. Sink is in the bedroom rather than bathroom.
Location is brilliant for walks on scenic routes. Breakfast was very nice with ample servings, as were the evening meals. Staff were very helpful and not overbearing. The room was clean and made up nearly every day.
On arrival was told the mirror in room 1 was broken and was to be fitted by someone during my stay. That did'nt happen so had to buy mirror from chemist for shaving. The fire alarm went off one day at 6.30am and rushed downstairs to be told it was a false alarm, but there was no resident manifest check on names or procedures to gather in the car park. Bit of a relaxed attitude when there could have been a real fire !
Great food

Location,, staff and food was great
Bathroom small
Very friendly and well located
Bed rather on the small side
The location and character of the Inn were excellent. The room provided was comfortable and a good size. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food and drinks provided were of good quality.
No breakfast was available before 8.30 The flat rate charge for breakfast made some lighter options an expensive choice. Perhaps a continental breakfast could be included in the room rate with something like a £10 surcharge being asked for full cooked breakfasts or equivalent. The staff at breakfast seemed quite inexperienced and struggled to ensure such basics as cold milk were kept topped up without guests requesting assistance.
Wonderful service from very lovely people. They helped fix my room after it was incorrectly booked and were so friendly about. Also the BEST kitchen ever. I wasn't expecting to eat the most delicious vegan pizza of my life!! Highly recommend.
Very friendly staff, good location, good quality breakfast and restaurant menu
Limited parking
Friendly and attentive staff. Lovely food. Comfortable bed. Location fantastic. So lovely with our dog Daisy.
It’s f ing brilliant the Latvia lasses who run it are the nuts nuts
Bugger all
It ticks all the right boxes, location, parking, Great friendly customer service, comfy clean rooms offering good selection of drinks & food for both breakfast & lunch/evening meals.
Don’t enter the car park round the back of the property, through the tunnel passageway. Instead drive through the no entry at side of the property for parking. I scratched my car attempting to access (my fault) but the no entry should be the other way round.
Lovely village, decent breakfast
Dirty small attic room, needed a really good clean, dirty tea tray, 3 coat hangers so didn’t unpack our cases, bathroom dirty and very bad musty smell, mould on shower door glass, dirt and stains on headboard overall very poor and overpriced
Really handy for the village
Good food, comfortable bed
Nothing
Food & staff were exceptional
Recommendation only, 2nd coffee machine would help breakfast run smoother
Brilliant price and location.
The room felt a little grubby and the shower was boiling hot and couldn’t be turned down.
Location within Hawkeshead, very clean bedroom & bathroom Staff very friendly
I didn’t appreciate it was the locals pub so slightly intimidating when I arrived but it was bank holiday weekend so it was always going to be busier.
Fantastic place to stay, location is brilliant for hiking areas and is a lovely little village. The staff were very helpful and accommodating throughout. Great room with comfortable bed and clean facilities. The pub/restaurant is a great atmosphere too and we had an amazing Sunday roast dinner. Highly recommend staying here and will definitely return when hiking in the Lakes again :)
