Grazie!

Hot water available at a request (my family of 4 people could take a nice hot shower). The heating (aircon with heating function) was working very well. We were in January, where temperature at night was only 2-3 degrees and we still could sleep in a warm tent. Beds were comfortable and duvets were big and warm and bed linen were clean. The food prepared by camp was delicious - great Berber omlette and Tagine. The camp itself is well arranged and pleasant. It is one of the closest to the dunes, maybe 15-20 minutes and you are close to the bigest dunes (we were walking alone there). If you need to rent a quad (which we did), Ali can help with everything. Overall a very nice stay! Dariusz (Poland) and a family.

Reviewed Dec 26, 2025Very good location close to the Dunes, heated tent and comfortable bed.
Staff weren’t very helpful or hospitable, the inside of the tent didn’t live up to the claimed “luxury” standard, especially as the attached bathroom was partly open in a family tent for 4 and there were no curtain or door to separate it. The food served on Xmas night was not great and the service was poor.
The tent was furnished very well, it was super cute and the bed was comfortable. The view from the windows was beautiful and the camp itself was presented very nicely. The staff were lovely and very kind. The breakfast was very nice as a whole.
We specifically booked this camp because it was advertised as having air con/heating. This is shown in the pictures and under facilities with no extra cost being mentioned. We were told that it did not work at night because it works off the solar power, but then we were told we could have it on if we paid 30EUR?? The tent was freezing and very uncomfortable and it felt very dishonest to advertise as having heating then demand more money for it/lie about it not working.
Be aware the transfer to the camp is not included either and is €20 each, unless you choose to pick a camel ride at €30 each. We chose the camel thinking we would be taken right into the big dunes for sunset. We were not, instead being taken a short distance from the camp by a young boy, to an early full of vegetation and chewed up with quad tracks and footprints, not the picturesque impressive dunes you see online. The camp is actually quite far away from the dunes. For €60 I felt this was very poor value for money and I wish we had both bothered with the camels and just walked into the dunes ourselves.
The whole area felt like a bit of a tourist trap and the experience didn't really live up to our expectations unfortunately.

Reviewed Nov 24, 2025Location was very good. If you want a remote location away from other camps, this is it. We were the only guests at the camp, so even more quiet. Both breakfast and dinner were good and there were some variety. Tent was nicely decorated, and bed was really comfortable. Very nice view of the dunes from the windows. After dinner berber music was great and we learned to play also. Transportation is included in price. In the night stargazing is a must.
We chose the camp because it said there would be heating. One night was really cold so we asked for it, but staff said it doesn't work and offered us an extra blanket. It didn't help much, as it was cold inside the tent. Also warm water was something you had to ask for separately.
We also took the 4x4 halfday tour. It was quite expensive and in my opinion, not worth the money. It was a rainy day, so some of the sights didn't happen. Also a bit of language barrier, so not that much information about things. Also questions asked were not fully understood.

Desayuno y cena buenos, normales. Nada para criticar.
La atención un 10, son muy amables y predispuestos.

Our transfer was included in the price, the camp is away from Merzouga we passed many camps on the way, thankfully this location there is only one camp visible in the distance. Very remote location with stunning views of the dunes which are a few minutes walk away. The night sky was incredible.
We were taken into the dunes to sandboard in the evening which was so much fun and a great photo opportunity. The evening meal and breakfast was delicious. In the morning we chose to pay for a camel tour setting off at 5am to watch the sunset - this is a must!!
We were blown away by the value for money here. We had low expectations after reading blogs about how staying in the desert had been tainted by over tourism but in fact this is one of the best travel experiences we have had to date!
Not a negative just to note - There was a mix up about requiring a vegetarian meal so the cook prepared me an alternative meal which was really appreciated. If you have dietary needs make sure to mention it on what's app chat after booking rather than in the booking notes.

Reviewed May 12, 2025Don't be confused by other camp locations on Booking's map, there are no camps allowed in the sand dunes anymore. You can either stay in Merzouga (good for sunrise photos) or on the eastern side of the dunes (for sunset). What makes Amskou special:
- relatively quiet due to its location away from the camps further south and their pesky quads
- only 10 tents, large und super comfortable
- great food
- easygoing staff
- mercifully short evening music entertainment
- 4x4 transfer included
We had a camel ride to get into the dunes before sunset (30 mins one way), some guests accompanied the trek on foot. Sunset on a 150m high dune is spectacular. We even got up early to walk there again for sunrise.

NO heating at night! We heard ridiculous explanations – the heating wasn’t working, they claimed it was due to a lack of fuel in the generator, or that it was too loud and someone complained, so they turned it off. We were traveling with a small 7-month-old baby, but that didn’t matter to them at all. Moreover, the owner refused to speak with us on the phone, was rude, and hung up. We got our money back through Booking. The Sahara tour was in a very, very old car that barely worked. Not worth the price. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Reviewed Jan 18, 2025Very nice camp. We got a tent with very beautiful view to dunes.
Clear communications. When we try to book hotel
In dunes we found a lot of comments of extra charges for transportation, etc. There was everything clear. If you want to go with camels you have to pay extra, if you want to go directly to the camp - they pick you up for free. Dinner and breakfast was good. We expected evening with local Berber music and with real fire outside, but it was winter time, so music was in the main tent with gas heater, but we really liked it.
Camp is not in a dunes. You have to walk 7-10 minutes to reach them but after half an hour you can be in really high dunes.
You can find twice cheaper camps without air conditioners, this one is with (it’s necessary in winter time). And we thought that in this high price it will be included. But in information sent to us after booking, we found out that conditioner cost extra 30€ per night.
Big thanks for the owner that he didn’t take money from us (maybe that we have been with children), but keep that in mind.
Heating starts after a dinner and stops about 5 a.m.

All things considered (I.e. staying in the desert), it was a lovely stay! But for improvements - breakfast was on the slimmer side, we wish there had been a bit more food out in quantity and variety. Reviewed Jul 21, 2024We went in July ( very hot, low season), so we had the entire camp for ourselves.
It’s a small camp and feels that even full is not crowded.
The tents are very comfortable , tastefully decorated ( as the entire camp is), and the food and staff were great . A special word of appraisal for Ibrahim , who took care of us during the entire stay and was our private guide! We took all the suggested activities and were great. ( camel ride at arrival. 4x4 tour and quad ride in the dunes)
We stayed in the tent more close to the restaurant area and the noise of the generator at night was very loud. ( bring your ear plugs)
Please notice air conditioning is centrally controlled and was only available at night after dinner (from 22:00 until 4:00/5:00 am… but you are in the desert, so heat is always part of the equation :)
These are only remarks .. we would stay here again happily and recommend it without shadow of doubt.

Reviewed Jul 13, 2024We took a camel ride to reach the camp - and really enjoyed it! The dinner was really good and the brakfast next morning too. Late in the evening we were surpised by a musical performance at a campfire - an experience that brough up my memories from the childhood when I had been spending summer holidays at a scout camps.
Next morning I was called to pay for a bottle of water I asked for at the arrival. Furthermore, I was interrogated as a supect for drinking another bottle of water without paying for it. I felt really uncomfortable for a while.
The rooms themselves were quite comfortable and clean - the bathroom was very spacious and clean and the beds were plush and comfortable. The camp itself is beautiful especially at sundown and sunrise, and the dunes nearby are equally beautiful. The music session by the staff is charming and fun to listen to.
When we arrived to the meeting point, the Amskou driver arrived to take us from the meeting point to the campsite over 45 minutes late. Once we reached the camp, we were told that we were unable to be booked onto camel tours or ATV rides because we needed to have booked those activities ahead of time as per the “message we were sent via email”. The message in question just listed the available activities and prices but didn’t indicate that you needed to book them before hand, which was certainly confusing. After paying the driver extra to take us back to the ATV point, we were eventually able to get booked onto a sunset ATV ride, which was spectacular. The stress and communication issues of getting to that point could have been avoided with a clearer message and better communication of booking requirements. Finally, we were told first that the Air Conditioning on our room would “only work after sunset”. Then, when the AC still didn’t work after sunset, we asked Ali if he could help us fix the AC and he said “the AC was newly installed and won’t work tonight”. This left us with no AC in a warm room - which was disappointing considering the room was advertised as having an AC.
EDIT: As requested by Amskou's response, I have attached a picture that shows that my reservation was meant to include Air Conditioning. It is clearly listed as being included, but we were told in person first that the AC only turns on after sundown and then, after sundown, that the AC unit was simply not functional altogether.

Reviewed May 29, 2024The room was beautiful. The tent is very spacious and comfortable. We opted for the camel trip to the camp. It was amazing! The dunes are absolutely gorgeous. Be aware: the camp is very far into the desert. Pro: you are very secluded and not surrounded by other camps. Con: the camel ride took 2hours.
We know we booked a stay in a luxury camp, but we would have loved for the experience to be a bit more authentic. The food for example was tasty (and a lot: four courses!), but quite European. Which is a pitty. We would have preferred a traditional tajine or something similar. But overall no complaints!

Reviewed May 27, 2024We spent two nights at the camp which we would definitely recommend. It’s a unique experience and spending two nights was totally worth it. Communication before / during our stay and transport from the meeting point in Merzouga to the camp worked very well (parking was also provided next to a hotel in Merzouga), staff was friendly and the camp and tents were very nice. Judging from passing by some other camps on the way, this one is on the smaller side which we liked a lot. Also, it’s further away from others so you really get to enjoy the quiet of the desert and see the stars at night. The tents are very comfy and spacious and everything seemed very clean and well maintained. Food was good. The fireside and live music at night were great. Also very much enjoyed the camel ride to the sunset.
Apart from the camp itself, what made our stay an even more special experience were the tours offered by the camp. We did the day tour with the local guide Ibrahim and would totally recommend it. He takes you to the black desert, an oasis, searching for fossils, listening to local music, try berber pizza, and many more amazing things. Ibrahim was a great guide, very friendly, explained a lot, and overall was very helpful (definitely 10/10 if we provided a review just for the tour and him :)).

Reviewed May 27, 2024We arrived at a specific place in the desert, from where transport was arranged to the camp. We were received very well by Mr.Ilias, the caretaker as well as Mr.Ali, the owner of the camp. The stay was very clean and comfortable. Mr.Ilias went out of his way to ensure that our stay was comfortable, and that we received sumptuous vegetarian food. We had booked a day long tour of the desert, fossils, and mines-Mr.Ali accompanied us on the tour and gave us a lot of relevant information along the entire tour. Thereafter, we did the camel ride to watch the sunset in the dunes. It was magical. Everything was organised through the camp. It was easy and convenient. Their services were very professional and there was no hidden costs. They went out of their way to ensure our stay was convenient. The ambience at night along with music around the campfire was a fantastic experience. After our stay at the desert, we had to travel to Marrakech, and Mr.Ali was very prompt in arranging transport for the same at an affordable price (cheaper than the ones we checked online). Overall, I would highly recommend this campsite if you are looking for a unique experience.

Reviewed May 15, 2024The most amazing camp seemingly far away from all others on the edge of the fine sand dunes. We were met by our pre booked camels for a sunset walk through the dunes and taken to our camp. Our evening meal was amazing, fine food at its best!
All staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Following our meal we enjoyed music and dancing around the camp fire, listening to and playing some Berber beats. The tent was simple yet luxurious and finely decorated throughout. Beds and duvets incredibly warm and comfy and ensuite bathroom exceeded all expectations for a desert camping facility.
Ali was incredibly understanding when I arrived without any cash for camels ( be warned the only cash point facility in town regularly runs out of cash at the weekends apparently) and helped me sort this out in the pick up hotel.
Many thanks to Ali, Nourddine and all the team.
Loved it all !

Reviewed Apr 20, 2024Overall experience
There was no activity after sunset
The tents were nice and clean. The dinner was really delicious. The camp was far away from other camps which we liked and the dunes were just a 15 mins walk away. Pick up was punctual.
We booked a 4x4 private tour with Ali after another couple recommended it to us. The tour was supposed to be a 5 hour tour, but Ali left after about 2 hours already. He left us with a driver who barely spoke any English. After about 3 hours into the tour, it already ended with the last part just driving on the main road instead of through the dunes.
During the tour, Ali was on his phone all the time. When we asked questions, we had to repeat ourselves because he didn't pay attention. The sights we went to were nice, but the tour was very overpriced for the quality. Afterwards, we told Ali how we felt about the tour, and he got very defensive. I would not recommend this tour.
We enjoyed our stay in this camp! Staff was excellent 👌
The camp is a bit outside the dunes, you have to walk 20 minutes to reach dunes.

Reviewed Mar 28, 2024The property is very well decorated, maintained and the rooms are super comfortable.
The location is good as well. Near to the dunes.
Food is great and the service is friendly.
It’s was an excellent deal - cost x benefit.
Nnourddine was our host and he is a very good person. Thank you!
I would like to have more information about activities and what to do around.
We paid for the desert tour with the 4x4 car and I think it was overpriced for what do you get.

Reviewed Mar 16, 2024The place seemed magical, with no one around and a great view on the dunes. Walking distance to the first dunes was approx 15min. The food was truly amazing, rooms super clean, very friendly staff. Local owner, small business, everything is there to make the visitors happy

Reviewed Mar 13, 2024What an experience!!! The food, the bedding, the facilities and indeed the service. Such genuine kindness from all the staff and indeed Mr Ali! I have traveled all over the world, but must admit that these two days have been one of the best I have vacationed anywhere in the world! Take a chance on Amskou Camp and I guarantee you will absolutely love it!

Reviewed Mar 7, 2024We spent two nights at Amskou Camp and WOW!!! Ali was beyond kind and accommodating. We arrived without having booked any activities, and he made sure that we did everything that we wanted - private tour in a 4x4, quad tour in the dunes, sunset camel riding. The camp is separated from the others in the area, which adds to the overall majesty of the experience, and the food for breakfast and dinner was fresh and filling.
The tent itself was amazing with very comfortable beds and the hottest water that we’ve experienced thus far in Morocco.
Can’t wait to come back soon 🤩

Reviewed Mar 5, 2024Unbelievable value. Very difficult to differentiate between other camps but Amskou has the major upsides of being apart from other camps and having non-camel transfers included. Aside from that, the food is excellent (and lots of it), camp decor is done with taste and it was extremely comfortable. Highly recommended!

Reviewed Mar 2, 2024Host is owner of that Camp. You can expert high level of service. Great people. Warm welcome. Breakfast and dinner. Drums. Nice conversations. Clean and beautiful tents. We spent two nights with one and three year old children. It was great experience with perfect conditions of the Camp. There are No hidden costs like in many other camps i.e. For transfer to the Camp. I lost my phone in dunes and host took me there by car and we have found it.
The location is superb, the food delicious, the music and fire wondefful. it is a smaller camp away from the other ones giving a great sahara sand dune experience. Ali and his staff were great. Stay at least 2 nights to get the full experience.

Reviewed Mar 1, 2024Don’t even look for another camp. Stay here.
Ali, the owner, is an incredible personality and his whole team is so attentive.
You have to book the trip with Ali to do the tour through the dessert, you will learn so much and get to see amazing sights you would never see otherwise.
Ali also doesn’t rip you off with the transfer or food. Many of the other camps will charge additionally to bring you to the desert camps. If you book a night with him everything is included.
We enjoyed our stay a lot.
The tents are beautiful and spacious.
