Reviewed Jul 18, 2026Very well priced for a family room, plenty of beds/rooms so great for a family travel. Facilities are a little tired and squeaky and noise travels BUT Moeraki is beautiful, it is walking distance to the tavern and it has plenty of space and great views - we would totally stay again, much cheaper than staying in Dunedin and if you have kids with you Moeraki offers plenty of outdoor adventures and if you time it right *baby animals*.
Stairs were a bit steep but fine for our kids aged 11 and 13, floors are a bit squeaky but the convenience, price and location as well as very accommodating friendly staff more than make up for this, plus the kids had a room each while the adults enjoyed the lounge and bed downstairs so everyone had their own space.

Reviewed Jul 12, 2026This is a great place to stay. Its location is fabulous - right near the beach - and barely five minutes walk to the tavern or a little longer to the point. It's a wonderful place to take some time out, but it also offers lots of interesting walks, such as to the Moeraki Boulders or to Katiki Point Lighthouse to see the seals. Everyone seems to love the Moeraki Boulders because they are so unusual.
The motel units aren't modern and that might be a negative for some. However, that is balanced by them being comfortable, spacious and having such a great location.

The internal stairs are quite steep and narrow so difficult to negotiate with luggage and all the more so if you were elderly .

If you are not that mobile this is 2 levels with bedrooms upstairs.

Carpet on the stairs needs repair. Wouldn’t want an older person to use the stairs as they are narrow.

We had a late arrival and the staff was so accommodating and great communicators. We got up in time to see the sunrise over the boulders. A highlight of our trip from the states.

Everything was easy from booking, to finding the place to communication about finding the key. We really appreciated having a heat pump so we could cool the room down at night. I liked being able to walk to the pub for dinner.
The stairs were creaky and the bed was firmer than we are used to - although not uncomfortable.

A suggestion - an extra mirror in the bathroom above the sink would be a big help & a drip tray in the kitchen to help for dishes washing up time.
