The toilet is a bit small so use the en-suite one.

Reviewed Aug 4, 2026We had a wonderful one-night stay at Jack's Place as a halfway stop on our road trip from Invercargill to Christchurch with my five-year-old daughter. We both loved it—Mia even wanted to stay for a few more nights! The cottage is warm, cosy, beautifully equipped, and has lovely ocean views that make it a very relaxing place to unwind. The nearby tavern serves great food and offers genuinely warm hospitality, which made the stay even more enjoyable. I'd highly recommend spending a couple of nights at Jack's Place if you have the time. It's a fantastic stopover and the perfect place to break up the journey between Invercargill and Christchurch.

Top bunk made for us, instead of me having to make it haha. Always great to go away and have that kind of thing done for you instead of having to do it yourself but nothing major. We would definitely still come stay :)

The kids loved having the beach so close by and lots of walks within close driving distance. We would definitely stay again. Thanks

Reviewed Mar 28, 2026I arrived later than I had hoped, just at sunset, and the location is just magical. One can look straight over the beach (with the famous boulders), and in the fading light, it did look rather nice. The property was much larger than anticipated and very easy to find. There are two large bedrooms, a very large lounge/kitchen and two bathrooms. I was alone, but I will definitely try to book again with my husband for a mini break. Everything was just perfect, in particular the location. Sadly, my plan of taking some nice night photos with the milkyway and the boulders did not eventuate as sea-fog was moving in but that did not matter. I still enjoyed my short one night stay.

Reviewed Jan 19, 2026It's been a while since my last visit but Jack's Place never disappoints. Heat pump was on when I arrived which made it so homely and cozy. Location is perfect, short walk to the pub which serves amazing food. Even on a not so good day the view is amazing. Cannot wait to return again.

The washing machine was outside and towels a bit thread bare. Pan in the oven was crusty. Only other issue the neighbours were clearly smoking cannabis so couldn’t have windows open smell was rife. Not a reflection on accommodation though.

Reviewed Jan 14, 2026We were instantly impressed upon pulling into the drive. The cabin has a warm cosy feel whilst still being spacious. You can tell the owners have put alot of time and effort into making the cabin presentable. It has a central location with the seaside being a short walk downhill and close to the village as well. The stay was very enjoyable and we hope to visit again soon.

Reviewed Sep 18, 2025This little cottage has absolutely everything you might need - really well-equipped kitchen, clean and cosy spaces, and so much sun that the house feels naturally warm - and there is a heat pump in case you need it. It's a short walk down to the Tavern or you can sit at home with panoramic views from the living room of the ocean. A wonderful spot, and we definitely want to go again - for longer.
