Lovely old building but needing attention in some places. Nice breakfast and lovely host. We were his last guests as he is retiring and moving out.
Room was nice. Good location.
Nothing
The host was very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely big room and a great breakfast. The accommodation is in the centre, a short walk to local pubs for food, drinks and shops.
Really well located and a friendly, helpful host.
It was lovely, a few minor repairs and some paint needed.
Hotel was clean staff was lovely
Breakfast basic
Location was great, good breakfast and room.
My booking for june 14th has been cancelled so I had to find somewhere else to stay.
The host Geoff was super friendly and accommodating. Free off-street parking--although it's a tight squeeze! Two buildings down from the Herriot Museum and walking distance to several restaurants. Cozy building with character.
Cleanliness was not up to standard, which unfortunately tanks what would otherwise be a good review. Specifics: My third-floor room smelled musty and didn't look like it was vacuumed after the last guest. Areas under beds/against walls were caked in dust, and at one point a large spider scuttled out from beneath my bed. Teapot had mildew inside. Placemats at breakfast had stains.
The location was really good parking available bed was clean comfortable breakfast was good
Shower ok floor boads creaked terrible when going to bathroom Also when walking on the floor.Other than that good value
A perfect location and a great host. We’ve stayed here before and Geoff has always looked after us very well.
Old fashioned property whit modern bathroom. The room was bright and spacious, cozy space with an excellent breakfast.
Everything was perfect, absolutely nothing to dislike.
Location was excellent to enjoy all the facilities that Thirsk has to offer and a good base. The hotel is very local to the racecourse. Room was comfortable and facilities were good. Breakfast was great.
There is a warning in the bathroom, but the shower is not very powerful.
The location was perfect for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. The hotel itself is old and charming and very well maintained.
Not that you can do anything about it, but the car park entrance is very narrow so my car beeped at me the whole time I was driving thru it! It's obviously the entrance to the original stable yard. But I would like to have a little maid service of just making the beds and replacing used glasses or teas.
Lovely place to stay. Host was so kind and helpful. Parking available too. Breakfast was lovely.
The host was friendly and welcoming, he cooked delicious breakfasts. He was very informative about where to eat, and what to see in the area. The accommodation was lovely & the beds were so comfortable.
The entrance to the car park at the back of the hotel was narrow and was part of the building, which I know can’t be changed. But to drive in, you have to position the car just right or risk damage to the car.
Excellent food and the location was great in walking distance of the shops and amenities.
Central location
The B&B needs a thorough clean thoroughout. Dirty carpets in room, mould in shower unit. Everything felt grubby to touch. Breakfast was average, didn't taste like local produce was sauced, doesn’t bare thinking of the cleanliness where breakfasted was prepared !!
Wonderful host, beautiful hotel, rooms lovely and the breakfast’s are delicious, made with local produce.
Nothing
The owner lovely and friendly
Old room, dirty shower, seemed a little unclean
The location was excellent for town and the racecourse and had its own parking. The host Geoff was very welcoming.
Breakfast was lovely and fresh but served at 8.30am was a little early for us after a day at the races.
Excellent location...made you welcome..good breakfast and room very good ..definitely go back again
The customer service was very good. Geoff was a very nice man, very welcoming and gave us lots of advice on where to go in Thirsk. The value for money was also good as breakfast and parking was included. We did not have the cooked breakfast and the options for the 'continental' breakfast were limited but adequate. The location was very good. The hotel itself has a quirky, old timey charm that does give it character though in some areas it feels outdated. Some areas do need refurbishment including furnishings being worn to the point they no longer feel properly clean. A full refresh would help it reach its potential and we would certainly return if this happened.
We just loved our stay. The house is wonderful with lots of fascinating artefacts around, making it feel homely from the get go. Our room was clean and smelled so lovely. The bedding was spotless and crisp and white. The beds were extremely comfortable and the pillows were great. The breakfast was delicious and served on piping hot plates. There was ample tea or coffee and you could help yourselves to cereals and toast. Our host was very helpful and non-intrusive. We could come and go as we pleased. A classical bed and breakfast with a lovely, homely feel.
Having to leave to come home...
Location was good. Very pretty area. Park by river.
Milk at breakfast was going off so had to ask for more milk. Another couple had the same experience.Breakfast was very small portions
Nice room and breakfast
Nothing
Exceptional.warm and inviting.
Wider entrance to get the car in. But that is impossible to fix.
Lovely old fashioned bed and breakfast. Very welcoming host. Comfortable room. Comfortable bed. Quiet. Excellent location. Quality breakfast. Would go again xxxxx
We absolutely loved the location, only a few steps from the James Herriot display, the reason we visited Thirsk. The hotel is a part of the history and the decor is very suites. The breakfast was superbly cooked by the owner,Geof who was so friendly, welcoming and full of great stories about the area
There was nothing that we would complain about
The location, the price and the breakfast.
Nothing of note
Good old fashioned hospitality, breakfast and location. Pet free,w
Breakfast location host
Room 10 shower not to good
Only stayed for one night but loved the central location, free on-site parking and the welcome from Geoffrey who was very helpful and friendly. Nice quiet room, lovely breakfast. Shops, pubs, restaurants and James Heriot museum on the doorstep! Recommended.
Nothing!

Getting bullied out of bed by The Gruffalo
A great host, great location
The sausage supplier needs changing
Breakfast was nice
Bathroom had mould in every corner vast amount of thick dust clearly see behind the radiator, shower head had green crust on the holes
The room was lovely so clean. The owner Jeff was so welcoming and friendly. The cooked breakfast my husband had was perfect. Kirkpatrick interior is so rustic with various artifacts throughout the house. This made the stay so interesting.
Not a thing it was lovely
Clean and comfortable. Host was friendly and helpful. Parking at the hotel was a great help. We were visiting All Creatures Great and Small museum, which was a couple of doors away and the centre of Thirsk was just a short walk away.
Host was very friendly, helpful and informative. Room spacious and had all facilities we needed. Parking onsite was a bonus and the guest house os well situated close to the town Square.
Met by owner on arrival, very friendly.Room large and warm, comfy bed, breakfast very good. Great location two minutes walk to town.
Geoff the owner was fabulous, he took the time to explain Thirsk to us and the best places to eat and see.
The shower wasn't the best.
Lovely and clean. Great value for money.
The owner Geoff was a lovely friendly man. Location was good. Room was lovely. Spotless.
Had trouble flushing the toilet. But it seemed to sort it's self out.
Room was large very clean and bed was comfortable. The owner Geoff was excellent very helpful and accommodating
Maybe the shower could have been more up to date
The place was in need of a refurbishment old, dated, bed was a bit a springy although bedding was clean. The room was in need of fresh decor etc the owner was a cheerful helpful man
Did not like the old fashioned furniture and even had a loofer in bathroom ahh. Bathroom paper was torn
Traditional property friendly owner. Breakfast was very good. Slept well. Very good location.
Nothing
Jeffrey the owner was a perfect host and made you feel welcome. The rooms were very comfortable and big, little bit tied in places but still very comfortable and lovely big rooms. The heating was on to make sure that nobody got cold.
The only thing I could say was that there wasn’t a buy there and that there wasn’t a restaurant for evening meals you could have breakfast which was lovely but you couldn’t have evening meals. But in saying that it is literally a storm throw away to all the bars and all the restaurants that you need so it wasn’t a bad thing really.
Parking, location, comfortable beds
Poor shower, parking access very narrow, relatively early departure was non-negotiable.
Comfortable bed with firm pillows
up to date tourist Information
Room was warm
General decor tired and slightly grubby
Excellent example of a B&B from James Heriot era. Rooms were of good size and well apportioned. The bed was comfortable.
For older couples, the stairs might be a bit much. There were seats on each of the landings. Bathrooms were dated, but it goes with the atmosphere of an authentic B&B.
The owner was so friendly and helpful in providing recommendations for us in the town and was really flexible around our check in and check out. The breakfast was tremendous.
Everything met our expectations.
Amazing breakfast, locally sourced produce of a good quality, perfect location to town centre, excellent value for money! Hot water bottles in the room an excellent touch!
Friendly host. Safe secure parking in private space. Clean moved room and en suite. Good breakfast, freshly cooked.
The boiler had broken but the host had put oil heaters in our room so it was very cosy.
Hotel was very central and not far from our party venue. Staff were lovely. Food was very good. Its a really nice hotel and would go back again as long as room was a bit cooler.
The room was exceptionally hot we opened window and had to ask for a fan but we still cooked for the 2 nights we were there. Bedding could have been better, was an off yellow colour, guess we are used to having white bedding in any other hotels we've stayed in.
Excellent location good breakfast
Unfortunately the boiler was broken so no heating Geoff had put us a oil filled radiator in our room so not to bad hope you got it fixed on Monday when the plumber was coming
Excellent
How fitting the hotel was to the area. Very relaxed atmosphere. Geoff is a great host.
Lovely proprietor, very accommodating with our breakfast requirements. The breakfast was excellent. Bed comfortable.
Decor could do with some tlc, nothing drastically wrong.
Excellent breakfast, Geoff was very helpful and welcoming.
Breakfast was very good quality ingredients and servicing hot
Could not find fault with any
The bed was clean and comfortable breakfast was very nice
The hotel was dated paper and grouting in the bathroom needs attention carpet needs a clean in the bedroom but for a place to sleep as a base was ok
Good location, convenient for town. Friendly and helpful proprietor. Well cooked breakfast. Historic building, ample off road parking.
Nothing.
Breakfast was lovely, well greeted and excellent hospitality.
The weather.
The owner was utterly accommodating helpful and generous
No public sitting room
Friendly staff good breakfast (though lack of choice)
decor tired, plumbing issues
Breakfast was super, the host went out of his way to be flexible
Can't think of anything
Lovely, quaint and charming. Very clean, lovely breakfast. Geoff was a very attentive host. Central location
Bathroom could do with a little updating but then possibly take away the charming aspect of the house. Very narrow entrance to the car park
When we arrived, the owner Geoffrey was there to meet us and show us to our room. This was filled with an extremely large and very comfortable bed. The breakfast was excellent cooked to order with local produce. A great way to start the day! Th location could not have been better. It was next door to the James Herriot museum and within easy access of the shops and restaurants in beautiful Thirsk. I would thoroughly recommend this accommodation.
Second visit and can not fault a thing
Nothing not to like
Originally a family townhouse
TV audio a bit tinny
Good value, great location and good host
comfortable bed. good.breakfast the room needed a deep clean. the room was freezing cold.the dining room was really cold.granted the weather was very cold too. but the heating was not on. £100 seems poor value. we didn't use the shower it was too cold.
Great location in Thirsk with parking and good English breakfast. Facilities clean. Host very welcoming.
Very helpful,great breakfast.
