Lovely updated room at the back near the hotel's parking. Beautiful decor and comfortable beds. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff
Instructions on booking of how to get to the rear car-park
Lovely receptionist, delightful room, and good breakfast.
Wifi reception in my room (The Annex) was patchy.
Bar area, traditional features
Rome needs to have decor touched up, paint peeling off, bathroom shower cubicle replacing, re-siliconed etc
Breakfast service was a little slow. Room was fine and was kept well by housekeeping.
Comfortable clean I also liked classical Fm radio that we played in the morning. The restaurant service was great
Loverly area to stay
Very expensive for the time we stayed
Location
Rooms require renovation, cleanliness not upto standard.
Great location in the heart of Thirsk
Poorly run - staff shouting in kitchen - worse than when we last stayed two years ago
THE food was uneatable in the dining room at dinner time.wesent it back to the kitchen they replaced the food no better we gave it to the dog.
Breakfast really good - wide ranging selection hot and cold food - rooms good size bed comfortable. staff were all polite and helpful. good service at breakfast
bathroom a little dated - stairs carpet marked
Clean, welcoming and friendly
Location Staff Room was small but so comfortable
Nothing
Central location. Traditional building with nicely appointed rooms. Excellent breakfast.
Parking can be a problem.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Room was a little unclean, crumbs on carpet and bits under the cups. Window was rattling in the frame as the breeze moved against it.
Room, general hotel facilities, prime location, breakfast
Nothing
Room was nice and large and bed was very comfortable and big,the bathroom was Nic with everything you needed in it
The reception staff were not very friendly and didn’t explain the door to get in late at night night porter had to let us in.Room was dusty as was the bathroom, carpet still had bits on it,attention to detail had been missed
Breakfast was good the only thing is they said everything was cooked fresh but on asking for pancakes they said they had run out how can you run out of eggs milk and floor so in my opinion they don’t cook fresh if it’s not bought in then they run out?
The hotel is nice but tired needs redecoration
Location Breakfast
Noise of dogs in room near us Had to complain about undercooked food Bathroom lights did not work
Room was lovely, staff super helpful and friendly and the lady running the hotel knew everything about everywhere!! And they accommodated allergies brilliently
Car parking
We stayed in the luxury rooms which we presume had been the stables in the past. Absolutely lovely and modern rooms beautifully decorated adjacent to the rear car park (which get instructions to find)! We all loved the two nights excellent with a good choice of breakfast and the public rooms very nicely appointed with a good bar. Evening meals looked good too! We loved the position of the hotel right on the market square and with plenty of shops etc. We were also impressed with the staff who were all pleasant and welcoming especially Isabel in the dining room nothing was too much trouble ( 8 of us in total with one invalid). Attending a wedding the following day 4mins away but would definately stay again for a holiday break.
Nothing
Lovely property.
Staff in the restaurant weren’t great. There was nobody there yet still had to wait quite a while to be served, left with dirty plates in front of us and had to get up to pay the bill, no sign of service. Then left the music blaring until the early hours of the morning. Couldn’t sleep.
Clean, great location, loved the history of the place. Staff were curious and helpful.
Wish we could have stayed longer
Room was lovely and spacious, the nespresso machine in the room was a nice touch. The fan definitely helped with our sleep. The staff were welcoming to our dog which helped us settle.
Breakfast took a long time to come (possibly even 45 minutes) and was a bit cold but we were told there was only one chef so this was okay with us - the pastries weren’t refilled on the breakfast buffet in this time which we could have snacked on whilst we waited (although we had toast which was fine). I think this could have been a bit frustrating if we had plans in the morning to rush off to which is why its the only nitpicky thing I’d point out.
Lovely hotel
Nothing
Location is great, central Thirsk. Lovely Georgian style facia. Decent hotel bar. Restaurant was good. Took a little too long to clear finished crockery. Rooms in the news were canny, clean but a little cramped. Toilet and small hand basin were nearly on top of each other. Good shower. Good comfy bed but duvet could be lighter Tog for summer. Over powering during the night. Overall, would I stay again? Yes I probably would.

Beautiful setting
Nothing all good
Brilliant staff and very accommodating
When the crowd from the races were in it was rather busy
Comfy beds lovely room tasty breakfast friendly staff top location so simply a most wonderful stay
No lift and steep stairs to our top floor room number 12
The location and character of the building.
The space in the rooms was very tight and wasn't very clean. Rooms needed TLC and needed a good clean top to bottom. But the main parts of the room you expected to be clean were like bedding, shower/bath and sink. Just needed a deep clean and some parts were tired and needed replacing.
The hotel was great for location , the staff were very nice , the room was very nice and comfortable , nice bed and bathroom
The breakfast wasn’t very nice at all , the bacon was burnt in part , sausage was not very nice at all rubbery in fact , the poached eggs were hard , more like hard boiled than poached , the mushroom wasn’t very nice neither was the black pudding . My wife had the veggie option which she said it was not the best and the spinach just tasted like salt . The fresh fruit selection was very poor and looked unappealing and there wasn’t any yogurt . Very poor , we paid £16 each . Wished I’d of gone next door to Greggs to be honest . We did mention these things to the man on the desk when we checked out , he wasn’t interested and he said that’s surprising we usually get compliments for our breakfast . Very poor indeed.
Great staff. Very helpful and friendly
Overpriced. You are paying for the location.
Absolutely superb... room fantastic very comfortable..staff 10/10 was brilliant will be back next year.

Lovely room with 3 windows. Big and very comfortable bed
Central location. Well decorated. Helpful pleasant staff.
All good.
The food and the room
Situation was good
Small room for the cost, both outside door and room door do not automatically close, outside door more often than not left open.
Great location
Stairs to our room and no lift
Location and excellent rooms.
It was a bit warm in the Rooms but I get we are in summer time so not really unexpected.
The room was what I was hoping for when staying with a toddler . Off the main stair well and quite enough not to disturb their sleep . I also thought the electric fan was a welcome bonus , especially during the warm nights which could have been very uncomfortable without
Stayed here before and always enjoyed it and rated it highly. High Street location and property character cannot be beaten. This time however we were given a room in the Mews area and this was the problem
Room in the Mews area was absolutely tiny - just enough room to walk around the bed, and the bathroom was also very cramped. No fridge. No air con - just a cheap fan that didn’t even oscillate. View of the car park watching the local children doing wheelies on their bikes in between the parked cars - not great. Basically spent the night in a sweat box. I love this hotel but would not stay in a news room again.
The Golden Fleece is a very good hotel rooms food staff top class
Location
Nothing to dislike
Lovely clean comfortable room
Breakfast was not incuded
Location is excellent
Could have been cleaner, room small for price
location made aware of its history friendliness of staff
Due to age of property. has no lift which in the heat wave was a bit of a struggle with luggage to third floor.
The hotel is situated on the town square so access to shops, restaurants, etc is easy. Parking behind the hotel is convenient. Breakfast was very good.
The hotel chares premium rates but doesn't provide air conditioning or a room fridge. This was important as our room was on the top floor and the temperature reached 30°C during our stay. A desk-top fan was provided but this made little impact on cooling the room down.
Cleanliness and good staff
Uncomfortable during hot summer. Could not sleep at all. There was no AC. Only a little fan. Very expensive for a basic B&B. The room needs renovation. There was a rotten smell in the bathroom. Very old furnishings.
This was a lovely looking place right in the heart of Thirsk. The downstairs part of the hotel is nicely appointed. The evening meal was of a good standard and three was a wide range of drinks on offer. Our room was beautifully decorated and the bathroom was generally good with an excellent shower. Plenty of parking around the back.
The room, although nice, was rather small, double yes, but small in my opinion. The room was one of the 'mews' rooms and it looked out over the carpark. Not the best but most looked as though that was the view. Uncertain if I had booked a 'budget double'? The sink in the bathroom was ridiculously small for a bathroom, it was the sort you'd find in a downstairs toilet! I was headbutting the mirror whenever I cleaned my teeth over the sink! After returning from a long walk I'd head for the shower at around 4pm, unfortunately on both days there was no hot water due to boiler problems! Within a short while it was back on though.
Room was well equipped with a huge, very comfortable bed, large bathroom and good quality shower gel, shampoo, etc. There were also tea & coffee making facilities (Nespresso pod machine & kettle) and supplied biscuits replaced daily. The staff were friendly and efficient, with the room being serviced daily and bottles of water included in the price. The property is located right on the market square with easy access to the many and varied restaurants nearby and local shops. Car parking to the rear of the property was free and reasonably plentiful. Access to and from major routes is also easy.
Nothing major, perhaps a little pricey, but the staff and facilities were first class.
Parking good. Room was good. Overall very happy.

It was lovely and central
The cobbles when wet and on a motorbike
Breakfasts were good. Room comfortable..
The climb to the second floor bedroom was tiring.
Cozy comfortable clean secure and excellent location staff

Lovely hotel right in the market place which is perfect. Helpful friendly staff.
Breakfast was a bit hectic, asked for some honey which I never got. The cooked breakfasts were very good though.
Free car parking but small bays. Very nice hotel decor and comfortable, most of the staff attentive and nice Tv good and room decor good.
Room was small, no nets on the windows so needed the curtains closed to stop people being able to see you as the windowsills are low. Mews room 20, very warm and super thick quilt so unable to have it on all night. Bathroom was difficult to use, nice size shower but ridiculous small sink that made you bang your head of the mirror when you attempted to, Lean over the sink to clean your teeth. Also you needed to wedge yourself between the sink and toilet in order to sit on the toilet. Had a light lunch at around 2.30, only one member of staff serving and she was ’running’ around trying to serve three people at a time Had a light lunch at around 2.30, only one member of staff serving and she was ’running’ around trying to serve three people at a time
Lovely clean hotel in the centre of Thirsk, ample parking at the rear of the hotel
Having to wait to get served at the bar for a coffee and cake, I felt that the staff that were serving weren't very welcoming and didn't acknowledge the fact that I was there and having to wait for 10 minutes without being served. I ended up walking out and went elsewhere for a coffee!
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely. Bedding and pillows good quality.
Expensive drinks. The building doesn’t have a lift which is difficult when carrying luggage up three floors.
Excellent stay wonderful venue the staff each and every one of them were so nice
Was in Room 26 and woke up to the sound of bottles being tipped maybe bin men collecting all the empties
Location was good
Small room and overated for money ,fan broken in room,it was so hot no sleep, bathroom fan stayed on for ages, noisy, parking is a lottery
Clean and nicely decorated
The room was quite hot due to the warm weather. The hotel did supply an air fan which helped.
Central location. Parking at rear
The room was a little on the small side which with the heatwave felt a bit claustrophobic.. Radiator in bathroom wouldn't turn off.
Nice, large, quiet room.
We were three floors up windy stairwells, so we couldn’t bring our suitcases up. And it was in the upper 90s and this hotel has no air conditioning. They gave us a small fan, but it was stifling.
Great location as we were meeting friends and the breakfast was very good. Staff excellent
WE wthought we had booked a suite in the main hotel building but were in a much smaller annex looking over a parking lot.
Location. Free parking. Extras.
Room was quite small for a double although en suite was very big!
The hotel is in the center of a busy market town
The rooms a little cramped and stuffy
Nice boutique style hotel right in Thirsk town square. Staff were great and very helpful. The hotel was modern and nicely styled. The food was good quality and very nice.
However a little disappointed that the first choices of starter and main they didn't have. It was a quiet night so I would have thought they would have the whole menu. The rooms were clean and designed nicely, but could maybe do with fresh paint as looking a little tired.
This hotel is in an ideal location in the middle of the market square. There is parking available at the back of the property. We had a warm welcome from the staff when we arrived. We didn't realise that there was no lift and so we had to carry our suitcases up 2 flights of stairs to get to our room. The room itself was very spacious and airy with a large bed and ensuite facilities. Breakfasts were lovely and the evening meal we had was also very good. Traditional food, very well presented.
There was no lift but in all fairness that was probably pointed out to us on the itinery. The room was very spacious but the shower cubicle was probably the smallest I've seen in a hotel in the UK.
The room and nice touches
Reception, bar and restaurant service was the worst in recent recollection. A letter of complaint setting out the issues is with the MD of the parent company.
Everything
Nothing
Staff were very polite, helpful and efficient. Room was comfortable and well stocked. The addition of a ceiling fan was a bonus.
Awful wifi, missed the England match on Thursday.
Perfect location , friendly staff , lovely food and a lovely room.
Everything was good 👌
Good , simple hotel. Decent breakfast, friendly staff but nothing over the top.
The cleaning! The toilet has hairs when we came. We stayed two nights and the cleaning on the second day was barely doing the bed. Towels not arranged, toilet not tidied or a bit cleaned.
We had a lovely room in the mews. Comfy bed, great en-suite with quality toiletries.
Food in the restaurant wasn’t cooked properly so had to wait for a different meal to be cooked whilst I watched my husband eat. They don’t charge for that meal which was good. Our room was overlooking the car park so was quite noisy especially when the glass bin was emptied at 7am in the morning! (Not much the hotel can do about that)
breakfast was fantastic. Rom lovely. Bathroom a little dated. Location perfect. Staff lovely, parking at the rear. had a bath! rare these days - and I used it!
nothing to do with the hotel but finding real ale in the town was harder than we thought.
Good breakfast menu
Having to ask where the room was when we checked in - not being told by the receptionist and the limited vegetarian menu
Excellent location for a short stay in Thirsk
Good standard of facilities in the room although got to admit it was a pretty small room.
A welcome return to a very comfortable hotel. Parking is available - can be busy but generally find a gap. Room neat and cosy - good bed and pillows. Compact bathroom with good shower and particularly pleasant, fragrant toiletries. Food both dinner and breakfast is good. Hotel faces directly onto the market place so very easy to visit the town too.
Staff were super, car parking a bonus, food was very nice indeed.
Cleaner hoovering around you ar breakfast, the noise was not acceptable....
Location ,food
In need of some TLC Not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties, many stairs
Room is great (in the Mews) and all very new and clean. The breakfast was also amazing and cooked fresh to order. Also great to have FREE on-site parking!
Comfortable room, everything we needed and more. Great location in the centre with own carpark.
-
Comfortable rooms. Very friendly and helpful staff. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious.
Everything was fine for us
All staff both friendly and helpful, despite being busy Food excellent
Ideal location. Parking fantastic and staff wonderful. Breakfast was fantastic. The room was very clean.
Old style property with character, different areas to sit in, excellent location, friendly staff. Loved my room overlooking the square. The toiletries were nice and plentiful.
Not a deal breaker but the cold breakfast offerings were on the underwhelming side.
Location to the race course
Location
Steep stairs and small double bed.
Great location
The room was lovely and clean. Bathroom was big. Staff were friendly. Good location
Would maybe have liked a small fridge in room.
Staff were friendly and the rec option rooms were pleasant.
The room was up 4 flights of stairs we have heart problems and I have osteoarthritis in my knees it was absolutely a nightmare getting to the room.also the shower was over the bath another problem for me.I thought I booked a twin bedded room but could not find the original booking.
Staff were very friendly. We stayed in the renovated mews rooms. These were beautifully decorated and spacious for two. there was ample parking onsite.
The room overlooked the car park, which meant passers by who use the car park as a short cut and people sitting in the outside area could see directly into our room. It was one of the rare very hot days/nights and we were unable to open the curtains unless fully dressed which restricted any airflow and reduced lighting for hair and makeup purposes.
Lovely building great location and good parking
Nothing
Location to the center and private parking
Lots of steps to climb to room
First time in Thirsk fantastic accommodation and a brilliant place to visit
It was well equipped with coffee and tea facilities, iron and ironing board, hairdryer etc. it’s in a convenient location and nicely decorated.
The mattress was very hard so sleep was uncomfortable. I think it was overpriced as the room was very small, only enough room to walk around the bed.
Great location was saving grace.
Courtyard room was extremely small and not easy to access. The £16 breakfast for continental or full English was extremely disappointing and vastly overpriced for both options.
