Reviewed Sep 14, 2026Hotel stuff were nice, you get like this appenzell pass that gives you some free stuff (cable cars to hike etc..) breakfast was minimal but sufficient, food was fresh and tasty. We hike schafler ridge and the hotel is very close, so if youre planning in hiking nearby its worth it.

It was at the end of old town on a corner, so there was a bit of traffic noise, but closing the window when we wanted quiet solved that. World definitely stay here again!

Reviewed Sep 2, 2026Location was excellent. They provided a fan without us having to ask, which was much appreciated. One of the windows was not hung correctly, but was fixed immediately when asked. The room was extremely small and the evening lights were right in our window. But they did have light blocking curtain curtains.
The lights outside our windows were bright, and we had to use the dark light blocking curtains, whereas we would’ve liked to have just open windows since it was so warm.

Reviewed Sep 1, 2026Die Lage des Hotels ist ausgezeichnet, am Anfang der Fussgängerzone. Restaurants und Läden sind zu Fuss alle gut zu erreichen. Unsere Fahrräder konnten wir in einer abgeschlossenen Velogarage unterbringen. Die Betten sind bequem und das Badezimmer modern und schön renoviert. Alles war sauber und das Personal sehr freundliche. Auch am Frühstück gab es nichts auszusetzen.

Reviewed Aug 30, 2026The perfect location at one end of the main street and within a short walking distance of the railway station. Everything on the doorstep: shops, bars and restaurants. Clean and comfortable accommodation and a delicious breakfast. Dined a couple of times in the restaurant and again, the food was delicious. Extremely friendly staff who were very efficient and most helpful when giving recommendations for travel within the area.
The heatwave, which the hotel could do nothing about but at least a fan was provided in the room which made a huge difference.

The staff was amazing and checked in on us often. Exceptional breakfast! Staff made sure that everything was full and available for our family. Great assortment of cheese, fruit, eggs, and meats! Treated us like family.

Reviewed Aug 2, 2026The location of the hotel was excellent. The hotel has a few parking places but is also close to the public parking which was reasonably priced. The staff were incredibly helpful and polite. The breakfast was excellent and we were fortunate to sit close to the open door so there was a breeze in the morning. The hotel also provided alternative milk and vegan yogurts.
The rooms are very basic for the price that is charged. There was a fan in the room for which we were very grateful given the extremely hot weather. It was a problem to sleep with open windows as the church bells were very loud and disturbed our sleep hence the room became very stuffy. There is no refrigerator in the room or tea/coffee making facilities which is surprising given the high room charges.

The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help, making our stay very enjoyable. The hotel's location is excellent, situated at the entrance to the traditional village and right next to the river, creating a peaceful and beautiful atmosphere. There is also a wonderful restaurant and café just a short walk from the village entrance. Breakfast was varied and offered plenty of choices. We especially appreciated that gluten-free bread was available. The rooms are equipped with fans, which was very useful during the warmer days. Appenzell is a truly charming village and well worth visiting. It is home to both a cheese factory and a chocolate factory, as well as several cable cars offering breathtaking mountain views. The village is also an ideal base for travelers who want to explore both Switzerland and Austria, thanks to its convenient location close to the border.

Reviewed Jun 18, 2026The location of Hotel Adler was just perfect--a 5 minute walk (mostly downhill) from the train station and right on the main street shopping street! Room was comfortable, food was great. But the thing that impressed me the most was the service that they staff provided. I'd say they went above and beyond to help us with everything from food choices, to hiking experiences, to travel information and they did everything they could to make our stay wonderful! I was especially impressed by Matjaz Leu (we called him Matthew). He was so kind and helpful and literally bent over backwards to help us so many times on our 3 days in Appenzell and I really appreciated how sweet and kind he was!

Zu unserer Freude durften wir, obwohl wir ein Low-Budget-Zimmer gebucht hatten, das wunderschöne traditionelle Zimmer im zweiten Stock beziehen. Den perfekten Start in unseren Aufenthalt rundete ein ausgezeichnetes Fondue ab, das wir uneingeschränkt und wärmstens empfehlen können.
