Reviewed Sep 17, 2026The location was superb and we could park the car in a private car park. The hotel is very nice and rooms are big and comfortable. It was near some of the attractions of the city. Our dog was very comfortable as well. The breakfast was gorgeous and with a great wide of variety... Appenzell is really and amazing place to visit with many shops and restaurants and surrounded by beautiful mountains and with the river next to it.

The hotel was quite confusing to navigate to find our room, but manageable. We also found that the window was onto a relatively busy street which made it loud during the day and evening. The church is next door and the bells that ring often are quite loud which can be disturbing to your sleep !

La vue sur un autre toit n'était pas terrible ainsi que le matelas un peu mou. La TV ne fonctionnait pas et il manque à mon avis la Clim et un frigo pour une chambre double à 238.-

The biggest downside was the location. The hotel is right next to a church, and the bells were extremely loud. I could barely sleep the entire night. Also, because of the hot weather in July and August, the room didn’t have proper ventilation or air circulation. I felt quite suffocated and had to keep the window open, but that made the church bells even louder. I checked out early the next morning at around 7 AM and moved to another hotel so I could get some proper rest.

Hotel is located next to the church so bells ring every one hour (even at night), at 4:44 people were singing there as well. Therefore its impossible to have a peaceful stay there. Breakfast was another disappointment for us - very limited (no veggies at all), especially with this price of the hotel. Overall hotel is overpriced.

Reviewed Jul 5, 2026Bien situé au centre d'Appenzell. A 5' de la gare à pied. La salle de bain est assez spacieuse pour un chambre simple.
La chambre n'est pas climatisée, ce qui peut être pénible par grandes chaleurs. L'hôtel se trouve juste à côté de l'église dont les cloches peuvent déranger pendant le sommeil, mais ce problème peut être minimisé en dormant fenêtres fermées. Un minibar serait un plus.

Reviewed Jun 29, 2026Beautiful hotel in the middle of Appenzell, the self check-in was very convenient and the staff were happy to arrange a late check-in. The room is rustic but well maintained with good facilities. The view was lovely with the bells of the town. The lift is an experience!
The rooms could benefit from a fan in the summer months.

Reviewed Jun 22, 2026Hotel Hecht is beautiful: spotlessly clean, gleaming hardwood floors and woodwork, decorated with art that reflects Appenzell. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was generous, and we especially enjoyed the varieties of Appenzell cheese available. The hotel is an easy walk from the train station, which makes it a great jumping off point for hiking the region or just enjoying the lovely town. Much has been said about the church bells, but we found they didn't disturb our sleep, and we enjoyed regularly hearing a part of Swiss/Appenzell history.

The breakfast was very small. Not alot to choose from. A couple of old cheeses, some bread and yoghurt with fruits. Had to boil our own eggs. A little disappointed considering the price of the rooms.

Lack of staff - nobody was on reception for check in. You had to phone someone and then they asked what hotel you were calling from. Be aware that there is only one eu plug in the room so come prepared. No air con, no tea and coffee making facilities. For this price point I expected a LOT more. The instructions for parking at the sister hotel were non existent.
