Wood Heart

We stayed at Wood Heart for two nights during our trip to Ella, and we were really happy with our stay. Hotel is new, location is great — it’s easy to get around, while still being quiet and peaceful. One of the highlights for us was definitely the view from the balcony. Sitting there in the morning with a cup of coffee and looking at the mountains was such a nice way to start the day. The breakfasts were also really good — fresh, tasty and felt very homemade. But what we appreciated most was the hospitality of the owner and the whole team. Communication was excellent, everyone was friendly and helpful, and you can really feel that they care about their guests and want you to have a comfortable stay. We also arranged an airport transfer through the hotel, and everything went perfectly. The driver was absolutely great — punctual, very safe and careful on the road. Overall, a lovely place with a great atmosphere and wonderful people. If we come back to Ella, we would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended!

Der Ausblick ist wirklich traumhaft und die Lage gut – das Zentrum ist zu Fuß erreichbar. Besonders positiv war der äußerst freundliche und hilfsbereite Gastgeber, der uns sogar bei der Planung unserer weiteren Reise unterstützt und wertvolle Tipps gegeben hat. Die Ausstattung ist eher einfach, aber völlig ausreichend. Insgesamt ein sehr angenehmer Aufenthalt!

It was very scenic and everything that is needed was there like comfy bed and blankets. Tv and fridge got and free water and chill place. Customised breakfast like juices mango and passion are the best. Taught a shortcut on railway to the city which is like 10-15mins away.

Keep your doors close or else flies and mosquitoes will enter

A lovely little family-run hotel with a truly breathtaking view! You can order a Sri Lankan breakfast and rent a scooter, which makes exploring the area so easy. The view from the window was absolutely beautiful. A peaceful location away from the busy centre of Ella — perfect if you’re looking for a quiet and relaxing stay.

We had a fantastic stay with a breathtaking balcony view! The hosts were so warm and welcoming, going out of their way to make us feel at home. They were incredibly sweet, keeping our son entertained so we could pack and get ready for the day, and he absolutely loved playing with their two friendly dogs. They even surprised me with beautiful birthday decorations in our room, which was such a thoughtful touch. Highly recommend - a must-stay in Ella!

They were the perfect way to start each day. We would also like to give a special mention to the gentleman who looked after the accommodation. He was incredibly attentive from the moment we arrived, welcoming us with tea, biscuits, and fresh fruit. He was also very kind and helpful with our luggage. His warmth and generosity really stood out, and he is truly a 10/10 gentleman. A special mention must also go to Mr. Ashan, whose kindness, professionalism, and genuine willingness to help made our stay even more enjoyable. He was always attentive, friendly, and ready to assist with anything we needed. His personal attention made us feel truly valued and well looked after. Overall, this was much more than just a place to stay. It was a genuine experience of Sri Lankan hospitality, warmth, and kindness. We would absolutely recommend this accommodation to anyone visiting Ella, and if we have the opportunity to return one day, we would definitely stay here again. Nothing! Everything was absolutely perfect, 100/10. I genuinely have no complaints at all. The hospitality, the accommodation, and the overall experience were exceptional.

Die letzten Meter sind nur zu Fuß erreichbar, was die Lage besonders ruhig und idyllisch macht. Der Gastgeber organisiert An‑ und Abreise mit Gepäck perfekt. Über Treppen und die Bahngleise gelangt man direkt zum Aufstieg auf Ella Rock oder ins Zentrum (max. 20 Minuten zu Fuß). Die Zimmer sind hervorragend: sauber, mit makellos weißem Boden, auch das Badezimmer ist sehr gepflegt. Von der Terrasse hat man einen traumhaften Blick auf Ella Rock und einen Wasserfall. Das Zimmer hat Moskitonetze, Klimaanlage und Sitzgelegenheiten sowohl draußen auf der Terrasse als auch im Zimmer. Die Atmosphäre ist familiär und herzlich. Der Gastgeber stimmt sich vorab sehr gut ab, ist aufmerksam ohne aufdringlich zu sein, dadurch wird der Aufenthalt einzigartig. Gepäcktransport, abwechslungsreiches Frühstück mit frischem Obst und traditionellen Hoppern sowie verschiedene Currygerichte zum Abendessen zeigen die besondere Gastfreundschaft. Auf Wunsch wurde sogar unsere Wäsche gewaschen. Wer eine ruhige, idyllische Unterkunft mit familiärer Atmosphäre sucht, ist hier genau richtig. Ein Homestay, das durch Lage, Sauberkeit, Ausstattung und Gastgeber‑Erlebnis zu den besten unserer Reise zählt – absolut empfehlenswert!

Lovely big balcony with great views. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Room had aircon and mozzie nets over bed. We didnt actually see any mozzies in or out of the accomo. Nice walk into Ella in daylight hours. A walk down a load of stairs, then a walk along train tracks. Prob 10-15 mins approx in all. Tuktuk back to accomo was around 1000rupee. All staff were lovely. A nice place for my kids to experience rustic type accomo.

The amount of stairs was do-able for me and my kids but might not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties. Beds were a bit hard for my liking and no mattress protectors so if i stayed again i might bring some topper for extra comfort/hygiene.

The view and the hospitality.

However, the elderly gentleman who prepared the breakfast and room did his best to make up for the poor service we experienced. He was very polite, respectful, and attentive. He also carried our luggage up that difficult slope and even offered us bananas from his garden as we were checking out.

During our trip to Sri Lanka, we stayed at 6 different hotels to explore every region. This was the only hotel we were not satisfied with. While all the other hotels provided transfers and helped with our arrival, this hotel just called and told us to take a tuk-tuk. We had also asked about a safari, but they replied very late and messaged us at odd hours. The road to the hotel's entrance is quite difficult for both cars and tuk-tuks. Anyone with limited mobility should definitely choose another hotel. We were not satisfied considering the price.

Very friendly staff welcomed us as soon as we arrived. Room was very modern, comfortable and clean. View from the balcony was amazing. Breakfast was served on our balcony at the time of our choosing.

Be prepare to walk quite a few stairs downhill to get to hotel location but that’s just a small inconvenience.

Loin du centre à pied et pas hyper accessible (montée très importante, route étroite) Mais sinon faisable > 10 min en tuk tuk / 600 roupies par trajet. On peut aussi trouver un short cut pour y aller à pieds en passant par la voie ferrée (15 min)

Snídaně byla velmi chutná, každý den jiná. U pokoje je soukromý balkón s úžasným výhed od údolí. V pokoji je velká koupelna i lednička, funkční klimatizace i moskytiéry. Dobrý výchozí bod k výletům v Ella. V okolí bujná zeleň, výhled na vodopády. V noci úplný klid, bezpečná lokalita.

Ubytování je v prudkém svahu, nevede k němu žádná silnice, jen cca 120 schodů z horní silnice - hostitel nám pomohl těžké zavazadlo snést i vynést k taxíku. Lednička nebyla dobře vyčištěná. Hostitelem nabízené taxi bylo výrazně dražší než jiné nabídky. Nejbližší obchody s potravinami jsou poměrně daleko.

We stayed here for 3 nights in Ella and it was just so amazing 👏. Firstly the rooms are very clean and are fitted with everything you'd need. They also have big windows with a door that goes out to the balcony plus some curtains if you need privacy or trying to sleep. The balcony is absolutely beautiful and so are the views to the surrounding mountains and a small waterfall in the distance! The breakfast is served by the wonderful hosts straight to your balcony and it is very big and generous! It's also super tasty and the hosts make sure everything is alright!! But most importantly the hosts and service are beyond incredible! Unfortunately some of the people I went with and myself were ill and sick (not connected to wood heart but something we had somewhere else) but one of the hosts, Sumana, was really kind and tried his best to help out and still serve us some breakfast. And when we had to go he carried both of our suitcases demanding that we get ourselves up and take care of ourselves. He was ever so nice and helped alot even advising what the sick person with us should do and let him sit down. He did not have to do any of this yet he did which was so helpful and made our lives alot easier. This place if a definite recommendation!! 🙌🤩 Also: The hotel is down a hill and some steps from the main road and the sign is covered up a bit by some leaves. To get to ella it's nicer to walk down the steps just by the rooms down to the train track where you can walk along them and then get to the center of Ella.

Wood Heart, Ella — ★★★★★ We had a wonderful stay at Wood Heart. The service was outstanding - nothing was too much trouble for the family running the place (a son and his parents), and they made us feel genuinely cared for throughout our stay. In one standout moment, the dad personally carried both of our heavy bags down the steps to the property when we arrived in the dark, late at night. He also went out of his way to escort our son with us up the hill after we mentioned he gets nervous around the local dogs - small thing that really meant a lot to us and really put our son at ease. The host was also really responsive and got back to us promptly whenever we had requests or questions. The view over the surrounding landscape was serene and incredible and we enjoyed having our morning coffee out on the terrace overlooking this and listening to the birdsong and watching the wildlife. Great value for money too - we stayed as a group of 4 in the family room which had 2 big beds and a living area - it worked out well for us. Breakfast was a highlight: hearty, authentic Sri Lankan food with plenty of variety each day, taken on the terrace where we could enjoy the fresh air and nature. They accommodated all our needs without any fuss. A couple of things worth noting: The family room is a much more traditional and rustic part of the property - it is not one of the glass-sided modern rooms you see in a lot of the online photos -worth knowing what to expect. There were also some power and water cuts during our stay which sounds like an area issue, not a reflection of the hosts or the accommodation itself. You will get your steps in here!

Despertarte al amanecer con esas vistas no tiene precio. La familia que regenta las habitaciones es muy acogedora y nos atendieron de maravilla, son encantadores . El desayuno abundante y muy rico sobre todo saboreando en cada sorbo las inigualables vistas.

Tenía un difícil acceso, pero la familia nos ayudó con las maletas desde donde nos dejó el chofer. Realmente nos ha gustado todo, quizás el precio un pelín elevado en relación a otros lugares del paso, y en cuanto a lo que ofrece en el mismo que realmente es una habitación normalita y buenas vistas, pero simplemente ese despertar con esas vistas y la atención de la familia ya merece la pena.

Krásné ubytování s úžasným výhledem do údolí. Hostilé byli velmi milí a ochotní. Výborná snídaně podávaná na balkóně. Blízko ubytování je skvělá lokální resturace Dream Lounge Ella, kde vám hostitelé domluví stravování. Pokoje jsou moderně zařízené s pohodlnými matracemi a velmi pěknou koupelnou. Dopravu do dalšího města nám hostitelé také zařídili.

Die Aussicht ist zwar toll, aber der Weg zur Unterkunft ist schwierig. Autos können nicht bis zur Wohnung fahren, sodass man die Taschen gut ca. 200 Meter über Stufen nach unten und später wieder nach oben tragen muss.

The view, rooms, washrooms everything was good including the toiletries. We just faced the problem of mosquitoes and some insects but for that too they provide you with mosquio nets around your bed.

Super nette Leute und sehr bemüht, uns alle Wünsche zu erfüllen. Wir hatten wundervolles Sri Lankisches Frühstück auf unserer Terrasse mit Blick auf den Wasserfall. Außerdem haben sie uns einen Kochkurs vermittelt (Ella Green Grow), der einfach toll war.

Najlepszy hotel w jakim byliśmy na Sri Lance! Widoki z balkonu niesamowite - wodospad i góry. Pokój bardzo ładnie urządzony, schludna łazienka. Czysto, przestronnie. Pyszne, syte śniadanie. Sympatyczny personel. Dobra lokalizacja blisko do centrum.

The view was amazing, all the way across valley, could see Ravena waterfalls and so many birds. Hosts were welcoming and the breakfast on our balconies was incredible - so much good food prepared with much care and generosity. A really fun cute easy walk into town down some steps and along the train tracks.

Downstairs room doesn't have the floor to ceiling glass windows like upstairs has - was initially expecting that from some of the photos, but was still a wonderful place to stay.

The room was beautifully designed and very modern with an outstanding view across to a waterfall. The staff were very helpful. It was so relaxing sitting on the lovely balcony. The excellent Sri Lankan breakfast is served on the balcony. There are several good restaurants within walking distance.

Exceptionally welcoming host made us feel at home from the very beginning. Breakfast was a highlight - served right on our balcony each morning, with a different, delicious Sri Lankan specialty every day. The view from the apartment was absolutely stunning, and we were even able to watch the sunrise from our balcony.

The host has been very attentive and nice. It’s a cheap stay for what you get, so don’t expect luxury. It’s a repurposed house, where they sublet rooms, if your plan is to come to Ella, stay out visiting all day and coming back to sleep, this place does the job. Wifi was very good and the room size was good.

There are many steps to get to the property, if you have any sort of mobility issues, probably not the best place. Unfortunately, despite the amazing view, we had massive banana trees right in front of us, so you cannot enjoy it. We didn’t have a TV in our room, but seeing the pictures some rooms might have. The room needs some upgrades and the bathroom shower has no screen, so water splashes.

Очень уютный и тихий отель (собаки не воют, будочники не ездят, птицы не кричат- можно выспаться). Всё чисто и аккуратно, чувствуется забота о гостях. Хозяева просто чудесные, создаётся ощущение, будто приехал в гости к родственникам 🫶 Завтраки ланкийские, очень вкусные, разнообразные и сытные. В номере не было насекомых. Ну и отдельная любовь - это вид с балкона, он просто обалденный! Спасибо Рекомендую

The room and view were five star. Sitting on the balcony at breakfast, that's the best view I've ever had for a breakfast. The rooms were large, modern and really nice. Good aircon. Good breakfast.

This isn't a hotel, but four rooms with balconies in a village on the side of a valley overlooking Ella and managed by the owners who live in an adjoining house. The big issue with Wood Heart is accessing the rooms. To get to the rooms, you have to go down one long set of steep concrete steps, past a construction site, and then down another set of steep and uneven concrete steps with no handrail. Don't even think of taking heavy bags down to the room yourself - you need the owners of the house to arrange that. Not suitable at all for older people or anyone unsteady on their feet. The other negative is that although on the map it's close to Ella, it's a long winding road to walk to Ella and really you need to get a tuk tuk to get into town, or alternatively you can walk alongside the railway track at the bottom of the valley - but make sure you know how to get back (no signs going back) and make sure to get back before nightfall. I wouldn't recommend walking into Ella along the railway track, although we did it.

Die Aussicht ist unfassbar schön. Mit der Sonne aufzuwachen und denn Sonnenaufgang durch die große Glasfront zu beachten ist wunderschön. Auch das üppige Frühstück auf dem Balkon ist lecker. Das Bett ist sehr angenehm und wir waren froh nach vielen unbequemen Betten endlich eine gute Matratze zu finden.

Es ist leicht außerhalb, man kann aber in 15 Minuten über die Bahngleise im Zentrum sein. Allein für die Aussicht lohnt es sich.

The best accommodation in Ella i think! We had a room viewing a waterfall. A waterfall! Not close, obviously, but across the valley, but still mesmerizing! The host is super nice, we didn't have adapter and he lent us his own. The breakfast was served in the terrace and it's one of the best breakfasts we had in Sri Lanka. Every day something different and very tasty! The house is situated out of the noice Ella main street but it's easy to go on foot, around 7 min, or by tuk tuk. Highly recommended

What a wonderful spot. Lovely family. Quiet and peaceful haven, with incredible views. Feast of a breakfast, sets you up for the days adventures. Easy to walk into Ella via the train track, if you're up for a 15 minute walk. We walked both into Ella and back, during the day and late at night, with zero issues.

The breakfasts were plentiful and staff were very accommodating. We had our laundry done here for a very reasonable price.

Not so much an issue for us, but worth knowing the accommodating has to be accessed down a number of stairs, passing other properties

Įspūdingas vaizdas pro langą, skanūs pusryčiai, puikus šeimininkas. Vieta įrengta naujai. Iki miestelio galima nueiti per 15 min peščiomis arba kviesti tuktuk'ą.

Nádherné místo - pokoj Delux měl nádherný výhled a krásnou koupelnu. Snídaně byla úžasná a rodina je neskutečně milá a nápomocná. Všichni byli tak přátelští a snažili se nám ve všem vyhovět. Pokud hledáte ubytování v Elle - tohle je úžasné.

Někomu mohou vadit schody ale ty jsou v Elle všude😄

Einfach genial mit faszinierenden rundum Blick. Der Weg zum Wood Heart ist ein bisschen herausfordernd - die letzten 200 Meter geht es auf Stufen bergab. Die Zimmer, der Blick ä, das Essen sowie die Freundlichkeit sind sensationell. Die Familie hilft bei den Koffern. Ich kann es nur weiterempfehlen.

Prachtig uitzicht en zeer goed ontbijt. Kamer en badkamer waren netjes. Vriendelijk personeel.

De douche had geen harde straal en er zat een grote vlek op één van de lakens. Voor de rest was het top!

Pobyt w Wood Heart w Ella był wyjątkowym doświadczeniem. To urokliwe miejsce prowadzone jest przez niezwykle uprzejmą i gościnną rodzinę, która sprawia, że od pierwszych chwil czujesz się jak w domu. Widok z obiektu zapiera dech w piersiach – idealny, by zrelaksować się i w pełni poczuć klimat Sri Lanki. Śniadania były przepyszne, zawsze świeże i podane z sercem. To idealne miejsce zarówno na odpoczynek, jak i na bazę wypadową do zwiedzania okolicy. Zdecydowanie polecam każdemu, kto szuka autentycznej i ciepłej atmosfery w Ella!

Everything was perfect. Everyone of their family was very helpful friendly and helped me a lot. Breakfast and view was amazing. Do not afraid of upstairs. It is easy you get used to it. Good view fantastic vibe cant find it down points. Thanks for everything 🙂

Las vistas son espectaculares

La struttura è carina, la stanza pulita, colazione e cena buone. Ha accesso ai binari da cui si può partire per ella rock.

Poca pressione acqua in bagno, un po’ di scale per arrivare e se si è in macchina anche una salita. Inoltre il comportamento degli albergatori è stato inaccettabile. La mia recensione sarebbe stata da 8 se solo non avessero cancellato la prenotazione con l’intenzione di non farci lasciare una review, e per recuperare le commissioni di Booking. Con il servizio lavanderia hanno rovinato una maglietta, dopo un po’ di insistenza, ci hanno risarcito ma poi hanno deciso di cancellare la prenotazione quando eravamo ancora sulle scale uscendo. Ci hanno bloccato su whatsapp e siamo tornati indietro, abbiamo provato a parlarci ma non ne hanno voluto sapere di nulla e ci hanno fatto pagare il costo completo della prenotazione, incluso di quelle che sarebbero le commissioni di Booking. Quindi da qui il motivo della mia review negativa, ci siamo sentiti presi in giro.

Przestronny pokój, duży taras ze stołem, gdzie serwowano pyszne śniadania. Piękne widoki i bardzo pomocny personel. Aby być obiektywnym to muszę wspomnieć, że jeżeli ktoś nie lubi schodów to ostrzegam jest ich trochę (do miasta skrótem przez tory znacznie mniej), bagaż na szczęście jest wnoszony.

A great comfortable place to stay with very kind and helpful hosts, plus fantastic breakfast

Шикарные виды с балкона,да и сам балкон прекрасен. Отлично место для завтрака и любования природой. Номер очень чистый, есть все необходимое. Дружелюбный хозяин, по приезду угостил нас чаем с печением и бананами, это было мило. По лесенке до центра довольно близко, главное не забыть о месте где она начинается на обратном пути. Хозяин встречает гостей у машины, иначе самостоятельно найти вероятности мало.

Spacious, clean and tidy room. Comfortable bed. Views of the Ella rock and waterfall from the room. They served delicious breakfast with a huge fruit platter. The hosts Sumanapala and Sandya were exceptionally generous with their time. Sumanapala helped us take the luggage up and down the stairs, he went to town to top up my phone , made us a delicious dinner. Hosts made us feel at home. Wish we had more time at this place and explore Ella.

La struttura si trova un po’ fuori Ella e per raggiungere le stanze troppe scale .Però per la vista ne vale la pena

Prachtig uitzicht vanaf het balkon, we werden in de ochtend verwend door een heerlijk ontbijtje. De gastheer was heel vriendelijk. De zoon heeft transport voor ons geregeld naar de volgende locatie voor een goede prijs.

Niets. We vonden Ella erg druk en toeristisch en zijn hier maar 2 nachten gebleven.

Owners and their sons were incredible hosts. Even taking us into town one evening. The welcome drinks and snacks were appreciated m. Breakfast served on your balcony was stunning (too much really and we actually asked for less on the second day) Views are stunning and the rooms are clean and comfortable. (True to the pictures) The double and triple with view were perfect for my family. Adjacent to one another allowed my daughter her own space.

People talk about the steps and difficult access and this is true but the owners have a tuk tuk for luggage and we quite enjoyed the walk to town. If you are fit and able you will be absolutely fine and so worth it for the breathtaking scenery.
