Clean bedding, good evening and breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff
It's a lovely old building needs a bit of updating and decorating
Good location and friendly staff. Happy to cater for dietary needs if possible
It's an older style property, which is lovely, but floors are uneven and a little tired.
Breakfast was lovely - my husband had the cooked breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it.
There was nothing to dislike
The location and very comfy bed
Nothing
Pretty old building in Town Centre
Bathroom slightly tired
Our second stay here. Staff are always so lovely, the rooms clean, comfortable and full of old charm. Perfect location for us in the centre of town
Breakfast ok
Very tatty and old Needs updating and rooms small and cramped
Period hotel 1520 , friendly staff, great location . I liked the court yard and food .
Just a little re-painting here and there . bathroom needs fresh white sealant and TLC . that’s all .
The staff were very helpful
There was no hot water the whole time of our stay. The room was not very clean and the food was below average. The tv did not work properly.
Staff were incredibly helpful and kind, breakfast was excellent, bed was comfortable.
Rooms were slightly cramped and uneven floors but it was absolutely fine for a night or two, and probably the nature of the old building.
Staff were nice enough
No hot water or water full stop in the bathroom. Unable to shower.
Good location, bedroom was good. And they had fans in the room due to the heat. The breakfast was excellent and the staff in the morning were very good.
trying to park was difficult, the bathroom was poor and the place was a bit run down. It served a purpose but it is in need of a makeover.
Great location, great staff and the best food ive ever had chips wise. Great stay.
Staff friendly; great breakfast and nice bedding
Impossible to sleep in small hot room in heatwave despite fans and open window. room remained too hot
We stayed in one of their family apartments. All appliances worked really well and were clean. The personal was a big bonus. Good hotel breakfasts cooked to order and always fresh. Very good local knowledge for advise on where and how to visit sights in surrounding area.
The apartment could have benefited of a deep cleaning, such as under beds, corners etc. The bed had a broken leg but as there was a second bed in the apartment, we used this one instead.
Location was good
Staff.. breakfast and rooms are a disappointment
Location and the food was good
Our room. Number 1 was like something from the 1970's. Very outdated. Dirty carpet. Rock hard pillows. Shower head did not fit in the shower support. Had to hold the shower head. Very hot room. Had 2 fans but full of dust and fluff! Very small room. And the room faced on to the beer garden which was extremely noisy. Staff were miserable and inviting apart from 1 female bar staff.
Room spacious Character property Helpful kind staff
It was old fashioned and a bit scruffy especially the bathroom and restaurant areas. The parking was full one night and the other night extremely tight getting out as cars had parked too close either side and there was a brick wall facing so no room to manoeuvre . Breakfast overpriced
Warm place and lovely environment
The waiters / waitresses take a long time to take you order, but once you order they are fast
Location
Shower was filthy with last tenants left over shower bottles and mold around bath Breakfast coffee was cold. Poached egg felt like it just came out of the fridge. 7am wake up from people outside the window in garden arguing. No staff in sight
Good breakfast, friendly staff, centre of town
Small room no air conditioning
Really central, welcoming and comfortable, also had character. Delicious and big breakfast :-)
There was nothing I didn’t like, it was perfect for our one night stay.
Very friendly staff,lovely atmosphere
Quaint Hertfordshire town, and the old bull central to it
Bed was lovely and comfortable.
Toilet was broken. Shower door too narrow, both of us unable to fit. Security door to the corridor leading to the rooms was propped open throughout the night. TV wasn’t working, no channels available. Staff didn’t know about car parking availability or what time breakfast was served.
Very comfy bed but room is very dated
We didn’t get in our room when we returned as the keys wouldn’t work and took over an hour to get in
Shower wasn’t great. Heard street noise and beer barrels being moved at 6.30 am Saturday morning and people sitting at the rear garden talking loudly at 6.00a.m.
Wonderful old building, Lovely staff
The staff were friendly and the location was great.
The room was very dated, small and very hot.
great location, comfortable, the staff were so helpful
everything was great
Friendly and helpful staff
Room was very tired. Bathroom needs upgrading.
The staff were friendly and helpful
We booked a room for 3 adults in The Old Bull Inn, our actual room was in a different building in a different street! It was absolutely filthy dirty, badly maintained and inadequate for 3 adults, it felt like a sort of building I would not want to be in, not a pub or Hotel, it gave the impression of an abandoned university student accommodation. The hallway and stairs were filthy and stained thread bare broken carpets, the white handrails were filthy with dirty hand prints and dirt spills that had not been cleaned for months, thick cobwebs, some of which had been ripped out of the wall. The walls were all badly marked and filthy. The door lock to our room had obviously been forced at some stage and no longer locked properly. The doors did not shut in the bedroom or bathroom. The bed for the 3rd person was not made up, was an ancient bed settee with a disgusting mattress, filthy pillows, no covers for the quilt or pillows, bathroom sink was dirty, we had a half used soap dispenser that had a dirty plunger, the shower head was so clogged that the water came out like a tap not sprinkling, when we turned on the shower the lights flickered in the bathroom, one of the white towels was stained with brown marks. The bedroom drawer had hairs and crumbs in , the bedroom floor had clumps of dirt with hairs stuck to it, the headboard had a thick layer of dust on it. The hair dryer, kettle both did not have PAT test stickers on and the hairdryer had a screw and bolt in the drawer next to it possibly broken from the dryer ? The kettle had thick lime scale in it and was half full of water which meant it had not been cleaned from the last guest, the plates in the cupboard still had food on them ! We were left a fairy washing up liquid bottle with a centimetre dept of liquid in it. The side tables had peeling off edging and very loose handles. The wardrobe doors overlapped and did not close. The mats for the table were badly stained .
Friendly & Hospitable.
Menu a little lacking in variety.
Breakfast and the staff were exceptional-10/10 for both. Bar area and outside seating were nice.
It could do with refurbishing as it looks a bit tired. Carpets were frayed and my room (10) had a tap that you couldn't turn off. Mattress very soft so not for everyone.
Friendly People, nice music, charming pub environment, great and fresh breakfast
Space and cleanliness in the apt
Stairs to access the apt
Verygood

Lovely old building with lovely staff
Is in desperate need of a good clean and makeover. Rooms don’t have air con so the bedrooms were just unbearable to stay in when it’s hot.
Good location, nice old traditional property, good breakfast
Nothing really… it was over 30 degrees outside so AC would have been nice (there was a fan).
Location was great and the breakfast was nice.
Very hot room and very dated bathroom. Bed was reasonably comfortable. The room is rather tired for the price.
Friendly, helpful staff especially at breakfast. Clean apartment. Great location.
Sadly one of the televisions in a bedroom did not work at all. A minor issue.
ElnPersonal y la Ubicación
Que el desayuno finalizaba a las 9 ama ...me gustaría por lo menos 1 hora mas
El Personal y la Ubicación excelentes para mi plan en Royston
Todo bien
Property is lovely. Staff were exceedingly helpful and sweet. -breakfast was amazing- custom cooked to order. Other guests were lovely too. -but I stayed during 29 degree heat and this property was not equipped with air-conditioning.
It seems petty to say that I didn’t like the lack of air conditioning - as it is probably only required for 4-5 days per year.
The food and bar area were nice, the staff attentive.
The bedroom was poor, the tv Ariel was on an old one that didn't work. The TV was small and only had lots of film options, no local tv or news channels, then kept stopping for a break, The shower was broken and relied on a hand held one of the taps.
Lovely hotel with loads of character and charm. All the staff were super friendly. Breakfast was amazing. Overall great value.
Nothing
Nice breakfast. Comfortable and clean room. Adequate parking. Did everything it needed to do.
Back staircase could have been cleaner. Room was adequate but quite small.
Very pleasant staff. Good food.
Stairs to bedroom steep for 80+ year olds. Too much light coming in at night. Stair surroundings dusty.
Beautiful pub. Lovely location. Staff were friendly and attentive. Comfortable bed. Everything clean. Tasty breakfast thrown in! Lovely area to sit outside and relax.
Wasn’t anyone’s fault but it was so hot in the room. Fan provided but still really stuffy.
All the staff were friendly and helpful Lovely hotel . Very clean . Good location in the centre of town Good value for money
No complsints
Staff friendly and helpful, food lovely, inn full of character, obviously very old and full of history
Everything acceptable and great crisp bedxing but decor in need of freshening
Very friendly people , really enjoyed our stay
The staff. They were excellent
The crappy entrance round the back to the apartments down a dodgy alley way. The corridors were falling apart and there were holes in them. Def would never stay there again.
Location was good
Room a bit small
Nice friendly staff. A fan was provided to combat the heatwave temperatures.
The hotel is looking tired and in need of tlc. My single room didn’t have a working bedside lamp so I had to turn off the light by the door and feel my way back to bed. The shower was very weak and came out in a dribble.
The room was extremely dated, it needed a good clean.
Bed was comfortable. And the breakfast was nice.
Shower was no good at all. The floor was too uneven and the pigeons kept us awake all night.
Staff were friendly and food was nice
Very dated and needed a good clean. Main staris was very dirty. Room was dusty and needed freshen up
Staff was wonderful , great atmosphere.
Bed leaned a little and almost fell out of bed.
Nice town
Breakfast was lovely, especially having the refill for coffee.
Character of building Friendly staff
Small room Small bed
Breakfast was good and staff very amenable. Linen on bed was clean and fresh.
Bed was saggy and felt like was falling out of bed. Carpets old and dirty, bathroom could have been cleaner and or updated. Towels were worn thin and grey in colour, original colour was white. Didn't dry you at all. For a hundred and twenty three pounds stirling a night we expected more. I know it's an old building but some standards need to be kept. Updating rooms could be a start especially invest in some new towels.
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel extremely welcome by all the staff. Our room was huge! and the four poster bed extremely comfortable. The breakfast was stunning! Our favourite is eggs Royale and it was absolutely delicious.
Nothing!
The breakfast was top drawer, all the coffee, tea, juice, fruit, yoghurt you could ask for and the full English was outstanding
We stayed in one of the apartments which was about a 1 min walk round the corner. The apartment was very spacious but was in need of some updating particulary in the bathrooms.
Great hotel, but the rooms especially bathrooms could use some renovation. Staff was really kind and helpful ❤️
Very central and with good chance of parking in an area with lots of restrictions. Lovely breakfast and staff very accommodating
Friends had bad experiences with facilities, a shower door that fell off, and one that didn’t heat up sufficiently. But they were sorted and given alternative room by helpful staff.
It was perfect for us as we were at a party just outside.
Nothing
El Personal y la ubicacion
Todo tenia mucho Polvo y la ducha solo salía agua por 5 de los agujeros ... imposible ducharse adecuadamente
The comfortable bed, the old world feeling and delicious breakfast.
Convenience for friend’s party
Sadly the breakfast wasn’t very good.
Nice friendly staff
Nice friendly staff
It was a beautiful venue and lovely pub!
The parking was difficult and no priority parking for people who are staying - the bathroom could have been a touch cleaner but overall great standards and beautiful room!
Location
We had the same room that we had in November 2025. We raised comments on the very poor TV reception and the general condition of the room (No 9) which looked shabby. The toilet seat mounts were broken, and the carpet was well worn. Occupying the same room revealed the same issues (nothing has been done to improve those issues). The two redeeming items were a very good full English breakfast and good parking adjacent to the hotel
Location was great in the centre of Royston
Toilet seat broken , shower didn't work properly and wasn't fixed to the wall properly, noisy from 6am onwards , no drinking water provided , when I asked for drinking water I was given 4 small bottles and charged 12 pound . There were stains on the sheets . The room was very small and out dated . Definitely not worth the money.
Clean, comfortable, staff service was excellent
Everything was as expected
Staff were all very friendly and pleasant. Room was big and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was good. We had drinks and some food in the bar. The portions were HUGE! We would have stayed longer but had a party to go to.
Everything seemed very dated. The shower over the bath was terrible! The door codes to access the landing were tricky to master and why not use the same code for both doors? There was an unpleasant smell on the landing. Checkout at 10am is too early.
There was plenty of room in the apartment for 4 people
The facilities were very basic
Cracking old building with periods features
Sorry but the place is very worn and actually dirty
Friendly staff unpretentious
Small double bed
Great character and lovely pub.
Rooms are slightly outdated and the radiator needed bleeding as the noice was constant all night.
I didn’t like it
Dirty!! Not worth £630 for two nights!!! Advertised as an executive two bedroom department, but in all honesty it was like a grubby two bedroom students apartment that needed a good claim. Our socks were actually filthy black when we took our shoes off after walking around.
Very friendly helpful staff. Nice breakfast.
Pretty disappointing accommodation - the room was stiflingly hot when we arrived and the bed had a 10cm block of foam on top of the mattress - the cheapest most useless mattress topper ever! The shower screen fell off in my husbands’ hand when he finished showering. The shower water backed up and he had to unplug the drain!
Hotel in a good location in Royston. Bathroom was dirty with hairs on toilet seat and shower. Shower hose split with water spurting all over the place, could face even attempting a shower waited until I got home. Definitely not value for money will not stay there ever again !

Location
We really enjoyed our stay. Friendly staff, very comfy bed, excellent cooked breakfast, central location. All good - Thank you!
Nothing.
Breakfast was excellent and staff were very friendly. Location worked well for me, on the high street a 10 min walk from the station. Water pressure was good and shower was hot.
The room was a bit shabby and carpet quite dusty, especially around the edges, as if the middle has been hoovered but the edges round the skirting boards hadn’t been done for a long time. Mattress was saggy.
Location was fab for a surprise 50th birthday party. Bed very comfy. Breakfast was great. Room was comfy and warm
Needs a more deep clean. Water pressure very low in bath and shower. TV signal was rubbish. Lights in bathroom of bedroom 4 need sorting out. Noise from downstairs up until midnight was too loud.
Facilities would be good for a longer stay (we only booked as it was the last room left, we did not need for cooking/dining/lounge etc. The pub is so lovely (so a shame we couldn’t get a room in-house).
Sound of person walking around above was as if they were in our apartment! Presumably also had laminate floor and noise echoed around as so few soft furnishings in our space to dampen the sound. Bed small and lumpy. We slept so badly that we did not manage to get to breakfast - having been told it was only available til 9:30. When we checked out any 9:45 we were then told by another staff member that we could have breakfast if we liked! By then we had agreed to meet friends (to pay again) for breakfast elsewhere. Timing of breakfast and checkout both seem early for a Sunday?
