Large, comfortable rooms, attention to detail, great staff, amazing breakfast, brilliant restaurant, and superb location. Great work. Keep it up!
Nothing
Room comfortable and clean. Good choice of food of good quality
No problems
all went well, pleasant reception
nothing
All good breakfast lovely all very clean staff friendly.
Parking could be difficult
Staff were very polite and helpful. Able to give us information about the area
Unable to charge our ev. They weren’t working
Rooms good size and nicely furnished with comfortable bed. Bathroom lovely with good toiletries. Great breakfast.
The staff were excellent and the place was really easy going, comfortable, light and airy. The large beer garden was a great place to meet up with family and to have refreshments with the grandchildren.
Not being cooked breakfast fans we found the continental options limited eg no choice of cereals or fresh fruit.
Lovely staff, amazing pub and the closeness to everything was perfect
The green light in the room.
All food was very good. Generous portions and very nicely presented. Tasted good too!
Loo in our room did not flush properly.
Really comfortable room with a large bathroom. Lovely garden area. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Vibe in the bar in the evening was buzzing
I'm feed up of arriving at a hotel , booking in and then being told that the restaurant is fully booked and they cannot serve food in the Bar!! So welcome, but now go out and find somewhere else to eat! Breakfast took at least 20 minuets to arrive. Sausage and bacon poor and grisly. (Need a new supplier)
Nice modern refurbished room and bathroom. Restaurant and pub good and cozy.

Best food I've ever eaten
Die Fenster ließen sich nicht öffnen.
Good air-con, comfortable beds, lovely decor and building, great pub and restaurant downstairs, nice bathroom, friendly staff, on site parking.
We loved our stay, our room was lovely with air conditioning. All the staff were very good and friendly. The food was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. Would love to stay again.
We would have liked a small fridge and a safe.
We did not get chance to stay at the property as they rang us when we were one hour away from the property and told us that there were no rooms available and there had been. Mix up. We have not been offered any compensation for this issue.
The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly! We were given welcome drinks that we were able to take to our rooms, the rooms were spacious, modern and clean. The air con and radio were on when we entered the room which was a lovely touch and made us feel very welcome. We had a big comfy bed and a large ensuite with bath. Breakfast next day was delicious and a generous offering, with a pastry or granola, a hot breakfast from their standard breakfast menu and up to 3 drinks. Left feeling very happy, and disappointed we didn't get to spend more time there! Will definitely be returning.
The curtains were blackout but light still entered above and below so the room got quite light in the early hours. Probably not so much of an issue for heavier sleepers though.
Staff on arrival
Nothing material
Dined at The Chalk Hare Royston this evening, food, ambience and perfect staff. A lovely evening
interior quietness
Great refurbished hotel/restaurant/bar with parking and air con. The room was large with walk-in shower in the bathroom. The room had a DAB radio, TV and a kettle and Nespresso machine. We ate in the restaurant and the food was above average in range, taste and presentation. Breakfast was also excellent with hot and cold choices. Great place with friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.
Nothing
Great breakfast choice - beautifully served.
Nothing
Lovely big and exceptionally clean rooms. Bathroom room was beautiful, very high spec. Staff were all really friendly.
Nothing it was exceptional
Was great fast service from Max at the bar!!! very friendly pub and very good tasting and looking drinks. Big thanks to max
The breakfast and evening meals were very nice, good choices. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Large recently decorated bedroom & bathroom to a high quality standard. Staff were super kind and super helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Food was fabulous, hotel is in a great location.
The room was much bigger than expected! Both room and bathroom were extra clean, beautifully decorated. When we entered the room smooth radio was playing, a nice way to enter! Staff were brilliant, breakfast included was great - you can pick off the menu and order. We also had dinner there, highly recommend, the food is amazing! A wonderful stay
Lovely lunch on a lovely sunny day. Our waiter Steve was attentive & friendly and went that extra mile
Visited the Chalk Hare with friends on a very busy and hot Saturday evening. We had a lovely meal and our server Shelley was absolutely fantastic. Couldn’t do enough for us. Highly recommended
Location, quality of furnishings and decor. Lovely breakfast. Friendly attentive staff Ease of check in/out Lovely gardens.
Everything was perfect.
Nothing
Great location and nicely appointed room. If you like old buildings then the uneven floors and sash windows will tick all the boxes. Downstairs in the public areas plenty of areas to sit and relax. Nicely designed and flows well. Staff super friendly and helpful.
Not a fan of the clothes storage. There is a short rail where you can hang a few bits. Fine for overnight stay but any longer and it would be annoying I think.
First experience of Chalk Hare since refurb. Really impressed, atmosphere and venue buzzing. Food was excellent despite being really busy. Staff and service excellent too - Angie our waitress was great ! Definately be going back .
When for Sunday lunch with my Auntie food was excellent and great services from Ellie we were in bar at the front which is dog friendly a lovely atmosphere and I’m very enjoyable meal highly and good value too high recommend it Five stars
Lovely atmosphere in the lounge, I went for a drink with my daughter and her newborn. The pub staff were all super friendly and very helpful especially with the little one. Ellie was our server and made our drinks. Very quick service and the cocktail we ordered was lovely and the coffee nice and hot. Would visit again
Ellie is a real asset. She takes time to get to know customers, is friendly and always happy
Air conditioning was fantastic on a very hot and sunny week. The breakfast is excellent as well.
Well situated to all the shops and restaurants etc.
Nothing everything was good
Lovely rooms, Pub has a really great vibe and food was great!
We had a lovely meal, one of their roasts, we were sat in a gorgeous room which was spacious, we were served by a lovely young lady called Poppy who was very friendly and answered all our questions. The roast was delicious as was the pudding. It was a great atmosphere in there, everyone was welcoming. Will definitely go again! Thanks all especially Poppy!
Second time visiting here and won't be my last. The food is amazing and so tasty, the staff are lovely and welcoming and it has a lovely atmosphere. Looking forward to visiting again soon
Our room was very comfortable, nicely decorated. The bathroom was spacious, bed and linen perfect. Nice large windows, with a great view, curtains easy to close and open. Very quiet during the night. It was a clean room, clean, big towels, everywhere was spotless. Breakfast was excellent, and staff very friendly. I would happily recommend the place.
Personally, I don't like the modern type of toilet flush buttons, but this is a small fault, more of a preference.
Had a lovely meal at the Chalkehare, was served by Maisie who was very friendly, helpful and attentive. We will be back.
4 Adults for a meal, Very busy great vibe, Good selection of beer and wines. lovely decor and garden. service was impeccable especially our waitress Maisie. she was very attentive, polite and friendly. All meals came correct and in a timely fashion. Thanks to the whole team, see you all very soon. Recommended.
Wonderful meal, delicious food beautifully presented by professional and attentive staff, special mention to Rachel and Jannah. We will be back soon.
I have now visited 3 times as different friends wanted to give this recently reopened place a try. 2 breakfasts, I had shakshuka both times. The 2nd time it had obviously been kept under a heat lamp as the eggs were hard and it had a dried out appearance. Full English not hot according to friend. Scrambled eggs dry. Pot of tea only half full both times. Lunch was moules mariniere, tasty but lukewarm. Mentioned to staff who said they would tell chef. We(4 of us) had lots of negative comments yesterday which we were told would be passed to management. Service is very good, lots of staff around. Decor very nice but I won’t be going back to eat.
The hotel is located in the centre of Royston close to all the shops and facilities. The room was superb and very comfortable. All of the staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Breakfast was excellent, and we were looked after by Karen, who was both friendly and very efficient. Thank you
Great staff.
Wonderful decor.
After the name change, we decided to visit ChalkHare on Sunday. We were greeted at the door by Dale, who kindly managed to find us a table even though we hadn’t made a booking. He was extremely polite, welcoming, and accommodating. Once he found us a table, he showed us to our seats. The waitress who looked after us, I believe her name was Angela, was equally wonderful—very friendly, attentive, and professional throughout our visit. It is fantastic to see how much this place has changed. The atmosphere was busy and vibrant, which is always a great sign. Next time, we will definitely make a reservation in advance because of how popular it was. Thank you to Dale, Angela, and the whole team for making our visit such an enjoyable experience. We look forward to returning soon.
We stayed overnight whilst visiting family in Royston. The beer was great, dinner and breakfast - cooked to order - were just amazing and newly refurbed bedroom was perfect. Really good service from enthusiastic and friendly staff - a superb team! We can’t wait to return.
Popped in for a drink with the dogs and I was really impressed. The staff were so friendly, and the refurb is excellent. We will be back for food soon
A beautiful spring day, so we chose to have breakfast on the patio. The whole building - downstairs at least - has been revamped and looks much smarter than it did when this was The Banyers. The terrace was a delight too and we awaited two cooked breakfasts. Service was very charming and helpful and we very much enjoyed our full English, which was appealingly arranged on the plate, and jolly tasty. They even kindly gave us two extra sausages each because we didn’t want beans and black pudding. Decent coffee and green tea to accompany it. The bill was not the cheapest I’ve ever paid, but I’d say it was commensurate with the food and service we enjoyed. The patio seems to be a very promising place for summer dining al fresco as it would get the early evening sunshine. Well done that hare! 🐇
We visited as a group of ten for Sunday lunch to celebrate my mother's 93rd birthday. We arrived early and was told our table was ready. Staff were very friendly, and took our orders in good time. When food arrived there was a missing Ceaser Salad, and we were told our roast beef came with cauliflower cheese, it didn't so both items had to be re ordered. They were delivered to the table quickly though. My granddaughter found a hair (not hers) on her pizza, again it was delt with in a professional manor, and she was served a new pizza quickly. The rest of the party enjoyed the food, but all agreed it wasn't really served hot enough. I'd dropped a cake in earlier that day for my mother, and when I asked for it to be brought to the table, was told they couldn't find it. Thankfully they did find it and several members of staff helped us sing happy birthday, which was nice. I was going to give fewer stars but gave three as although food wasn't very hot it was good, and the other problems we experienced were all delt with in a professional way.
I understand they only re-opened a few weeks ago, but I was disappointed with the service. They seemed confused by the fact that I had a booking. It took 3 different requests to get my friend a drink as they had run out of some soft drinks. We ordered and then it was c. 15 min before they came to say they had run out of one of our mains and we had to choose again. We saw another couple who arrived after us get their food before. All the staff seemed confused whenever they tried to serve the food, not seeming to know which table had ordered what. The food quality wasn’t outstanding but it was perfectly pleasant. It has the potential to be great but definitely still needs some work!
Relaxed and comfortable
Overall we had a good experience, with good food well prepared and presented. Our waitress Olivia was excellent. It was our first visit under the new name/management and we found the atmosphere very welcoming and friendly. The new decor and furnishing brought a much softer ambiance. The menu was varied and appealing and well priced for the quality. A couple of negatives that could be ironed out; no light in one ladies loo cubicle, quite a long wait for meal and some drinks. We were charged for 2 glasses of wine we didn’t have but this was rectified when we pointed it out. It did make us late moving our car from their car park (there is a 3 hour limit).
We had a surprise birthday celebration for our daughter. On entering, the manager was on meet and greet and couldn’t be more helpful, we were taken to our table and drinks ordered. Perfect! Party of 7, 4 adults and 3 kids. Service was faultless, food was fantastic, served by Shelly who was very attentive and entertained the children. Roast beef Sunday lunch beautifully cooked. Two of us stayed overnight and had an anti-pasta sharer for supper as we were still stuffed. Bedrooms are newly refurbished and beautifully done. Great breakfast choices. Great meals, great staff and great stay and we look forward to going back.
Breakfast was great . Dinner as average as the pie was rock hard and the only thing that was as hot on my plate was. Our second room was comfy but a bit too stuffy .
The first room no 5 was very noisy due to kitchen vents on the roof outside. I had to send my dinner back as it was actually cold ( except for the pie which was grossly over heated and rock hard )
Sehr schönes Haus mit super gutem Essen (Frühstück und Abendessen), sehr gute Qualität, große Auswahl, keine Wünsche blieben offen. Parkplatz direkt vor dem Hotel, schönes Ambiente
nichts
The room was decorated lovely, the food was beautiful, both dinner and breakfast, and i loved the old building. Location was great for what i needed.
The room was very noisy at nighttime, im not sure if i stayed in a room next to a staff room, but there was doors banging and clattering late into the night, i assumed it was night staff, which kept me awake during the night, so it wasn't my best nights sleep.
The food was excellent, staff very friendly
Very noisy room , unfortunately over looking busy road , definitely overpriced for a deluxe room as didn’t meet those standards, very cold bathroom as very large (but nice )so needed heating for towels , had a nice mirror with lights but didn’t work!
It was Christmas and was all I needed.
The toilet didnt flush properly at all
The cleanliness of the hotel & its friendly staff
The location was perfect with the addition of a car park.
Some areas of the room were very dusty/dirty for example behind the side table (where I went to plug my phone it), the velvet curtains looked very dirty and the corners of the room. It could do with a deep clean. There was also an unpleasant odour in the hallway between the reception and first floor. I was disappointed with the cleanliness.
Food was good
Room was vert tired, which was disappointing
I liked the night watchman: He prepared an early morning continental breakfast with a lovely warm croissant and was very helpful. Thanks !
The room was cold !
Excellent breakfast. Really added to the value for money. Very comfy bed.
Toilet flush didn’t seem to be working properly.
Friendly staff. The breakfast was 10 out of 10. Comfortable bed.
Nothing
Staff lovely, breakfast good, location good
Absolutely filthy dirty room, pills, fluff and hair under bed, dust was everywhere as were cobwebs. Tv only had 3 channels BBC 1 no volume, bathroom blind permanently down as all air con until outside window which hummed day and night. No shower gel.
Good location. Good breakfast. Had a good night sleep
Would’ve liked Marmalade or jam with toast but a small thing, the breakfast, tea and coffee very nice
Good location, nice food
The room wasn’t very clean but they gave us a discount on check out
Staff, food and room were all great!
On a main road so a little noisy
Location, breakfast, size of room
Very tired. Locks on door extremely inadequate, significant cobwebs, lumpy mattress
Close to town across from the old church. The breakfast included was excellent.
Delightful staff who could not do enough to make our stay comfortable. Very flexible menu and eating times. Ordered a special menu for our breakfast. Perfect! Strongly recommended.
Breakfast was good, the room was spacious good location for a wedding at South Farm bed was reasonable comfortable and plenty of coffee and tea in the room
The bathroom has black mould around the shower I know it happens and builds up but it could do with sorting. A shower curtain was used as a curtain in the bathroom and the room generally seemed run down considering we paid quite a lot of money it was disappointing
The staff were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble.
Nothing
The breakfast was delicious, and the location was great.
The staff were not great, no one told us any information when we checked in, at breakfast no one said what was or wasn’t included with our stay, we asked for things several times before they arrived at our table. The place was also just quite tired, lots of peeling pain in the bathroom and the place looked like it needed a spruce up and a deep clean.
Lovely old property and great location
Slight road noise I
Room maintenance haphazard. Meal service slow .staff clearly not properly ttained or supervised
The breakfast is just fantastic. The team is incredibly friendly and very helpful.
The room is very old and had a clothes moths infestation. The team took care of the wool blanket (culprit), however nothing was offered.
Sadly, everything was very unpleasant: the room, reception, dining area, bathroom, outside area.
Filthy room. The room had not been cleaned since the last occupant yet we were pointedly told that housekeeping had "blitzed it" when eventually a lady came to reception. No alternate room was available. The bedsheets were unchanged with body hair, body fluid and food in. Bathroom had faeces in. Shower had blood and faeces in. Half a toilet roll. Surfaces dusty. Carpet filthy. Bathrobes had body hair and stains on. 2 hangers for 2 people. Fingerprints and dirt on mirrors. Towels stained and faeces on. Nobody on reception. Then told no housekeeping available to sort. No apology, just whispering comments. Breakfast glass with earwig in. Tampon in bin. Breakfast cold and took half an hour to arrive. No welcome and found our own table. Table filthy and food all over floor, eg. stale bread and old meat. All public areas were unhoovered and stained. Considering the building was renovated in 2016 it appeared that no maintenance had been done. Paint uncared for and next door bedroom looked as if lock had been forced. All staff look deflated and unhappy with no direction or apparent manager. The worst hotel we have stayed in. £130 paid for no sleep and upset stomachs afterwards.
Staff were very friendly. Location was great, close to station and across from picturesque church.
Cleanliness of the room wasn't good: coffee machine full of old pods, bits all over the carpet, one of the dressing gowns had been used. The bedding was poor quality, the old bobbled duvet was hanging out of the duvet cover by the morning which wasn't nice to wake up to. Breakfast was lovely, but the dining room wasn't clean: bits all over the chairs, food on the floor from previous night. Finally, the online check in/check out was a bit bizarre considering it's a small hotel. For £280 I expected a lot more.
Nice place. Food was good also. Staff friendly. Stayed in room 4. Not a lot of choice on the TV so went to a couple of pubs in the area. Ate in the hotel and food was lovely. Breakfast was also good.
We stayed here last year but just for one night and thought it was fine. We stayed three nights this time and the cracks were obvious. First time, we were shown to our room. This time, find it yourself and no offer of help with luggage. We made coffee and left it, thinking it was just our aversion to the little tubs of milk, so bought ourselves some fresh milk. It went off in 36 hours. So we used the little tubs again and left the drinks and went to Costa. Our room was not serviced after our first night. My husband managed to get tea and coffee replaced. The cleaning when it was done was not great. The mugs and glasses and our one teaspoon were left dirty and stained. The sink had tidemarks where the hand wash bottle had stood. The little tubs of milk, replaced when the room was serviced, were palatable so I think our room had not been used for a while and they had gone out of date. The sugar was also solid in the paper tubes. Our first night, we decided to try out the restaurant. We were shown in. Then moved out because of our dog with relish! No apology for being put there in the first place. We chose our food and my husband went to the bar to order. The only decent ale was off. I suggested we eat elsewhere, which we did. For £660 room only, we would have expected better service and cleanliness. I doubt we shall be making a third visit.
Hotel lovely, rooms a good size
Welcome could have been better did feel like we were an inconvenience. 1st breakfast service a bit weird. Air con not cold enough.
Great place to stay, fantastic location, excellent room, excellent restaurant serving excellent food supported by really helpful and friendly staff. We will definitely be staying here again.
Nothing at all.
Good size well equipped room, excellent breakfast
The hotel downstairs was lovely, the staff were great, friendly and always on hand The room had good facilities, ironing board, iron coffee and tea making facilities
On first look, our room was lovely, but there seemed to be a few issues, dirty toilet, one wall had some flaking paint and the floor was very uneven and i stumbled a few times because of the unevenness due to the carpet
The rooms were very clean, lovely bathroom and enjoyed the coffee and biscuits available in the rooms. Great breakfast and friendly staff. Would stay again if were in the area
Nothing was wrong with this hotel although our room faced the main road and above the beer cellar so was a little noisier than expected.
