We spent two days at this wonderful accommodation last June, and I can only say that the owners are delightful. They offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere, are helpful, kind, sweet, and always have a smile on their face. You can rent a scooter very cheaply right here, so the location isn't a problem at all. On the contrary, the place is surrounded by lush fields and rice paddies, making it very peaceful. Thank you, Modisha and Nishant, we'll be back someday!
If you’re heading to Mirissa and want a place that feels more like staying with family than just another guest house, Bakery Family Guest House is an absolute gem. From the moment you arrive, the host makes you feel genuinely welcome—warm, kind, and always going the extra mile to make sure everything is perfect. It’s that rare kind of hospitality you don’t forget. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and have everything you need to relax after a day of beach-hopping or whale watching. There’s a lovely, laid-back atmosphere throughout the property that just makes it easy to unwind. What really sets this place apart is the personal touch—the little things, like helpful local tips, a friendly chat, or making sure you’re completely taken care of. You can tell they truly care about their guests. Location-wise, it’s ideal—close enough to all the action in Mirissa, but still peaceful enough to get a great night’s sleep. If you’re looking for authentic Sri Lankan hospitality with an awesome host and a relaxed vibe, this place absolutely delivers. Would 100% stay again.
It was hot weather by Sri Lanka standard maybe 3-4 degrees above normal. We felt the room was hot during the night so I would suggest to ask for extra peddle stood fan for extra cooling.
Amazing family, so nice and made me feel at home! The room was very clean and comfortable with a cute hammock watching the plants in the garden. Very nice place in a quiet rural area, 10 minutes walking on a very beautiful road from the Main Street.
On a passé un super séjour ici, hôte adorable, chambres spacieuses, petit déjeuner délicieux, tout était parfait ! On recommande, qualité-prix au top !
Rien
This was our favourite place we stayed in the whole of Sri Lanka and the last place we stayed. I can’t thank Modisha and her husband enough for how well they looked after us! We felt so safe and like we could ask for anything, they always helped us with getting tuktuks and had bottled water for us. We had an amazing breakfast everyday which they baked fresh every morning and gorgeous fruit and coffee. We also got our laundry done which was folded ready for us the next day. Would come back here if I came back to Sri Lanka and recommend it 100% to anyone visiting mirissa!
The only tiny downside was there was no air conditioning and it was very hot when we stayed, but there is a fan! :)

The owners, my gosh just the sweetest. They tried to accommodate my breakfast (vegan) and asked what I’d like. The fresh bread dipped in the Dahl was lovely. They rent scooters here (I didn’t know and had booked in town, but this would have been easier). But seriously, the family here are just lovely, and kind, and will chat with you and get to know you, and gahhh one of my favourite stays in Sri Lanka. Good wifi, good shower pressure, good pillows.
My onlyyyy critique is the mattress is not super comfy, and makes a lot of noise when you move on it.
Muy buena ubicación ,trato familiar ,buenas instalaciones y desayuno . Totalmente recomendable !

We had such a great experience at this guest house that we decided to extend our stay for three more days! The location is perfect, especially if you have a scooter (which they conveniently rent on-site). The place is incredibly cozy and comfortable we had a very large, super comfortable bed and a lovely hammock outside our room where we could relax. The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our stay. We truly felt welcome and at home here. Highly recommended!
The only small suggestion I would make is to add a bit more variety to the breakfast. Everything was good, but having a few more options would make the experience even better.
I had a beautiful stay at Bakery Family Guest House. It felt so homely and peaceful, right in the middle of the paddy fields, yet still close to great food spots and the main road. The hosts were incredibly kind, very knowledgeable about local activities, and happy to accommodate last-minute requests. The place felt very safe, clean, and well cared for. I’m definitely coming back here the next time I visit Mirissa!
The location in quiet countryside, near paddy fields but also walking distance to Mirissa beach. The lovely staff always smiling and willing to help. Great breakfasts included in price. Cheap scooter hire. Very relaxing.
We are nervous around dogs but the dogs were friendly and most guests liked them.

A little paradise, away from the noisy main street. The Guesthouse have a nice garden and is surrounded by nature and rice fields. I loved that each room have a hamnock in front. It felt like home there because of the familiar atmosphere, the owners are very lovely persons, especially Modischa ❤️ I was sad that I had to move on after 2 nights. Thank you for the lovely time 🙏
Scooter Verleih, tuktuk Service, Laundry. Frühstück Obst, Lage/Tee, Omelett, Tost, Marmelade. Mit Scooter 5 min.
Gibt's nichts
The hosts were so helpful and hospital. I got sick very badly and they helped me a lot, got me to the hospital and make sure that I has enough water&food. Also the rooms are really nice and clean. They helped us so much more that we was expecting and it felt like home.
The most welcoming family, very nice rooms și terrace, very good food, very good value for money
It was PERFECT
This was without a doubt the warmest hospitality we experienced during our whole trip. The hosts are truly the kindest people and made us feel at home right away. Breakfast was excellent, with freshly baked homemade bread that was absolutely delicious. The accommodation itself is spotless, beautifully renovated, and very comfortable. We especially appreciated the high-quality mosquito net, which made sleeping very pleasant. The location is perfect – outside the busy center of Mirissa, yet still within walking distance of restaurants and the beach, and only a 5-minute drive from the train station.
Nada
They are sp helpful and friendly im using wheelchair and they did perfect my trip 🥲💐 thank you so much for everything 🤗 modisha she is my friend anymore I hope I can come again I love you beautiful family 💟
The location is walking distance to the beach (15 minutes) and also isolated perfectly in the quiet jungle from the main area of Mirissa. The owners of the bakery are delightful and accommodating to needs with quick response, they also run an operational bakery from the guest house which is a delicious start to the day! I will return there when I go back to Sri Lanka.
As has been mentioned by numerous previous reviewers, the whole family are some of the nicest people you could wish to meet and nothing was too much trouble for them. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay here, which we did extend slightly and were sorry to leave this morning. We are already missing the fresh home made bread they provided as part of the breakfast each morning. This accommodation is the type of accommodation you would be happy to spend time at even if the weather was not too good. Some of the rooms have a small balcony area outside overlooking a garden setting each, with a hammock outside which I thought was a nice touch. The accommodation is perfectly adequate and comfortable for the price bracket. Do not hesitate to book you won't regret it.
Nothing
Bakery family is super nice and helpful. We loved the hospitality with heart. We felt like a family member. When we came we got good homemade snack and tea. We rented a scooter at their place for a really good price. For breakfast we got their fresh baked bread every day and fresh fruit salad and other things. The location was calm, little out of loud and touristic road, which we liked, so we could get a good night sleep. It is a really good place for this price. We recommend highly.
Nothing really bothered us.
Bakery Family guesthouse is one of the best places to stay in Mirissa. Modisha, Nishente, and the kids are very caring and welcoming. The breakfast is made with love, especially the homemade bread from their bakery. Prices are very reasonable and the rooms are well equipped, surrounded by different kinds of fruit trees and a calm chilling area. A shared kitchen is also available for the guests. Bike rental is very reasonable in the guesthouse. The guesthouse is 3/5 min away by bike from the beach and touristic area. We are definitely coming back ☺️ Istuti 🙏🏽
The room was very small. Early on, scooters started driving behind the fence and it was noisy. The host was kind and friendly, the breakfast was very tasty.
We had a lovely stay at this guesthouse, it’s a bit out of town which is nice as you can get away from the noise and traffic of Mirissa, you are surrounded by nature and can really relax. We felt so welcomed and at home here, it’s was one of our favourite stays in Sri Lanka. The breakfast is yummy and our bed was very big and comfortable. The best thing though was the kindness of the family providing the guesthouse, they truly couldn’t do enough to help us. We will be back!!
Nothing - even without AC the rooms were cool and we slept really well.
Very friendly place. Owners are the most kind persons i met in SL. Good situation close to all activities and distant to noise. Modisha and husband give you good advices for excursions ,safari ,surf lessons ect Ok to rent scooter on site. Laundry ,kitchen ok The breakfast in Bakery house is very good too,you take it with the birds !!!!!! Ty for all see you.
Owners were the nicest people ever, they were so helpful and welcoming<3 they arranged pick up for us on the airport and as well transport to Ella. Definitely 11 out of 10 :-)
What made this place so special were the hosts they were so very kind and helpful looked after me when I hurt my wrist very clean and a fantastic breakfast Nona just wanted to please you
Nothing
The owners were incredibly welcoming and truly made us feel at home. The breakfasts were amazing—fresh bread from their bakery every morning, along with a fruits and omelette. When I mentioned that I love ginger, Modisha even bought me some ginger cookies to try, which was such a special touch. The guest house was very clean, and the atmosphere was peaceful, which we really appreciated. They also offer laundry services and bike rental. As for the minor downsides, there is no hot water, and we did notice a few ants in the bathroom, but it didn’t bother us at all. It’s a bit further from the center, but the quiet surroundings make up for it. Overall, we were really happy with our stay and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Mirissa.
the family was very, very nice and friendly. the rooms are great for the price. you woke up with a view of the rice fields. the breakfast was also good. if you want you can also order rice and curry. the family always took the guests into consideration when cleaning the garden in the morning. that was very pleasant. thank you Ishani and family for the hospitality. p.s. the bread (achu pan) that was made in the bakery was the best I ate in Sri Lanka.🙏❤
My wife and I arrived late in the evening tired, we were given a snack with tea. Modisha and her family are very hospitable. The main value is the relationship between people. All family is great! The price and quality of the accommodation is good. The family always participated in solving the necessary issues. Breakfast was included: their own bread, jam, butter, tea or coffee, fried eggs, fruit salad. There was enough of everything. We also bought dinner from the family, it was excellent. There was one kitchen for all the rooms. There is a fan in the room for cooling, it was enough for us. There is a mosquito net on the bed, but the mosquitoes did not attack. The disadvantages in our case were not very significant.
As in many places there was no hot water, but we were comfortable without it. Since the accommodation is near the road, sometimes at 6 am it is noisy. And these are small negatives. There are no other negative aspects.
The family running the guest house were so welcoming and friendly. Helpful with anything you need. We enjoyed the breakfast of homemade bread items and yummy fruit salad. The guesthouse is away from the busy tourist area and has a nice garden area to relax in opposite the rice paddy fields. There are peacocks and many other birds around…we even spotted a bird of paradise. Within walking distance to other shops and restaurants. A little far from the beach but we had our own tuk tuk and the guesthouse has bikes and scooters to rent.
The bed was large but very hard. The bathroom very basic…no hot water but you get used to it. Although off the beaten track the road is still quite noisy and the sounds of nature can keep you awake. Bring earplugs.
To stay with the family of the bakery guest house was our highlight of Mirissa. I highly recommend everyone, to stay there. The location within the rice fields is beautiful and I was happy, we didn't stay in Mirissa center. Modisha is a lovely lady and so the whole family.
Nothing to complain.
We liked the hospitality and the great breakfast :-)
It was a little bit noisy in the night and the bed was a little bit too hard.
Such a lovely place! The owners are the friendliest people you can imagine and they will do everything to make you feel at home. The breakfast is wonderful and the location is perfect, nice and quite, but still close to the main road and beach. We definitely recommend this place!
Really nice, quiet location next to rice fields away from the busy centre. We felt very much at home here and felt very welcomed by the lovely family. The breakfast was the best we've had the Sri Lanka.....their bakery bread is so tasty and it's worth staying here just for that! We rented a scooter here and it was much cheaper than other places. We also became really fond of Mango the dog who would sleep outside our room :-)
We stayed in one of he older rooms and although ok for the price the bed wasn't so comfortable. We missed having a hammock or views of the rice fields like the other rooms. Only slight negatives though as we enjoyed our stay.
I loved this very friendly guesthouse back away from the busy beachside, tucked into a local area an easy 20 minute walk from beaches and restaurants. The rooms were a good size, comfortable with front patios looking out to green fields and the occasional peacock, with plentiful sounds of birds and friendly dogs. Breakfast was also very good.
All was great
Stayed here for 8 days and wish we had booked longer. Great location around nature, the family were so sweet and really looked after us. Very convenient bike hire which made it very easy to explore the area. Room was very comfortable and breakfast was delicious ( their home made bread was the best we had in Sri Lanka) Loved seeing the monkeys , peacocks , chipmunks and bird life while eating breakfast ! Not to forget Mango the dog who was very friendly !
Everything was perfect
The staff is adorable, we had such a wonderful time. They were so welcoming and fun, they make this place a home for everyone. The rooms have everything you need and the area is very peaceful!
The guesthouse is just in between the rice paddys, it is really quite and during the night you can hear the frogs and see fireflies everywhere. The room was very tidy and clean and there is everything you need. There even is a closet and you get a towel. First I booked 2 nights and I ended up staying for a week, because it was so nice to have a break from the loud, touristy areas. After a week I felt like part of the family, because Modisha and her Husband were so welcoming and friendly they even invited me to have dinner with them. There is a kitchen you can use and also the washing machine is free of charge.
Without a scooter it’s a little walk to the beach, but worth it when you search for a quite place that you can have for your own.
Good bed, good pillow. It was like countryside, which I like. Family were super nice. Breakfast included, Omelet, fruits and fresh bread. Family gave good advices for my next trip and gave me a ride with tuk tuk to the bus stop next morning where I continued my trip. There is a little market and kiosks when you start to walk to the left, I bought from there SIM card very reasonable price.
It was a little bit far away from the beach, but it was walkable. There is lot of tuk tuks driving along that road, so you can catch tuk tuk if you cannot walk. At that time, I was only guest, so I felt little bit lonely first night. Mom said I can call to her if I need company and she can come to talk with me if needed, that was super-nice.
Super nice family, very welcoming and helpful! I can highly recommend staying at this lovely place.
A bit outside of the main area but not far by bike or tuktuk
The owners are absolutely wonderful. I booked for 7 days and ended up staying 14. I had a desk overlooking the rice fields, palm trees and their other tropical plants. There is a table and chairs to sit and watch nature on your doorstep. It’s quiet. Just the sound of crickets. The rooms are big with a large comfortable bed and clean mattress. A wardrobe and rack for clothes. The shower room is huge. The owners gave me a kettle. And extra table and chairs. They run a bakery from home and showed me the oven and bread making facilities. The kindness of this family shows the spirit of Sri Lanka at its best. Warm hearted, generous, genuine, welcoming. The best place I stayed in Sri Lanka. The location is superb. Away from the noise of town but close enough to get there in 10 mins by foot. And loads of tuk tuks at all times if needed. A few little local shops next door for basic needs.
Most amazing host I had ever seen! They are a lovely family with a traditional wooden bakery business, I also got to taste the freshly baked bread, that was FANTASTIC! They provided passion fruit juice, lifted me to the beaches and I felt almost like a family member! Bakery family guest house, you surely want to choose them if you’re visiting Mirrisa!
Modisha, her husband and kids were the best hosts we ever had. We arrived in the heaviest rain on very short notice. They took us in, helped to carry the bags, prepared the room, put sheets on the bed and gave us everything we asked for (including homegrown, bananas, and bread). We got freshly baked bread, coffee and tea whenever we asked for it. Even at night when we had a small problem we texted them on WhatsApp and they came to our door to look for us and help us. In the price of very nice breakfast is included with freshly made omelette by Modisha, fresh bread, jam and butter, fruit, and tea. They showed us the bakery where they produce their own bread to sell and even let us watch and help which was a lot of fun. We loved having a chat with them. The kids were very polite. Although we didn‘t need it, there was a big kitchen to use. The house is a 4 minute drive from the nice beach and supermarkets and restaurants are also nearby.
Attentive and sensitive approach to each guest from Nona and her husband. Attentive and sensitive approach to each guest from Nona and her husband. A perfect example of the price-quality ratio!
the refrigerator is not working properly
It literally is a guest house to fall in love with! I cannot say enough good things about the owners here! Madousha is an absolute sweetheart, always going above and beyond to ensure everything is perfect for your stay. She always has a smile on her face and served us tea and fruits in the afternoon. She also offered bike rentals for just 1000 rupees a day, the most affordable rate we came across. We absolutely loved the vibe of this place and cannot wait to return for a second time!
I really loved my stay in this cute Guest House with this lovely family! The Guest House is out in the rice fields, so it’s quiet. enjoyed my mornings in the hammock with a nice view and a delicious breakfast with home made bread. I was even able to sneak into their bakery - thank you so much! 🥰
Nice family ,they help if you need and they gave me some of the bakery they made to try it very nice.
For this price you just can't ask for more. Good 4 poster bed with great mosquito net. Clean and quiet. The included breakfast was surprisingly good and the staff is friendly and caring
The location, a bit outside town, won't suit everyone but for me was perfect
This was one of the best places we stayed in Sri Lanka. The hosts are so friendly and kind. You get to have fresh bread every morning with a delicious breakfast! It is also child friendly. The area is quiet next to rice fields, away from the noisy streets. Thank you for everything, we enjoyed our stay.
The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. The room on number 2 was better that number 6. The room was bright, bed had net which protected us from insects. Breakfast was super tasty, we had many bakeries. Friendly pets.
First room where we stayed, had red wooden floor and noisy fan, small shower room, and a lot of mosquitoes. Then we asked to change our room, happily the next one was 10 times better.
Really familiar and attention. Location a bit outside the chaos. Relax.
AC is not installed. A bit to hot inside.
Its really nice cause its near the nature n out of noise also good value of money & the Family was very friendly & super nice.
When i was there the electricity was off For awhile so i hv to wait until it On at night to go in & theres no warm Shower.
The Bakery Family Guest house is perfect if you’re looking to get away from the noise of central Mirissa. While it’s only a 20-25min walk or 5-min scooter ride, you will find yourself in the middle of the rice fields. So quiet, so green. You will wake up with the birds singing in the morning. Rooms are spacious, with basic furniture but just enough for you to unpack all your belongings. Shower is cold but to be honest, in this region, with the heat, it is actually very welcome and refreshing at the end of the day. You have access to a nice little kitchen if you want to cook. You can rent a scooter or a bicycle directly from the guesthouse and if you’re not up for it, they are always tuktuk passing by on the road. Vincente and Noona the owners are always super helpful and will make your stay unforgettable. For breakfast, you will have the opportunity to taste Vicente home bread and some sweet buns that he also makes while Noona will prepare an omelet and a fresh fruit salad. The best way to start the day! I found a family here at the bakery and I will miss everyone.
Wonderful guesthouse with a pretty cool view. The family let us rent a bike for 1000lkr a day. Breakfast was amazing and the rooms ar clean and have a vent for cooling. The host drove us with his tuktuk to the bus station in mirissa after we checked out for free. Its clearly a 10/10 when you look at the price.
A really lovely warm friendly family
the bed sheet kept rising, so was too small for the size of the mattress. The place is a bakery but I think what would help is a wider range of food for breakfast. Eggs perhaps to go with the bread.
The owners and the location.
The shower and cold water.
Super friendly family who always made sure I was comfortable. Great breakfast and a quiet location with a 10min walk to the beach and main road. I thought the place was new due to lack of reviews but there are other guests there for sure, most of them book through airbnb. Rooms were clean with fan, mosquito net and bathroom.
Nothing to add here
So hear me out, I have been in Sri Lanka for a month between hostels, cheap hotels and guesthouses and let me say that Bakery Family Guesthouse is the best on them it’s just in the top of my list, no honestly it’s and let me tell you why. First of all its new building with new furniture, the bed equipped with mosquito nets, there’s a table and wardrobe. The food is totally delicious and a lot. The owners are so sweet, they will ask you more than once to assure that you have everything you need.
The only thing is that the guesthouse is 1.3 KM from the main street that means 15 minutes walking BUT if you have a motorcycle, bike or like to walk I highly recommend you to go to Bakery Family guesthouse.
Environment, Location and the staff who were very happy to meet our needs during the stay.
Soap holders in the shower would be nice.
