Goed hotel met fijne atmosfeer. Erg behulpzame mensen, bijvoorbeeld met vervoer naar Weligama zelf en tips voor restaurants. Ze deden echt hun best ons een fijne tijd te bezorgen. Beste ontbijt van onze hele Sri Lanka reis

Aan zee, maar de zee was te ruig voor ons om echt in te kunnen. Voor een beginners surfles moesten we naar Weligama beach. Daar heb je dan vervoer voor nodig

Loves this place, felt like hone from the start. Food is delicious, tried Sri Lankan curry, and that was up there with the best curry ive ever had. Close to the beach and not far from shops etc. Only stayed one night but will return in future.A⭐️

Staff was excellent and so hospitable. Everyone full of smiles, and responsive even after our stay (we had a package arrive at the hotel late). Food was absolutely excellent, albeit a bit pricey. But the convenience of having all 3 meals available right outside your room was amazing. The location next to the Coconuts beach was also really nice with fantastic sunset. They even have events, like a weekly barbecue, and almost daily movie nights. If there are nearby events (there was a nearby baby turtle release, for example), the staff will also let you know so you don't miss it. They seem to really care about you having a good time! The field of cows in front was also nice to see every day. This is just a fantastic place to chill and enjoy good vibes. The shower was spacious and clean, and they have a nice area in front of the pool to hose down your body for a quick rinse. We also got surf lessons from Lucky, and it made a huge difference in being able to stand on our surf boards from the get-go. Lucky also isn't a greedy man - he'll recommend not doing a lesson if the waves aren't great. There are 3 time-slots everyday when he gives lessons, and he's quite flexible about scheduling these things even on the day-of. I would definitely stay here again next time!

It's not so easy to use PickMe from the place. You have to walk out to the main road and set our location there.

Incredibly friendly staff and managers Ayesh and Sunil went above and beyond to answer all our questions and provide solid recommendations. The property is well located near stretches of beach, cute cows in the grass area outside and tuk tuks at arms length. The breakfast was also delicious as well as the buffet dinner we had on Monday night - friends we also invited thoroughly enjoyed the food. They also gave an early birthday dessert platter for my husbands birthday in advance which was so kind.

Only provided body wash (no shampoo), but otherwise had all other facilities.

Perfekte Lage am Strand und phänomenale Sonnenuntergänge garantiert. Das surfen mit Lucky war eins der Highlights des Urlaubs. Der Service und das Essen (besonders der Curry-Abend) konnten vollends überzeugen. Ein klein wenig mehr Bepflanzung rings um den Pool und die Balkone würden das Hotel noch schöner machen.

I liked the location next to Coconut beach. Breakfasts are nice. Managers were super nice and caring. We liked the pool and play area.

Room was dark and smelled funny. Our room was next to kitchen, so that was a bit grumbling, lots of noises that I do not expect in a room with a little kid and with that kind of price. In two situations, the servers gave the impression that their lunch and well-being were more important than the guests'. In one situation, the floor of the room was not cleaned of broken glass within 1.5 hours. In another, the buffet platters were not refilled during breakfast, even though it was only 10:00. Overall, facility seemed worn and needs refreshment.

From the first moment, Ayesh and his entire team made us feel incredibly welcome – almost like part of the family. Whenever we needed help, whether with airline issues, organizing transport, booking activities or getting tips about the area, they were always there and happy to assist. A real highlight was the Fish BBQ evening. The food was sensationally good, very fresh and at around 4,000 LKR per person absolutely fair. The atmosphere was relaxed and social, with surfers, backpackers and families from all over the world sharing a great evening together. We also took surf lessons with Lucky – thank you Lucky and hang loose! 🤙 Right in front of the accommodation there is a great reef break for experienced surfers, and nearby you’ll find several beautiful small bays that are surprisingly uncrowded. Only around sunset do a few people gather there – and it’s definitely worth it. Getting around was super easy thanks to the tuk-tuks waiting right outside (special thanks to Kalana 🙏) who took us comfortably and safely to places like whale watching tours, Weligama or local restaurants. For us as a family of five this stay was simply wonderful. We would come back anytime and can highly recommend Lions Rest to anyone visiting this area.

Nous nous sommes sentis très bien accueillis dès notre arrivée et tout au long du séjour. Les petits déjeuners inclus sont copieux et très bons, avec des produits frais. Il est également possible de dîner sur place le soir, ce qui est très pratique et agréable après une journée de visite ou de plage. La chambre familiale était spacieuse, très propre et parfaitement adaptée à un séjour avec enfants. L’hôtel est clairement kid-friendly, ce qui est un vrai plus pour les familles. L’emplacement est idéal, à deux pas de Coconut Beach, parfaite pour profiter du coucher de soleil, de la plage et du calme. On peut facilement se déplacer en tuk-tuk pour explorer les alentours. Nous avons aussi organisé un cours de surf pour toute la famille avec Lucky, via l’hôtel — une superbe expérience ! Un excellent choix pour séjourner dans la région

Great location right on the beach and away from the road so it was quiet (apart from occasional dogs). Staff were lovely and great service. Brought drinks and snacks up to our balcony when we ordered at the bar. Room lovely. Private balcony was large with a great view. Bed comfortable and good shower. Breakfast was great. Water filter machine available free at all times. We hope to return!

Would have been nice to have fridge and tea making facilities in the room but the room was a bit small for that and there was access to a big communal fridge downstairs. Coffee wasn’t up to the standard of the rest of the breakfast.

Beautifully managed with attentive and knowledgeable staff. Room was immaculate and the cleaning products smell amazing. Breakfast was the best we have had so far on this trip. The place is peaceful and very close to the beach which was never crowded. Lots of nearby places to eat.

Lovely place in a perfect area, good mix between locals and touristy places, the staff was so helpful, we are 3 surfers and got so much help to find the perfect spot to surf during some tricky conditions with a lot of wind and rain, but the staff always tried to help us to find a spot to surf. Room was super clean and comfy. Good breakfast options. Definitely coming back. Thank you so much again!

We had the best four nights at Lion’s rest, it was the favourite part of our trip in Sri Lanka as it was really what we were looking for at the end of our two week visit. The staff at the Lion’s rest are exceptionally good. We were warmly welcomed by Sunil and Ayesh, and all the staff, we were totally looked after throughout the stay and made to feel really at home. As well as being in a peaceful village with quiet beaches and little natural swimming pool down the way, you can watch surfers with a beer on the beach or have some down time by the pool. A lovely family friendly resort, we enjoyed the quiet of the area while still having nice little restaurants, beach shacks and businesses around. I had such an excellent surf lesson with Lucky, incredibly experienced and a very safe pair of hands. You can also sign up for yoga classes at the hotel. You have Weligama a short tuk tuk away, as well as the train station or buses that can take you up the coast to Galle or south to Marissa. Our room and bathroom were so cosy, and very clean. We had a spacious bathroom, beach towels and a little deck outside of our room. Breakfast also delicious, many options, all superb.

Wonderful, peaceful place with the loveliest staff and Management in a beautiful, tranquil village. The restaurant serves delicious food. The internet connection is stable and very fast (for those who need to work). We stayed for 10 nights and would have loved to stay longer.

Sehr sauberes und gut ausgestattetes Hotel mit sehr gutem Frühstück! Zum Baden mit kleinen Kindern würden wir eher den Strand in Welligama empfehlen, da dieser flacher und das Meer dort etwas ruhiger ist.

Fantastische plek met super vriendelijk personeel. Als je Coconut point wilt surfen of als beginner lesjes wilt krijgen in Weligama, of gewoon wilt genieten van een heerlijke rustige plek met zwembad en heerlijke strandjes om de hoek, dan is dit dé plek. Niks op aan te merken. Wij zullen zeker terug komen!

I was at Lion's Rest at the end of October with my 11 years daughter. We just loved it! Ayesh, the manager, and the staff are wonderfully nice. The room was big and clean, and the hotel is very well located: in front of the ocean, with friendly dogs and cows to welcome us, not in Weligama downtown. There is a nice beach 5 minutes walking away. Food is very good, and you can play karom just besides the pool. We will definitly come back (probably next August :)).

Great location a short stroll across some grass to a great beach with turtles, fishermen on poles and beach. Great room with large beds and mozzie nets. Good pool. Staff were very good.

Pool possibly needs more seating when it’s busy. It wasn’t for us though so it was fine.

We had an amazing stay here. The rooms are very well equipped with AC, comfy beds and great shower. The swimming pool offers a great way to relax while enjoying sea views. And the best, the staff; they were super friendly with a great attention to detail and helping us with everything. I highly recommend this place. Its location is also great as its a bit outside the messy city centre of welligama but very easy to reach in tuk tuk, mororbike or car; it will take you less than 15 minutes:)

We had a warm welcome by Ayesh. The room was spacious and clean. Our kids enjoyed the pool, playing area and the beach. Great to have this all so close. Although we were there during low season, they did everything possible to make it to an enjoyable stay.

Prices were steep compared to the rest of Sri Lanka. The food could be better to what you expect of the level of this hotel.

Ayesh und sein Team haben unseren Aufenthalt wirklich perfekt gemacht. Sie standen uns bei allen Fragen jederzeit hilfsbereit zur Seite und haben uns großartig beraten. Auch der Nachtwächter ist ein unglaublich freundlicher Mensch, der uns in Erinnerung bleiben wird. Wir verbrachten wundervolle Tage im Lion’s Rest und können jedem nur empfehlen, das Frühstück gleich mitzubuchen – so startet man jeden Morgen mit einem köstlichen Genuss in den Tag. Alles im Haus ist sehr sauber und gepflegt, und das WLAN ist schlicht unschlagbar (absolut konstant ~130 + MBits.) Als besonderes Extra erhielten wir sogar ein Upgrade und durften das obere Zimmer mit Meerblick genießen – ein absoluter Traum! Beim nächsten Besuch werden wir dieses Zimmer direkt buchen, weil es einfach wunderschön ist.

Heerlijke plek voor een eerste stop. Wij waren in laag seizoen en daardoor hadden we alles voor onszelf. Eten is ok maar je echt goed restaurant op 100 meter. In laagseizoen gebeurt wel alles in Welligama stad. Kortom, wij raden dit aan.

Het warme welkom van de manager. Super aardig, behulpzaam en lief. Geeft uitkeg over faciliteiten en mogelijkheden zoals bijvoorbeeld een massage van de huismasseur. Kun je ook van te voren aanvragen, manager neemt via whatsapp ruim voordat je aankomt contact op. Let op, er is een mannelijke masseur voor uitsluitend mannen en een vrouwelijke masseuse voor uitsluitend vrouwen. Je kunt in het restaurantje alles krijgen tussen bepaalde tijden (ontbijt, lunch, diner) en de hele dag door koud water tappen.

Misschien de ligging. Wij waren er in augustus en dan zijn de golven bij dat strandje te gevaarlijk. Je moet best even in de tuk tuk om naar een surfstrandje te gaan. Maar tuk tuks staan voor de deur, alles zo geregeld.

We really enjoyed our stay at Lion's rest. The room was so spacious, the hotel was clean and beautiful but at the end what makes the experience memorable is the kindness and the helpfulness of the people who work there. We received tips and hidden gems where to go, didn't order dinner upfront (low season) but were still able to get dinner spontaniously, no problem at all. The people working there really doing the extra effort.

Since we were here in July, which is low season, you are not able to access the sea in front of the hotel. You are able to access the beach, but the sea is rough. This is not something to dislike, but you might want to know if you are going to book this amazing place. (There are pool clubs nearby where you can go for a swim / surf in the sea, just a little drive away.)

Lions rest was the most amazing stay for me and my family. The staff were all so so helpful, kind and accommodating and I request big or small was too much trouble for them. The room was clean, spacious, and the location is just amazing right next to the main surf breaks. Everyone made us feel truly welcome and a special note that my wife has got a gluten-free allergy so travelling can be difficult but again the management and catering team went above and beyond every day to make sure she had lovely food to eat throughout each day. Lion's Rest is an absolute gem. It made my trip to Gurubebila exeptional. The staff was friendly and attentive, they went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed. The grounds were very well taken care of. The room I stayed in was very comfortable and clean. The locations was perfect, right by the sea, surf, and close to restaurants. The breakfast was delicious, I love that the coffee, tea, fruit, and toast, was set out to self serve (then you get to order off the menu as well). Everything about Lion's Rest was very well thought out, I will return!

Fantastic location, in more chilled village a short Tuk Tuk ride away from the main hustle and bustle of Weligama. Staff super friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfast and dinners. Great for staying as a family with young children. Plenty of space to relax and for a crawling baby! Lovely pool. Rooms were spacious, cool and clean. We would have stayed longer if we could! We may return at the end of our trip!

Its in perfect location - best location to live in the area for calm holidays - intermediate surf spot (on the beach ask for surf instructor Freddy) ahead, yoga place nearby, nice cafes and restaurants around, best sunset area. Its also nice to have a cooled pool. The staff is also amazing - the manager can help with any issue as well as his crew. They also have tuktuk drivers (2 nice guys) in front of the hotel who are ready to go anytime. Very convenient place to stay. Lots of people with children.

Price is a bit too high. However, if you want to stay in this majestic area and have a pool there are not many options. It should be also noted that superior double room (the one with huge balcony and ocean-view) is not as private as it might look - common stairs separates the room and the balcony thus you might want to cover your windows (no view if so).

Quiet location away from weligama busy street. There’s also really nice natural pools round the corner. It’s like a secret small beach.

I spent 6 days at Lion's Rest at the end of our Sri Lanka trip with my two teenage sons. The place is cool. The room was quite small but big enough for the three of us. The bed was comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and there was a choice of both continental and local dishes. We had a great barbecue buffet at the place twice for a reasonable price. The boys also had a few tasty lunches. I recommend the food and the drinks. The place has a great surf instructor who helped me catch my first big waves. Every morning he took us in a tuk tuk with boards, which had a lot of charm. The area around Lion's Rest is homely. Right out of the gate you meet cows and you're just a few steps from a beautiful beach. You don't have to look for a trip to see turtles, because there are plenty of them on the ocean next to hotel. The center of Weligama is very close, and there is always a Tuk Tuk in front of the place to take you there. The staff was wonderful. They took great care to make sure that the stay at Lion's Rest was a success. In the evenings you can also watch surfing films on the projector what was real fun for us.

I paid for additional expenses - food, massage, drinks -with a payment card and I was charged a 3% transaction fee, you have to remember this to withdraw the money earlier, I was not warned that. The water in the pool has a lot of chemicals, thanks to this you won't catch a disease, but watch out for swimming shorts, my son had blue ones before entering and pale blue ones after leaving. There was no enclosed shower in our room, only a small shower tray almost at floor level, which is why after a bath in the bathroom there was water on the floor for a long time.

The manager and owner were extremely friendly and helpful. We did some Surf-lessons with Lucky and enjoyed them a lot. Breakfast was fantastic, the accomodation was beautiful, clean and cozy. Overall our best stay during our time in Sri Lanka - full recommendation!

The Lion’s Rest was a wonderful property. The room was lovely and the staff very welcoming particularly Ayesh. There’s surf breaks and turtles swimming in the ocean right in front of the property. Our only regret was that we didn’t stay longer.

The location was amazing with a mix of 'surf culture' and local every day life. It was truly relaxed and welcoming but not showy. The staff including Ayesh Prasad, Kalhara, Nuwan, Ramesh and Kalana the in house tuk tuk driver were very friendly, full of useful advice and ready to help. The Sri Lankan breakfast and the curry buffet were tremendous! We were only sad not to have been there for the fish bbq the day after we left.

We had a wonderful stay at Lions rest - the property was clean, well maintained and to a high standard. The staff were super welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. It’s really well located on the beach, near good restaurants bars and within a 10 min tuktuk of nearby towns. Lions Rest can arrange great surf lessons with Lucky and has a great restaurant on site, offering a weekly seafood bbq we would recommend Wouldn’t stay anywhere else on the South coast, recommend you book here for your next trip!

Ground floor room by the pool other guests were often using the chairs outside the room meant for the room so often had people sitting directly in front of the room window.

Location is amazing, very chilled area and good for surfing. The accommodation isn’t super modern but all the facilities make up for that and the vibe and atmosphere are so chilled. The breakfasts are amazing especially the Sri Lankan curry. Best spot to stay for surfing if you aren’t a beginner.

Beautiful, quiet and clean little hotel in a lovely small village. Perfect location, just in front of two great surf spots, tucked away from traffic noise, in a green and calm village. I could do my morning surf-checks from my balcony, and then stroll over a small green field with cows to jump into the waves - and wrap up my surf session with a cold coconut in one of the beach shacks - such a magical place! Lion's has a great breakfast selection with several options for both european and sri lankan breakfast, as well as a supertasty coconut oat bowl with fruits - perfect after your morning surf. They provide free refill of fresh water at the hotel. The restaurant offers lunch and dinner, and hosts weekly social dinners (seafood bbq, sri lankan food evenings). In general, the hotel had a very friendly and social surfwibe. The pool was beautiful and clean, with poolside sunbeds (with optional umbrellas for shade). There are also two other chill out zones with comfortable and social set up: hammocks, beanie bags and yoga supplies (mats, bolsters etc) and fans for comfortable temperatures. The hotel is less than 1 minute walk away from several daily yoga classes in a beautiful and peaceful shala with a mix of yoga styles, including evening yin / restorative classes. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and made me feel very welcome. My room was beautiful and clean, and as a womas travelling alone, I felt very safe in the hotel. Good wifi. Several beautiful "hidden" smaller beaches close by (walking along the shore). There are tuktuks with friendly and helpful drivers ready outside the hotel to transport you to other surf spots or to check out the busier wibes of Weligama and Ahangama. What more can I say about this amazing place? If you want a peaceful, beautiful, relaxing stay in a welcoming and friendly environment - book your stay at Lions Rest - you won't regret it!

I WAS TRAVELING WITH A GROUP OF FRIENDS ON A SURFING TRIP, THE LOCATION WAS CONVENIENTLY SITUATED CLOSE TO MANY GREAT POPULAR SURF SPOTS AND A FEW HIDDEN GEMS WHICH YOU WILL HAVE TO SEARCH FOR. THE HOTEL IS SITUATED IN A SMALL VILLAGE, WHICH IS VERY FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING, AND IN NO TIME AT ALL FRIENDSHIPS WERE MADE WITH BOTH LOCALS AND OTHER TOURISTS. THE HOTEL HAS A STRONG SURF CULTURE AND POST SURF A GREAT PLACE TO HANG OUT AND CHAT WITH OTHER GUESTS. THE BREAKFAST WAS VERY GOOD, AND ON CERTAIN NIGHTS A THEMED MEAL IS A OPTION, WE CHOOSE THE TRADITIONAL SRI LANKEN MEAL, WHICH WAS AMAZING. THE ROOMS WERE VERY SPACIOUS AND CLEAN, AND THE STAFF WERE SO FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. ALREADY PLANNING ON RETURNING AT EASTER WITH MY WIFE AND SON. The staff were so friendly, big comfortable room and it’s located right by a really nice beach. There one spot to swim but it’s mostly a surf break.

Location is great and the hotel is comfortable with good amenities. We had the hotel to ourselves so we enjoyed private movie screenings & the pool. Manager (forgetting his name) but was great helpful and communicative. Do ask him for recommendations for places to eat around and explore.

Well, we didn't find it worth the price. It was off-season and they were on a lean staff but still could've done better given we were the only guests in the their entire hotel. Breakfast options were limited and even after telling them that we were vegetarians well in advance, we expected better communication among the staff. but the kitchen & serving staff were a bit lax.

Nice rooms and great facilities, location is in a mini paradise away from any traffic next to the beach.

This place felt like home, amazing little oasis in a quiet location away from the busy streets nearby, The staff were all perfect, welcoming, accommodating and always smiling. Beautiful rooms with a private balcony looking over the ocean. Food was also unreal!!! We will be back

Beautiful little beach hotel with amazing, very helpful staff. Room was lovely with ocean view. The extra touches were noticed.

We stayed in quiet season and there was no yoga classes.
