Das Frühstück war sehr reichhaltig und ausserordentlich liebevoll zubereitet. Wir haben im Hotel selber drei Mal das Abendessen eingenommen. Der Koch ist ein wahrer Meister seines Faches - das beste Essen auf unserer Sri Lanka Reise! Die Bedienung ist äusserst freundlich und sehr fröhlich. Das Zimmer war sehr geräumig, und bei unserer Ankunft war das Bett liebevoll mit Blumenblüten und einer Handtuchdeko in Form eines Elefanten geschmückt. Das gesamte Personal gibt sich grosse Mühe, dass sich der Gast rundum wohl fühlt. Das Kolonialhaus mit wenigen Zimmern liegt inmitten eines wunderschönen Gartens mit Blick auf das Meer. Die Liegestühle waren sehr bequem und sauber. Die Lage ist ruhig und erholsam, aber doch nicht abgeschieden vom Dorf, das gut zu Fuss oder auch mit Tuktuk erreichbar ist. In der Umgebung gibt es viele Aktivitäten zu unternehmen. Ich würde mehr als zehn Punkte für diese Unterkunft verteilen!

Limited facilities and nearby options

Had an excellent stay at Sundara, albeit for just one night. We arrived around 6pm for our final stop before heading home, hoping for somewhere comfortable and good value to enjoy our last day before a late flight the following evening. Despite being fully booked the next day, the staff could not have been more accommodating. They offered us a late check-out and even the use of staff facilities to freshen up later in the day, which meant we could fully relax and enjoy our time. It was a really nice touch, and we continued to feel genuinely welcome even after checking out. The food was exceptional. On a trip defined by outstanding meals, Sundara still managed to stand out. The barramundi, in particular, was superb, easily one of the best fish dishes I’ve had, and good enough to order twice! The rooms were spacious and spotless, the staff charming throughout, and the beach pristine and blissfully quiet.

Besonders gut gefallen haben mir das sehr freundliche und zuvorkommende Personal, der wunderschöne Strand sowie die extrem saubere und gepflegte Anlage. Auch der Poolbereich ist sehr schön gestaltet und lädt zum Entspannen ein

Ein kleiner Kritikpunkt sind die Zimmer, die teilweise recht dunkel sind, da statt Fenstern dicke Holztüren vorhanden sind, die den Raum stark abdunkeln. Zudem ist das Haus insgesamt etwas hellhörig, und es kam vereinzelt zu Lärmbelästigung durch Nachbarn bzw. eine Baustelle nebenan. Das ist sehr schade, da es sich wirklich um ein wundervolles Haus handelt – für geräuschempfindliche Gäste könnte das jedoch relevant sein. Abgesehen davon gibt es kaum etwas zu bemängeln.

Sandy beach with good entry into the water. Only few rooms, cozy and uncrowded.

Poor soundproofing of rooms - different noises from external unit of the air conditioner and aeration system for a fish pool. The safe deposit in the room was not attached/screwed to the wall or wardrobe. Given that it is small and light, it could be easily picked up with one hand and carried out of the room. Immediately after check-out, the staff asked us when we were going to vacate the sun-beds because they were limited in number and were for guests only.

We loved the beautiful villa, the large comfortable rooms, the privacy of the secluded location with the garden, the pool and the beach front to relax and enjoy. The food was amazing, the staff was extremely friendly and interacting in a very friendly and respective manner. We would immediately go there again and stay for a couple of nights. The beach is also beautiful and largely undeveloped.

The only thing we didn't enjoy had nothing to do with the hotel, but more the surroundings. There is no alternative restaurant or bar by this beach. You would have to drive somewhere.

Das gesamte Personal war aussergewöhnlich zuvorkommend und hilfsbereit. Wir erhielten super Empfehlungen für Ausflüge etc. Es war einfach ein perfekter Aufenthalt im Sundara by Mosvold und unser absolutes Highlight auf unserer Sri Lanka Reise!

Geweldige kamer, er was zelfs een bubbelbad die niet op booking stond aangegeven. Het personeel is erg professioneel en de chef kok kan fantastisch goed koken. Ze doen erg hun best het naar je zin te maken. Voor onze laatste avond hadden ze zelfs de tafel extra romantisch opgemaakt.

Taxi service is erg aan de prijs, is meer een westerse prijs, en kan zelf veel goedkoper georganiseerd worden (wij hadden voor de helft van de prijs)

Small boutique hotel in a stunning secluded beachfront location, quality accommodation with high levels of customer service and privacy respected. The beach is amazing, swimming outside the hotel is possible if waves are small, otherwise it’s just a short walk to a calmer spot. We stayed in the villa with private pool which is lovely. The breakfast and dinner options are great and include Asian and international choices. It’s a perfect place for a relaxing few days, away from it all. A memorable end to our Sri Lanka trip!

Мы отдыхали в отдельностоящем номере со своим выходом на лужайку, террасой со столом и креслами с прямым видом на океан. Номер просторный в классическом стиле с тропическим душем. Он здесь такой один, и мы очень довольны, что выбрали именно его. Прямо на нашей террасе мы завтракали, обедали и ужинали. Никаких ограждений между территорией отеля и пляжем нет, что тоже добавляет ощущение полного слияния с природой. Вокруг птицы, пальмовые белки, мангусты пробегали. Пляж небольшой, но погулять утром вполне достаточно. На лужайке отеля и у бассейна тоже комфортно и уютно. Бухта полностью в распоряжении гостей отеля, больше мы туристов не видели ( наверное, в бухте только этот отель). В самом отеле номеров немного и всего 8-10 гостей. Зато наблюдали как местные жители сетями ловили рыбу, это было интересно. Слева в бухте много лодок местных жителей. Купаться в океане сложно из-за волн, поэтому мы просто гуляли вдоль воды. Работающие там люди - милые, улыбчивые и внимательные. Спасибо за поздравление с днем рождения! Спасибо, что у нас получилось отдохнуть на территории отеля до вылета, который был вечером! В меню есть хорошие мясные блюда, каша - более привычные нам. Все вкусно готовят! Приятно, что три последних дня отпуска на острове мы провели именно здесь! В последнюю ночь черепаха прямо напротив отеля на пляже отложила яйца, кому-то повезет увидеть как черепашата отправляются в океан 😌

The staff was friendly.

We specifically booked a room with a balcony on Booking.com. Upon arrival, we were given a ground-floor room with a small patio instead – not what we selected nor paid for. Although the manager promised to clarify the issue with the head office and update us, we never received any proactive communication. We stayed the first night as we had no alternative accommodation, but we were far from satisfied with the room: 1. It did not match our booking. 2. The room was dark, noticeably small (likely under 30 sqm, our booking was for a 40sqm room), and very noisy due to its location right next to the lobby and hallway. We constantly heard guests and staff talking, footsteps, doors, and even music until 9 PM. Mosvold advertised soundproof rooms, which is not the case! 3. There was a persistent musty smell. 4. The entire property appears much more spacious online than it really is. The pool is quite small and the layout feels cramped, offering little privacy. When we decided to check out the next morning, the manager agreed to refund the remaining three nights after consulting with the head office. He assured us that we would be contacted the same day to arrange the refund, however, no one ever called. Booking.com informed us that the hotel also did not respond to their inquiries. In the end, we paid €800 for a service we did not receive - this is extremely dishonest! Booking.com did not provide much assistance either. We cannot recommend Mosvold, it does not meet the standards of a 5-star hotel in any way. For this price range, there are much better options available and the lack of accountability is unacceptable. Not worth the money!

Unfasslich umsichtiges und liebevolles Personal in einem entzückenden, kleinen Boutiquehotel mit Privatstrand, Pool, gepflegtem Garten.

Die Gartenmöbel leiden sehr unter dem Klima und gehören ehrlicherweise getauscht oder jedenfalls gestrichen.

Die Lage ist sehr ruhig und schön. Der Koch ist ein Meister in seinem Metier. Ansprechende Auswahl, frisch und sehr schön zubereitrt.

Wir hatten zwei Abende starkregen Die Badezimmerdecke war daher undicht. Beim Klobesuch tropfte es ungemütlich auf mich.

Prachtig gelegen aan het strand. Kleinschalige maar schitterende accommodatie. Zeer vriendelijke bediening.

Geweldig hotel! Het is een grote villa gelegen aan het strand. In en rondom het hotel is aan elk detail gedacht. Het heeft een prachtige entree, tuin en zwembad. Het personeel is heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Er is een gevarieerd menu zodat je op elk moment van de dag lekker kunt eten bij het hotel. Onze kamer was een klein apart huisje in de tuin van het hotel. Het is leuk ingericht en het bed was super comfortabel. Samen met de manager, Ajith, heb ik nog een verrassingsdiner kunnen organiseren voor mijn partner.

Niks viel tegen, dit was een uitmuntend verblijf!

Ankommen ist schon wie nach Hause kommen ! Ajeth und sein Team sind einfach wundervoll . Es wird alles getan , damit man sich wohlfühlt. Der Strand 🏝️ ist wunderschön 🤩. Frühstück gibt es a la Carte und ist sehr, sehr lecker 😋 Haben jeden Tag in der Unterkunft zu Abend gegessen und es war jedesmal ein Traum . Großes Kompliment an den Chefkoch 👨‍🍳! Hatte zweimal das Australische Peppersteak 🤩, unbedingt probieren! Idealer Ort um zu Entspannen und Energie zu tanken . Kommen auf jeden Fall wieder. Macht weiter so 👏🏻 👏🏻

Nichts ! Obwohl , die Matratze waren etwas hart für meinen Geschmack. War aber in den beiden anderen Hotels ebenso . Was meine Bewertung aber nicht negativ ausfallen lässt, da das Positive überwiegt .

Very attentive and friendly staff, we felt spoiled. The view was amazing. We stayed with a toddler and found the property to be a great choice. The only noise you hear is the ocean. They helped us organise any trip we were interested in and we were very happy with every recommendation. Highly recommend.

Uns hat der Aufenthalt sehr gut gefallen! Das Personal und der Service waren unglaublich freundlich und hilfsbereit und das Essen sehr gut (vor allem das Steak und die Weinauswahl waren toll!) Von unserem Zimmer aus hat man direkt auf den Pool und das Meer dahinter gesehen, wir konnten immer direkt auf unserer Terrasse essen und wurden auch dort bewirtet. Die Mitarbeiter haben sich wirklich sehr bemüht und wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt! Das Hotel selbst hat eine tolle Lage, direkt am Meer und die Zimmer waren schön und sauber!

Die Mischung von Warm und Kaltwasser hat in der Dusche leider nicht gut funktioniert, entweder war es lau oder abwechselnd brennend heiß, das müsste behoben werden.

Wonderful villa (as in pictures), few rooms, high standard accomodation. The beach is AWESOME (even if the ocean is often rough) pure nature you can walk for km without meeting tourists.

I suggest little improvement in the quality of the towels (beach and rooms)

По приезде нас встретили тепло: угостили прохладительным напитком и помогли перенести наши чемоданы из машины в номер. Номер на первом этаже был чистым, просторным с большой кроватью, телевизором, кондиционером и видом на бассейн. В номере также имелся туалет, душ, халаты и гигиенические принадлежности. Каждый день делалась уборка номера и менялись полотенца. Территория отеля очень ухоженная, красивая с выходом к океану. Отель имеет небольшое количество номеров, поэтому было всегда комфортно. Внимание персонала было ненавязчивым и своевременным. Отдельно выражаем благодарность повару за прекрасные завтраки и обеды. Было вкусно и по-домашнему уютно. 5 дней проведенные в Sundra by Mosvold будем вспоминать долго и с большим удовольствием, а фотографии, сделанные в этом замечательном месте, будут напоминать нам о прекрасных днях нашего семейного отпуска. Когда мы уезжали, произошел небольшой казус. У нашего арендованного автомобиля разрядился аккумулятор. Персонал быстро и без проблем помог завести двигатель. Мы смогли успешно доехать до нового места.За что огромное спасибо! Будем рекомендовать этот отель всем своим друзьям и знакомым.

Peaceful haven. Pretty much had the place to ourselves which was great, not sure it’d be the same experience if it were busy. The staff were so lovely - from our waiters to the security guard! The a la carte menu was reasonably priced and portion sizes were generous. Our room was also huge!

Our room was on the first floor with limited view to the ocean and the furniture was taken all the space in the room. Lighting was limited. Room on the second floor was much better with more light and space Sunbeds were quite old and limited

The staff were fantastic, so accommodating and helpful. They were very friendly and great with our kids. The food was outstanding as well. We stayed in the two bedroom villa with private pool and it was so lovely.

Quit a lot of Mosquitos. We payed 175$ instead of 590$ for our room. I would not have payed 590$ so value for money is abit off. 175$ is a great price for this hotel. The turtle conservatory close by is a complete scam where they pretend they care about animals but they only use them to rip off tourist. Dont go there.

A fantastic hotel. What made it special was the attention to detail paid by the impeccable service of Ajita and his team. Good food at exceptionally reasonable prices. A special shout to Shan who went over and above to help us. Beach is perfect. Would recommend this hotel to anyone!

while most of the food was good. breakfast was great, seared Tuna was great. some of the dishes such as Pad thai could be better. as with many Sri Lankan restaurants you may ask them to go lighter on salt...

It’s a small piece of heaven ,green , directly on the beach with very few rooms (6) Silence and secure ! We traveled with our 2 small kids and enjoyed our stay much Traveling period is also very important, because if it’s rainy season there is no much to do around than rest and enjoy the views . The staff is kind and helpful. Food is delicious.

Breakfast and evening dinner were both fabulous. Beautiful view of the beach. Very calm and tranquil location. Service and staff both excellent. Room had its own terrace with a view of the sea where we had breakfast and lunch served to us. Amazing sunsets.

Superb location with a beautiful beach. The hotel put on live music in the evenings. The food was delicious although not very varied. The chef came out to greet us which was a nice touch. Friendly staff and considered interior design.

Sea only calm enough for swimming at end of beach, but not far to walk

An oasis of beauty and tranquility. Just eight rooms, more like a home than a hotel. Such peaceful views across the lawn onto the beach through ancient trees. It’s on a very rare patch of Sri Lankan beach with no other hotels or restaurants, just the local fishermen. It’s a magical stretch of beach with hardly any tourists on it. The powerful waves means its not ideal for swimming. But if you walk around the corner 15 min away there is a calmer huge beach, but much more crowded and built up . I did have a quick dip every day, but better to swim around the corner . On the way is a rock jacuzzi pool perfect for young kids, and very popular with the locals at the week end. I discovered it’s co owned/managed by a norwegian so the material standards are really high, beautiful local furniture, gorgeous interior decoration, sophisticated simplicity or is it Asian elegant ‘hygge’ ? The food is delicious, beautifully presented with a choice of local and international dishes, fairly priced as well. As a solo traveller it’s a real haven. The staff are particularly kind and attentive. The manager even called me at 22.00 when I wasn’t back to check all was ok.

It’s perfect. Ideally all the staff understand English better as some things got lost in translation.

We arrived day time with my family after three weeks in Sri Lanka. We travelled around the cost, only good people and lovely room during our journey. What a wonderful country. When we called Sundara in the morning as we wanted something not far from Colombo airport and by the beach, they strangely said they were full but on booking but they had two room via booking so we booked it. The manager and director received us, I already felt less charm and hospitality than usual which I didn’t mind at the beginning. We took our room, sunset came, we had a swim all good yet. Night time we were pretty tired, we went in bed early. Strange feeling started in the room, usually we laugh a lot but we were cold. My wife in the morning said she was really not comfortables all night and felt spirit. It’s the first time in five years she’s telling me this. I understood her feeling but I was too tired that night. We change the second night to the villa suite because they had some weeding guest coming in the smaller room. But at night, the place felt haunted, bad vibration way stronger the second night. This feeling of ghost or presence happened to me twice only, one time in France in an old chateaux and in Bali . I don’t specially believe in ghost or spirit but when you feel it, it surely something. For exemples that second night we put baby for sleep early like usually but 1hr after he started to cry intensely while he was sleeping. So strange for him to do that. It was really uncomfortable, the athmosphere is not clean at all on this proprety. I presume the two cementery behind the villa is part of the strange vibration. We couldn’t stay in the room anymore the second night, we left our stuff around 11pm and book an other hotel somewhere not too far. It was random but energy was like everywhere else we been. Normal. The two man, the manager and director didn’t make any effort, we had to paid the full price for two nights even we checked out the 1st day.

We had the most wonderful stay at Sundara over new year. The resort is on a stunning beach that is so so peaceful. Most of the time we had the beach to ourselves as there are no other hotels on the stretch of beach. The pool is great and the food was excellent. Special thank you to the sundara team for making New Year’s Eve such a special evening. we will for sure be coming back! It is also very much worth doing the river cruise that is near by - breathtaking scenery and highlight of the trip

The Hotel was exactly as it said on their website and on Booking.com It is set on a beautiful beach where you can see local fishermen bringing in their haul. The management and staff are absolutely excellent and can't do enough to enable you to have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Hard to pick any single person out but we must give a Special mention to the brilliant Chef and the amazing, fantastic food that he produces. it really is out of this world.

Nothing really but if we are Being really picky the beds are alittle on the firm side so it would be a great idea to have some mattress toppers available for guests who prefer a softer bed

perfect villa where you feel at home. super friendly and attentive staff, superb location, very calm and secluded. you literally feel like it's your own private villa :) just note - there's no 'classic' bar, you just ask what you want and staff will prepare :) more or less same is with food :) really personal approach!

We chose this hotel because of the amount of the good reviews! What can I say? It was like paradise on earth! The rooms were a dream and the hotel only has like 6 rooms so it is really peaceful. It is a old colonial villa and they kept this style with the decor, towels and so on. The chef was skilled and he took care of my food allergies and made the best Sri Lankan dishes! Especially the egg hoppers with curry in the morning were such a great and lovely start into the day. The staff was also so attentive and professional! We felt great all the time. The staff was always there to bring cocktails and great snacks. All in all we were so happy with everything and we will recommend the hotel to our friends and would always come back. We started our Sri Lankan holiday there and wouldn’t do it any other way since it was absolutely peaceful!

The AC was a bit loud but we cooled the room to the max during the day so we could turn it off at night.

We loved everything: the rooms were large and with beautiful design, everything super clean; very confortable bed. At one point we were the only guests (our group) since it is a small resort. The pool is amazing, food was perfect. It s best to preorder, so you don t wait. Try Tomato and Orange soup, my favorite, also shrimps, pasta, lamb.. they have a very good Chef. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The nearby Balapytia beach was so beautiful, we saw a wonderful sunset from the rocks. It was splendid to relax here after visiting the island. It was one if the 2 best hotels we stayed in Sri Lanka. Only 5 km to River Madu boat tour. 30-40 min to Hikkaduwa to see turtles.

Very nice and comfortable atmosphere. Due to the small size and the location without any other bigger hotels around, this place feels very secluded and quite. When staying a few nights, it is very easy to connect to other guest or enjoy complete privacy. The beach is beautiful and sunsets are amazing. We would come back surely.

The most beautiful location, quiet, almost private beach, amazing design, comfortable rooms, nice food and of course, exceptional service, tailored and we really felt cared for. We traveled with our 2 year old that enjoyed the pool and the beach. I also was able to enjoy an amazing full body massage in the beach in the morning.

Nothing we did not like, but suggestion to add a couple of items on the menu for kids (or half portions), full length mirror in the room and maybe drying racks available in each room to dry swimwear and towels.

Excellent secluded paradise! Small place (8 rooms only), empty beach with no neighbors - just the Sun, Sea and relax. Great hospitality of Hassan and the Team. Food and cocktails are good (add $50-60 per 2 persons per day). We stayed in Garden Villa - and it was good choice as it has own small garden. Transfer to/from Colombo airport is 2 hours ($125 each way) and very comfortable.

Full sized mirror would be quite useful in the rooms Also, may be it is a good idea to introduce Adult only (no kids) concept. The territory is small and it will create more tranquil atmosphere.

THE LOCATION WAS FANTASTIC, WEST FACING SO LOVELY SUNSETS. YOU COULD WALK FOR SEVERAL MILES IN BOTH DIRECTIONS ON THE BEACH WHICH WAS PERFECT. HOTEL LAYOUT WAS VERY GOOD. WE COULD HAVE BREAKFAST ON OUR OWN TERRACE IF WE WANTED. STAFF WERE ALL VERY FRIENDLY AND KEEN TO HELP. FOOD ON THE WHOLE WAS VERY GOOD BUT THE MENU DID NOT CHANGE.

PILLOWS WERE FOAM AND NO ALTERNATIVE. ONLY ONE MIRROR IN BATHROOM AND THAT WAS IN TERRIBLE LIGHT SO IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT MAKE UP ON ETC. HAD TO ASK FOR DRESSING GOWNS AND HANGERS. STAFF WERE LOVELY BUT RATHER SLOW AND YOU MIGHT WAIT AGES FOR YOUR FIRST COURSE BUT THE SECOND ONE WOULD ARRIVE BEFORE YOU HAD FINISHED THE FIRST. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT WAS THERE WERE ONLY 2 WHITE WINES AVAILABLE AND ONE RED.

This hotel is heavenly. It is right on the most perfect beach and surrounded by trees and the occasional wild life. The rooms are large, luxurious and have large private gardens. The staff are well trained with the aim of providing a perfect holiday experience. This was the last of six hotels that we stayed at across Sri Lanka and was by far the best. The chef produced exceptional dishes and reasonably priced. We felt very cared for at Sundara. Thank you.

We’ve been spoiled from the first minute by the super friendly staff. Private beach is amazing. Big, stylish rooms. Great food.
