Milan is een uitstekende host! Hij heeft ons geholpen met het plannen en regelen van alle activiteiten (ook een safari naar Wilpattu). Hij regelde onze guide Siri die ons super veel bijzondere dingen heeft laten zien! Echt een aanrader. Zijn moeder heeft heerlijk voor ons gekookt.

The welcome and host Milan, who could not do enough to make sure our stay was comfortable and helped with all of our arrangements. Whether sorting the best guides or advice and booking tuk tuks. The homemade traditional Sri Lanka breakfast was excellent, made by his mum, and well worth trying.

The food was exceptional and there was amazing customer service before, during and after our stay. The location is good next to the lake. The Tuk-Tuk tour of the historical sites that Milan organised was a good price and the guide, Siri, was very knowledgeable. The room had a modern bathroom and a nice balcony to sit out on in the evening. Would highly recommend staying here.

This was a great location to stay at. Couldn’t fault it. My room upstairs had a private balcony which overlooked the lake. The aircon was excellent as was the strong hot shower. My bed was clean and comfortable. It was a joy talking with Milan the owner, especially about Buddhism. He organised a guide to take me to the ancient city. A privilege to see the people come to feed the monks and pay their respects at the white stupa. Also wonderful was his mother’s traditional cooking - food I never experienced elsewhere in Sri Lanka. The friendliness and helpfulness of staff was wonderful. I highly recommend staying here

Nous avons adoré notre séjour. Le propriétaire était d’une très grande gentillesse et disponibilité. Grace a des conseils, nous avons pu optimiser notre séjour à Anuradhapura. Nous avons également apprécié l’emplacement, le calme et propreté de l’établissement. Sa maman s’est levé à 5h du matin pour nous préparer notre petit déjeuner lors de la journée au parc national de Wilpattu. Très bon petit déjeuner

L'atenció del Milan,el propietari, és excepcional, des del primer moment que entres al Lake wave hotel té la delicadesa d'explicar-te tot, des de coses de la seva ciutat com els plats típics del país que cuinen de forma casolana des de l'hotel i estan bonissims. Ens va organitzar el tour per la ciutat amb guia i va ser un dia genial, vam aprendre molt, ho recomanem! Ens hem sentit molt cuidats!!

De plek is heel leuk. De tuin met hangmatten en zicht op het meer is prachtig. En alle bezienswaardigheden zijn maar een kort tuktuk-ritje rijden. Lekker ontbijt, een comfortabele kamer en goed geregelde uitstappen, meer hadden we niet nodig voor ons (te kort) verblijf in Anuradhapura

We cannot praise Lake Wave Hotel enough. The owner, Milan, is an extremely nice, enthusiastic and helpful man with impeccable English. Within two minutes of arriving, he’d recommended two of his friends for tuk tuk tours at an extremely reasonable price. We started with four hours around Mihintale with an excellent guide, Nalin, via a stop-off at an ancient tree swarming with monkeys and a peaceful ancient temple. The next day, we had a six-hour tuk tuk tour around the sites of the old city with the incomparable Siri, who I cannot recommend highly enough. He really did his best for us… we finished the tour in the dark with my two daughters singing a prayer next to him in front of a 2,000-year-old Buddha in the forest. As for the Lake Wave: the family room was large, clean and comfortable, with a kettle, air con, mosquito nets and an en suite. There is an incredible huge covered balcony overlooking a beautiful, quiet garden (the first thing we saw was a green parrot in the tree directly opposite us!). The lake is immediately outside the garden gate and we had a very gentle twenty-minute stroll around it, stopping on the way back to use a swimming pool 100m from Milan’s place (as suggested by him). In the morning, my daughters lay in the hammocks in the garden and read. Milan’s mother sells clothes and purses she’s made herself inside the foyer and my daughters bought three purses and one bag. The food was delicious and we ate absolutely everything: rice steamed in bamboo, with coconut milk and fruit juice and fresh fruit, roti with fresh sambul. The whole family were gentle and charming. Milan arranged a car to take us to Nilaveli at a competitive price. I would trust anyone he recommends! I wish we could have stayed longer.

Milan is een perfecte host die ons warm verwelkomde en steeds paraat stond. De kamers kregen net een prachtig terras. Zeer goed werkende airco waardoor het prima slapen was. Goede douche. De eigenaar verhuurt fietsen tegen een heel schappelijke prijs. De ligging is fantastisch met op wandelafstand enkele leuke restaurantjes. Absoluut een aanrader!!! Dank je wel Milan voor de mooie, gastvrije start van onze rondreis door Sri Lanka.

Door de werken aan het terras werkte de tv op onze kamer niet. Dat zou snel opgelost worden. Op zich geen probleem maar net tijdens die nacht wilden we graag de laatste kwalificatiewedstrijd van onze nationale ploeg op het WK voetbal volgen. Gelukkig konden we beneden in de grote gemeenschappelijke ruimte terecht om de wedstrijd te volgen.

Milan is an outstanding host. We kept (happily) extending our stay. Milan offered us wise advice about when to visit the Buddhist temples so that it was comfortable in the heat as well as informative. We are both in our mid(plus!) 60’s. We were guided and driven by the excellent guide Siri. Take Milan’s advise, and trust him. We loved the lake view and garden. Being able to circumnavigate the tank ( reservoir) for a 45 minute walk in the morning or evening was a welcome distraction from the busyness of the city. Lovely room with a view of the garden. Authentic fresh breakfasts and evening meals but also a 10 minute walk to nearby, lakeside restaurant and excellent coffee shop.

Een oudere woonst met ruime kamers. De meubels zijn niet zo modern maar alles is wel proper. Gelegen aan het meer, een tuin om in te zitten en een afgesloten terras met zetels en eettafels. Zeer vriendelijke eigenaar en zijn moeder is de kokkin. Het avondmaal en ontbijt was haar specialiteit, lekker. Spijtig dat er muggen waren maar rond 17h aan een meer is dat onvermijdelijk. De host bracht meteen citronella en er stond ook wierook tegen de muggen.

Ontzettend aardig host die veel voor je regelt. Je kunt er ook echt heerlijk ontbijten en dineren. De host vertelt er ook een mooi verhaal bij! Je bent wellicht iets meer kwijt maar het is zeker de moeite waard

We hadden dit hotel geboekt omdat in de reviews werd gezegd dat Milan zo’n goede gastheer is en bij binnenkomst meteen voorstellen heeft over hoe deze mooie stad aan te vallen. En dat was ook zo. We hebben ons twee dagen erg verwend gevoeld. Milan regelde de eerste dag een tuktuk naar Mihintale, de tweede dag een uitstekende gids/chauffeur voor een tocht langs alle bezienswaardigheden van Anuradhapura. Dit alles voor een redelijke prijs, die we rechtstreeks aan de gids/chauffeur zelf betaalden. Het eten was fantastisch. De moeder van Milan kookt en hij vond het leuk om te proberen ons iets voor te schotelen wat we in de dik drie weken daarvoor niet hadden gehad. Dat lukte. Ondanks dat we in Sri lanka overal heerlijk gegeten hebben kregen we gisterenavond de lekkerste maaltijd tot nu toe. De kamer is ook mooi, de tuin fijn. Kortom, we kunnen dit hotel aan iedereen aanbevelen!

Superaardige gastheer die inzet op de beleving. Dat doet Milan heel goed. Hij wil en kan alles voor je regelen. Er moeten nog stap voor stap verbeteringen worden aangepakt. Hij wil het vooral heel kleinschalig houden, na een financieel moeilijke periode. Hij heeft voor ons een fietstocht en een tuktuk tocht van de bezienswaardigheden geregeld.

Een beetje achterstallig onderhoud, maar daar is hij mee bezig. Onze douche op de kamer moest echt aangepakt worden. Op de kamer naast ons was dat al gebeurd.

Alles klopte maar vooral gastheer Milan was fantastisch 👏😊

This hotel truly exceeded our expectations. The manager goes above and beyond for guests, always taking the time to explain trips, local attractions, and the surrounding area. It’s clear he genuinely cares about helping people, which builds real trust and makes your stay feel personal and welcoming. Our safari experience was absolutely incredible. The Jeep driver was brilliant — going out of his way to ensure we saw as many animals as possible. Thanks to his dedication, we saw leopards, crocodiles, bears, birds, and many more. The driver who transported us to the safari was the safest we experienced in Sri Lanka. We felt so comfortable and secure that we chose to use him again for our return journey. When we arrived, the tour was very informative, and the guide shared a lot of valuable knowledge. One of the highlights was visiting the temple in the evening, where we witnessed a beautiful local religious ceremony and offerings made to the Buddha — a truly memorable cultural experience. The hotel itself is lovely, with a peaceful setting overlooking a lake, making it a relaxing place to unwind after a day of adventure. Most of all, we left feeling like we had made genuine friends, not just stayed at a hotel. Highly recommended for both the exceptional service and the unforgettable experiences.

Milan and his family did their utmost to make a pleasurable stay turn into an unforgettable experience. we were provided with lots of valuable information regarding attractions in the area. when required, we were given the service of a knowledgable guide (who never detoured to “an interesting shop”) or were provided enough information to successfully do our own thing. But the outstanding feature of the Lake Wave are the meals. after sampling the first dinner we immediately decided to have all our meals at the hotel. in a country famous for the quality of its cooking, Milan‘s mother topped them all. be it breakfast or dinner, we always chose Sri Lankan cuisine and in our four week stay in Sri Lanka we had it never better than during the four days we sampled the food at the Lake Wave. a truly exeptionable experience. it‘s a must!

Milan is a great help for all the activities that I want to do.

Milan is super vriendelijk, helpt je overal bij en zorgt er voor dat je het zo comfortabel mogelijk hebt. Locatie is top aan het meer. Mooie tuin waar je ook kan relaxen in de hangmat of lekker kan zitten.

A giudicare dalle recensioni piene di entusiasmo, ci aspettavamo una struttura a gestione familiare ma un po' più curata. La pulizia della nostra camera lasciava molto a desiderare, il profumo messo sulle lenzuola dava la sensazione che non fossero pulite, così come il bagno.

El trato del personal. Nos ayudaron en todo (safari, consejos de visitas, tuk-tuk...) con excelente organización. Cena y desayunos excelentes, comida local, y además con explicaciones de cada plato y de los ingredientes. La situación muy adecuada, lejos del bullicio y cerca del lago. Gracias, Milan!

Milan ist unglaublich freundlich, sehr hilfsbereit und gibt Superreisetipps. Der Garten ist toll und das Essen auch. Meine Tochter hat dort einen schönen Rock von der hauseigenen Schneiderei gekauft und mein Sohn hat ein Buch (deutsche Fassung) im Buchregal gefunden.

De ligging van het hotel is perfect, je hebt uitzicht op een prachtig meer en dichtbij zijn er meerdere leuke cafés/ restaurants. De host is super vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Hij hielp ons met het plannen van onze dagen. Zo regelde hij een erg goede gids voor een tempel tour en eentje voor een safari in wilpattu. Het is zeker een aanrader!

Review Great location with a beautiful view of the lake and lovely garden. Milan is a superb host. From the moment we arrived we felt so welcomed and looked after. He arranged a fantastic guide for Mihintale and the next day the same guide took us to the ancient city. Milan knows the guides well and selected to match our wants. Then there is the food - cooked by mum - we think she should be on Masterchef. We had dinner on the first night and it was so special we ate there our second night as well. Milan shared the history of the dishes and arranged dishes to our taste (authentic but not too spicy). Comfy bed. Lovely bathroom. Great aircon. The room was perfect. We highly recommend Lake Wave. If we return to Sri Lanka we will return to this place too.

The hotel is comfortable and well located, near a very pleasant lake. The owner, Milan, and his family were very kind and helped us with everything we needed. We had dinner and breakfast there, and everything was delicious. 100% recommended!

Instalaciones muy antiguas Baño requiere renovación Hormigas en la habitación los extras los cobran muy caros..no sé corresponden con el alojamiento ni con el precio de la habitación Pedí un segundo café en el desayuno que cuesta 1500 rr y me quiso cobrar 650 rrp más. Las bicis de pago las usamos 2 horas y nos cobraron el día entero 1500 rr. Quisimos alquilarlas medio día y no fue posible.

La chambre famillale en elle même, avec la vue sur le lac, est accueillante et dispose de tout le nécessaire..L'hôtel est agréable et bien situé. L'accueil est vraiment très chaleureux. Notre hôte a pris le temps de nous expliquer, bien en détails, les choses à faire à Anuradhapura. Il nous a organisé les diverses excursions et la visite des sites sur 2 jours avec un guide/chauffeur de Tuk tuk, c'était fantastique ! Il nous a également préparé à manger plusieurs fois et c'était très bon. Le rapport qualité prix est top.

Actually let me sum this up for you: -perfect room, clean, airco, small balcony (+view lake) -food 10/10 -hospitality 11/10 -small clothing shop (owners mom), self-made/sewn --> Etihad had our luggage so we were forced to buy clothes but my god was this the most friendly woman in Sri Lanka, even adapted a dress to my size and with the leftovers made a hair band for free. -nice walk around the lake -market acrosse the lake worth visiting -GO HERE.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Lake Wave Hotel, thanks in large part to the young owner, Milan. He went above and beyond to make our family of five feel welcome and well-cared for. On the spot and short notice, Milan expertly arranged perfectly suited excursions for us both within and around Anuradhapura. After our adventures, we were treated to delicious dinner and breakfast options. Highlights included the flavorful Jackfruit curry, breadfruit curry, and string hoppers, all served with tasty sambal and roti. Every meal was truly special and delicious! Beyond the fantastic food and excursions, Milan even took the time to teach "us boys" how to excel at billiards – a fun and unexpected bonus. The hotel's location is also ideal, with a 2.5 km footpath surrounding a beautiful lake situated right between the hotel and the water. It was perfect for an early morning run. We will definitely be staying at Lake Wave Hotel again on our next visit to Anuradhapura.

We should have stayed longer.

Lovely spot next to the lake with a little garden with two hammocks. The family who runs it are very friendly and helpful. We had both breakfast, lunch and dinner there and the food was great! They made a big effort at breakfast to provide things for our children that they would like. We left early the last day and they got up and made a packed breakfast we could eat on the train. Our familyroom was nice with comfortable beds.

The hotel is in a beautiful place right by a lake, and the owner is lovely and really helpful! He helped us plan our trip, organised a great tuktuk driver/guide for the city at a very reasonable price, and even showed us to a restaurant with amazing and cheap local food. We also had a meal at the hotel, which was great Sri Lankan home cooking. I really recommend staying here!!

We loved everything!! From the traditional cooked meals made lovingly by Milan's mother, to the location right on a lake. Sitting in the garden watching the squirrels, birds and the occasional mongoose moving by. The hotel is close to restaurants and ATMs. Milan organised a safari to Wilpattu National Park, motorbike hire and anything else we needed during our stay, including a wonderful, informative tour of the city in a tuk tuk. The bed was comfortable, with a strong hot shower and good aircon. We would happily return here without any hesitation and look forward to doing so.Thanks Milan!

The room is very basic but has everything you need

I don’t know where to start! If you are looking for a wonderful location with the most beautiful people, pick here! Milan is so incredibly helpful & organised the best tours we took in Sri Lanka. We learnt so much from our guides and the prices were very low. Milan’s mother (amma!) is an amazing cook and seamstress. The food they cooked us was amazing and between them they organised many different foods that we had not tried before. The garden is absolutely beautiful with the hammocks and leads out to the lake which has a new path you can walk around. The hotel is full of beautiful plants everywhere! Amma makes the most wonderful clothes and other items. I had some trousers and tops made specially in fabrics I chose and love them! We really enjoyed our time here but mainly we loved spending time with Milan & his amma. We were very sad to leave and can’t wait to return some day :)

Its in a quiet neighborhood. The rooms were okay. Not super clean but had all the facilities. The owner accommodated our request to provide breakfast.

The bed broke in the night and I had to find alternate sleeping arrangements. I felt the linen was not cleaned properly. The place needs an ungraded.

Property was quiet, in a pleasant waterfront location. Room was a good size, bathroom was new and adequate. Good air-conditioning and WiFi. Breakfast was extra, good Sri Lankan breakfast. The owner was extremely helpful in all aspects and especially going to the trouble of sending belongings we left behind, by courier to our next hotel.I was very grateful for his effort in this.

Great place to stay in Anuradhapura, the garden with view on the lake is so nice, especially after a very hot day. Milan is an incredible host, so welcoming and helpful, it was a true pleasure to meet him! The food (both breakfast and dinner) was copious and amazing - among the best ive had during my trip in Sri Lanka!

Milan is super nice, helpful and organized, the best Tuk Tuk drivers for excursions. The rooms are simple. Good air conditioning, comfortable bed and your own bathroom. The garden and the view are very beautiful, located right on the lake. Breakfast and dinner are prepared by Milans mom. Both very tasty and only recommended. It felt like a homestay. I can only recommend it .

Large rooms, with comfortable beds. The A/C was working great, and in terms of cleanliness it was pretty good. The beds were really comfortable too. The host Milan was superb, and attentive to our needs and his mom cooks amazing food! The whole complex is very nice, with a nice yard. Milan also has bikes to rent.

WiFi was decent, there were times that we had trouble with connection.

The atmosphere is relaxed and informal. The hotel host and staff are very helpful and friendly. The location, near the centre of the new town, on the bank of a lake, is perfect. There is a hotel garden, bordering the lake and the rooms have all thinkable modern facilities (super showers), ours even had a small balcony. Sulanda, the mother of the host, has a small tailoring workshop in the hotel. She is a good and experienced tailor. What more do you want!?

Our host Milan was attentive, polite, and well spoken. He took the time to explain everything from the delicious food he served up to the sights and attractions in the area. The accommodation itself is a cute lakeside hotel with a beautiful lush garden. The quality of the food was amazing. Local SriLankan dishes with local ingredients served with care and attention to detail.

It's hard to fault for the price.

Backing on to the lake gives walking access to some restaurants. Great host but don’t challenge him to a game of pool because he will probably beat you!

Great place to stay in Anuradhapura! In a lovely quiet location on the edge of town with a lovely back garden overlooking the lake. Convenient to the temples but peaceful - the breeze from the lake made the garden a lovely place to relax after visiting the temples. Milan and his family are wonderful hosts and the home cooked food is great. My room was also spotless and very comfortable. Milan also organized perfect tuk-tuk trips for me with an excellent driver who also acted as guide. Siri was extremely knowledgeable about his hometown and the temples - he did not simply parrot what it says in the guidebooks! This was a truly exceptional place to stay when visiting Anuradhapura!

Great place to stay - totally recommend!

The location is good being on the lake with a walking path. The room was clean and comfortable with a fridge and balcony. The meals served are great, tried breakfast, lunch and dinner here and all were fantastic. I recommend.

Nice place on the water with a big, bright comfortable room. Owner is very hands-on and super friendly. Garden out front is wonderful.

There's no sign, it's tricky to find. Food is very good at the hotel but check prices first if you're on a budget.

Very nice location. We had a room for 3people, with 2big size and comfortable beds. Our room was looking to the lagoon the hotel has in front. So waking up to that view you didn’t feel like you were in a big city as Anuradhapura is. Milan and his family are very welcoming and kind. Always smiling, helping and accomodating in everything possible. They make your stay a beautiful one. Breakfast is made fresh every morning and different everyday, so you can try typical Sri Lankan breakfast dishes. Rooms are good, not the fanciest but bathrooms have been recently renovated, showers are really good (lots of water pressure) and you have really good A/C and also a powerful and silent fan. Rooms also have mosquitos nets to cover the whole bed, in case you wanna sleep with windows open and enjoy the breeze you get at night. We totally recommend this place as Milan and his family made are stay a very nice one! Thank you for everything!

Nothing, everything was perfect

Everything! Wonderful garden in front of the lake with great views. Shower pressure was amazing & hot. Wifi connection also always working. And then of course the amazing family and staff that took care of us wonderfully. Make sure to eat at this place as the ‘mama’ is the greatest cook. Don’t book any tours with anyone else, but let them organise it for you so you dont get scammed. We booked 2 nights and ended up booking a 3rd

We had a great time staying in the lake wave hotel. The host Milan was super helpful with everything. We had a lot of rain during our stay and jet we had an amazing time. We had daily sri lankan breakfast and twice a delicious dinner at his place. He organised us a tuktuk to the old city of anuradhapura and a scooter to see mihintale. Furthermore we had some problems with our credit cards and Milan organised a Cash Exchange and took care for the bus wich took us to Dambulla. For everything mentioned above the price was more than fair. The garden is beautiful and the house is right next to the lake with a wonderful view.

The property is right on a lake that we enjoyed walking around every opportunity because we would see many, many birds, huge monitor lizard, mongoose and we even saw monkey once.

The Owner was from the Moment we arrived really helpful and organized directly a tour for us. He speaks very good english and his mother was a excellent cook. They were super child friendly and our 18 month old son was treated like a familymember. Thank you for everything!

The location is beautiful, and Milan is a very warm and friendly host. He had really good recommendations for activities, without being pushy. We did a tour to Mihintale with a friend of Milan, which was magical, for a very fair price. We could also rent bicycles to cycle to the temples. We had a great time here. The room was very neat, the bathroom just renovated. The breakfast made by his mother was also very tasty!

As two young women we felt very comfortable with this stay. Everybody was of great help, we were able to secure good deals through their recommendations with local drivers/tours, and the best of all was the food. All cooked fresh and best we had in the country so far. The stay gas a beautiful garden by a lake, rooms are basic but clean and all you need. Would recommend this stay to anyone.

Milan and his mother, Sunanda, run a fabulous small hotel! It is situated right on the lake and perfect for an early morning stroll or even darting off to sample the shops. Our room was very comfortable with efficient AC. Sunanda is a great cook and effortlessly rustled a delicious meal up evern with our late arrival. Milan arranged a great guide for our exploration of the Sacred City.

The owner was friendly and helpful. He organized trips to Mihintale Rock and Wilpattu National Park for us. If you are hungry, just tell him, and his mother will cook delicious and traditional food for you. We had a good time at this place and would definitely recommend staying there.

The only downside is the relatively high prices. The owner provided a final bill at the end that listed all the meals and services we had booked. The prices were quite steep. For instance, we paid 7,500 RP for bicycles we rented for a day and around 1,000 RP for a beer. So better keep an eye on the costs throughout your stay.

We loved the quiet and green garden, the hammocks and the amazing food! The host Milan was super helpful and taking very good care of us. A good option for low-cost accommodation.

Milan is fantastic, both as host and as a person. We had nice evenings and conversations together, he cooked delicious food for us, he is super helpful and flexible. But most importantly, he is a wonderful person. The room is clean and cozy. He recently renovated all bathrooms, so they are very clean and modern. We would love to come back one day. Miss you Milan! Thanks a lot for our time together :) we would 200% recommend this place!
