Rooms and food
We have had the most spectacular stay here, I wish we could have stayed weeks! The location is stunning with incredible lake views from the room and the pool/restaurant. The staff here are truly incredible - every single person from the welcome to the restaurant to the night housekeeping are so lovely and will help you with whatever you need. They even organised a cake and candles for my birthday :) The restaurant will even cook off menu items which was a treat! The fish and chicken Sri Lankan curries were a highlight. We also had a foot massage from Nishanth the spa therapist and it was incredible, when we come back we will be booking deep tissue massages with him!!! This property is so at one with the surrounding environment and animals and we really appreciated all the little environmentally friendly touches like the lack of plastic!
Nothing at all.
Beautiful rooms (tents). Great staff. Special stay. Worth every rupee.
Not an issue but you need to be comfortable with wildlife if you stay here
Heel erg netjes, nieuw, zeer mooi ingericht. Heel erg aardig en behulpzaam personeel en goed eten.
The location and the staff.
After spending an hour in the swimming pool with my children &grand children watching the young monkeys jumping from the trees into a pond . The stupid security guard decided to start shooting at them with a rifle . Apart from being extremely dangerous it’s a disgraceful you call yourself an eco resort.
Relaxing. Breakfast was beautiful.
Access was a little tricky.
Our stay at the villa in Flameback Eco Lodge was an incredible experience surrounded by nature. The villa is spacious, beautifully designed, and blends perfectly with the natural environment. Waking up to the sounds of birds and the peaceful lake view made with the small pool feel truly relaxing, staff were friendly and also arranged private Yala Safari for us.
Nothing
We had a brilliant time at Flameback Eco Lodge. The suite we had booked was absolutely stunning - a huge tent with great facilities and lots of nice touches. The staff were the stand out aspect of the stay - they were so attentive, accommodating and helpful, arranging packed lunches for us ahead of our 5.30am safari departure and checking in on us to ensure we were enjoying our stay. We were celebrating a very special occasion while there and the team went above and beyond to make it feel extremely special - big thanks to Saduni, Isuru, Tharuka and Dimuthu in particular! Also the grounds of the property are really beautiful, right by the lake with lots of local birds and relatively quick and easy to get to Yala for safari
Nothing!
We stayed in the honeymoon tent. It was a romantic vibe and the view out over the water and private pool were lovely. The restaurant was very good. Great breakfast. Evening cocktails by the fire pit also a lovely touch.
It was hard to see very well as the lighting was quite dim. I guess it’s hard in a tent.
Alles was super schoon.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The tent was designed well with separate toilet and shower and was very clean on arrival. We had a complimentary bird watching tour with guide then a free cocktail before dinner. Nice touch👍 Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant was excellent.
Shame you could hear the road in such a tranquil setting but it didn’t spoil the stay.
Everything was spectacular. It’s easily a 4 star property.
Everything was perfect.
Staff was amazing Nishantha spa therapist and the foot massage are simple the best Both park rangers very good and good game safaris
All is ok
Excellent Safari with really knowledgeable ranger guide (Chummi). This really made all the difference for our wonderful trip to Uda Walawe National Park. Also, David, the head waiter made us all feel very welcome.
Very nice experience, great tents and staff was very helpful.
Beautiful place , perfect service , special thanks to my ranger/guide to make it a perfect experience!
Nothing
We took the bushlark villa, which was sensational. It is beautifully appointed, with a four poster bed, quality furniture and detail, and wonderful staff who are so attentive, helpful, and just lovely. Nothing was too much trouble and the attention to detail was on point. The villa was clean and secure, the safe was a large one for our big laptops and all our stuff, and the mini bar had wine and beer. The chef was excellent and all the team couldn’t help enough. We only booked 2 days in advance, and arranged our tour of Yala separately through GetYourGuide (we went zone 5 as it was 30 minutes away) but they do it too. We saw elephants, one leopard, monkeys, loads of birds and found the afternoon 4 hour tour plenty, without spending all day in the park - but beware you might miss the leopard depending on circumstance. They warn you that you might not see wildlife - but we saw elephants, birds and deers the moment we arrived. The boat ride and bird tour on site were brilliant and a must do. The guy who did my bird tour was so knowledgeable, he also took me through plants and loads of wildlife facts and loads of other facts about Sri Lanka - he was excellent - it’s 6:30am though - but well worth it!! We did 2 nights, which we thought was enough, other people were there longer and were loving it.
Nothing. It’s a great place
This is an amazing lodge with so much wild life in the area. It’s definitely a glamping experience. The staff were lovely. We stayed in the honeymoon suite which we would highly recommend. Watching all the birds from the pool was so peaceful. The naturalist Tushan was an exceptional guide for both our bird watching tour and safari. Yala National park was unfortunately closed due to flooding when we were there but he took us to Bundala National park instead and made sure we still saw lots of wildlife!
Our only issue with the property is that there’s an airport nearby and it was quite noisy with planes when trying to sleep at night. However they provided ear plugs and I would still highly recommend staying here.
Service
Very clean , comfortable and friendly staff
Nulla
The lodge is very nice, in a nice location by water. Staff were the best. Piyumi is the kindest person to welcome you when you arrive and very professional. Rajitha is also an amazing therapist that took care of my back pain. Everyone on the lodge was very nice. And it was great to do the Udawalawe safari with Chaminda. I only stayed one full day at Flameback and was tired to do both safaris so skipped the Yala safari. The tents were very charming and clean and it is great to fall asleep and wake up with the sounds of nature and lake reflections.
The spa's location on a tree house wasn't functional, by the water could be more silent and relaxing as I only heard the music of the next hotel and not the birds... Didn't t feel the need to have the huge floating table either as it doesn't t seem organic ( is it a plastic buoy?) like the rest of the place and affects the view of the lake and its surroundings...
Interesting setting lots of wildlife around, eating food in the restaurant can be a challenge A shout out to Dhillion who kept the swooping bird away when we were trying to eat and looked after us
The manager warned three times us about leaving money in the accommodation. Which as frequent travellers both for business and leisure we found strange. We were also asked if house keeping could go in when we weren’t there , again strange. We were the only people in the resort and they knew we were out on a safari all day. Hidden in a closed bag inside clothes in a packing cube I had left money in a cloth bag, 500 usd, a few thousand in local and 200 sar was stolen, my friends euro coins bag was also taken and 2 lipsticks When I reported to the manager his first comment was I told you not to leave things in your room. I was dissuaded from going to the police, which I went anyway. It turns out the house keeper had been fired from a previous role for exactly the same thing, the money was never returned obviously, no discount offered on the stay either for the situation. They knew we were away for hours, they had plenty of time to go in and take stuff. The manager and police tried to suggest my friends if 20 plus years has stolen it or that we had made it up. We have no reason to make it up. The manager also called our driver to see if we had been trouble. He should be looking at his own staff he had been hiring and himself.
Concept
Lighting within the room Ned more illuminated only towards the washroom it was illuminated
The rooms and grounds are beautiful, great facilities and activity offerings, very friendly and attentive staff, good food.
There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
Amazing location with easy access to Yala national Park. Beautiful surroundings with exceptional natural beauty. Very friendly stuff and well equipped for safari and bird watching. We had a great Safari tour with private guide to see rare animals and well organized! We stayed with our 7y/o son and he enjoyed every minute of our visit. Our tent/room by the lake with airco was very unique. Highly recommended! Rooms
The staff were excellent, very attentive, the setting was beautiful
My wife left the wallet in the room for dinner and we asked them to clean the room The cleaning staff stole 400 dollars from her wallet.
Beautiful location, very helpful staff who did everything they could to give us a comfortable stay
The Four bed villa was amazing, the location amazing, staff amazing, ranger amazing
The pillows are too high, soft pillows are needed
The location by the side of the lake was beautiful. The staff were very interesting very friendly and helpful and it felt like our home for the short time we were there. We both loved it and will definitely come back.
We loved it all.
Gorgeous location. Staff helpful, polite and friendly. Impressed with the food and thought it was very reasonably priced, despite there being little choice of where to go as the hotel is far from anywhere else. Pool lovely. Glamping tents very clean with air con and a fan. Bed very comfy. We loved our 2 night stay. Would recommend.
Nothing
Beautiful and luxurious safari tent accommodation on Weerawila Lake. I loved the tranquil location and enjoyed being completely immersed in nature with stunning views over the lake. The tents were well equipped and very comfortable with a decking area to sit and watch the wildlife. The staff were friendly, polite and helpful and organised a half day for me. There were other activities that could also be organised. Highlights for me included a massage with Charu in an open sided cabin high up in the tree canopy. Listening to the birdsong all around me whilst having a massage was an incredible experience. The second stand out experience was a bird watching tour within the Flameback Eco Lodge grounds with Thushan. He is very knowledgable and I learnt so much on our walk. There is an abundance of wildlife in the area is incredible and there are so many opportunities to take beautiful photos. The restaurant served a mixture of local and foreign cuisine and I enjoyed all the meals that I had there. The staff were always smiling and eager to please and I felt completely comfortable as a solo female traveller. Thank you to everyone at Flameback Eco Lodge for an unforgettable experience!
the place is located in a nice area, but at night, there is loud music from the village until 22 or 23 h. this was a disturbing the nature-setting. The Restaurant and "lounge" on the terrace did not look like on the pictures, but it was raining a lot, so they probably moved the Cusions and sofas there away. The Ranger for the Safari was very Good - or better: excellent! Very kind, and he knew a lot about the Parks an Animals.
The loud music at night-time
Great accommodation on beautiful grounds. Helpful staff that arranged for a safari for us in yela and a candlelit dinner. Good onsite food too.
The staff are so friendly and helpful. They were on hand to provide suggestions on local tours without being pushy. They also went out of their way to make us egg hoppers one day which we were really grateful for. The villa is new and really well furnished with super comfy beds and pillows.
Amazing place! We had a such a great time staying at the Eco lodge with five star service from everyone at the Flameback , food are lovely and the swimming pool is well maintained we didn't want to leave! The lodge is not far from Hilton but the experience at this place was nothing to compare. We saw all the wild life, the beautiful sun rise , there were over 100 species of birds around the place. The pre drink by the lake and log fire watching little fireflies twinkling about was such a special experience. Really highly recommended.
Nothing - just a note , it's a glamping after all if the tent style doesn't suit please don't book and spoil the rating or others ;)
Loved the flanking tents with a view of the lake. Staff were friendly and super helpful. Great food for breakfast & dinner. They gave us a packed lunch for our safari. A lovely spa with great massage. A little pricey but worth it.
Food and staff
Just a little tired compared to the pictures but it was raining too!
Excellent staff, always willing to help and went above and beyond. The room was amazing and clean.
It exceeded our expectations …. We booked last minute - arrived at the hotel at about lunchtime and then asked if we could do a Safari, within an hour, we were doing a fantastic Safari! It was on New Year’s Eve as well, the staff went above and beyond to make sure we got everything we needed, probably a 1-1 ratio of staff to customers. The showers a very good as well, which again exceeded our expectations.
There was nothing we didn’t like about it! I was a bit worried about all the bugs, but there was not one bug in our lodge. In fact, we had more bugs in our five star hotel than we did in this lodge..
We stayed at the new Villa. That was perfect for family since it’s huge two story villa and has a private pool. Initially I was bit nervous because there were almost no information about this villa. But we recognized that’s because this facility opened in the end of this month (Dec. 2024). Once my family arrived at this villa, we were immediately fascinated by this villa and great hospitality of the staff. I can recommend this although the gramping camp sites should be also good. In addition, location is good. We can enjoy game safaris for both Yala National Park and Udawalawe National Park since it’s located between both national parks. Finally, I was very satisfied with the email communication with Ms. Sonali Lowe (Manager - Sales & Reservations) prior to our stay, as it was both prompt and precise.
I am generally satisfied, but if I had to point out an area for improvement, it would be the internet connection.
Perhaps the best place in Sri Lanka to have your honeymoon. A very peaceful setting with wonderful diversity of wildlife. The luxury and design of our tent was unmatched. Well worth the cost.
The tents are very comfortable and the service was great - especially the manager Ishan and the restaurant staff!
The location is right between a big road with noisy trucks all night and a big Hilton hotel - it’s not a remote and tranquil location
We booked the honeymoon suite which was spacious and clean. The best part was the monkeys that love to come and visit . The staff went all out with an evening bonfire and cocktails by the lake . The pool is a great size to go for a proper swim . They have a great spa which is elevated amoungst the trees . I had a fabulous foot massage. ❤️
The menu didn’t have enough Sri Lanka. Dishes .
Great location excellent service very clean and comfortable tent. Highly recommended.
Flameback Eco Lodge is the perfect destination for anyone seeking an eco-friendly, peaceful retreat amidst the natural beauty of Sri Lanka. With its serene location, sustainable accommodations, and excellent service, it offers a truly unique and memorable experience that connects guests with nature while providing a comfortable and luxurious stay.
Thanks for the GREAT service. Tents were great.
Literally nothing
Beautiful property/room, lovely staff and good food. Would 100% recommend.
Eco friendly and lovely staff. The tents were great and no mosquitos and clean. Food was just something else - they make an effort and we loved it. Dinner by the river is special.
Just a little away from Yala..
Beautiful environment Friendly service Tasty food
Nothing.
I stayed at Flameback Ecolodge in Sri Lanka and experienced something truly horrifying. During my stay, I was sexually assaulted by a member of the hotel's team. Despite reporting the incident to the hotel staff, they were unhelpful and even lied about calling the police. Not only did they refuse to provide the name of the perpetrator so I could report him, but their overall attitude was dismissive and uncaring. This hotel is extremely unsafe for women. The staff's negligence and refusal to assist in a serious situation is appalling. I urge other travelers, especially women, to avoid this hotel at all costs. Your safety and well-being are not guaranteed here.
Close to the lake
It was noisy at night, music playing until 1.30am at a local club so I couldn’t sleep. I thought it would be calm and tranquil in the wilderness. We had to push for a fishing experience, one of the reasons we booked. Initially they said we could do it from the lake bank only but finally they manage to find someone to take us
Wildlife and quiet
Need to repair some of the zips on tents
Lovely people in a very relaxed and tranquil area. The tents are great, really comfortable and well equipped.
Everything, service amazing, beautiful location, lots of wildlife, eco tents gorgeous
Nothing
Very natural setting, good wildlife tours (extra cost)
Food
Amazing location and exceptional service; The manager Ishan, naturalist Chaminda, Chef Sameera, and everyone who worked there went above and beyond to make our visit comfortable and enjoyable.
A couple of additional charging ports would have been useful but no major issues.
Fantastic location and exceptional service
Nothing that we disliked
We stayed in the honeymoon tent which was beautiful. The room was spacious and very comfortable. We had a lovely private pool and lots of space to ourselves. The staff were very friendly and made our stay wonderful. I’d highly recommend. It was also only a 20 min drive to Yala Safari Park so close by.
Unique glamping experience. Very comfortable tent with your own bathroom and toilet. Tent also has air conditioning. Set on a beautiful lake. Breakfast was delicious and our rate also included a complimentary bird watching tour. Staff were so helpful and friendly. Swimming pool was very refreshing.
Nothing
Beautiful location, excellent service and excellent food
Some ants along the headboard of the bed
Host is Dedicated and helpful
No Buggy service
This place is amazing - the staff are so incredible attentive and can’t do enough to make you comfortable. They are true gems. The ‘tents’ are so special and fitted out with everything.
Very disappointed with the price it is outrageously priced to sleep in a posh tent. To give you an example we stayed in another place just before this one and we had a private romantic 7 course dinner with an excellent chef and a bonfire and paid 25 euros for 2 people. Here they charge you 150 $ for a barbecue with bonfire or 250 if you want to eat in a floating table on the lake. Your not surrounded by nature or wildlife at all, its next to the road and has a huge noisy hilton hotel on the other side and it's full.of rats. I wouldn't recommend it all. Saying that the staff are really nice I just feel sorry for them as I am sure they get alot of angry tourists that felt exactly the same as we did when we realised its a rip off
Great spot, excellent people and facilities...
Nothing
Excellent .. beautiful quiet experience.. stafff soooo nice
Lovely location overlooking a beautiful lake. The honeymoon tent was nicely decorated and was kept very cool with air conditioning. The staff in the restaurant were extremely friendly and helped where they could. Tommy gave us a great safari game drive. Food in the restaurant was delicious.
EXTREMELY overpriced. There was no manager on site which was disappointed when we had an issue. Cooking demonstration is oversold so do not do this unless you are happy to stand and watch for 20 minutes while the chef cooks. No bathroom door in the honeymoon suite so not the most romantic experience. Air-con doesn’t turn off so I’m not sure that this resort is as ‘eco’ as they imply. Perhaps this resort is better in peak season but we were extremely underwhelmed. When we spoke to management about this after leaving via email (because there was no manager on site) they just dismissed our claims. We travelled a long way for the experience of a lifetime and this doesn’t come close unfortunately. Lots of great reviews though so perhaps we were just unlucky!
