Pros: The location right by the beach is beautiful. The hotel provides private sunbeds and serves a nice breakfast right at the beach. You feel like you’re in a secluded place, get to watch surfers all day and are just a short walk away from Polhena beach (the hotel beach is nicer, although quite rough/dangerous for swimming) and an area where you can see and swim with lots of turtles. Plenty of restaurants nearby aswell as scooter rental and place to get your laundry washed. The owner gave us a great tip on where to find turtles (by the doctors house, it’s a restaurant/club. We were originally headed to the tourist hotspot but thanks to him we went to a much better place).

Negative: We were very disappointed with the room. If all you need is a bed and a functioning warm shower, then it‘s enough. If you‘d like a bit of comfort, don‘t stay here. This is the sole reason we left. Already after the first night we considered cancelling the next two nights that we had booked. Only stayed because the beach and surroundings really are quite nice. The room consists literally of an uncomfortable, hard bed, two bedside tables, a rug, a desk without a chair, one coat hanger and a bathroom which you can see in from the bedroom (door and walls are mostly out of transparent glass, zero privacy when travelling with a partner or friend. Don‘t enjoy being watched while sitting on the toilet). The walls/corners are full of dead insects. Zero kind of decoration or anything to make the room just a little bit nicer. According to the homepage there should have been a safe and wifi, we didn‘t have either. During our whole 3 week stay in Sri Lanka this is also the first room where we didn‘t have at least a fridge or a kettle for coffee/tea. And it’s the least nice room out of all. And we have stayed in plenty same priced and cheaper homestays. (photos were taken just before we checked out, hence the unmade bed)

Czysto wygodne łóżko łazienka mimo że mała to wygodnie się w niej bierze prysznic jest ciepła woda jest klimatyzacja. Lokalizacja super 2 kroki do fajnej plaży leżaki darmowe dobre śniadania na plaży przemiły personel pomocny polecam gorąco! Miałam pokój na 2 piętrze ze świetnym widokiem na ocean!

Całą dobę słychać fale oceanu jak ktoś jest wrażliwy na dźwięki w trakcie spania polecam pokoje niżej lub zatyczki do uszu. W łazience czasem czuć wodę ale można włączyć wiatrak cały czas

excellente adresse où séjourner à Madiha. grande chambre confortable au 1er étage, climatisation top, des étagères de rangement très pratiques. salle d'eau fonctionnelle. et un grand balcon donnant sur la plage, petit déjeuner très bon à la plage. accueil adorable du couple qui gère cet établissement.

emplacement exceptionnel! chambres en bas donc pas la plus belle vue sur la mer! mais petit dejeuner super en face de l eau! le 1er soir il y a eu lacher de bebes tortues sur la plage devant, le 2 eme soir une tortue est venue pondre, et sur la plage à droite tres facile de voir des tortues nager! bon petits restos autour( entre autre bob pas cher et sympa)! personnel tres serviable , discret mais si vous leur demander quelque chose ,ils vous trouverons la solution!

This was one the most amazing places I have ever stayed. The warmth of the hosts, their laidback but accommodating nature and the sheer beauty of the location made this place superb. I know I'm gushing but seriously if you want to chill and appreciate the beauty of the world this place is perfect

Die La Polena hat uns von Anfang an begeistert! Ein toller Ort, der einem sofort das Gefühl gibt, willkommen zu sein. Die Unterkunft ist wunderschön und der Aufenthalt war rundum angenehm. Alles hat gestimmt – von der Atmosphäre bis zum Service. Man merkt, dass hier mit viel Herzblut und Leidenschaft gearbeitet wird. Ein klares Highlight auf unserer Reise – wir können La Polena wärmstens weiterempfehlen! Danke für die tolle Zeit! ❤️

Un paradiso. Camera a due passi dal mare, colazione in spiaggia. Lettini in dotazione. Colazione ottima. Spot per il surf di fronte alla struttura, snorkelling a due passi. Personale gentilissimo. Il proprietario parla bene Italiano.

Hotel s vlastní velmi čistou a udržovanou pláži. Jednoduchý ale čistý pokoj s výhledem do zahrady a na moře. Na zahradě byla houpací síť a plážová lehátka. Manažerka se evidentně stará o pořádek. Bohatá snídaně.

“Vtipné” řešení pokoje, kde jde z pokoje vidět do celé koupelny včetně toalety. Asi by se hodilo dát tam žaluzie.

I stayed 2 times at la Polena. I liked the Room on the ground floor. It was prettier. Positive: Beach front, your hear the ocean. Spacious room and bathroom, fly net, bathroom, nice brekkie (could be healthier), clean!

The second room had a few construction sites on the wall.

The mattress and pillows were smelly and became only bearable after treating them with citronella spray.

Nothing, but if you are a light sleeper the water internal drains will keep you awake as will the lashing waves from outside. There are 3 dogs, which I loved but no mention on booking.

Excellent beachfront location. The balcony has a fabulous view of the ocean. Breakfast was fulfilling. Host Akash was very cordial.

Le mobilier extérieur : uniquement deux vieilles tables et des bancs inconfortables pour prendre son petit déjeuner, et quatre transats usés. La cloison vitrée qui sépare la chambre de la salle de bain est vraiment un problème lorsqu' on se lève la nuit et qu'on allume la lumière.... Ne vaut pas son prix. Plein d'hôtels à côté bien mieux.

L'emplacement, l'accueil, le petit-déjeuner sur la plage, la terrasse face à la mer, la proximité de restaurants.

Un film opaque transparent autoadhesif apposé sur la vitre inférieure séparant les wc de la chambre serait le bienvenu !

La vue est sublime, la chambre est propre, les hôtes sont très gentils et de belles personnes. La petite douche sous les palmiers après une baignade en mer est très agréable, plage totalement désertique. Le petit déjeuner était bon, c'était une bonne expérience. Un silence (seulement le bruit des vagues, un bonheur) reposant pour cette fin de voyage !

Une pression très très faible, je le précise au cas où pour certains mais ça ne nous a pas dérangé.

It was well situated on the beach.The manager was very good.Breakfast was very good.if I needed anything they were very willing to get it for me.

I had to ask if breakfast was included.It would have been great to have a jug to make tea when I liked it.Perhaps they could offer bicycles to rent.Although I did find a place to get one.About a kilometre away.

I loved being right on the beach. The room was small and simple with good AC and a couple of chairs on the balcony. The location is convenient to the main town and to beach restaurants.

I could always use more hooks and places to put bags and more towels. This property is cash only like most Sri Lankan guest houses and small hotels. (There is only one ATM on the beach road.)

Nice location on a beautiful beach, friendly staff. I appreciated the fresh fruit at breakfast, while having my feet in the sand.

The transparent door of the bathroom gives zero privacy; as I travelled with a friend it was a bit tricky and had to improvise a cover. It would also be nice to have ‘real’ coffee at breakfast instead of the ‘unilever’ chicory bags.

Loved this hotel and location, a real hidden treasure on Sri Lanka's south coast. The room was lovely, the family were so helpful and friendly, some great food options within 5 minute walk. Pohlena beach is stunning!

Set in a quiet location, yet a couple mins walk from restaurants and bars, as well as easy access to busier spots like Mirissa, it's a great location! Family-run, right on the beach front and with great comfortable rooms, we were glad we chose to stay there. It's wonderful falling asleep with the sound of the waves and being so well looked after. Thank you for an amazing stay!

Our stay at LaPolena was amazing. The owners were very nice and helpful. They helped us organize transfer to and from the hotel. Breakfasts were delicious and served on the beach. The view from the room to the ocean was amazing and the beach was only for us. The owner's dad took us snorkeling with turtles, which was one of the best experiences during our stay. I definitely recommend it!

Fabulous position right on the beach . The room was comfortable with a hot shower, hanging space , good ( and quiet) A/C . Lovely breakfast served on the beach, sun beds available and drinks available to purchase from the helpful hosts . The sea is great for swimming and we enjoyed watching the surfers. Plenty of dining options nearby . The icing on the cake was we got to see a turtle laying its eggs right in front of the hotel . Amazing value for money, we would return .

Breakfast good but the same cold omelette every day. Mattresses on beds could do with upgrading. Plastic sheeting under sheet, not ideal in hot weather.

Basic but clean rooms. Very kind and charming owners who looked after us and found us a taxi etc. It is right on the beach so you go to sleep to crashing waves and wake up to them. Breakfast on the beach is very nice.

Wonderful property right on the beach. Falling asleep to the waves was lovely however if that's not your thing it might keep you up. Would definitely stay again.

Hot water in the shower is on a seperate spray head and the pressure felt low for me.

I spent three wonderful nights here and decided to extend my stay by two more nights because this place is simply perfect. The family who owns the property is extremely friendly and always willing to assist with anything you need. The location is ideal, as it is right on the beach, which is probably the best one I visited during my month in Sri Lanka. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, and everyone around is friendly, making my stay even better. I hope to return in the future because it was a truly wonderful experience!

We absolutely loved it. The guy from the staff who took care of us was very thoughtful and made sure we had everything we needed at all times. The breakfast is absolutely delicious, with the views on the beach and turtles peaking their heads, what else could you wish for??

The one of the most comfortable place i visited on. I think the all the credits goes by to the staf because they are so pleasant and kindly. I think you all can vist and look how they are treate for their customers. I'm fully enjoyed my trip at la polhena.

La Polena is a special place. A quiet accommodation where to enjoy the beautiful ocean, through the beach lying directly in front of their garden. Our room was very spacious and the view was just amazing. The staff is extremely helpful and kind. You will enjoy every minute of it!

We liked everything! The welcome drink, the view from our balcony, the kindness of the staff, the breakfast. The beach is magical and the room clean. Before coming, we were a bit afraid of the heat during the night as there is no AC but the fan was enough and we slept really well. We personally liked the noise of the waves crashing on the beach, it was relaxing. As mentioned, the staff is great, super kind and helpful. They helped us renting a scooter and provided the correct express bus schedule for our next destination. We stayed 4 nights and I wish we could stay longer

Great location, literally on the beach. Modern and clean rooms, friendly staff, nice breakfast, especially pancakes! Also I highly recommend to visit an Italian restaurant nearby, best pasta dishes!

Rooms really need an AC cause it gets extremely hot. Also it was a strange decision to make toilet door with a glass door. You can literally wave to your partner if they are laying in bed while’s you are doing your “business”, as well as bathroom door is sliding, doesn’t close completely so they can hear everything too. 👌 I think it’s a nice place for a short stay despite that.

The location couldn't be better; it offers access to a nearly "private" beach complete with comfortable long chairs for ultimate relaxation and sunbathing. The bed is exceptionally cozy, complemented by a mosquito net, and the bathroom provides a delightful bathing experience. Falling asleep to the soothing sound of waves crashing nearby is incredibly tranquil. In the mornings, the opportunity to witness the sunrise while spotting turtles swimming along the shoreline adds a magical touch to the experience. The breakfast spread is delightful, featuring a variety of fresh fruits, eggs, bread, and sweet potato with coconut. The staff's warmth and hospitality were evident when we arrived; they always assisted us, even greeting us with a refreshing king coconut drink. Conveniently located on the same road are numerous restaurants, just a 2-minute walk away, offering plenty of dining options for lunch and dinner. This place is a dream come true for surfing enthusiasts, with waves right in front of your room and additional surf spots just a 10-minute drive away.

The family that owns the place is amazing, they are very nice and always ready to help us. The location is amazing!

We stayed for 6 nights and there was no cleaning in the room, nor emptying bins , nor clean sheets/ towels in that time ....

We loved our stay at La Polena! The room was very nice and clean and the location was amazing, located right on a very quiet part of the beach it felt like a private beach. The staff were also extremely friendly and helpful I couldn’t recommend it enough!
