We had an unforgettable stay at the Horizon. Waking up in the jungle to see monkeys in the trees was out of this world! The staff were incredibly helpful, and made a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast. My room had stone features which really made it unique. Dalawella and Turtle beach are within walking distance or you can tuk-tuk / taxi to Unawatuna. We would definitely return.

Wir hatten einen angenehmen Aufenthalt und waren insgesamt zufrieden. Der Check-in verlief reibungslos und das Zimmer war bereits fertig. Positiv waren Kühlschrank, Wasserkocher und zwei Flaschen Wasser. Der Pool war schön, wenn auch etwas schattig. Die Außenanlage war ebenfalls ansprechend gestaltet, leider gab es dort einige Mücken. Insgesamt eine gute Erfahrung. Preis-Leistung minimal erhöht, daher 8,5 von 10 Punkten.

Für ein Vier-Sterne-Hotel hätten kleine Extras wie Tee oder Kaffeepulver das Ganze noch abgerundet. Das Frühstück war lecker, aber etwas schmal für diese Kategorie – ein Smoothie oder eine Obstplatte wären eine schöne Ergänzung gewesen.

Extremely (long), and *very* steep hill to the hotel, some tuk-tuks refuse to go up. There are also lots of steps to the pool and restaurant. Leaves fall on the steps and can become slippery when wet.

Из плюсов красивая большая территория, хоть отель находится на горе, но ощущение жизни в джунглях, вот это понравилось. Заселили раньше на час, что тоже стало плюсом.

Было несколько минусов, которые испортили впечатление о пребывании. - при заезде нам не дали сдачу (50$), пришлось напомнить администратору об этом повторно, чтобы получить деньги. - за 3 ночи в отеле ни разу не было уборки, хотя при заезде нам сказали что убираются раз в 2 дня. - нет горячей воды в душе, душ находится на улице и когда идет дождь - приходится купаться в холодной воде под дождем, не предусмотрен навес. - на завтрак нам предлагали только яйца, и когда мы случайно услышали, что другим гостям делают панкейки - были удивлены, т.к. нам их даже не предложили. Сам завтрак скудный, нет ни овощей ни фруктов, только яйца, картошка, грибы и тостеры, ну и напитки.

Det ligger lite avskilt, vilket vi gillar. Mindre hotell så mer plats vid poolen, ofta var vi helt själva. Supertrevlig och hjälpsam personal. Bra mat och frukost. Ta även en sväng nere i backen hos familjen som bor där, frun har hemgjorda kryddor och mannen kör tuktuk till bra priser.

Det var trist att på de två dagarna vi var där så hade de helt slut på läsk, så barnen fick dricka vatten. De hade fruktjuice, men det gick inte hem hos mina barn. En simpel grej, men det gjorde att vi valde att äta på en annan restaurang den andra kvällen.

We were there 3 nights. Everything was perfect. The restaurant was good, the team did everything to make us feel good. Beautiful and big room, the bed was very comfortable and it felt like we were in a jungle. We saw monkeys in front of the porch. You can easily order a tuk tuk and its nice to walk in the area. Very recommended!

Schöne Aussicht, großes Zimmer/Bad/Balkon.

Wir waren insgesamt mit dem Service / der Kommunikation nicht ganz zufrieden. Erst auf Nachfrage erhielten wir am 2.Tag die Info wie es mit dem Frühstück funktioniert & welche Optionen es gibt. Davor wurde uns einfach etwas auf den Tisch gestellt. Trotz Vorbestellung mussten wir sehr lange auf das Frühstück warten - und auch hier nochmals nachbestellen, weil falsch umgesetzt. Daneben sah die Klobrille in unserem Zimmer wirklich ekelhaft aus. Ein Mülleimer mit Deckel wäre auch im Bad vorteilhafter - hier waren stets Geckos.

The location

Schöne und ruhige Lage auf dem Hügel. Mit dem Tuktuk ist man ganz schnell überall. Unbedingt Pickme App benutzen, sonst wird man mit Garantie abgezockt. Der Pool ist eine Oase. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und kümmert sich um alles. Nimesh der Manager hat alles im Griff und spricht perfekt Englisch. Thilak der Koch kümmert sich um das gute Frühstück und Essen generell. Die Zimmer sind gross und solide gebaut, es hat alles was man braucht. Alles ist generell gepflegt und wird für die lokalen Verhältnisse top in Schuss gehalten.

WC Deckel könnte mal ausgetauscht werden. Frühstück kam am 1. Tag sehr langsam und ohne Anleitung wie/was man wählen kann. Ab dem 2. Tag hats dann tiptop geklappt.

The cave room with the climbing walls and aquarium was amazing.

Location was a bit out of the way up a very steep hill. Also, there were quite a lot of mosquitoes.

We had only on night at the Horizon Hill Top Villa but it was really nice there! A very warm welcome with some fresh coconut, dinner at the balcony of our room and very friendly staff which helped us with all the needs we had. You can also rent a scooter there and book some trips directly at the reception. The room was also very clean and comfortable. I would definitely come back again!

An amazing place to stay! The rooms were spacious, clean and nicely decorated. The pool was clean with plenty of seating options. The Sri Lankan food the chef cooked was absolutely delicious and the host was incredibly friendly and helpful. The location is peaceful and perfect- situated on a hill away from the hustle and bustle of Unawatuna, but only a short walk away from Dalawella beach where you can see huge sea turtles! Monkeys even came to visit our balcony which was a great experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and wished we could stay longer. The Sri Lankan breakfast served on our balcony was a highlight.

There are a lot of mosquitos in the area due to the property being surrounded by jungle so we did get bitten a lot when eating in the restaurant and sitting round the pool. This is to be expected though. The hotel provided mosquito nets for the beds. The views more than made up for it.

The manager was very friendly and made sure our expectations were met. The accommodation gives away a free water bottles at the end of the stay, which, for me, is a thoughtful gesture even if it’s small. The room was clean and very nice. Both Sri Lankan and Western breakfasts were amazing. Especially the passion banana pool juice, it tasted like heaven. The amenities were superb.

A Turtle beach 15 perc gyalog, de tuktukkal olcsón bármelyik másik közeli partra el lehet jutni (Unawatuna,Jungle beach) Nagyon kellemes hetet töltöttünk itt két gyerekkel.

O quarto inicial dado não fechava as janelas, existindo uma abertura onde entrava mosquitos e outros bichos. A cortina para isolar a claridade também não corria. Solicitamos ao hotel ajuda que prontamente nos mudaram de quarto. Fomos para um quarto com casa de banho ao ar livre, o que para nós não foi agradável. Éramos ferrados por mosquitos constantemente ao tomar banho e na segunda noite, chovia e tivemos de tomar banho lá assim. O colchão não devia estar limpo porque sentíamos nos ferrados durante a noite e não encontrávamos nada no quarto que o justificasse.

Peaceful hideaway surrounded by nature with outstanding hospitality. I arrived early in the morning and was already able to get my room. The hotel is located in a very quiet and beautiful area, surrounded by lush greenery and a real jungle atmosphere. The elevated position offers a view of the ocean, perfect for guests looking to relax and disconnect. Wildlife is part of the experience, with occasional visits from monkeys and other animals, which adds to the charm. The staff, led by manager Nimesh, were exceptionally friendly, helpful and always smiling. I felt supported with every request. Also a mention goes to the chef Sandaruwan and the rest of the staff: the food was excellent throughout the stay, everyone always friendly and helpful. The Sri Lankan breakfast was a highlight as well as the seafood. I would 100% recommend this hotel and would happily stay here again.

The property gives a perfect chance to relax and connect with nature. While it is close to the beach side, it is far enough from the noise and crowd. Nimesh is really supportive in organising the transport, advising on places worth visiting. Chef cooks delicious local food. The whole experience was beyond my expectations.

Nimesh was een fijne gastheer. Voelden ons erg gezien en hij wilde van alles voor je regelen. Het is een prachtige locatie op de berg, een mooie oase van rust in de natuur. Kamer met badkamer waren erg netjes. In het algemeen is het super mooi aangelegd en fijn zwembad.

Alleen het ontbijt had van ons iets uitgebreider gemogen, met bijv nog wat fruit erbij.

The hotel was running low in staff or not able to provide meals. We were able to get breakfast for one morning. Other days got it from outside.

We spent a great vacation in this place. The room was spacious and had a beautiful jungle view. But the most pleasant for us was an acquaintance with a great administrator of this villa, Nimesh. He was very polite and helpful, explained to us how to get a tuk-tuk or which places it is worth to visit, arranged excursions for us and answered in detail every single question, which we had (and we had a lot). Thanks to Nimesh we’ve learnt a lot of interesting things about the country, its culture and religion. It is worth to underline apart the chef of the restaurant in the lobby. The dishes he cooked were something! We have never eaten so delicious fish and crab. I would say that the food in this place was the best on the island.

This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had, and I strongly advise everyone to avoid The Horizon Hilltop Villa. Our holiday was completely ruined due to the property’s shocking service standards, dishonesty, and negligence. 1. TV didn’t work from the moment we checked in. I informed them immediately, but despite assuring me they would fix it “in the morning,” nothing was done even after 24 hours. The manager gave ridiculous excuses like “no spare key,” which is unbelievable for a hotel. 2. Room was never cleaned even once. Used food plates were left for more than 24 hours. When I asked, they said housekeeping only works until 5 PM — yet they never cleaned during the entire day. Later, they changed the story again and claimed that cleaning is only done “after the second night,” which was never mentioned anywhere. 3. Basic amenities were missing. There was no blanket, no working phone, and no functioning TV. I had to repeatedly message them late at night just for a blanket. 4. Staff communication was unprofessional and full of excuses. The manager kept contradicting himself, editing messages, and giving unbelievable explanations. At one point, he even fabricated a story saying the room was “upgraded,” which is completely false. we never asked for any upgrade and nothing was upgraded. In fact we were supposed to have a sofa in the room, which wasn't there. 5. Zero transparency and absolutely no hospitality. Instead of taking responsibility, the staff kept blaming us( for not being in the room, so they can fix the TV, apparently they have only one key for the room... which was a hilarious excuse) for their own failures. Their attitude and behavior were dismissive and disrespectful. This place is poorly managed, unreliable, and not worth even half the price. The lack of cleanliness, missing amenities, and dishonest staff make it a property that should not be on Booking.com. Never going back, and I strongly advise everyone to avoid this place.

The staff was more than welcoming and very lovely. When we arrived it was a bit later and the cook gratefully made us some food which was just amazing!! We loved everything about the 2 nights we stayed here. We had breakfast included and each day they asked us what we want out of a selection which was very tasteful. The room was spacious and bed was comfy and all was clean. The view from the balcony was just beautiful! We'd stay here again!

Great staff

The hotel is a peaceful sanctuary away from the main road. Its so quiet and has an amazing pool area that over looks palm trees. Th room was a brilliant size and the staff were great and able to assist at any opportunity. It is up a steep hill so beware when booking this but we didnt mind as we like to walk. Great wifi available for free and a lovely sitting area within the reception. W e were also met with a welcome juice on arrival!

The hill is steep to get to the actual hotel.

Bungalow with seaview very nice. Monkeys, peacocks, squirrels and many birds to just sitting and look at on the veranda. Personnel was very nice.

The Horizon Hill Top is located away from the busy beach roads on a hill. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The staff are cheery and helpful. We did use a tuk tuk to come and go but if you're a keen walker you could manage it. The pool is lovely.

There are a lot of steps which will not suit anyone with bad knees!

The chef is a great cook!

They had some issues with the water pump on the first night but the second day they sorted that issue out! The breakfast was very expensive for what it was but the food was really good so compliments to the chef!

Fantastic view from the balcony, could spend all day there – real jungle vibes. Lovely breakfast every morning and the staff was helpful with their suggestions. During the way, whenever we asked for something (like water bottles) we got it quickly, the staff was very helpful and nice.

Maybe more toilet paper is needed for a week stay, but when we asked for it, we got it. The wi-fi was not working very well (we got the password, but works for one device only). Would be nice to have more fresh juices available.

Lovely stay, beautiful room and well secluded location. We got our own house which was a very pleasant surprise och the ”outside bathroom” was very nice. Good shower pressure!

As the bathroom was outside and the ceiling of the bathroom was hen net/wire net, we had quite a few mosquitoes which ruined the experience of the bathroom a bit. Adding a mosquito net on top of the ceiling should not be a hard to do. My girlfriend got a back and shoulder massage but in was unfortunately not got.

It is a nice quite place if you want to relax and do not plan to go and see anything else. Staff is hospitable. Great pool with jungle view.

Lots of lizards and other "nature" on territory, who like to get to your room. The hotel is located on a hill, as you could understand from its name, and it is very inconvenient. All tuk-tuk drivers will refuse to drive you up to entry, and you have to climb up and down by yourself everytime.

Cute, lonely villa in the jungle with one of the most amazing pools ever! The micro-location of the pool and the vibe is excellent, best sun-beds we had in Sri Lanka with comfiest cushions. Shower in the room is also cool, room is spacious and there is a mosquito net over the bed. Amazing breakfast with curry if you order traditional breakfast.

A bit neglected rooms with some visible mold and there are plenty of little animals like ants, grasshoppers and other bugs in the room, even in the bed. Bathroom is also a bit neglected.

The room was great! The hot tub was unique and really the star of the room making it very enjoyable, the layout of the room and bathroom made it quite nice to stay more than. The Sri Lanka breakfast was really delicious and the bedding was clean and comfy.

Spiders. There's a long walk from the lobby to the room which is unavoidable and has a bunch of stairs. Some tuk tuks don't like going up the hill, and drop you off at the bottom of it and you have to hike up with your stuff when this happens... which is kind of unpleasant. The pool had a bunch of fallen leaves (cause it was raining) that took too long to clean up, so we never got a chance to test out the pool.

We arrived quite late at night and the staff were happy to make us dinner. The bed size was bigger than we expected and had a mosquito net.

During our stay, we encountered several issues that were disappointing. It was raining, and the bathroom started leaking rainwater. When we informed the staff, their response was, "It's an open glass shower." However, the real issue was that the shower glass was broken in half, which was clearly not intentional. Additionally, the shower didn’t function at all. We had also requested breakfast at a specific time and ensured the staff member wrote it down to avoid any confusion. Despite this, when we arrived at the restaurant the following morning, the staff were completely unaware of our request, causing delays that made me late for my meeting. Finally, there were bugs everywhere—both outside and inside our room—which made the stay even less comfortable.

This place felt like a proper retreat. Beautiful accommodation nestled in nature with great views. Room was spacious and well appointed with a view of the valley where you could sit on the terrace and watch monkeys, chipmunks and exotic birds. The Ayurvedic treatments were also very good with this ideal setting.

This villa is truly wonderful, offering all the necessary amenities and a serene, peaceful environment. In the mornings, you can enjoy the sight of a variety of beautiful birds. The hospitality here is exceptional. We went diving in Unawatuna at 8 AM and chose to skip breakfast beforehand, as having a heavy meal isn't ideal before diving. We planned to have our breakfast afterward, but due to an unexpected delay, we returned to the villa at 12:45 PM. Despite it being well past breakfast time, the Office Manager, Mr. Thilak, kindly prepared and served our meal without any hesitation. I deeply appreciate this level of service — it was excellent. Moreover, the breakfast was incredibly tasty and delicious. I highly recommend this villa, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to Mr. Thilak and the kind staff for their outstanding hospitality.

Beautifully designed resort with a beautiful jungle and ocean view. Friendly Staff.

The property is located further back from the main part of Unawatuna but I liked this as I prefer being away from the sea. It is a quiet oasis of tranquility. The room was amazing - it had a lovely big 4 poster bed which was like sleeping on a cloud. I loved the open roof bathroom with the stunning shower which had hot water. The pool was fab and clean. The service was great and friendly and the food was amazing. The portions were huge and the dishes were all freshly made. We had the biggest prawns and a huge tuna steak. The vegetable curries are a trio of delicious curries, highly recommend.

We stayed in double deluxe room with pool view, and it was one of the most surprising, unusual and exciting rooms we have been to in Sri Lanka. We entered it and gasped - we had alive fish in the aquarium in the bathroom, and our furniture was made out of concrete, with one wall being literally a rock. We also really loved the pool, it’s big, clean. overall staff takes good care of the facilities with keeping it beautiful and clean.

The location is something to consider. If you like to stay in the jungle and see monkeys from the swimming pool - it’s is awesome, but if you want to be able to quickly reach Una, or other city, or better beaches than the one next to hotel, you have to count with ~1000 LKR for tuktuk every time you go out of villa or get back. We did not enjoy the breakfast much as well, but other dishes in the cafe we ordered were fine.

We loved the location of this place. Yes it's a trek from the town (we tried to walk it one day but it was too hot so got a tuktuk), but we enjoyed being away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Our room had a beautiful view and we enjoyed watching lightning storms, as well as monkeys from our room. The room was beautiful - huge and very well designed. The breakfasts were also good. We didn't have the evening meals, which looked expensive compared to other restaurants. If in the area we'd stay again.

Minor thing but the floor in our room could be quite slippery if we wore socks!
