Charming Blue

The room was large, spacious, & elegant.

We had to move rooms to the main building because A/C did not work.

I had a wonderful trip with husband who's family is from the island. We will definitely be staying here in the future.

I wish the beds were more comfortable.

Fabulous hotel! Excellent facilities right in the heart of town. We were there during festival and it was so much fun. The pool was amazing. The breakfast was diverse and tasty. The staff was friendly and helpful. They assisted with setting up our tours and taxis. I highly recommend this hotel.

I loved all of the staff. They were authentic and warm - a very relaxed atmosphere. The AC was amazing and very needed in August. The whole building and equipment is in excellent shape.

Location - The hotel is right in the middle of the city and very convenient for all local amenities, which are walkable. The room was fairly spacious.

This is not really a hotel of a 4-star standard. Reception is not 24/7, and even during the hours of operation, it is often empty. Breakfast was of a very mediocre standard, with rubber-like pre-cooked scrambled eggs, overcooked sausage and a meagre selection of charcuterie. The breakfast attendant was akin to a dragon - that, plus the food quality, made us forsake breakfast from day two, and instead we found a local coffee shop to sustain us. Our room was generally clean, but the quality of pillows, bed linen and towels was not of a 4-star hotel. For a couple of days of our stay, our room was not cleaned at all. The safe in our room was miniscule - barely big enough to hold our passports. We ended up locking our other valuables in our suitcase... The pool water was cold, so the pool is unusable really, unless one is into cold water swimming. Overall, although we will return to Santa Maria, we are unlikely to return to Charming Blue.

Charming Blue is een comfortabele uitvalsbasis voor je verblijf op Santa Maria. Het personeel is erg vriendelijk en de kamers zijn ruim. De bedden zijn goed, de badkamer heeft een fijne douche. Het ontbijt is gevarieerd en voorziet in een goed begin van de dag. Het was een plezierige ervaring mijn wandelvakantie te starten en te eindigen in Charming Blue.

A área exterior estava bem conseguida. O quarto era espaçoso, a super varanda também é um excelente ponto positivo. No geral, o quarto é bastante bom. Possibilidade de check-in cedo.

O pequeno-almoço tem de ser melhorado. Um Hotel de 4 estrelas não faz sentido as compotas serem diretamente do frasco. Fruta laminada seca. Não há grande variedade, não há música ambiente, apenas o barulho das máquinas. Água em garrafas de plástico com um diploma em boas práticas de sustentabilidade, não faz muito sentido. São pequenos detalhes que fazem a diferença.

Im Zimmer gibt es keinen Wasserkocher und keine Kaffeemaschine. Ansonsten war alles Top.

Sehr zentrale Lage im Ort. Sehr freundliches Personal am Empfang. Hübsches kleines Hotel mit schönen Zimmern und kleinem Pool. Im Hotel hat man auch die Möglichkeit Abends Essen zu gehen.

Zimmer sind etwas klein und die Zimmer könnten besser isoliert sein. Lärm von der Straße vom Verkehr ist schon sehr gut zu hören, war aber Nachts kein Problem da so wie kein Verkehr dann mehr. Hat nur tagsüber ein bisschen gestört. Frühstück war ausreichend hätte aber besser sein können ( nicht von der Qualität sondern von der Auswahl und Abwechslung)

Lenzuola sintetiche, asciugamani che dopo il primo utilizzo puzzano. un giorno hanno saltato le pulizie e ci siamo rifatti il letto scoprendo coprimaterassi macchiati (!!!) e materassi puntinati di muffa su ambo i lati. Ho tenuto le foto in caso di scuse pietose. La Colazione è molto basica. Synthetic sheets, towels that stink after the first use. One day they skipped cleaning, and we made our beds to find stained mattress covers (!!!) and moldy mattresses on both sides. I've kept the photos in case a pious apology is needed. Breakfast is very basic.

Nos gustó la ubicación, las instalaciones estaban bien, piscina buena, pero la habitación da a una terraza compartida con el resto de habitaciones de ese ala, y eso genera falta de privacidad.

El desayuno muy muy básico para un hotel catalogado como 4 estrellas. Ni fruta ni panes ni embutido ni .. nada en condiciones. El personal (a excepción de la señora más mayor) no tenían ganas de trabajar, te invitan a ponerte un café americano de garrafa en vez de hacértelo en la máquina de café de la que disponen. Desayuno de hotel 2 estrellas como mucho.

Chambres avec vue sur ville donnent directement sur un Wine Bar (très sympa) mais du coup, les gens en profitent le matin pour s’y installer dès 7 heures en attendant de partir en randonnée ou pour la plongée - idem certains s’installent sur les tables, alors que le bar est fermé - pour discuter jusqu’à 2 heures du matin ! Petit déjeuner moyen, linge de bain qui sent le renfermé

Zentral liegendes Hotel in guter Lage mit landestypischen Frühstück und sehr netten Personal. Schöne, speziell dekorierte Zimmer und ein Pool ist auch vorhanden. Ein gutes Restaurant ist im Haus, eine Reservierung für den Abend ist empfehlenswert.

Vielleicht ein wenig mehr Auswahl beim Frühstück.

Charming Blue is a lovely hotel with great location in the centre of the main town on the island. It’s near shops, restaurants and the taxi rank which was really useful. The hotel is well designed, feels spacious and is clean. We enjoyed the breakfast and had dinner there one night which was also good. It’s got a nice lounge and pool area also. The staff were all really helpful. We would highly recommend the hotel.

A buffet type breakfast consisted of hot and cold options with plenty of variety. The restaurant served a good selection of food to suit all tastes. The hotel is ideally situated in the town center with a bonus on a small swimming pool/terrace. It is an ideal location to explore the rest of the island.

Nice rooms, comfy beds, good shower. Rented bikes, they were good too. The hotel even provided us with a packed breakfast as our flight was too early.

This is a charming hotel, the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. As it was our honeymoon, we arrived to a small bottle of champagne, biscuits and a bed decorated with hearts and flowers, such a lovely thought. The staff were all friendly, efficient and courteous. The hotel restaurant had excellent food and wine.

The balcony was only a juliet, so we were unable to sit on it. There was no kettle or tea/coffee in the room. The air-conditioning couldn't be altered, just really cold or off and then it stopped working altogether. Breakfast could be more varied and perhaps a small change each day.

Every day air conditioner went off at 11 am not put back on until 4 pm, during the night it would shut of again. We complain everyday, we were not the only guests complaining.

Dinners in the restaurant were very good.

Breakfasts could have been better and more varied.

The property was centrally located in Vila do Porto

My room was not cleaned following the first night of my stay despite my leaving the card outside requesting that it be cleaned and apart from it remaining unclean I was left with no water or toiletries (which were minimal in any event - a tiny amount of shampoo and shower gel). When I raised this with the young man at reception he didn’t offer a single word of apologies or seek to resolve the problem (I have to say I found his manner quite uncommunicative and unfriendly during my stay). When I sought water for my room he told me to go to the restaurant for it and they wanted to charge me for the bottle of water. Their whole attitude was uncaring, indifferent and inactive. I told them I would be commenting on my experience to Booking.com but they didn’t seem to be bothered by this. I had to demand shower gel and shampoo at reception that night as they made no effort ti provide it.

Nice big room on second floor with small balcony, chairs and table looking out over the hills and swimming pool, nice, clean and quiet. Staff helpful and pleasant, everything handled smoothly. Breakfast was good, fried eggs to order as was americano,coffee and expresso. Our stay would have been better if weather had cooperated,but otherwise a great stay.

Not a dislike but restaurant was on the expensive side compared to some excellent restaurants up the road.

This is a nice hotel, but not as good as I expected for the price.

For the room price, I was rationed to 1 small bottle of water over 2 nights. Tiny shampoo / shower gel bottles are very outdated and wasteful. Shower wasn't very clean too.

Coffee at breakfast was in a thermos which was cold. When I asked to get a new coffee the staff heated up my cup only. Even though there is a new espresso machine and idling staff. I didn’t feel special. And a congregation of 6 staff gossiping together quite loud by the coffee area 3 days every morning no one is working. Maybe management can offer extra duties.

I would describe this as a mixed review because although there were good points, there are some downsides but it is difficult to tell whether this is because we came towards the end of the season or not. This hotel is in a good location in the main high street of the small town. To be fair you are limited with places to stay as it is so small. The actual hotel was clean and tidy and the room a good size with a comfy bed and good shower. The staff were also very nice and helpful. The hotel was quiet. The pool was also a good size and clean. The breakfast wasn't anything special but fine...Continental, toast, bread, yoghurts and fruit with coffee and tea. The hot food was only scrambled eggs and hot dog sausages.

Only a couple of small things ...I stayed here as a couple to do scuba diving. The breakfast does not start until 8am which is too late for divers. Unfortunately the earliest they could do was 7.45 and although they did offer to do a take away bag, this is obviously not as nice as sitting down for your coffee and breakfast. My other disappointment was that the place lacked any real character/atmosphere. During breakfast there were other people in the hotel eating but it was so quiet that it felt a little uncomfortable (appreciate this mat just be me) but a little bit of gentle background music for breakfast and even in the restaurant would have made it much nicer.

Quiet place, not a huge hotel, colonial arquitetura, tastefully refurbished. Aircon. Great location.

The room faced the front of the building so looking on to the main road - noisy if windows open. For a “4-star” hotel, having to pay for coffee or tea as no facilities in the room disappointing. Staff in breakfast buffet struggled to restock everything, so had to ask for many items every morning. Seems like hotel is saving on some essentials. No shower cap, and we had to use our shopping bag for bathroom bin liner - which remained in place for 3 days!

Guys, I'll just repeat my 2018/19 review. A great hotel, comfortable clean and great rooms, good view, good location, absolutely fantastic knowledgable and warm staff which reacted quickly to every whish, question problem. Also great laundry service. What can I tell you? Book it

the restaurant struggled a bit, my neighbors weren't easy but the staff took care of it.

Overall, the property is a successful transformation of a historic property, some of the stone features of which have been expertly preserved. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast offerings were fine for us.

These are not major concerns, but we note them nevertheless: room ventilation was inadequate (you cannot self-regulate the temperature or air flow with the wall-mounted control; we were told air circulation would occur at some unknown hours during the day and/or night, but never did as far as we could tell); since there was no window, the only way to get fresh air was to open the door to the communal balcony shared by 4 rooms- not ideal at night; the symphony of nearby barking dogs woke us up twice in 3 nights; the (small, non-boutique) shower struggled to produce hot water; the mini- refrigerator, enclosed in a badly-ventilated cabinet, produced more heat than cold; the take-away breakfast box prepared because we had an early flight, although a welcome gesture, was underwhelming (apple, a thin slice of processed ham and cheese between 2 slices of cardboard white bread and a glass of juice).
