Reviewed Sep 13, 2026It's in a safe area . I arrived late and called to check in , the security was so kind and helpful and quick to respond . I loved staying there, even if it was for the night. It was so cosey and clean and quiet , the views are so beautiful, right by the river and the birds chirping in the morning sounds so peaceful. I loved i wished I stayed a bit longer.

I've booked the De Lux room at more than a R1000 per night. The room was SO small that I didn't had anywhere to punt my small overnight suitcase. The kitchen was SO small that I didn't have any space to put my small (20cm x 20cm) coolerbag. Not a single chair in the bedroom. AND ON TOP OF IT ALL, A SINGLE ELECTRIC BLANKET WAS PUT ON A DUBBLE BED!!!!! I called the manager and showed him all the problems. Nothing was done about it. Not even a R500 discount or a free breakfast.

Room had NO hot water, phoned reception, and they gave us another room key and said there was hot water in that room 2 doors down.. which there wasn't! Only found that out a minute into my shower when the water just disappeared. After my cold shower, I had to walk outside in 5-degree weather to get back to my room. Electric blanket only worked on 3, so I woke up freezing cold as I turned it to 1 before falling asleep, and it wasn't working. TV has so many apps but isn't logged in, so could just as well not supply a TV. Booked room for 4 people and got 2 glasses for water. Checked out, handed my keys to reception, and wasn't even asked if everything was okay, did I enjoy my stay... nothing. The family downstairs also had no hot water and was offered keys for the next door room, so it's obviously pretty normal.. they mentioned something to do with their solar setup, but for paying guests, its unacceptable, especially as it was very, very cold in Aliwal. Maintenance in the rooms is very overdue. We were rather disappointed as the location is beautiful.

Reviewed Jul 20, 2026We had a lovely and very comfortable stay at The Riverside Lodge and Conference Centre. Our room was spotlessly clean and quite large. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed a very tasty breakfast in the restaurant. I would be very happy to return anytime.

The bed had oily stains, the toilet made a huge noise for a long time every time we used it, the aircon was not clear on how to increase it and it was freezing, the toilet system and pipes and the oily bed was not nice.

We did not sleep at all because the top floor is wooden. When people on the top floor walk or doing anything you can hear them clearly. That spoiled our nights and the whole experience.

Linen was clean and fresh. Coffee, tea, sugar well stocked. Bathrooms clean. Cleaning staff was very friendly and helpful as was the security. Beautiful, well kept gardens.
General revamp needed as stairs to 1st floor "dodgy" looking. Some looked rotten and in need of repair or repaint. Carpets were stained and a very good clean or replacement recommended. I booked 3 rooms and in all the carpets looks dirty.
