We had a good stay at Villa Amma Erna! A little escape from the busy places. The team were incredibly welcoming and made sure we were truly spoilt throughout our stay. Even though it was a last-minute booking on the very same day, Anitha made us feel completely at ease. She also ensured everything was taken care of, especially when we had to leave early: breakfast and our journey were sorted for every day until we left. The breakfast spread is different each day to let you have their local taste. Minutes to Unawatuna and Galle. Highly recommended!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

There can be quite a bit of animal noise to wake you up each morning, which may be a little uncomfortable if you’re a light sleeper or hoping for a good lie-in during your holiday and whether you’re comfortable without air conditioning.

Villa Amma Erna ist wunderschön! Das Open House Konzept fühlt sich ein bisschen wie ein Zuhause an. Die Zimmer sind toll eingerichtet, sehr sauber und das Essen ist unbeschreiblich gut und einfach mal etwas anderes. In der Umgebung gibt es nicht viel, aber mit dem Tuk Tuk ist man innerhalb von 10-15 min (und für 2-3€) in Galle oder in Unawatuna am Strand. Anitha, die gemeinsam mit dem Team für die Gäste da ist, ist die Beste! Sie hat unseren Aufenthalt noch besser gemacht!

Eigentlich nichts. Gleichzeitige gab es den ein oder anderen Moment an dem wir uns richtige Fenster in eine AC gewünscht hätten.

We loved the villa on a little hill with a beautiful view. Amazing accommodation with lovely, sweet staff. They make the breakfast, it was amazing. The whole constructie of the villa was all beautiful to see.

Was a little bit too much animal sounds during the night for us. It’s amazing but a little bit too noisy.

This was the most amazing experience. The staff were incredible and the food was some of the best we had in Sri Lanka. We received a really warm welcome and an espresso on arrival. The villa is in the most perfect hillside spot and we watched monkeys in the trees before brunch. The breakfast is incredible- really imaginative half Sri lankan half western dishes with so much fresh food and flavour. The chef is incredible so we did a cookery class with her which was amazing. The spa treatments were unreal. I had the best massage I've ever had. The manager was so friendly and kind and just really wanted to help us enjoy our stay. There's no Aircon but the room is so cool because of the fans and the outside breeze that it really did not matter. There's also no alcohol but the staff helped us get a tuktuk for very little money to a liquor store for wine. We really felt so at home there. It's a very 'help yourself/make yourself at home' vibe that you feel from the moment you enter the property.

the worst was this very unfriendly dark lady who says she is the friend of the owner was very unwelcoming, was very rude, there is NO ACs in the room so its very HOT and windows are open so its Noisy.

The room was large and that was it

1. The photos of pool area on Booking.com do not represent reality . In reality there is large brick fence so any view of the jungle from pool area is completely blocked . I raised this direct with lady who appeared to be in charge and she said the owner intends updating the photos . Not good enough in my view . 2. Breakfast is NOT included. They offer what they call a brunch which commences at 9.30 am completely outside normal breakfast hours. It was ok but below expectations. After brunch the staff sit down and eat the leftovers in front of you . Never seen this before having travelled Sri Lanka a number of times sometimes up to 5 weeks a visit . 3. The villa is in a bad location . I utilised Uber and Pickme Apps a number of times and more often than not the driver didn’t attend as they didn’t know where the place is . There are no cafes , restaurant close by so you are stuck with no options close by. 4. There is no fridge in the room and no aircon, just 2 fans . 5. The reviews state the property is an architectural masterpiece. You have to be kidding me . I’m very suspicious of the reviews for this property and if they are genuine. The design is very minimalist i understand that but it’s just not attractive. The furniture in the eating area looks like something out of a cheap office . 6. Staff were ok , meant well but lacked the warmth of many other places I have stayed in Sri Lanka . In summary, I was disappointed and regret booking here .

Très belle villa, parfaitement entretenue et très propre. L’endroit est vraiment agréable et reposant. Nous y avons très bien mangé et l’accueil a été particulièrement chaleureux. L’équipe a été adorable avec nous : après notre check-out, ils nous ont laissé profiter de la piscine toute la journée, car notre avion partait tard, et nous avons même pu prendre une douche avant de partir. Une attention vraiment appréciable. La villa se trouve dans un quartier calme, un peu à l’écart de l’agitation de Galle et Unawatuna, ce qui rend le séjour très reposant. Vous pourrez rejoindre la ville facilement en Tuktuk pour moins de 2€ Une très belle adresse que nous recommandons sans hésiter.

Das Hotel ist sehr schön und wird mit sehr viel Liebe geführt. Das Essen ist super, das beste Frühstück, dass wir in Sri Lanka hatten. Das Personal ist super freundlich.

Wir hatten leider überlesen, dass es keine AC gibt. Außerdem haben die Fenster keine Scheiben sondern nur Netze. Weswegen die Umgebungsgeräusche im Zimmer unaufgehalten hörbar sind. Es stehen Ohropax zur Verfügung. Am Pool ist inzwischen leider eine Mauer erstellt, weswegen der Blick vom Pool nicht mehr so schön ist wie auf den Bildern.

Purtroppo bisogna considerare che non ci sono né imposte né finestre ma solo frangisole e zanzariere quindi alle 6 del mattino dovete usare mascherina e tappi x la vicinanza ad altre case ,alla strada rumorosa , ai diversi animali e bambini urlanti….

Tout, le personnel était très gentil. L’hôtel est intimiste et familiale on s’y sent chez soi. Les repas/ brunch étaient incroyable

We have traveled a lot around the world, but this place was like a fairytale. If you like nature (birds, squirrels, monkeys), a clean room (with bath), and most important: the feeling like your home, you should go to this place. There are a few rooms, so it feels like you have a whole villa for yourself and the staff is always ready to help you!

Everything was perfect!

The beautiful villa offers the possibility to fully blend in the nature, surrounded by animals’ sound and green landscape. We loved the calm and peace just 15 min outside the center of Galle. The staff and the owner are absolutely amazing people and prepared us a delicious breakfast every morning. We would definitely come back.

El desayuno fue excepcional, cada día variado, en cantidad y convivial. Bonita arquitectura. Muy buen gusto decorativo. La lavandería funciona bien.

En la habitación no habían 3 paredes ni ventanas solo mosqueteras por lo que no había intimidad, ni de ruidos, ni de temperatura ni de bichos, ni de luz. Las mosqueteras tienen cierto tiempo y están con agujeros. Pedí cancelar segunda noche porque cogí un resfriado y no me dieron opción. Por otro lado no hicieron el cuarto entre un día y otra noche de hospedaje. Acaso complicado hasta la casa. El cuarto con bañera no tiene ducha por lo que es incómodo lavarse a diario.

Wir wurden schon zu Hause sehr warmherzig von Anitha betreut, betreffend Transfer und persönlichen Wünschen. Amma Erne ist ein wundervoller Ort. So herzlich, als wäre man zu Hause. Alle Mitarbeiter waren super freundlich. Das Essen war ein Gedicht. So gut, dass wir gleich einen Kochkurs buchten. Alles ist wunderbar hergerichtet. Ich komme das nächste Mal ganz bestimmt wieder hierher. Danke für alles.

Everything was just perfect! The location is not too far from the center of Galle (15 min with the tuk tuk) which is ideal if you want to have some peace and quiet. The staff on site and the owner of the Villa are just great and super caring of your need, they love to talk to you and support if you need anything during your stay and overall trip. They planned for us the safari at UdaWalawe and it was great! Anita, the villa manager, is also amazing with Ayurvedic massages ! They cook for you for breakfast lunch and dinner if wanted and the food is very good. The stay really felt being at home and very cozy, very intimate. There are only 4 rooms which make it special.

Of course being in the nature there are a lot of noises and animals that wake you up in the morning like birds, monkey and peacocks, but it’s also part of the experience. If I could change something, I would only make the breakfast more continental with less traditional and local food, because a lot of people are not used to eat that straight in the morning. I wouldn’t change anything else!

Wir waren zum zweiten Mal bei Ann und ihrem Team und wir lieben diesen Ort! Es fühlt sich an wie ein kleines Paradies - das Frühstück ist GENIAL und auch die Option für Nachtessen war sehr lecker.

Nichts, wir würden jederzeit wieder hier buchen! Danke für diesen wundervollen Ort :)

Super fijne tijd hier gehad, er wordt goed voor je gezorgd en het ontbijt is heerlijk! Echt een B&B waar je wil verblijven. We hebben ook een massage geboekt, deze is ook zeker aan te raden!

The villa is an architectural pearl. The owner and her team do everything to make you feel comfortable. If you expect sound-proof rooms, thick sink-in carpets or whiskey-tasting: this is definitely not your accommodation. If you can appreciate nice, home-made (organic) food, being part of local nature and culture, well-equipped rooms (fan, no a/c) this hide-away could enrich body, soul and positive feelings about Sri Lanka.

De massage was niet mogelijk ivm vakantie. Ook was er geen mogelijkheid voor diner bij aankomst, dus dan maar zelf op pad. Helaas, we hadden ons op beiden verheugd.

Die offene Bauweise war sehr ansprechend. Unser Zimmer entsprach den Bildern und wir waren während unseres Aufenthaltes die einzigen Gäste. Das Frühstück war Täglich frisch und abwechslungsreich. Das Personal war sehr freundlich.

Der Pool ist ein bisschen in die Jahre gekommen. - Es handelt sich nicht wie angegeben um ein Hotel. Die Unterkunft ist ein Bed and Breakfast. Die Beschreibung ist an dieser Stelle Irreführend.

Breakfast and Wolly. Also the locals working there are the most sweetest individuals and very helpful.

The location- way inside from the main road. difficult to find the property. AC - no AC in the room. Fan is there but not sufficient given the hot weather. An air cooler is preferable No windows- the outside noise is very loud given no windows and the net covering the room is dirty thereby disrupting the view. Peacocks n other animals are too loud and disturbing. WIFI was weak and most of the times didnt connect. No shataf in the toilet. Bathroom is open concept.

A hidden gem, indeed. We really appreciate Anitha’s hospitality and all of the things this place offers. We had a great time. It’s difficult to leave “a home”. Everything’s delicious. The host always have good tips for local stuff. Will come back to this gem.

It takes us a while to adapt the hot summer nights while sleeping. But I love the idea of sustainable living.

The staff went above and beyond. The food is amazing - they pride themselves on the brunch and it was a full spread, community vibe, and it was the most memorable meal I had in Sri Lanka. The breakfast spread is so unique and outstanding. The villa has a very calming energy and rooms are big and spacious. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

Amazing minimalistic interior design, wonderful people, very generous breakfast. Wonderful private place for romantic getaway. Just three rooms, so there is a lot of space very close to nature.

A little bit complicated to sleep without earplugs (which are provided), as the birds are singing very loud and there are no windows in the room, just mosquito nets.

The food (a truly delectable brunch with locally sourced ingredients), the location (peaceful, surrounded by nature and greenery), the architecture (tasteful Béton brut with Tropical Modernism) and Anne’s hospitality!

There is a lot of animal noise. I didn’t think it was a problem, but it can be if you are a light sleeper. Also, I thought the dinner, which you can decide to eat at the villa, was overpriced.

The views from the property were absolutely amazing! We could just hang out by the pool in the morning and watch the peacock and monkeys fool around which was a blast. The room was perfect with high ceilings, an abundance of natural sunlight (can shade if you want), and as clean as can be. The host and staff couldn’t have been more kind! They helped arrange rides, provided local dining options, activities to consider…pretty much you name it! The breakfast spread we had in the morning was, without question, the best we had during our trip! We couldn’t have been happier with the little time we were able to have there & we owe it all to the amazing people running it!!! ☺️

That it’s not next door to us back home!

Just beautiful building I was in love with! But unfortunately not suitable for me at all( I couldn’t sleep at all because of loud sounds of the jungle around. In the room you have only grid on the windows, no glass and almost no walls) I didn’t notice, so partly is my fault of course. I spent only one night there and moved to another place in Gale. Outside area and swimming pool is really beautiful, but the room definitely need some renovation.

breakfast was very nice and flexible. They actually moved the time to make sure that we were also having breakfast. Also, they helped us a lot.

I think I loved the place, to be frank, it is so hard to say what you did not like, it is more about the price It was maybe a bit too expensive for Srilanka in general, but in short, they were fantastic host, and they had a beautiful swimming pool and only noisy thing was a beautiful peacock who is literally resident of the area and is awake as soon as the day is on.

A beautiful villa decorated in a modern and minimalist style, but very fitting to the surroundings. The room was big and comfortable. Additionally, the staff was very open and friendly. I felt comfortable there.

Short drive from restaurants in fort Galle, surrounded by nature. This property was originally built as a family home and it has not lost that essence. Anne, the host made the experience so personal and welcoming. 🏳️‍🌈 The breakfast was the best we had on our entire Sri Lankan trip. Prepared in house by a qualified Ayurvedic doctor. Delicious, healthy, organic and local produce. The property is so unique, if you are into architecture, this one is a must!

There was nothing not to like.

Amazing hospitality and unique style, location and dining. Also on site massage options available and our host allowed us to use the pool while we waited for our late flight. Would happily return, was a highlight of the trip

This is an exceptional place to stay - we could not recommend it more highly. Beautiful jungle location teaming with birds and wildlife, gorgeous tasteful rooms, convenient location near Galle Fort and all the nearby beaches. Best of all were the staff. Anitha ran the most seamless operation and is a world class masseuse - make sure to try one of her treatments. Hashani’s food was the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka by far. Perera went out of his way to make us feel welcome and keep the place spotless.

Staff are amazing, very friendly and provide lots of useful advice for your first time in Sri Lanka. Rooms are very beautiful and comfortable, regulating the heat really well without the need for AC. Love the family style breakfast and dinner. Delicious food, with a mix of western and Sri Lankan elements. Highly recommend some of the Ayurveda massage treatments performed by Anitha. Amazing value and you feel incredible after! Thank you

Location is a little awkward, in that it’s off from the main tourist spots, so a lot of tuk tuk drivers have some difficulty locating it. That said, hotel can assist with getting you a tuk tuk or driver. Pool is very nice, but in need of a little TLC as do some other areas of the property, which at the price point you’d expect to be looked at.

Gorgeous place with the best hosts. They were helpful and friendly at all times. Such delicious food for breakfast and dinner. Short journey to Galle fort so you’re not in the main tourist area which is great. Lots of animals to see on the property!

We had so nice time with wife in this Vila. Stuff very friendly. We became a friends, last evening we went to ABBA concert together. We felt like we at home. Also, we had so delicious breakfast and dinner!!! Thank you and recommend to come here! 5 Stars for sure!

Ann and her team were perfect hosts. We felt very welcome from the very first moment until we left. “Home away from home”! And just on top the brunch/breakfast was amazing! Every day something different and all soooo good!

The villa is absolutely stunning! That is not even to the mention the incredible hospitality of the host and her team, and the delicious brunch in the morning! We felt very spoiled!

Wow! I was able to spend 2 nights in the beautiful accommodation and can only recommend it with all my heart! The staff are very accommodating and warm with great attention to detail. The breakfast was incredible and there were great food and activity recommendations from the hosts that you could take advantage of. I also had a great Ayurveda treatment, which was the cherry on top of the stay - it was really great and I felt very comfortable at all times. You can tell that the hosts care a lot about the safety and well-being of their guests - a really great experience and a really great team. The location gave you great opportunities to see the wildlife around the accommodation and recharge your batteries - the perfect getaway spot.

The interior design was nice.

The check out was at 11am. The place was not naturally cooled. It was hot as can be and the mosquitoes were eating us alive. The fans were just not sufficient in this heat. For the price, it was really not worth to be suffering in the heat. My bad for not reading that there was AC. But worst of all is the location of the place, the drivers can’t seem to find it because the google maps address is not accurate and you have to constantly call someone to speak to the driver to get you to the right address. On top of that, despite them telling you that the staff are available 24/7 - no one was. There were some other guests who were making so much noise at midnight and no matter what we complained, no one addressed it.

The hotel offered a fantastic breakfast, the best we got during our trip through Sri Lanka. Anita and her team was lovely!

Being in the middle of the jungle , animals are nearby and you will hear them especially in the morning, but don’t worry: the staff will give you earplugs !

We really loved our one night stay here on the day before Xmas eve. The villa is stunning, such beautiful architectural design inside and the pool. We were also really moved by the reason the property was built - what a lovely idea. We ate dinner and breakfast here. We loved the Sri Lankan breakfast where we met others guests- the food was delicious.

We knew before from reviews but just a heads up the open concept of the building means you can hear all animals throughout the night. It’s not a negative just something to be aware of.

The water pressure in the bathroom was terrible, so it was bad bathing experience on all three days!

The food was excellent; Shirani, Anitha & Pererra were absolutely amazing and so helpful and friendly; the rooms were comfortable; the pool area was so cool to chill around.

The building is very modern, stylish and furnished with an amazing taste. The host and the complete staff are very attentive and supported us with great tips for our journey. The room is very spacious and impressive without windows that gives a nice breeze the whole time (there are fly screens and shutters though). The breakfast is in a brunch style with just amazing and tasty dishes. The dishes vary in the mornings and contain fruits, freshly baked bread with homemade jam and butter and different warm meals as well as a dessert. The breakfast is of an outstanding quality served by a very nice staff.

Beautiful rooms and facilities. We stayed together with the owner, her husband and kids. We shared a lovely meal the first night and got to know the people. The staff working there was really nice and helpful and cooked really good breakfast for us.

The only bad thing for us it was really noisy area with alot og animals around, but the hotel probided us with earplugs so it was no problem afterall.

The fabric in the common areas are somewhat worn and needs to be rennovated. For example the pool area paving and pool lights not working. The rooms are fine.
