Ngati Ruanui Mountain Lodge

It was a fantastic experience from start to finish, from the pro-active call prior to arrival, to the very very friendly welcome, a nice and clean room that could be heated properly if wanted, large bed, the nook with a desk and view straight into Mt Taranaki (when visible - we were lucky enough to be able to), a nice bathroom with a large spa bath. we had dinner on site on one night with their brand new menu - and it was fantastic!! Way beyond what I had expected, tasty, good portions, attention to detail in the recipes and the presentation. Joanne was very much looking after us, and she and the team made us feel genuinely welcome. The location as such is amazing, peaceful and quiet, surrounded by the fascinating native dense forest, with walking tracks as short as 15mins and as ling as you like starting right at the lodge. Overall, we genuinely enjoyed our 3 nights at the lodge, and can highly recommend it.

I’m all in for constructive feedback; but there was nothing I would have wanted any other way.

Meals were great, service friendly and professional. When the snow came down the team stepped up in a calm manner and were really helpful when we had to relocate to another unit. Helped us pack the car and guided me patiently when I had to get the car out of the snow!

I think it would be good to have a lower cost, lighter breakfast option, e.g. a self-help table with cereal, fruit and milk. We also didn't realise the place actually closed on Sunday night, so we didn't have a breakfast option on the Monday. A head's up would have meant we were prepared for this. But these are minor concerns compared to everything else that was so good.

Staff were amazing. Lounge and dining were great. Service was great. Bar was good and selection was good for both food and drinks.

The rooms definitely could do with an update. For the price you would expect a bit more modern bedrooms. More heating needed, bigger TV and more blankets needed. The carpet and curtains need updating. The bathroom was very cold so perhaps under floor heating for winter would be good. And spa bath small and outdated.

The location of the lodge is unique, so close to Mt Taranaki, surrounded by forest area. The food was excellent.

Sadly, this accommodation didn't meet our expectations. I hope this feedback will be helpful for management to improve service where it's possible. I was not able to book a restaurant online, no slots, had to phone the reception. The reception staff was not able to find my booking, it took some time. That's ok, it can happen but the next morning I've got a call from them, they were not aware of a conversation and a booking a day before, again they had difficulties to find my name. Guys, you have around 10 rooms only with maximum 10 clients names for bookings, it's not a Hilton Hotel, would appreciate a quicker service. The main disappointment - we were given wrong rooms. One twin room and one double room were booked but we were given two doubles instead. It was not nice to return back to reception and wait for staff to prepare new rooms. I'm glad you were able to accommodate us as required but it would be nice to check booking confirmation on Booking.com before preparing rooms to avoid such mistakes. The restaurant with fireplace is nice, it was almost empty though. We asked which table we should sit and the manager offered us the worst table near the kitchen door which was opened and closed by kitchen people frequently and it was quite distracting. I asked later if we could change the table and sit closer to the fireplace and they said yes - other tables were not reserved. It's so awkward - why we could not be offered a good table initially. Four people dining, higher check - probably customer service needs more attention there. We were shocked when a young girl at the restaurant brought a cup that we asked for, holding it inside, touching it with fingers. It's not appropriate! Please teach, educate your workers. There is no excuse for such a service. The rooms are not big but fine overall. We all were not comfortable with pillows though.

In a great location, near a lot of activities and easy to find. The staff were so good! Attentive, funny, excellent recommendations and seemed to really care we had everything we needed.

Breakfast was a bit expensive but tasted good.

Was awesome to be able to have a night here with evening dinner and breakfast. Such a relaxing night away. All the staff were amazing. Super friendly and welcoming. The room was warm, clean and comfy, spa bath lovely, restaurant was great. Happy hour and the beautiful surroundings. Thanks to everyone

Great atmosphere within the lodge, the fires were on which gave the lodge a cosy feel, friendly staff and wonderful food from the restaurant 🤗

The rooms were not air conditioned so the oil heater struggled to keep the room warm, luckily there was an extra blanket in the cupboard. There were no staff available at the lodge to finalise our payment when we checked out at 8.30am

Beautiful scenery, so close to the mountain.

Was quite cold. The heater didn’t make much of a difference and there was no electric blanket on the bed as stated in the room description which made for a long cold nights sleep. Room was quite small but bed was comfortable.

What sells here is the location. The spot is truely magical. Right under the mountain, great access to walks and hikes. Being right amongst New Zealand native trees and brush. It’s simply gorgeous. If you’re brave enough to get out of bed in the middle of the night you’ll find the Milky Way right above the lodge. I really liked the relaxed feel of the lodge, the staff were so kind and attentive. The rooms had everything you needed and were lovely and warm. The bed was lovely comfortable too!

My only negative would be you could hear your neighbours through the walls. Thankfully, we found this out earlier in the day and were able to pop to town for some ear plugs which did the job of blocking them out perfectly.

The rooms are lovely and the setting so peaceful. We loved being able to have our biking group of 8 people all stay in the same accommodation and share the walks and the meals together. It was the 3rd time I have stayed in the Mountain House and its always special

Lage direkt am Berg und am Beginn diverser Wanderwege am Mount Taranaki. Sehr sehr gutes Restaurant (besser mit Vorreservierung, da sehr wenig Kapazität). Toller Blick bei klarem Himmel auf den Mount. Höhe 840m. Zimmer mit kleiner Terrasse, Kühlschrank und Jaccuzzi-Badewanne, Wasserkocher aber keine Küchenzeile.

Absolutely amazing staff, highly professional and very charming. Food at the restaurant deserves a 5 star-rating. Bathroom offers a bathtub with Spa-function - VERY relaxing after a hike.

Loved the location! The staff was accommodating and extremely friendly. The food at the restaurant was excellent. I have coeliac disease and the staff paid strict attention to my allergies. Food was delicious! The spa bath tub was a extra plus!

Wish they could serve breakfast before 9. Or serve at least a continental breakfast. For those who want to get up early to hike.

Das Hotel liegt mitten im Nationalpark. Die Zimmer sind sehr komfortabel und sehr nett eingerichtet. Die Betten waren großartig, das Bad sehr modern und geräumig, mit Whirlpool. Das Restaurant, wir hatten Frühstück und Abendessen, ein Traum, absolut empfehlenswert. Das Personal sehr nett und freundlich! Wir kamen spät an (21:00 Uhr) und wurden noch sehr liebevoll und nett empfangen. Parkplätze stehen jeweils vor den Units zur Verfügung. Guter Ausgangspunkt für viele schöne kurze wie lange Wanderungen.

Die Lage ist grandios. Der Berg ist immer dabei und die meisten Wandertracks sind von dort zugänglich. Das Personal ist überdurchschnittlich freundlich und das Abendessen war extrem lecker.

Die Zimmer sind etwas unmodern, aber das ist Geschmacksache. Es roch sehr nach, wir glauben, Putzmittel.

Zeer mooie locatie. Nette kamer met goede bedden. Personeel was heel service gericht. Goed restaurant.

Beperkte privacy voor onze kamer (nr 1) daar iedereen die in/uit checkte of naar het restaurant-receptie ging voor ons raam passeerde. Er slecht 1 zitplaats (stoel) die aan bureautje stond. Kamer wat klein.

Great location at foot of Mount Taranaki with wonderful warm units. Bathtub for soaking weary legs after hike. The bed was very comfortable. The restaurant offered a good selection of tasty meals, big portions. The staff is very friendly and makes you feel at home.

Breakfast not available in restaurant on day we booked. Continental in room breakfast offered was very expensive for what it was (sweet yoghurt, sweet muesli and a berry muffin), but grateful there was something as no other shops/cafes nearby.

Perfect location to explore the NP. Room was comfy. Food was lovely.
