Double Lake View Tissa & Safari

The stay is located right in front of a big lake and is the perfect place to spot variety of animals and birds. We spotted crocs, hornbills, eagles, woodpeckers & peacocks right from our balcony. You can also experience the sunrise over the lake which was simply spectacular. The uncle at the stay is one of the friendliest and genuine person we have met so far. He really takes time to make sure you make the most of your trip. He brought us out on his tuktuk to the village and temples and even explained the history of the lake and the village. Simply cannot recommend enough. The food at the stay was delicious and homemade which we really appreciated. Room was in excellent conditions with hot water and AC available

Die Unterkunft war perfekt, um eine Wanderung um die 2 Seen zu machen, auch zum Yalla Nationalpark ist es nicht weit. Der Gastgeber und seine Familie sind sehr, sehr gastfreundlich und nett. Die Zimmer sind sehr sauber und mit einer Gruppe, wir kamen zu neunt, hatten wir ein Stockwerk für uns allein, inklusive einer großen Terrasse mit Blick auf die Seen.

Der Besitzer ist aktuell nicht vor Ort und wird von einem Freund vertreten, der super hilfsbereit ist, aber leider schon fast etwas zu aufdringlich ist, wenn man einfach seine Ruhe möchte.

Amazing breakfast, super helpful owners. Great trip to the lake to watch flying foxes, birds and crocodiles. Very good safari arranged by them, driver was really successful in finding us best spots to take a photo of leopard, elephants and other animals.

Bathroom with the window not fully closing and quite poor water pressure. Dinner rather basic, we recommend going outside, which they are happy to drive you to.

It was nice property, value for money. It was clean and well equipped with necessary requirements. Morning breakfast in the large balcony was amazing. The caretaker welcomes us with fresh coconut water, a sweet gesture.

Very, very clean and comfortable, but also lots of extra practical touches, like an overhead fan (in conjunction with excellent A/C) lots of electrical sockets in useful places, an extra rack to dry towels. Private balcony for our room, plus a very large balcony at the front of the property, overlooking the lake. Dinner was excellent, and very good value.

A tea and coffee making station in the communal area would have been a great finishing touch.

Nice accomodation, the host was very helpfull, arrange the full day safari for good price. He even check the oil on my rented Tuktuk.

We hebben hier een heel fijn verblijf gehad. De gastheer was ontzettend vriendelijk en zorgde ervoor dat we ons meteen welkom voelden. Onze tuktuk konden we zonder problemen in de voortuin parkeren. Bij aankomst kwam ik erachter: de eerste foto van de accommodatie toont een soort blauwe stoep, waarvan wij dachten dat het een zwembad was, dit was het dus niet ;) Gelukkig maakte het prachtige uitzicht over het meer alles meer dan goed. De accommodatie is erg schoon en vanaf het balkon heb je een mooi uitzicht, met veel vogels om te spotten. Voor natuurliefhebbers echt een fijne plek. De weg ernaartoe is wel hobbelig, maar via een klein omweggetje kun je dit grotendeels vermijden. Op korte rijafstand kun je de flying foxes zien, wat wij op aanraden van de gastheer gelijk zijn gaan doen met zonsondergang. Houd er wel rekening mee dat er eigenlijk niets echt op loopafstand is; je bent dus afhankelijk van een vervoersmiddel. Al met al een rustige, schone accommodatie met een schitterend uitzicht en een zeer gastvrije eigenaar!

Jaya is incredibly friendly, helpful, informative and has many contacts and well respected in the community. The location is very beautiful with many birds. Don’t miss the fruit bats at dusk. Jaya can arrange most things such as long distance taxis and safari rides. The location is quiet and peaceful

Wir haben See Adler gesehen, sowie viele andere Vogelarten und, natürlich,die Flughunde. Wir hatten ein leckeres Frühstück. Wie kommen sehr gern wieder.

Excellent location service and rooms.

The hotel is located in a beautiful spot right across the lake. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We booked a half-day safari through the hotel, and there is also a full-day safari option available. We were picked up from the hotel in the morning and dropped back off after the safari. Our driver was excellent, and thanks to him we even managed to see a leopard. The room was clean, and both breakfast and lunch were tasty. It’s easy to find tuk-tuks to get to the central areas. The hotel also offers guided walks along the lakeside, but we preferred to explore the area on our own by walking. Don’t leave without seeing the flying foxes (fruit bats).

From start to finish we had an incredible stay here. The hospitality and service was the best we’ve had in all of our Sri Lanka trip. The hosts were easy to speak to over WhatsApp - booking us an amazing Yala tour before we arrived, picked us up and dropped us at the bus stop to help us get to the next destination Ella, took us on a wonderful lake tour to see the lake and bats in the evening of arrival and was always on hand to help us throughout our stay. The food was also amazing, with brilliant breakfasts and dinners after our day trips, all while sitting on the balcony overlooking the lake and watching the birds and other wildlife. For the price, it’s really a no brainier to stay here - the rooms were A/C, beds comfy and everything super clean. Thank you for an amazing stay!!

Double Lake View is a stunning place to stay. The bedrooms are upstairs with a big shared verandah that overlooks the two lakes. The garden and lake area are alive with bird life. One evening he took us for a tuk tuk tour along the two lakes for bird viewing, to see hundreds of flying foxes leaving the trees and the two thousand year old temple. The room was very comfortable and clean and they gave us a kettle to use for making tea. There is a shared fridge and ironing facilities on the landing. The meals were very delicious and generous serving sizes. They were all so very hospitable and the manager is extremely helpful, organised and welcoming. He organised a safari tour to Udawalawa on our first afternoon, a taxi to get there and large lunch. It is a very central place to access Udawalawa, Yala and Bundala. We had a perfect stay there and were very sad to leave. Thank you so much, especially for the famous Tissamaharama buffalo curd!

This was a gorgeous property staying with a wonderful and hospitable family. The room was incredibly clean and comfortable with great AC and good wifi. This was probably our favourite stay so far in Sri Lanka because we felt so welcomed. The owner took us on a tour of the lakes and temples and town area, including a visit to see the amazing bats fly at sunset which was one of a kind. We ate all meals at the homestay and everything was delicious, from fried rice to kottu to traditional curry. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay, they also organised our safari which was fantastic as we got to see a leopard amongst other animals! Wish we had been able to stay longer.

The place is neat and clean. The manager Mr. Jay took very good care of my family. Food was scrumptious. Facilities were very good.

This place is a bit far from the main city and the local market. So, if you have your own vehicle then you are sorted.

In Sri Lanka almost everyone is friendly, open and helpful, but our host at this accommodation was truly exceptional. From the first moment we felt very welcome. We went on a tuk tuk tour together to see different animals in the surrounding area and also visited a temple with him. He showed us many beautiful and special places and explained a lot about the animals, nature, the temple and the history behind it. You could really feel how much passion and knowledge he has. We were treated to incredibly delicious and authentic Sri Lankan food in the morning and in the evening, and lunch would have been possible as well if we wanted. In short, every wish was fulfilled and we experienced and learned so many wonderful things during our stay. We are very grateful for this experience and can highly recommend this place. Thank you so much!

The hotel was a nice location across from a lake that you could watch the water buffalo and birds. The host was awesome catering to all our touring needs. He came on our Safari and took us around the town in his Tuk tuk. He organised our meals and gave us delicious juices. And organised our taxi to the next destination. Great stay. Thankyou

My bed was very hard.

Die Aussicht auf die Seen, in denen man gelegentlich Wasserbüffel und Krokodile sehen kann, ist wirklich fantastisch. Wir haben mit dem Gastgeber eine Tuktuk Fahrt gemacht und haben dabei viele Tiere gesehen. Die Unterkunft war sauber und gut ausgestattet.

It was a nice location, very nature filled. Wild animals across the road in the Lake. Town near by to get essentials and good food. Place was clean. Hot water was amazing.

There was a spare bed in the room that i didn't need which made it very crowded. The TV never worked.

The room is perfect, super clean and comfortable. The family and specially the owner is available to help you with everything: booking the Yala safari, going birdwatching and lake tour, and also the budha temple of the Town. He also arranged our driver to move to another city and helped us a lot. Food is awesome and they adapt dinner or lunch to our schedule or preferences. Highly recomendable! Unsere beste Unterkunft in Sri Lanka. Super nette Gastgeber und alles sehr sauber. Die Lage ist toll, etwas ruhiger gelegen, es kommen nur selten Autos vorbei, eher mal Fahrräder oder Kühe. Der Blick von der Frühstücksterrasse auf den See ist sensationell, direkt vorm Haus kann man Vögel, Streifenhörnchen und manchmal auch Affen beobachten. Auf Wunsch kocht die Gastgeberin, das war super lecker! Die Zimmer sind ausreichend groß, die Betten bequem und mit Moskitonetz versehen. DIe AC lief einwandfrei. Die Bäder waren recht geräumig und sehr sauber. Im Flur stand ein Kühlschrank mit diversen Getränken, die man gegen Entgelt entnehmen konnte, daher mussten wir nicht einkaufen, zumal es auch noch für jedes Zimmer und zum Essen Wasser gab und eine Begrüßungslimonade.. Am ersten Nachmittag hat uns der Gastgeber noch mit seinem Tuk Tuk herumgefahren und die besten Spots an den Seen im Umkreis gezeigt, da haben wir viele Vögel und Flughunde gesehen und auch einige Krokodile. Es war insgesamt ein sehr netter Aufenthalt, vor allen durch die herzliche und interessierte Art der Gastgeber.

Wie so oft in Sri Lanka könnte der Wasserdruck höher sein.

The hosts were great, took care of us like a family during our stay. They even prepared food for us at a prior notice and loaded every meal with one or the other complimentary local delicacy The rooms were clean and tidy, surrounding pretty.

The view was wonderful. You can see from the terrace the Debarawewa lake with its wild life (water buffalos, lots of birds and sometimes crocodiles). The hosts were very nice and attentive to our needs. I also enjoyed the tasty food. The host also arranged the safari and I was picked up directly from the accommodation. I didn't have to worry about anything. The room was clean and had air conditioning.

Beautiful views over the lakes from the verandah where meals are served. Very tranquil location only a short walk to town. Comfortable room. The food is good, no need to go anywhere else. The staff are friendly and helpful. The owner organised our safari to Bundala which was excellent with a very knowledgeable guide. Highly recommended.

The hotel is located next to a see where you can see from the veranda all kinds of animals. Since Yala was closed due to heavy rain, our host organized a private tuk tuk safari where we even saw elefants. Overall everybody was super helpful and our stay was very relaxing.

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel! The rooms were spacious and very comfortable, providing the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring. The breakfast was absolutely delicious.

This was one of the best places we stayed in Sri Lanka!! It's better than other places which were 6 x the price! The locations is so beautiful, we hired bikes a cycled round the lakes and local area which was amazing. Spent the late afternoon on the balcony watching the birds and other wildlife on the lake, it was very peaceful. We were made a delicious dinner and a packed breakfast for our safari at yala. The room was great, small but fine for what we needed, and it was absolutely spotless clean! Air con was good and bed comfy. The hosts were just absolutely fantastic, the most lovely people! 10/10 stay, I wish we could have stayed for longer!

We enjoyed a wonderful four-nights-stay in Tissa as a point of departure to the nationalparks. From the start, our friendly host and his whole family made as feel welcome and indulged us with lovely welcome drinks, dishes, tips what to visit, where to have dinner. They organised all tours to three parks with pick ups in the mornings and packed lunch. Also our drivers there were perfectly chosen and made our days special while visiting elephants, eagles, sloth bears and leopards. The house is at a beautiful lake, you can relish breakfast with a view. Friendliness, service, cleanliness, Wifi, selection of fresh fruits and homemade local food like hoppers – all five stars!!!

The location had an great view of the lake. The safari we arranged through the hotel was absolutely amazing, a good price, and our guide Nissanka was excellent and very knowledgeable. Staff were very attentive and the food was excellent with a choice Sri Lankan dishes.

The family who run the property are very friendly and helpful. Whilst the accommodation is fairly basic it is very clean. The view from the communal balcony/seating area is lovely even on a wet day.

In wet weather like we experienced there wasn’t a great deal to do at or near the property and what you could do eg Safari wasn’t the experience it should have been.

We spent one night here, and everyone was very kind and attentive to us. During dinner, we even got to taste a local specialty, curd. Both dinner and breakfast were abundant. The view was great, and the room was suitable as well. I can recommend this place!

Clean and spacious rooms, with a balcony overlooking the lake. You can sit in the balcony and enjoy spotting watching birds. Very friendly and helpful staff. Tasty breakfast (they were kind to provide it at 11am as it took us time to return from our safari)

What we liked? Absolutely everything. Now we understand all positive reviews. When we arrived owner and his family welcomed us with cold towels and refreshing coconut water. Room was clean and cleanliness over whole property as well. Can recommend homemade dinner at hotel, it was delicious. If you are traveling for multiple days as us, you can use their laundry service. Owner acts very professional, you can see high standards in almost every aspect from check-in, food serving, to check-out.

I can’t recommend more this hotel. The family is extremely helpful and kind. They were all the time asking me about my necessities and bringing me all the help I needed. I arranged the safari with them and it was amazing (I saw even a leopard). At this little house you feel like at home. Thanks so much for everything.

An exceptional welcome from the very friendly and helpful staff. We had a lovely room that lead on to the balcony with wonderful views of the lake. Our stay was amazing! The owners from the hotel are really kind. Once we arrive they offer us a “tour” by tuk tuk to visit Tissa, best decision ever. I recomend you to accept and pay it’s super worth it!!! They also provide us fruit for free, amazing room and they cooked us an incredible dinner. (Super recommended to eat dinner there in the hotel) We also took the Safari with them, price is good one and they prepare us breakfast and lunch to eat there! Their guide in the Safari, Nishshanka, was the best one!! He found us all the possible animals you can see in the Safari!! He is so kind and really knows all animals. Even it was the hard season to see, we saw leopard, lazy bear, elephants… he was amazing! Incredible experience

This place was perfect! We had booked a safari in Yala and then found this property to stay two nights while we were there. The room was immaculately clean, the hosts were so welcoming and lovely and went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. One of our favourite places to stay since being in Sri Lanka. The view is awesome.

The hotel is beautifully located. You can go for morning or evening walks around the lake (or with a TukTuk) and spot many animals. The lake is also visible from the balcony. The hosts are amazing. They’re welcoming and very friendly. They organized us Taxis and a Safari. Also they prepared us a breakfast to go for the Safari Tour. Highly recommend this place!!!

Clean, comfortable, spacious for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 older teenagers). Owner and his family were very friendly and helpful. Good food - evening meal and breakfast - very tasty and generous portions. Gorgeous views from the property balcony. Good variety of restaurants a short drive away. Very good value for money. Recommend this accommodation as a base for visiting Yala National Park.

Clean comfortable rooms with an incredible view of the lake. The family who run the hotel were the most kind, generous and caring hosts we have met in Sri Lanka! They treated us and our baby like family and we wish we could have stayed longer! It was great to have so much wildlife on the doorstep of the hotel-we saw more animals on the lake tour from the hotel than in Yala, at a fraction of the cost! A wonderful place to stay.

This is set in the most beautiful area! Right near a lagoon with so much wildlife as well as nearby local villages. The owner was so helpful and did everything he could to make our stay the best! His wife cooked a brilliant sri Lankan meal for us, including Buffalo curd for desert, which was delicious. He organized a great safari for us at Yala. He also took us out for a tour for about 2 hours around the local area and showed us local wildlife and other important parts, which was amazing! So pretty! This was a small cost and so worth it! If we had time, we would have stayed longer. Beds comfortable, rooms beautiful, lovely balcony at the front of the property. It's one of our favorite stays!

The family was really friendly: They showed us crocodiles and helped us withe medicine problems. The made us feel really welcome and like home. The room was really clean. The lake infront and the nature were stunning. Also the food in the hotel was great. It is totally worth it to stay there longer.

Where do I even start? The owner was the nicest host we encountered in Sri Lanka. Forget about eating anywhere but at their house. They prepare the most delicious curry - best we had so far. They breakfast was really good and the portions are very large. The host also organized a safari to Yala park with a very experinced ranger. We even saw a Leopard and a tusker. The host proposed that we go to Kataragama with him for the festival. He arranged the best seats at the festival just for us - free of charge. We met some of the nicest people at the festival, they explained all the history during the festival and tried to please all of our expectations. The location of the house is also at the edge of a very beautiful lake. All in all, you will not be disapointed to book your stay here.

The owner was amazing, very attentive and friendly - he went out of his way to make our stay special: organising us a safari breakfast, taking us to the bus station for free, making sure we got on the correct bus and offering us unexpected food before we left which was so thoughtful. Very welcoming host who offered us coconut drink upon our arrival. Accommodation was very nice and clean. Assistance with dinner, which was very tasty and definitely recommendable. After returning from the morning safari, we were provided with a cold towel and fresh mango juice, a true extra touch. Whoever is planning to stay in the area, should stop by Double lake view.

The host, Gemunu and his family and friends were amazing and very responsive. Great location right in front of the lake, you can take a walk around or have the host organize a tuktuk, you can see so many birds, buffalos, bats even crocodiles. It's very peaceful and serene. He also helped us organize the Yala National Park safari. Food was so good, the host catered to all our wants and needs :D Highly recommend!!!

Amazing and very helpful hosts

I would 100% recommend staying here! The owner and his family were soo kind and welcoming and organised an amazing trip to Yala National park as well as our journey onwards. The owner was extremely knowledgeable of the local birds and wildlife on the lake and gave us a mini tour on the way into town. The location is beautiful and the food made by his family was some of the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka. Staying with such a welcoming family was a real pleasure!

Great staff, beautiful outlook

This felt more like a homestay than a hotel. The host welcomed us with fresh coconuts, tooks us on a lake tour at sunset, prepared us food for our safari and simply went above and beyond. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and they also had great showers.

Thank you to the family which provided us this unforgettable stay here in Tissa. They are so friendly and helpful. Furthermore, very clean room and nice view over the lake especially for sunrise. The room was very big and we felt very comfortable. The safari the owner provided was amazing, we saw many animals. We did a sunset tour. To mention: I twisted my ankle some days ago when we were hiking in Ella and the owner of Double Lake View Tissa went with us to a hospital and drove us to pharmacy. This was so kind. Also the food was very nice. Overall, this stay was one of our best we had in Sri Lanka, we would definitely come back again.

Super clean, amazing and very attentive owner and staff and gorgeous view of the lake. The owner picked us up from the bus stop and showed us around the lakes. He is so knowledgeable about all the fauna and takes time to tell you about everything. We saw all kinds of birds, crocodiles, bats and the water buffalo. The owner showed us interesting places related to local culture and it was fascinating. The food and service were both exceptional. We did the safari tour and it was great but my favorite part of the trip was the Tissa tour by the hotel owner. Don’t miss it!

This is by far the most amazing experience we had with accommodation in Sri Lanka. I cannot stress how important it is to stay here. The family that host are the warmest most kindest people. Do not bother eating in the town which has average restaurants, the food they make here is delicious, clean & so cheap. What a spread ! The owner is super helpful & also took us on a free cruise around the lake. We learnt a lot from him about how the locals live etc. He also gave us space if we needed it, it’s completely up to you. Rooms are lovely, spotless & big with an insane view. Also make sure you book your Safari from here. Our guide had been touring for 10+ years & was amazing with the animals. I could go go on forever ha !

Lake out front is beautiful. Family run and everyone is very friendly and helpful, welcome drinks, snacks, arrange all activities to make the best out of your stay there.

Room was a bit small. They offered us a 4bed room, but we decided not to use it because maybe a family of 4 can use it better than a couple

All the people were so friendly and kind - it was like being part of the family!

The host family were both very welcoming from start to finish. The owner took us around the lake at sunset to view the bird and wildlife and even picked up some buffalo curd for us to try. Food was exceptional and hospitality first class and very genuine
