Die ruhige Lage und das entspannte Gefühl das damit einhergeht. Kostenloses TukTuk in die Stadt, weil man etwas außerhalb ist. Schöne und außergewöhnliche Zimmer. Das Personal war sehr bemüht uns den Aufenthalt bestmöglich zu gestalten. Kleine Anlage mit 5 Zimmern.

Das Personal hat unser Frühstück für den nächsten Morgen vergessen und wir konnten dieses nicht auf der Aussichtsplattform essen, wie eigentlich ausgemacht. Nicht wild aber etwas ärgerlich. Du hast keine Liege.

El sitio es precioso, justo al lado de Ella pero a la vez permitiendote aislarte y tener la sensacion de pequeño retiro. La casita es un ensueño, cada detalle es perfecto. Y el personal es absolutamente encantador. Mi marido se puso malo la noche antes de irnos y nos dejaron quedarnos despues del checkout hasta que se sintiera bien. Siempre atentos, amables y con ganas de ayudar.

A beautiful retreat, wish we could have stayed longer.

We absolutely loved our stay at Arawe! It’s a small boutique hotel with maximum 10 guests at a time. The staff were so lovely and helpful with anything we needed. The breakfast is incredible, and we did the cooking class during our stay there which was such a great experience. The hotel is well located for everything you want to see in Ella and close to the restaurants. We wanted to stay longer and will absolutely be back!

A very unique property among the green fields. A secluded and nature-y atmosphere with great attention to details in the rooms, with bonus outside showers. Very spacious with pleasant spaces to stay outside to read or just rest. The staff was great and the breakfast that was served in the room's outside dining area was exceptionally good and generous.

Dit is een accommodatie die voor ons een 10 waard is nadat we tijdens 3 weken rondreizen in Sri Lanka al meerdere locaties hebben gehad. We waren met 2 volwassenen en 2 tieners en hadden 2 heerlijke 2 persoonsbedden in een accommodatie waarbij je vanuit je bed een uitzicht hebt dat geweldig is. De accommodatie waar wij verbleven met onder en bovenverdieping en balkon is sfeervol en van werkelijk alle gemakken voorzien. Overal is aan gedacht. De gastheer heeft deze accommodatie zelf ontworpen. De gastheer is zeer vriendelijk, meedenkend zonder opdringerig te zijn en super enthousiast om jou een onvergetelijke beleving mee te geven. Ook nog eens super ontbijt, perfect verzorgd door de moeder van de gastheer, waarbij we ook nog eens verschillende soorten fruit konden proberen. Al met al een aanrader!

Immersa nel verde, silenziosa: un’oasi di pace. L’accoglienza poi è stata impeccabile, tutti gentilissimi e sempre a disposizione. Camere e bagno bellissimi.

Il cottage da 4 in cui eravamo ha due camere separate di cui solo una ha il bagno, quindi per andare in bagno bisogna uscire fuori e entrare nell’altra stanza.

The location near the rice fields and a delicious breakfast.

The cottage that we were in was very rustic and tatty. It smelt of damp and it felt damp. Massage was ok but I felt the organisation was strange, not sure why everything needs to be communicated via WhatsApp.

Brilliant property - we stayed in the chalet which was an absolute dream. Well appointed, great pool and nice space above to read. Suren was a delight and looked after us whilst the cooking class was great fun. The free tuktuk in and out of town was appreciated too! The 2 dogs & kittens were also fun!

Vanaf het moment dat je voet zet in dit retreat valt alles van je af. Het personeel is erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam. De ‘kamers’/villa’s zijn zó ontworpen en ingericht dat je niets anders kunt dan ontspannen, ze zijn een lust voor het oog, het is alsof je ergens op het platteland woont. De macramé-workshop is heel leuk en gezellig en de spa is heerlijk. En het ontbijt dat bij de villa wordt bereid is verrukkelijk! Ik zou hier wel willen blijven wonen.

We loved our three nights at Arawe. The staff couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful. Soren looked after us with tuk tuks and sightseeing. We thoroughly enjoyed his company and care. The breakfast setting is beautiful with lovely food to match. We enjoyed sightseeing in the mornings and then relaxing in the stunning surrounds in the afternoons. Such a lovely, peaceful spot just outside of Ella that we felt really relaxed in. The free, short tuk tuk ride is great for popping into town. Breakfast was amazing and both parents and kids loved the evening cooking class with the chef. All in all I can’t recommend this place highly enough. The fireflies in the tree canopies really add to the magic of the place.

We had a very peaceful stay at Arawe. Decided to stay four nights which was a great amount of time to explore Ella and surrounds, but also to enjoy time in the Arawe Retreat. It is a gorgeous, lush, tropical hideaway, the staff are very kind and helpful, it is walking distance to town (or free hotel tuk tuk) and great breakfast. The resident dogs and cats also make it feel homely.

We stayed one night in the biggest cottage and then moved to the smaller, older cottage. This cottage was decorated really nicely but didn’t have the same natural light or balcony that the other two more modern cottages have. A minor thing but recommend staying in the more modern cottages.

We absolutely loved our stay at Arawe Resort and had an amazing experience from start to finish. The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and always willing to help, which made our stay even more special. The breakfast was delicious, with plenty of options, and the team were very accommodating to our needs. Even the little details stood out e.g the toiletries smelled wonderful and added a lovely touch to the experience. A couple of things worth noting for future guests: from the hotel entrance to the rooms, there is a 2–3 minute walk involving several steps. However, this was not an issue for us as the staff immediately took care of all our luggage and helped us settle in effortlessly. It’s also worth knowing that most of the staff finish work around 9pm, so it’s a good idea to have a contact number available in case you need assistance later in the evening. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend Arawe Resort. The exceptional hospitality, beautiful surroundings, and attention to detail made it a truly memorable experience

Everything! The place is located in a beautiful area, full of plants and rice fields, the greenery will take your breath away! Room was so stylish with beautiful private bathroom. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We had a cooking class and dinner with chef Harshan and yoga class early morning under the sky with teacher Namal - both activities are highly recommended! We really enjoyed our stay in Arawe. Additionally they have free tuk tuk service to the town which is super convenient. The place is nature oriented and will definitely help you escape from the daily rush and relax.

Naprosto kouzelné ubytování v nádherně zařízených chatičkách. Snídaně, personál, lokalita kousíček od Ella, vše super. Na vlak i do Ella se dá dojít hezkou zkratkou. Doporučuji si koupit cestu vlakem kolem ubytování a Arche bridge, to je zážitek. Případně vás do Ella hodí zdarma hotelový tuk-tuk. Mají svoje wellness, které vypadá nádherně, litujeme že jsme nestihli si zajít na masáž nebo bylinou koupel. A k hotelu opravdu patří rýžové políčko, takže o výhledy není nouze. Jednoznačně 10/10 ubytování.

We verbleven in de cottage met twee aparte slaapkamers, waarvan er één was verbonden met de badkamer (en een klein tussenkamertje met koffie/thee faciliteiten en een koelkastje). Mooi sfeervol ingericht in een prachtige omgeving, net buiten Ella. Ze bieden een tuk tuk service naar het centrum. Service level is top. En het ontbijt is heerlijk!

Het is prachtig gelegen, maar niet geschikt als je wat minder goed ter been bent. De cottage waar wij verbleven had geen voordeur, de twee kamers hadden een eigen deur (met sleutel). Prima voor volwassenen of met oudere kinderen, maar als je een jonger kind apart wilt leggen vind ik een voordeur of connecting door toch prettiger. Dat had ik van te voren niet goed ingeschat, anders had ik voor de andere accommodatie op het terrein gekozen.

Absolutely loved our stay here. The photos online honestly don’t do it justice, the most relaxing and gorgeous stay in amongst so much green and jungle, monkeys very often playing in the trees around room. So so so relaxing and felt like a tranquil oasis but also very close to Ella main town - hotel tuk tuk was amazing too. Breakfast was so delicious we loved it! Such an amazing stay, wish we could’ve stayed longer!

The whole place was so peaceful and relaxing. The staff were all amazing and tended to our every need. Free Tuk tuks into Ella town were so handy, even if we were just a short walk into town. We were treated to a cooking class while we were here, with their in house chef Harishan. Harishan was so professional and his curry recipes are to die for! He was assisted by a new comer to the Aware Retreat team - Bhawanraj - who did a great job with everything asked of him from the chef. Cannot recommend this place, or their services enough!

A peaceful and beautifully designed retreat with stunning views of the hills and paddy fields. The property feels calm and isolated, yet to close to town centre and railway station. Rooms were clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully done. The food was amazing, and the Sri Lankan cooking class was a true highlight of our stay. They also have an in-house tuk-tuk driver who was very helpful for getting around. Staff were warm and attentive. Overall, a very refreshing and memorable stay.

Arawe Retreat is a calm oasis in a busy town. The views within the property were stunning. We stayed in a villa and the cottage. Both properties were tastefully decorated and comfortable. The villa is the star tho - spacious with multiple places to sit and watch nature. Plenty of birds and monkeys. Only stayed a night so we didn’t have time to explore other offerings but wish we had stayed longer. The wellness centre looks amazing. Thanks to Suren for his help throughout. What a lovely kind man.

The booking team didn’t communicate my child’s nut allergy to the kitchen team despite me informing them 3 times. The staff were genuinely upset by the mistake. I would just suggest checking at every opportunity next time. It’s not the most accessible with mobility issues - lots of stairs into and out of property.

Felt that they overcharged us for tuk tuk trip to Demodara train station, 15 minutes ride was 2500 rp when usually would have been 1000rp.

It's difficult to convey just how good our stay was here. The location is absolutely perfect, far enough away from the chaos of Ella town but still within walking distance. Arawe is a little oasis nestled amongst tea plantations and we were delighted to return to it after our hikes. The rooms themselves are exceptional and really high spec, we had an entire block to ourselves, which would be great for families. The staff are all absolutely charming and we felt very welcome and were exceptionally looked after. As an icing on the cake, they have beautiful dogs and cats which add a lovely family feel to the location. Breakfast was great and we watched monkeys playing in the trees as we ate fresh fruit and smoothie bowls.

What a beautiful spot to spend a few days in Ella! I loved everything about staying here from the peaceful views over the fields, watching the iconic blue train go past from our bed to the delicious breakfasts (best breakfasts we had in Sri Lanka for sure). It was a short walk out of the main part of town which made it easy to get there when we wanted and yet so peaceful and quiet. The best part was the pets, though. In particular my little kitten friend who I still think about all the time and wish I could have brought her home with me!

The grounds are stunning and the wellness centre is the best Ive ever seen. Our bathroom was stunning. Highly recommend staying here. Free tuk tuk into town whenever we needed it. Staff were amazing.

Für uns, die schönste Unterkunft auf unserer Reise durch Sri Lanka. Die Häuser liegen am Rande eines kleinen Talkessels mit kleinem Reisfeld und üppiger Vegetation. Sehr schöne Ausstattung und dekorative Details. Ruhe pur, sehr gutes W-Lan und außerordentlich freundliches Personal. Wir hatten das Haus über zwei Etagen, mit Küche und diversen Sitzgelegenheiten. Eine echte Oase. Super Frühstück mit Auswahlmöglichkeiten. Besonders empfehlen möchte ich unbedingt auch den Kochkurs, der Spaß machte und uns über die Herstellung der Speisen gut informierte. Ein Ort zum Wohlfühlen!

This place is so beautiful, calm, and peaceful. We are in the middle of nature (we saw squirrels, birds, and even monkeys). Ella center is just 5min in TukTuk. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. We really enjoyed the time we spent with Suren, and once again, we thank him for his kindness and for all the wonderful memories we shared with him. Definitely recommend this place!

The staff were attentive and only too happy to meet our needs. The breakfasts were very tasty and the location was very picturesque. We were very comfortable in the chalet room.

Our room was amazing. The hammock and the swing were perfect extra touches. As was the outdoor shower. Surrounded by nature, the kids loved watching the fireflies at night. Breakfast options were great and the cookery class was great fun, and we were left with a very yummy dinner. All the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.

I didn't realise that if you're in the villa, you don't have access to the pool. We didn't miss it though, there was enough to keep us entertained.

Les chambres sont sublimes (nous étions dans le chalet, deux couples, chambre du haut et du bas) et très confortables. Le chalet est immense et vraiment très spacieux. La vue depuis le chalet, sur la végétation environnante, est juste incroyable. Vous êtes au calme, parfait pour dormir.

Malheureusement, une très très forte odeur d'humidité dans la chambre (essentiellement celle du bas dans le chalet). C'est vraiment dommage car cela a un peu gâché l'expérience. Ensuite, niveau localisation, vous êtes un peu loin des animations et points d'intérêt. A choisir, je pense que la prochaine fois je regarderai mieux situé.

Beautiful surrounds and the garden was truly lovely. The staff were so kind and helpful and the breakfasts delicious. The property is close to the town.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom historic cottage. It was nicely decorated, however the bed in the small room was as hard as a rock and the skylight directly above meant no sleep in. This room was also damp so the staff put heaters on to dry it out. This worked quite well. They also offered a different room higher up so in the end it was a comfortable stay.

Such a special place to stay in Ella. The room was perfect, a whole house to yourself with privacy in nature. The building itself is beautifully designed and decorated. The pool and sunbed areas were super private and comfortable. The location is a really short and beautiful walk to main town in Ella, the retreat also offers a free tuktuk into town! First of all they arranged pick up from Colombo airport, the driver, Denis was great! We asked him to stop off for something to eat and he took us to an amazing restaurant, we chose to go the route off the highway and it was a really beautiful scenic drive, Denis havw us information on the towns we passed through and also stopped off at view points! A great welcome to Sri Lanka. The staff really made the place special, they go above and beyond to make sure every need is met! So kind and organised all the activity’s we wanted to do. The cooking class was incredible, the chef took his time to explain the recipes and can’t wait to try them back home! We also climbed Ella rock with a tour guide booked by the retreat, he was super friendly and kept up with our ability, stopped when we needed and didn’t feel rushed was super comfortable hike up thanks to our guide! Finally we ended our retreat in the on-site spa facility, full body massage, oil treatment and steam bath. Breakfast lunch and dinner all ordered from Arawe was the best food we have had on our 6 month travels! Perfectly cooked and all on time, again the staff put so much care into making sure we were comfortable. I couldn’t recommend Arawe Retreat more. A great start to our trip in Sri Lanka. The setting speaks for itself and the whole team are a credit to the hotel! Thank you so much for having us Arawe!

The villa was in a beautiful setting. It was about 10 minutes walk to the main road.

Never had enough hot water for 4 adults. It would have been nice if they provided fresh clean towels each day.

I loved it all

I've really loved staying at Arawe Retreat. The accomodation was superlative, tastefully decorated, we had an entire two-floors villa for us with an incredible view on the inner jungle. The service was flawless, we asked for both dinner and breakfast at the villa and they came to cook for us, food was excellent. We had also a beautiful massage at the spa and for the first time we've tried the traditional steam bath, it was amazing. And plus, they have a beautiful cat called Mali, the cutest cat in the world:) My only regret is we didn't spend more time there. Highly recommended! A big thank you to the whole team.

The chalet exceeded our expectations, looking even more beautiful than the photos suggested. The pool area was stunning, overlooking tranquil rice fields, and the entire property was thoughtfully designed to provide complete privacy. We spent many happy hours in the hammock on the upper floor, which became our favorite reading spot throughout our stay. The staff were genuinely attentive and sweet, consistently going above and beyond to make our experience special. We particularly appreciated the complimentary TukTuk service into town, which was a thoughtful touch given the steep hill between the property and town center. Breakfast was a highlight every morning, with four different freshly prepared options to choose from. The smoothie bowl was exceptional and we’d highly recommend it. The cooking lesson was another standout experience where we prepared six delicious veggie curries, popadoms, and roti, then enjoyed a proper feast together. Receiving the recipe cards afterward to recreate the dishes at home was a lovely touch. The spa treatments were both wonderful and reasonably priced. The full body massage left us feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated.

The chalet backs onto a fairly steep and moderately busy road, which meant regular noise from TukTuks and HGVs straining up the hill. This wasn’t quite the peaceful retreat experience we’d anticipated given the hotel’s name, though we did adjust to it over time. The noise was noticeably less intrusive on weekends compared to weekdays. The room cleanliness could have been better. We noticed stained sheets (though they appeared freshly washed), a few hairs in the shower upon check-in, and the mosquito net had a slightly unpleasant odor. The 2.5% surcharge for card payments came as an unexpected surprise at this price point. Withdrawing over £900 in cash from a local ATM didn’t feel like a comfortable option. While we understand banks charge fees for card transactions, we’d suggest building this cost into the room rate rather than adding it separately.​​​

Wonderful stay at an exceptionally beautiful grounds. We were mesmerized by the historical house and decor. A big shout out to the team for amazing hospitality and a wonderful breakfast- try the string hoppers and omlette. We love their tuk tuk driver who shared a lot of knowledge about Sri Lanka and took us to the beautiful Buddhist temple- a must see. Thank you for everything

Location, facilities, attentiveness, team attitude. Everything was on point! So may great details. The kids did a macrame class which they loved! Mum got an amazing ajurvedic treatment. Dad got peace to do his thing. The perfect family getaway. Also we loved the friendly dogs and cats :) And the food!!! The best breakfast!!!

Beliggenheten var god, deilig frokost og hyggelig personalet som var til stede under oppholdet vårt. Stedet er unikt og flott, men er forbeholdt finvær grunnet fasilitetene. Hunder og katter som bodde på hotellet var utrolig sosiale og fine.

Daglige strømbrudd over flere timer, ingen reserveløsning, dette resulterte blant annet i at en ikke fikk dusje varmt eller bruke belysning. Lite løsningsorienterte og ubehjelpelig ledelse/manager/eier når det var syklon og ekstremvær. Vi ønsket å forkorte oppholdet grunnet at vi følte oss utrygge. Vi ble ignorert når vi ba om å forkorte oppholdet vårt. Vi kontaktet booking.com sin support og her blir det fabrikert historier som aldri har vært kommunisert og saken avsluttes, altså ingen løsning på problemet. Svært skuffende gitt omstendighetene. WiFi dekning er svært dårlig innendørs og i tillegg dårlig dekning på mobilnett. Takviften, som er den eneste formen for ventilasjon i rommet, bråket veldig og forstyrret nattesøvnen. Dyreavføring inne på rommet som kunne minne om muselort. I regnvær er overnattingssted fuktig og det var utfordrende å tørke tøy/sekker/sko. Det ble ikke utført renhold under oppholdet, selv om vi var ute. Dog ble det forsøkt en gang, men grunnet sykdom passet det ikke på det tidspunktet.

Meie kasutasime kokandustundi, kus saime kohaliku toidu valmistamisel ise kaasa lüüa ja pärast seda ka süüa. Võrratu kogemus valmistada kohaliku kokaga erinevaid karrisid. Hommikusöök valmistati meie maja terrassil. Kokk valmistas just neid toite, mis meile enim meeldis.
