Reviewed Sep 18, 2026Friendly host. When arriving, you get some bread, yoghurt and banana. Also a lot of snacks inside the house & your room Clean kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. Comfortable beds Very close to the temple and shrine Close to the bus station Tip: go to miyazushi restaurant. Best sushi we ever ate! Also good udon and Wagyu. Friendly people as well
Unrelated to the stay, at night you hear a dog barking which could interrupt your sleep

Auberge dans son jus qui mériterait un gros rafraîchissement. Personnel absent et très peu agréable au Check in. Ce n’est pas parce qu’une auberge se trouve dans un lieu touristique avec peu d’autres options d’hébergements qu’elle ne doit pas faire d’efforts pour ses clients.

Reviewed Aug 13, 2026Well-located hostel for hiking the Kumano-kodo. The staff were helpful and informative about our stay and about the hike in general. Very clean bedroom and bed-linen.
The cleanliness of the bathroom could have been improved, as the bath mats did not look particularly clean. There was also a very strange smell in the kitchen, and the hostel also had a bit of an odour of sweat downstairs (though maybe to be expected for a hiking hostel!)

Reviewed May 29, 2026Man who runs the place very grumpy and rude. Bring enough cash with you as they don't accept card. That said, the accomodation itself was fine and I stayed in the dorm rooms - it was fine and good value for money. I'm responding to your answer. It's not disrespectful or rude to misunderstand instructions re the door key and be responded to with 'Fuck'. Nor is it rude or disrestfcul to not know what a cash payment was required and be treated like a criminal for not having it. Your response here shows how tocuhy and prickly you are.

Reviewed May 26, 2026本宮に近く立地は抜群です。自由に過ごせて気楽です。前回利用した時よりキッチンが整理されていました。買い物や食事が不便な所なので、朝食が付いてるのは助かります。
たくさんのお菓子が置いてあるので嬉しいのですが、個室内の大きなお菓子の袋が開いていました。処分しましたがちょっとびっくりしました。洋室はカーテンがレースのみなので夜になると外から見えます。見る人はいないと思いますが、カーテンがついているともっとくつろげると思います。

Reviewed May 25, 2026The kitchen was well equipped, both tableware, but also tea, coffee, butter, mermelade! The owner give a little bag with bread, yogurt and fruits when you arrive, a very nice touch! There are also cookies and sweets that are always on the table (free)

Reviewed May 25, 2026Good location right by the shrine, perfect for who is coming from the trekking. Bread, yoghurt and a banana is given when doing the check-in and peanut butter/jam is available in the fridge which was good after a long day walking.
A bit outdated and could improve the free toiletries (it was mostly water mixed with whatever was left in the bottles). Could improve the cleaning and the available slippers that you need to use.

Reviewed May 18, 2026ドミトリーに 宿泊しましたがとても静かで清潔で良かったです。食堂と談話室があり 広々としていました。清潔なお布団 気持ちのいいシャワー、無料でついてくる バナナ と食パン ロールパン 美味しかったです。熊野本宮大社のバス停にも近く、値段も格安です。食堂には調味料 や クッキング用品もあり 近くで食材を揃えることもできます。また近くにしもじや山崎デイリーストアもあります。

屋子裡很像迷宮，剛走進去時幾乎找不到入口，即使有一張簡圖，還是很困惑。 老房子的電力不夠，廚房被另外一組客人搞到跳電，我們完全不能使用電爐，也沒有熱水洗澡。 我知道這是背包客棧，但這一切實在太荒謬。 如果設備只是這樣，那麼收費就該再便宜一點。 它唯一的優點是離車站很近，交通十分方便。

Reviewed Apr 22, 2026KB is very clean, the kitchen is pretty good. Bunks are comfortable and private. Location is quite close to the train. Other folks were good company and tidied up nicely. Lots of hikers and walking stories. Well run hostel. But beware the Owner: he was exceedingly rude and unpleasant on first meeting, and he kept this up for our 2 nights stay. Most unfortunate.
The Owner. His anger and foul language rather overshadowed our stay. His Cafe is down the road...

The owner is very rude. I’ve never seen any hotel’s owner like this. When we stood in front of the hotel and about to leave, the owner slammed the door right on my face and said “get out”. In contrast, the owner was very kind to other Japanese guests. He was only rude to foreigners. Also, there is only 1 shower room in the whole building which is not enough for so many customers.

Love to have one more room for shower on 2/F even though it's shared. Also, a power supply upgrade would be very helpful for people to use the kitchen facilities. It's kind of inconvenient that only one of the electric appliances - kettle, toaster (and cook?) - can be used at any time or it will cause an outage.

Reviewed Mar 24, 2026We stayed there for two nights to reduce the trouble of transport connections between accommodation and Kumano Kodo trail heads. We like the great location (right next to Hongu Taisha and 200m from bus station), good prices. We took 2 tatami twin rooms and 2 bunk beds. Curtains of the bunk beds blocked the lights. Reading lamp and clothes hangers available in the beds are very user-friendly. Owner of the hostel Katsu san was quite friendly. Although meals were not available, he was kind enough to give us bread and snacks with butter, peanut butter and jam in the refrigerator free for use.
Power outage when more than one electric appliance was used. The signage could have been clearer. Instead of saying "the kettle, the toaster and the coffee maker can't be used at the same time" , it would be helpful to state only one device may be used, or guests might think they can use up to two devices. Other than this. All good!

Reviewed Mar 24, 2026The hostel is closed to the Hongu Taisha Mae bus stop which made it very convenient for early transfer. The bunk bed was very sturdy, it made no noise when I went up and down. There are quilt, blanket, matress and black out curtain so it was pretty private and warm at night. Thank god this time I was with all quiet sleepers in the dorm bedroom. The bathroom was clean with instant hot water and toilet was clean too. There is always an english instruction at the most needed places, so I felt quite ok navigating all the house equipments and appliances.

近くの商店が夕方早くに閉まるため、現地調達は難しいです。全体的には清潔だったのですが、洗面所が一部清掃されていないところがあり、残念でした。

Reviewed Mar 19, 2026The dorm beds had curtains for each bed so you can have privacy despite there being seven other people present. The kitchen was good for cooking and the living area had free snacks and good couch for conversation starting.
The first smell upon entering was smelly feet. Most of the other rooms smelled fine.

Reviewed Feb 22, 2026The location is great which is close to bus station ans also Hongu Taisha shrine. There is a common area where all backpacker could hang out together. Price is good. House is clean.
I won't say it is bad. Shared rooms are at top floor which requires climbing stairs which is a bit hard after whole day hiking. Shower is at lower floor. It is a big issue though.
