Loved it here. Felt like home. The way travelling should be. Brendas guiding was amaxing we booked 2 days private touring (well worth it with kids) go at your own pace. Was sad to leave

At first sight it seemed simple, but it is excelent place for exploration of Mulu National Park! Many details in the hotel are from natural materials (clothes hangers), Equipment of bathroom is original, but funccions perfect! I loved it:-) They sort garbage, the system is as well very original. The owners are living there for long time, he is local, she is from Singapure, but excelent guide for the cave (ask for Brenda), doing her job well and honestly!

It's very quiet and it's on a super clean field.

They overcharged me, by far, even if I paid cash in local currency, they gave me back some of that, but not complete. It is far from the park and if you do not communicate by message or organize with the Marriott truck you have to walk 2.5 km to get there. There's nothing nearby to eat, be prepared with that. They were going to connect the internet, because they were getting signal from another hotel .

James and Brenda provided an amazing experience. The accommodation was simple but very clean and you can pay extra for breakfast and transport if you like. There is a cafe just over the road with great food and the national park is just 2km away. We learned so much from our hosts. Brenda is a park guide and you can book trips directly through her. James is local from Mulu and very knowledgeable about the village and all the history. We loved our 4 nights here thank you!

Al rientro dal parco abbiamo scoperto che l’acqua viene chiusa in determinate fasce orarie, tuttavia non corrispondevano a quanto dichiarato, infatti dalle 20 (ora del rientro) alle 7 (ora in cui siamo usciti per nuovo tour) non c’era acqua, quindi grosso disagio.

Sehr nettes ubd hilfsbereites Personal. James und Brenda sind wirklich coole Personen! Es liegt etwas außerhalb, Transport lässt sich aber gut organisieren. Außerdem ist das Stella Café direkt gegenüber. Sehr lecker :)

Brenda hat schnell auf meine Anfragen per WhatsApp reagiert und Taxi vermittelt.

Ich war in meinem Leben schon in wirklich vielen einfachen Unterkünften und unterstütze gerne Initiativen von Einheimischen abseits von kommerziellen Unterkünften. Hier hat das Preis Leistungsverhältnis jedoch nicht gepasst. Es ist genau wie auf den Bildern aber da es so gut bewertet war dachte ich es wird trotzdem besonders. Wir waren echt froh nur eine Nacht dort gewesen zu sein, waren zuvor 2 Nächte in der Nationalpark Lodge. Dort war es billiger, wenn man bedenkt dass Frühstück inkludiert ist und kein Taxitransfer (5rm pro Person und Fahrt ) nötig ist.

Excellent for a short stay.

James hat immer Zeit,war so hilfsbereit und offen. Er holte mich nach dem Night Walk ab, konnte viel geschichtliches und Interessantes über Mulu erzählen.Mulu village ist 30 min zu Fuss weg vom Center, was ich toll fand. So war es am Morgen sehr gemütlich und ruhig.

La disponibilité de james qui est très accueillant

Quelle déception. On s’attendait à un endroit familial et le manque de confort ne nous dérange pas du tout. Mais une accumulation de points négatifs nous a fait passé un mauvais séjour. TRÈS bruyant, passage de débroussailleuse à 7h, pas de poubelle, douche à l’eau de rivière froide dans les toilettes, pas de robinet, pas de Clim, pas de fenêtre donc on entend tout, une pompe à eau qui tourne jusque 23h et qui nous empêche de dormir. Je ne met jamais d’avis négatifs mais pour cet établissement les commentaires dithyrambiques sont injustifiés et lunaires.

James e Brenda sono persone fantastiche, ci hanno accompagnato ovunque, sono stati molto accoglienti! Brenda è un ottima guida e i tour sono stati organizzati benissimo. Davanti alla struttura si trova un posto comodissimo per mangiare, che si arriva tranquillamente a piedi.

James owns the place. He is very helpful and sensitive to your needs.

It’s a homestay in the middle of the jungle. You can’t expect a comfortable beed.

James is just such a nice Guy. I really enjoyed my stay. He was very helpful and has great storys to tell. The food at Stella Café is also very delicious. I had everything I needed. Thank you!

James and Brenda were amazing. So enthusiastic and kind, helping us organise transport and tours. The communal area is a nice place to relax with some basic cooking facilities. Close to Stellas and the Marriott for food. Good value for money.

The bathroom is a bit basic with a cold shower (although with the heat we appreciated the cold) and the room had fans but no Aircon which was not a problem at night when the outside temperature cooled down but warm in the day. So long as you don't expect luxury you'll love it here !

It’s a little bit far from the park but it has all the peace that’s needed, accompanied by gecko (if you are lucky)😂 transportation can be arranged with a small fee to HQ, so, not really an issue :)

This was a little piece of heaven:):):) I enjoyed the place so much. It was just nice and quiet,next to the river. I had a really good night sleep there. James was really really nice:) haven't met Brenda,but her husband was really nice and really helpful and I really wished I stayed for at least a week more. This was the best part of my Borneo trip. Just peaceful:) Bonus - you can see fireflies after dark just 5 min away from the accommodation. I love this place, honestly. 10/10

-it was about 30-40 minutes walking from the entrance. Personally,I didn't mind,even in the dark or during the rain as it was safe. But it might not be very convenient for someone. The hosts can give you a ride for RM5.

La guesthouse è carina, in mezzo alla campagna, con una bella area comune. L'host è gentile, volendo c'è una colazione semplice ma buona a 12 myr. Stanza e bagno erano puliti, con ventilatore ben funzionante.

Posizione non comodissima, a 2.5 km dal parco. C'è un ristorante vicino, Stella Cafè, ma era chiuso nel periodo in cui siamo stati, perciò gli altri posti per mangiare erano a 15-30 minuti a piedi. Problemi nel pagamento con Revolut (ma possibile pagare con PayPal, anche se ci sono commissioni).

James and Brenda are wonderful host. They are very personable and my wife and I had nice long chats about their lives and the history of this historic property and village . There is a restaurant right across (which was closed the week we were there) and a grocery store a short walk away. You can use the fully equipped kitchen to prep your meals (small MYR 1 fee to cover expenses) and store your food in the fridge. Nice common area where you can meet other guest and two huge signage about the property history and significant events. Brenda offers guided tours and recommendations for visits to nearby settlements for day trips (e.g., Long Iman). Spent 6 nights at Mulu village and enjoyed my time . We had long conversations with other guest and long discussions with James and Brenda. James can drop you off and pick you up from the airport/park entrance (for a fee) or you can hitch a ride on the Marriott shuttle or locals on their 2 wheelers (for free). It’s on the banks of the river and some interesting bird life in the trees in front of the long house.

It’s 2.5+ kms from the NP entrance , so you will need to avail of James transfer service which comes at a small fee of MYR 5 pp per trip. (Alternatively hitch a ride on the Marriott shuttle 🤪 or flag down a local).

Mr James , the boss and Brenda, his wife are very friendly and helpful. They offered a ride from the hostel to the park office with their 4-wheel drive for RM5/ per person. They also served their guests with free local fruit (jambu air) which they plucked from their neighborhood garden

The rooting smell of dying rat or lizard (carcasses) at certain corner of the room but hardly can be discovered after searching around

I can’t speak highly enough of my stay here. Jame and Brenda are not typical hosts – they have a deep, genuine connection to this land. At first glance, they may seem like ordinar owners, but after spending time with them, I came to learn so much about their own past and the rich history of this place. I feel truly honored to have been welcomed so warmly into their lives. Instead of just being a guest, I somehow became part of their daily rhythm – climbing tree to pick fruit, sharing meals, stories, and laughter. We even became good friends by the end of my stay. Everything about this experience touched my heart. I loved every single moment here and sincerely hope to come back someday. Highly recommended for anyone looking for more than just a place to sleep – this is a place to connect, learn, and belong.

My stay wasn't long enough to fully experience everything in depth.

Die Lage direkt am Fluss war toll. Die Größe des Zimmers war super. Die Besitzer waren sehr lieb und haben sich um alles gekümmert, wenn man etwas wollte. Die Unterkunft war sehr einfach, reicht aber völlig aus.

Das Frühstück war ein wenig spärlich. Die Bettdecken sind für Europäer zu winzig.

Gospodarz otwarty i przyjazny.

W łazience był tylko papier toaletowy. Nie było podstawowego środka do kąpieli czyli mydła. Był aneks kuchenny, w którym za podgrzanie wody trzeba było płacić 1 RM. Obiekt oddalony jest od Parku - ok. 30 minut pieszo.. Gospodarz oferował zawiezienie/odebranie z parku za 5 RM od osoby. W pokoju są tylko wiatraki.

James (property owner, breakfast chef and transport ) and Undi (Guide) were knowledgeable, friendly, informative and helpful. Even when returning to the tiny Mulu airport, they gave advice on check in/baggage etc. Our rooms were large and comfortable. Breakfast was cooked by James. Lunch also prepared and packed for us. it magically appeared in the middle of a cave tour. My husband had a poor stomach. James advised on which product to buy from the local shop. He gave us a lift there to get it.

Everything was as expected and described. Maybe better lighting would be good in the communal dining area so we could play cards in the evening, but this is in no way a complaint as we had a wonderful time

Really lovely homestay with a great host, James. Had an amazing time in Mulu and hope to come back some day!

James was very nice and such a great host! He can pick you up and drop you off wherever and whenever for 5RM/pers. We loved our stay.

Perfekter Service. James hat sich immer die Zeit genommen uns alles zu Erklären, bot an uns für RM5 überall hin zu fahren und war sonst auch immer ein netter Gesprächspartner.

James, der Vermieter, war sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Wenn man wollte, fuhr er einen (5RM) zum Park und holte einen auch wieder ab.

Die Ausstattung des Zimmers war minimalistisch. Kein Schrank, kein Tisch, keine Ablagemöglichkeit, keine Kleiderbügel (nur ein paar Haken an der Tür)

James ist ein sehr netter Gastgeber, der einen jederzeit zum Park fährt und auch wieder abholt. Außerdem hält er einen über die Umgebung auf dem Laufenden, wie wenn manche Shops außerplanmäßig öffnen oder schließen.

Le bruit des coqs et des grenouilles la nuit. Hébergement correct mais basique.

Brenda et James sont aux petits soins. C’est confortable avec un minimum. Le parc national est super bien aménagé

Pas de climatisation, pas de wifi.

Whether to foreign visitors or locals, they welcome everyone with warmth, friendliness, and genuine sincerity. Brenda, a professionally licensed guide, carefully arranged a detailed itinerary for us and led us to make full use of every moment to explore and uncover the mysterious beauty of Mulu. James also took great care of us by preparing breakfast, sharing useful information about Mulu, and driving us to the different places. In addition, the stilt longhouse style of Mulu Village Homestay allowed us to experience the authentic daily living style of the local residents. Fireflies could be seen just a few minutes’ walk from Mulu Village.

It was quite hot during the day when we visited at the end of March. Only a handful of cafés in Mulu were open.

Uns hat alles sehr gut gefallen. Wir waren vor acht Jahren schon hier und freuten uns riesig, dass es das Mulu Village immer noch gibt. James und Brenda sind sehr herzliche und hilfsbereite Gastgeber. Sie machen alles, damit sich die Gäste wohl fühlen. Da die Unterkunft ca. 30 Gehminuten vom Eingang zum Mulu Nationalpark liegt, brachte und holte uns James jeden Tag gegen einen kleinen Aufpreis. Sehr zu empfehlen. Wir würden sofort wieder dort hin.

Es gibt nur kaltes Wasser zum duschen. Das hat uns aber überhaupt nicht gestört, da es eine tolle Abkühlung nach heissen Tagen ist.

Cudowne miejsce i doskonali właściciele. Jeżeli szukacie wygód to bardziej Mariot. Ale jak szukacie prawdziwego Borneo, to dobrze trafiliście.

Großartiger Aufenthalt! Brenda von Mulu Village hat alle Touren perfekt organisiert, zum Teil auch selbst geführt als zertifizierter Guide. James hat mich zuverlässig überall hingebracht und abgeholt, auch früh morgens und spät abends. Die Unterkunft selbst ist ein Erlebnis mitten in der Natur. Sehr einfach, aber es ist alles da, was man braucht. Wer die Natur liebt und ohne Luxus auskommt, wird Mulu Village und Brenda und James lieben. Ich tue es!

La atención del personal (Andrea y, en especial, James muy bien). Traslado del aeropuerto y al parque. Ubicación perfecta, cerca del parque y con servicio de restaurante a 1 min. Desayuno correcto, lo prepara en el momento James. Espacio común y entorno del Hotel. Wifi gratis en el Resort Marriott ;-)

WC pequeño y la toalla muy mal (las deberían cambiar). No tienen wifi pero hay gratis en el Resort Marriott

We had the best time staying here. Brenda and James went above and beyond. The organised trips are so worth it too. We really hope we can stay here again someday.

Lokacija je malo daleč od parka, soba in kopalnica bi lahko bila malo bolj čista.

Deze gezellige homestay wordt gerund door een heel gastvrij echtpaar en ligt vlakbij het Mulu national park. Verwacht geen luxe, wel leuke verhalen over de geschiedenis van Mulu en super jungle trips. Vooral de deer cave was heel bijzonder!

Brenda und James sind unglaublich aufmerksame und liebenswerte Gastgeber, die den Aufenthalt wirklich bereichern. Das traditionelle Longhouse ist wirklich ein Erlebnis wert und bringt zusammen mit James Familiengeschichte die Kultur ein Stück näher.

La hospitalitat del James és excepcional, molt atent a qualsevol necessitat que puguis tenir i amb tota la disponibilitat per ajudar-te en qualsevol cosa. Les instal.lacions són correctes en relació qualitat preu. La ubicació està a 35 minuts del parc caminant però et porten i et recullen per 5rm.

老板热情且善于沟通，旺季接待欧洲团队较多，不容易订到连续日期的住宿，因为偶尔会出现满房，位于万豪一河之隔，距离国家公园入口约2公里，去公园建议提前预约老板付费接送，民宿前的草坪维护的很棒

房间内的配套可以再丰富一些

James nos ayudó incluso antes de llegar poniendo a nuestra disposición todo lo necesario para que nuestra estancia fuese de 10, como los tours que los lleva su mujer Brenda , nos llevaba , nos recogía , ya que Mulu Village está fuera del parque,es un anfitrión encantador, estuvo pendiente de nosotras todos los días que estuvimos en su casa, todo modesto, instalaciones, desayuno. Pero mucha tranquilidad y nada a medida como puede ser un hotel, si buscas algo más auténtico sin duda es el sitio. I LOVE MULU ❤️

Posizione ottima vicino all'ingresso del parco, di fronte a un ristorante locale ottimo. James e Brenda molto disponibili e instancabili padroni di casa e guida turistica (Brenda). Riescono a gestire il tutto e puoi sempre chiedergli attività da aggiungere/passaggi in macchina ecc... Struttura spartana ma carina e con tutto l'essenziale. Ricordate di portarvi contanti! :-)

Staying in a homestay is a great way to experience a little of what life was and is like for local people You could not ask for better hosts...James was attentive, informative, always smiling and always available to help, chat, and give lifts to/from park HQ. Accommodation is, as you would expect, relatively basic but also authentic and there are fans to help keep you cool and an en suite 'wet room: (toilet, sink, shower all in same room...so you do get wet bum using loo and wet feet after someone uses the shower...but all part of the fun). Sitting in the communal area chatting to James and other guests is a great way to pass some time...in between other activities.

De bedden waren prima. James was heel betrokken en verzorgde een eenvoudig maar prima ontbijt.

Het is erg basic dus verwacht daar niet teveel van. Geen airco maar fan, douche is bij de wc. Ik denk dat het gezien de prijs dan nog best redelijk hoog is voor wat je krijgt. Echter, als je niet meer terecht kunt in het park dan zijn er verder weinig alternatieven en dus doet dat ook iets met de prijs.

Excellent accueil, Brenda et James sont très gentils et font tout pour que notre séjour se passe bien. Le lieu est très paisible, les chambres propres et agréables. Très bon petit restaurant juste en face !

Schlichte Zimmer ohne Schnickschnack, aber für wenige Nächte ausreichend. Freundlicher, lustiger und hilfsbereiter Gastgeber.

Fußweg zum Nationalpark etwas weit, aber machbar. Transport per Auto kostet extra. Frühstück etwas teuer wegen der abgeschiedenen Lage.

The location was superb, a gorgeous quiet little spot beside the river and a perfect restaurant opposite for great meals. James’s hospitality was flawless, and he made the entire experience worth it.

It is a little further from Mulu NP entrance BUT the perfect setup of the village made it worth it.

Un peu rustique 2 ventilos dans la chambre de 4 on avait un peu peur… mais finalement la nuit cela fraîchit et on n’a pas souffert de la chaleur

Very nice and helpful owner, I highky recommend if you are looking for an authentic and hospitable experience. My room was very comfortable and the place had all necessary amenities. Great value for the price. Also the owner provides very affordable transportation options for just 5 RM anywhere as well as laundry service for 15 RM. the place was additionally very, very clean. Great deal!

James è una persona molto disponibile, gentile e pronta ad aiutare per qualsiasi esigenza. La loro disponibilità va sicuramente premiata. Ho dormito in una camera singola e bagno condiviso solo con un'altra camera singola attaccata. Camera e bagno basici, ma con tutto il necessario senza troppe esigenze per vivere l'esperienza della guesthouse in mezzo al verde del Mulu Park; la camera e il bagno erano puliti. Colazione disponibile a pagamento. James disponibile al trasferimento al parco e ad accompagnare all' aereoporto a 5 rm. Il ristornate vicino prepara dei piatti molto buoni. Ventilatore in camera, ma la sera non faceva troppo caldo. A 5' in auto dal parco e 10' a piedi da un market, 2 'dal marriott. Eventualmente disponibili tour con Brenda.
