Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Loved the diverse breakfast and dinners. Everything was clean and neat. It was also a social place to meet travelers
You definitely need transport to move around.
Nvt
This is a fantastic homestay in a beautiful location. Don’t expect satin sheets (or glass windows 😉), but for those who prefer homestays over comfy hotels this is a must. Our stay at Meyske’s place and our visit to Tana Toraja were the absolute highlight of our trip to Sulawesi. Meyske is both an excellent cook and a passionate guide. I’d advice anyone to consult her on the opportunities for a 2 or 3-day tour. We absolutely loved it.
No complaints whatsoever
Excellent stay and made some new friends. Good shower! Good food, good vibe. Very nice house with plenty of places to chill.
You simply couldn’t imagine a better, more authentic or more atmospheric place to stay than Meyske’s homestay. This place is magic- surrounded by the sounds of animals, nature and the incredible energy of Toraja. With Meyske’s family around you, you genuinely feel like part of the family. You also get to know the other guests, which made our stay even more special. We made some lovely friends here and, after five nights, we were genuinely gutted to leave and say goodbye to Meyske and her family. We stayed for five nights, and honestly, it was the perfect amount of time. Anything shorter would have been too short! We also booked a three-day tour with Meyske, and she was the best guide we could possibly have asked for. She may be more expensive than some other guides, but if you can, book her! Her knowledge is incredible, she is entertaining, energetic, full of passion and, most importantly, she managed to make our two teenage boys genuinely interested in Torajan culture. She is an absolute badass!! We were incredibly lucky to experience Ma’nene with Meyske- something we will never forget. She made it possible for us to experience it in such a genuine and respectful way, and being there with her made the whole experience even more meaningful. We also let our boys- aged 12 and 15- ride their own scooters during our time in Toraja. They felt completely safe following Meyske, who led the way and knew exactly where she was going. Watching them confidently follow her through the beautiful Torajan countryside was one of the highlights of the trip! And honestly, if we had been with anyone else, I’m not sure we would have felt anywhere near as comfortable letting them do it. We overheard another guide taking a different family around, and honestly… he was so boring! We kept thinking how differently our experience would have been if we had ended up with someone like that, and there is no way our boys would have enjoyed the tour nearly as much.
The guesthouse has a true homestay feeling in a lovely setting. Exactly what we were looking for!Other than being a very good host, Meyske is also a fantastic guide ánd she cooks delicious food! We were really impressed by the tour she had organized for us. She adapted wonderwel to our requests and the fact that our kids (age 6 and 7) came along. We would highly recommend this for everybody who is looking for the most authentic experience in Toraja!
Nothing. Everything was better than expected.
Fantastic host with excellent knowledge of local traditional culture. Accommodation very clean and homely feel. The best food! If you want a very traditional tour of local culture Meyske (the host) was just amazing! She went out of her way to show us the true Alok To Dolo culture. Suffice to say Not for the faint hearted.
Loud at night with dogs etc but were offered earplugs so all sorted.
We spent almost a week at Ne’ Pakku Manja Homestay in Rantepao and felt at home from the very beginning. The homestay is located in a traditional village, which makes the stay feel very special and authentic. The bed was very comfortable, and we slept really well. We especially loved the beautiful bathroom full of plants. It is also a great place for travelers who enjoy social interaction, with family dinners, shared breakfasts, and a cozy social area where it is easy to connect with other guests. The food was amazing by the way. The highlight of our stay was Meyske, the owner and host. She is incredibly warm, helpful, and passionate about what she does. She is also probably the best guide in Tana Toraja and offers guests unique access to traditional ceremonies and local culture. As a photographer, I was especially grateful that she helped me get very close to the ceremonies in a respectful way. It truly felt like we arrived as guests and left as friends. We would highly recommend staying here.
Nothing to complain about
If you're coming to Tana Toraja to witness a Rambu Solo funeral ceremony, I cannot recommend staying with this host enough. She was extremely helpful from the very first moment. When we arrived she was actually busy — already out showing the ceremonies to other guests — but she immediately reached out to a contact of hers who is also involved in the ceremonies, someone she trusts, and he turned out to be amazing too. Her English is excellent, which is rare in this area, and the guide she arranged for us also spoke very good English, so we could understand everything we were seeing. She had contacts for absolutely everything we needed. The homestay itself was lovely. The room was very clean, with hot water and everything we needed — basic, but genuinely comfortable. It really felt like home. All the rooms connect to a warm, homey shared space: a big table where we had dinner with the other guests every night, a cozy reading corner with sofas, and a lovely balcony. She also made things easy in every way: we could rent a motorcycle from her during our stay, and she kept cold beers and soft drinks on hand at very fair prices, so it was simple to grab a drink whenever we wanted. The location is a little outside the center — about ten minutes away by motorcycle — but you need a motorcycle to get around Toraja anyway, so that's no drawback. It's a beautiful, slightly countryside setting that just adds to the charm. And the food — wow. Breakfast was included and amazing, something different every single day. She's a wonderful cook. She also offers dinner for a very reasonable price, and honestly the dinners we had with her were better than any restaurant we tried in the area, and so abundant. We even got to share meals with other couples staying there, which made the whole experience feel special. She was always attentive too — checking in during dinner to make sure everything was good, looking after us the whole time. Nothing was too much trouble.
A homestay were you really feel at home and can relax after exploring Tana Toraja and can connect with other travellers. Meyske is a great host, very knowledgeable and a fantastic organizer. She is a member of the local guiding association with a huge network and can tell you everything about the Toraja culture and traditions. If there is a funeral to attend, she will definitely know about it. She arranged for us to attend a wedding ceremony as well. Besides she prepares delicious food and is a very kind and wonderful person. In sum, we have nothing but the highest praise for this Homestay. 100% recommended without any reservation.

Unique experience with local host
Ne Pakku Manja family is without a doubt the best Homestay we had been in a long time, Meyske (the owner) and her family will make you feel very welcome and cared! The house is situated a couple of minutes from Rantepao, acess is very good and easy, also you can ask Meyske how to get there, she was our guide in Toraja as well helping us how to plan our way to the togean islands and this made the whole difference, also if you want to merge and fully understand what’s behind the Toraja traditions she is the one, the guided tours are very well explained and organized, make sure you don’t miss it. We will definitely come back, a place where you will feel home!
Meyske and her mom were outstanding hosts. The house is beautiful with an amazing bathroom, the vibe is cozy and the food her mother prepared was so tasty. Even days after m departure, Meyske still helped me with recommendations. Can’t thank you enough. 11/10 stars
The Homestay itself is cozy and cute. The Common Area feels like a big, comfortable Living Room. It’s decorated beautifully and makes you feel at Home Right away. The Shared bathroom could not be prettier. Full of plants and a halfway open, it has a little bit of a spa feeling to it. The rooms are simple, with no actual ceiling apart from the houses roof and also no window glasses, but cozy and with comfortable bedding (+mosquito net). I felt super homey! The traditional houses in Front of the homestay belonging to the Family give you the Toraja vibe. The Most amazing about this place to me was having Meyske as my Host. Meyske is not making anything up. From the Minute you meet her, she is authentic, honest and simply herself. She will call you for Dinner by calling your Name loudly, like you have been Part of her Family ever Since. Meyske openly Talks about anything on her mind and is deeply caring about her guests having the best time in Toraja Region. Whatever are your Plans, she is directly invested in helping you with anything you need, let it be in Toraja or anywhere else in Sulawesi. What amazed me even more was her Guidance through Toraja Culture. I highly, highly recommend her as a Guide - not only as a Host. Spending 2 days with Meyske as a Guide, I felt like I was vividly absorbed into Toraja’s culture and its old beliefs. Meyske is creating pictures with her words and has a way of explaining that made me feel as if I was reading an interactive book, making everything about Torajas past come alive in my head. Every Minute I spend Listening and Walking through all the Places she brought us, I was more and more into it and so eager to learn it all. It was probably the best guidance I have ever experienced, with so much Knowledge and without a Single second of boredom - even though it was intense. You can feel how Passionate Meyske is about her Culture. She manages to answer critical thoughts and understands Western views and questions.
Meyske can be hard to reach at times - you may be better of giving her a call than texting, if it is urgent. Also a few more Storage options in the rooms would be useful (but are planned as I heard) :)
On a adoré !
Même en réfléchissant, on a rien trouvé à améliorer
Alles is erg schoon.

Amazing experience. Myske is such an nice host, we felt very good in his homestay She shares the history of her country with great passion, making it truly engaging and fascinating to learn about
Nothing
Authentic homestay feel with really nice hosts Lots of cultural background information from the host Great support with everything Toraja from sights to booking busses, scooter etc. Amazing food
Merci Meyske 🤗🤗
Rien !
I really loved fhe cosy vibe of the accomodation, it felt like home straight away! Also Meyske and her mother and David are very kind, sweet and helpful so that makes it feel even more like a home! The food was amazing, seriously one of the best meals I had in Indonesia!!
If you don’t have scooter it’s a 50min/1 hour walk to Rante Pao centre. For me that’s doable but if you don’t have your own transport it’s something to think about. Ofcourse Meyske will help you with the transport if you want!
We like family of this homestay - very friendly people. Common area is confortable. Shared bathroom is really nice and clean. Food was delicuous. Good location.

Overall, i had an amazing experience here. Although Meyske was not in the country during my stay, she went above and beyond to be present and to guide me through my journey in Toraja. She really listened to what i wanted to get out of my trip and in doing so, she has a remarkable talent in translating my preferences into activities that were so spot on to my likings. She embodies her culture and has a deep respect for human life and different cultures and can easily let differences stand next to each other. From the moment i booked to my presence at her house to the very moment i arrived on my next destination, she took care of everything I asked for and more. I was with her lovely mom, who made great breakfast and even better dinner, but who also has such a big and welcoming heart. I felt so at peace arriving there. Even the cold shower turned out to be a renewing experience, since the bathroom has a very clear and green vibe to it. The room was very okay, , with no window, and even that was how it was suppose to be or at least it gave that feeling 😊. The location is a bit outside the centre of rantepau (not much much), and being alone and not really driving a scooter, made that a bit difficult, but also there, Meyske helped me a lot with other options that made it possible for me to go into town easily. Should I ever go back to Toraja, i would defintitely go back to stay at this place where home suddenly didnt feel far away.
Experiencing small town North Toraja life
The rain during the first night haha
Gezellige homestay in traditioneel dorpje. Super vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Heerlijk eten en elke dag anders. Alles is te regelen: gids, chauffeur, scooter, laundry.
Niets.
Sehr empfehlenswertes Homestay in schöner Umgebung.
I spend 6 nights at Meyske's homestay. Unfortunately she was not there, but even from Germany she went out of her way to make sure everything was okey. She arranged a guide and we had multiple videocalls where she'd explain more of her culture. Much appreciated!!! I absolutely loved the homestay. This was also due to Meyske's mother, who's such a sweet soul! I helped her in the kitchen most of the evenings, she cooks like a star! Also it's easy to meet other travelers, the area for guests is nicely decorated, clean, comfortabel matrassess. But most of all for me it's about the people, Meyske and her mother. Leaving this place literally made me cry, even after 6 days it felt like leaving a home. I could have stayed much longer!
Absolutely nothing!
Everything was perfect : the room, the food, the host (Meyske and her family) who was always available and gave us really nice recommandations (she unfortunately was not available as a guide during our stay but we can strongly recommend her as she knows so much about her region and its traditions). We were emotional the day we left Ne Pakku Manja Family Home and we hope to be back one day !
This Homestay is an experience that will stay with you . The hostess is beyond hospitable , she looks after you as if you are family coming to stay in her home. She was proud to share her culture and assist in any way she could . The food was delicious , the setting authentic and traditional
The distance to the center of town is further than expected however Solutions can be found and the hostess is more than willing to help
Never thought I’d leave a place in tears and yet I did here. What a wonderful, profound experience. My partner and I were lucky enough to stay for just two days, and had the absolute pleasure of doing a three-day tour with Meyske, who is also a guide herself. The Homestay: They truly put the home in homestay. Very quickly we realized that when returning from a tour, we weren’t saying “let’s go back to the homestay”, we were saying “let’s go home.” instead. The place is small and simple: four basic rooms with a mattress, pillow, and blanket. No windows, but a mosquito net (we only saw two mosquitoes the whole time). Two toilets and one shower (cold water, though you can ask for a kettle of hot water). Roosters and pigs can be noisy, so earplugs help. And yet, the feeling? Like coming home to friends. With only four rooms, evenings naturally turn into sharing stories, bonding over a beer, and enjoying some of the best food you’ll eat in Indonesia, cooked by Meyske and her kind, lovely mother. Don’t skip the dinners. They’re fantastic. The Tour with Meyske: Yes, it’s pricier than many options, and you’ll certainly find cheaper guides. But with Meyske, you’re getting something rare. Most tours show you places and facts. Meyske tells you a story. Like any good story, there’s an opening chapter, rising action, real characters you come to care about, and a powerful ending that leaves you deeply touched. That’s exactly how it feels to be guided by her. On day one we learned about the history and background of the Torajan people. Then, step by step, she immersed us in ceremonies, connected us with people, and shared meals and stories with them. Finally, she wove in her own story, showing how it connects to the bigger picture of life in Tana Toraja. And that’s when we were left in tears. I won’t spoil her personal story since it’s something you should experience yourself but I will say this: she once mentioned she hopes for a small, traditional Torajan funeral.

Rien
Bellissimo homestay, molto caratteristico. 😊
A true family home, away from home. The hospitality I met was unbelievable. I felt this was a true homestay and probably the best I have ever experienced! Meyske is a true encyclopedia of local history and culture (a licensed guide) I left wiser and happier than I could ever imagine. All my dreams about Toraja came true and I was taken care of like family and it’s amazing how easy and natural everything felt during my stay and I had only one regret, when I left! That I didn’t stay longer. Book early and remember to book your guided tour with Meyske at the same time and the adventure becomes a reality and fulfilled!
Sorry Meyske, you’ll have to translate to understand. We hope to see you again someday. Thanks again for all your advice on the Sulawesi itinerary for more than a year! 🫶
We had a lovely time at Meyske’s homestay. We were there for 2 nights and took a rest day and she made us feel right at home. The homestay feels like an airy tree house, close to the sounds of nature with a beautiful common area/living room complete with a balcony overlooking the traditional Tongkonan village in front of the house. The home cooked food was outstanding, especially the dinners prepared by her and her mom. Meyske is also a very knowledgable tour guide and she was super helpful arranging the transit up to Lore Lindu National Park for us. 5 out of 5 stars, if you’re in the Tana Toraja do stay at Ne Pakku Manja!
We loved our stay in Meskey 's homestay. If you like authentics places , kindness and help full relations, it's the good adress ! Meskey and her mother are also the best cookers we found in Sulawesi. Breakfast and dîners were various and so delicious. And cherry on the cake, it's the best place to find your guide and discover Torajas culture and traditions with many details. Meskey share her story with a lot of emotions and a great humanity. Be sure you won't regreat. Have a nice Time in her place as we had. It's the place to be !!!
No shadow on the board !!!
Tutto.
Unbedingt machen!
Nichts. Alles war prima.
If you have the opportunity to visit Meyske and her family: catch a flight and go. You will not regret it. It is a breathtaking journey - and an absolute privilege. Thank you so much for letting us be part of this 🫶
Welcomed into a real family home. The common area is cosy and inviting, it encourages guest to gather and mingle. Dining at a large table creates a sense of community. The included breakfast and optional dinners are delicious and plentiful. Meyske, the host, is also a guide. She is passionate and articulate in sharing fascinating aspect about Toragan culture and customs. She is authentic, friendly and knowledgeable. She describes the features of the home accurately. The accent in on culture and community. The stay provided a memorable experience and ongoing connection with other travelers. Exceptional.
Amazing place. Meyske and her mother made me feel at home. Meyske is an incredible person who makes the guest feel part of her family. Cannot miss a tour with her: she is so passionate for her culture and she really involves u in the Toraja traditions. Unforgettable experience! And amazing food!!!
Nothing..
I did book it because of the pictures and did not dissapoint a bit. Meyske was warm and welcoming and eager to help with everything. The location is a bit outside Rantepao but with the most stunning backyard. She made most coziest homestay with great interior!
A wonderful and cozy home stay, an enlightening guest and incredibly talented cook. Thank you for this unforgettable experience!
Niets
Great location in a friendly, traditional style homestay. Lots of great information from Meyske about Torajan culture. Food is fantastic.
Hot water is the next improvement being planned!
Everything . The breakfast, the energy of Meske, the spirit of the house, the dogs , the view …
Nothing . Toraja is a really special place to discover so you have to keep in mind that the guide are doing the best they can to bring you to the best parts of ceremonies. But sometimes, things are not going as planned and that is ok !
Kindness of the host and the hygiene was great. Shared bathroom but this was very clean. Breakfast was varied and awesome.
