The Sanduk Homestay

Pour information, j'ai été logée finalement au sanduk inn juste en face, qui appartient au même propriétaire. J'ai crû comprendre que cet upgrade était souvent proposé lorsque le sanduk inn n'est pas complet pour faciliter la gestion des guest :) j'ai donc pu avoir une chambre avec salle de bain privée sans surcoût ! La gentillesse des hôtes ! Isabelle la propriétaire faisait les navettes tous les jours pour nous amener en centre ville le soir pour diner ou pour faciliter les départs / arrivées en bus. Son frère Ibrahim, guide, partage volontiers ses recommandations sur les itinéraires et visites à faire dans le coin. Une de mes amies a été malade et a dû prolonger son séjour, on lui a gracieusement permis de rester dans la chambre jusqu'àu bus du soir sans surcoût Le petit dej inclus, surtout le buffet indonésien 🥰 Possibilité de louer facilement un scooter sur place Les chambres des étages avec balcon sont très confortables. Celles du rez de chaussée un peu moins grandes et lumineuses mais tout à fait correctes. Très calme la nuit par rapport au centre

Manque d'espace commun pour discuter avec les autres voyageurs, il n y a que la salle du petit déjeuner pas très chaleureuse Assez éloigné du centre mais les navettes que proposent Isabelle compensent largement ce détail !

Both us, and other guests we have met with up with again later got severe food poisoning from breakfast at the Sanduk. (confirmed that it was from breakfast, as symptoms started at the same amount of time after breakfast for all of us, and we did not share any other meals.) Avoid eating there!

Ibrahim, Isabell und Imma sind so tolle Gastgeber gewesen. Meinem Freund ging es nicht gut und Isabell und Imma haben uns um 3 in der Früh ins Krankenhause gefahren und haben dort auch noch eine Stunde mit uns gewartet um alles zu übersetzen. Ibrahim hat uns ganz spontan einen tollen Guide organisiert. So freundliche Menschen! Ganz toll :)

La disponibilità dei proprietari che sono gentilissimi nel dare suggerimenti e organizzare le attività da svolgere (escursioni, cerimonie Togean, ecc), per portarci in città a cena e venirci a riprendere,nel trovare l’autista per spostarci alla prossima meta del viaggio (il proprietario si è prodigato per trovare anche altri turisti con cui dividere il prezzo del driver) Letti comodissimi. Camere pulite. Staff sempre presente.

Tout d'abord, le personnel : Ibra, Isabel et Hikma ont été très serviables, ils se plient en 4 pour vous aider. J'ai été uograde à mon arrivée au Sanduk Inn sans avoir rien demandé. La chambre est grande, confortable avec un balcon donnant sur la nature. Ils m'ont trouvé une voiture partagée à un prix défiant toute concurrence pour aller à Tentena.

Le concert des coqs à l'aube mais c'est vrai pour toutes les homestay ☺️

Está muy limpio, cama muy cómoda, el baño está en la habitación y el agua calentita. Los dueños son muy amables, te ayudan en todo y te llevan cada día a cenar al pueblito. Te recogen el día que llegas y te van a llevar a la estación de vuelta. Mi estancia ha sido Fantástica. No se siente ruido, al revés es muy tranquilo y los desayunos son ricos con tortilla y frutas… lo recomiendo a todo el mundo :)

Ibra 가족이 운영하는 숙소. 모두 너무 친절하고 투어도 알차게 진행해 주었습니다. 야간버스표, 얼리 체크인, 레이트 체크아웃, 부엌사용 등 모든 면에서 편의를 제공해주었고 방도 넓고 깨끗했습니다. 가성비 최고입니다.

The accommodation was great. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. It was the best accommodation during our stay in Sulawesi. Great value for the price. The location is a bit further away from the city, but it is therefore more quiet and offers great views. The owners are also very friendly and helpful.

Tout était parfait, la localisation au calme et à côté du village traditionnel, le confort des chambres, le petit déjeuner, les transferts pour aller dîner en ville et surtout l'accueil et la gentillesse infinie de Ibra et son équipe qui veille à tout moment pour que vous soyez au mieux. Destacar la amabilidad y facilidades que te brinda la familia. Nos fueron a buscar y dejar al centro, nos alquilaron moto y nos dieron datos para que todos los días tuviésemos algo que visitar. Variado, abundante y rico desayuno. Limpieza de la habitación y muy cómoda la cama. Gracias por todo.

Personalen var helt fantastisk och otroligt hjälpsam. Boendet var enkelt men bra. Vi blev uppgraderade till Sanduk Inn som ligger runt hörnet och drivs av samma familj.

Duschen kunde haft lite bättre tryck. Annars var allt bra.

Ibra en Isabel doen er alles aan om het je naar de zin te maken; denken mee over tours, je kunt een scooter huren, eventueel halen en brengen naar het busstation of naar het centrum. Ze hebben een nieuwe homestay erbij gebouwd (Sanduk 2) waar wij verbleven en dat was erg mooi en schoon! Tip; doe zeker de tour met Ritha, aanrader!

The owners are incredibly helpful and kind. They had no issue picking us up early in the morning as we arrived with a night bus and also gave us a room as it was available. Ibra and his sister Isabel are the best. The breakfast is very good and the room is better than what we anticipated. Ibra will answer all your questions about Toraja and is able to arrange any kind of tour. While he speaks to every guest he always takes time to catch up with you every day, making sure your day is maximised by helping you plan it. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Ett väldigt fint boende och oerhört hjälpsam personal. Skön säng och lugn miljö.

Boendet ligger ca 3 km utanför Rantepao och fungerar bäst om du har chaufför eller egen bil. Vi blev erbjudna hjälp med transport in till stan av värden.

Tout d'abord la gentillesse du personnel, le calme et 'à serviabilité

We especially liked the owners Ibra and his sister. They were very kind and helpful. We rented a scooter, had a one day tour with a great guide and Ibra even helped us with our trip to Tentena.

Ibra and his family are the best, they made our time in Toraja so memorable! We were picked up at 5.30am from the bus (from Maros), given a room straight away and breakfast. We were put in a room with our own private bathroom and balcony. Breakfast was a choice of western or Asian style. Each day Ibra spent time with us to ensure we had a list of things to do and places to visit, and also kindly organised us a guide to attend a funeral (we went with a man named Amos who was fantastic also!). I could not recommend Sanduk more, it was comfortable and clean, and Ibra and his family were so attentive and accomodating, even sending us off with packed fruit for our long journey to Tentena.

Nothing to do with Sanduk Homestay - but just a heads up for travellers that on Sundays there are no rituals or funerals in the area. Keep this in mind with planning :)

We stayed at Sanduk 2 (70m from Sanduk 1). It’s a new hotel style room. We got offered this room with a private bathroom when we turned up and it was really nice. Staff are really lovely and helpful! We hired a scooter from them for 100k per day. Breakfast was good, and Ibra was helpful with organising a guide and bus tickets to Makassar.

We are absolutely delighted with our experience. Ibra is an exceptional host. Even though we arrived late on our first day, he personally welcomed us and went above and beyond by upgrading us—not just to another room, but to a different hotel run by his sister, which was also wonderful. She was just as kind and welcoming. From the very beginning, the treatment we received was incredible. They paid attention to every detail: taking the time to answer all our questions, giving helpful suggestions, assisting us in finding accommodation in other cities, and advising us on transportation options. They even surprised us with thoughtful gestures, like bringing us fruit for our long bus journey on the day we left. The breakfast was amazing, with the option to choose between Asian, continental, or European styles. The rooms were clean, and the atmosphere was very peaceful. In the hotel where we stayed (his sister’s), the rooms also had a private bathroom and a balcony, which made the stay even more enjoyable. We truly couldn’t be happier with our stay.

Ibra es un gran anfitrión, nos conseguía todo lo que necesitábamos (guía, moto de alquiler, traslados, etc) y nos proporcionó mucha información. Habitaciones grandes y camas cómodas. El baño solo se compartía entre 2 habitaciones y siempre estaba muy limpio y con papel del WC. Si volvemos por allí repetiremos y sin duda, un lugar para aconsejar a amigos.

Quizás el desayuno no era muy acorde a nuestros gustos, pero estoy segura de que si se lo hubiésemos dicho a Ibra, nos habría hecho algún cambio, pero no quisimos molestar.

Breakfast was a little odd, but tasty. The owner needs to make more of the fact that there is a heritage site a 5 minute walk away...with classic Torajan houses, caves and lots of grave sites! Really worth a visit. He is also able to organise guides and drivers, though we felt paying for both a guide and separate driver, who then drove the owner's car, felt a little exploitative. He very kindly arranged pick up and early check in from the Makassar night bus, which we really appreciated. Overall a great stay and a good base for exploring this super interesting region.

Noise from the road was quite loud. Also piped music in the common and breakfast areas is really dated.

What a Lovely experience we had on Sanduk !!! Arrived with the night bus at 5:30am from Makassar and were welcomed by Ibra, our host, who made ourselves comfortable, prepared great breakfast, booked a guide and a car for the day ahead. Ibra was THE Highlight of our stay, always here to help/guide/recommend, but never intrusive. We felt at home, and even better! Location was ideal for us, not too central, and great start place for trekking or site visits. Too notch ! Thx Ibra

Probably the best homestay experience I’ve ever had. The owner Ibra is an exceptional host, he is so kind and helpful, he really went above and beyond to help us make the most of our stay. The place is far out but that was no problem at all is Ibra organised free transportation to and from Rantepao in the evenings. Would highly recommend this place! :)

Wir waren hier 3 Nächte und hatten eine super Zeit! Wir sind früh morgens mit dem Nachtbus angekommen und durften sogar schon ins Zimmer, weil das schon frei war. Ibra ist ein sehr toller Gastgeber und hat uns viel bei der Planung geholfen. Eine absolute Empfehlung, dieses Homestay zu buchen :)

The room are clean and spatious. The bed is comfortable. Ibra, the owner is really kind! I rented scooter here and they were in good condition, no problems.

It may be a bit remote from the city which has its pro and cons. Keep in mind that you will need to drive there every night if you want to eat in town

Ibra was an exceptional host, showing unmatched dedication, care, and kindness throughout our stay. Although our booking officially started in the afternoon, he came to pick us up from the early morning bus and let us check in immediately so we could rest a few hours before our hike. He even served us a complimentary breakfast that morning. He helped us with absolutely everything. When our group wanted to go into town for dinner, he personally drove us there — again, free of charge. Such a genuine, warm, and down-to-earth person who truly goes above and beyond for his guests. Hats off to him! On the day of our checkout, he even prepared a fresh fruit package for us to take on our long journey. I can wholeheartedly recommend staying here — it was a perfect experience in every way.

Emplacement parfait. A côté du site de Kete Kesu et à 5mn de Rantepao. La gentillesse du propriétaire et sa disponibilité nous ont bien aidés: visites, scooter, livraison de repas et même le transfert offert pour aller à l’arrêt du bus de Makassar.

Ibra justifie à lui seul la note de 10/10. Il est disponible, attentionné, à l'écoute, et toujours prêt à vous aider dans votre séjour. Il vous conseille parfaitement, honnêtement, et discute avec vous. C'est très agréable. Pour ce qui est du homestay, les chambres sont propre et faites chaque jour, le petit déjeuner et très bon et bien servi, les espaces douche et toilette communs sont propres et nettoyés chaque jour. Location de scooter sur place, terrasse agréable.

Eventuellement régler correctement le chauffe eau de la salle de bain du haut, mais sinon tout était parfait.

Homestay toujours propre, petits déjeuner servis avec soin, et Ibra prend vraiment le temps avec les clients, je ne peux que recommander

J’ai trouvé l’établissement charmant et décoré avec goût. Ibra est au petit soin pour ses clients, il est absolument adorable et accueillant. Il nous a donné beaucoup de conseilles et des recommandations d’endroits où aller pour visiter la région. Il met à disposition des scooters que nous pouvons lui louer, ce qui est bien pratique. Il nous a été d’une aide précieuse et nous a permis de vivre un séjour très confortable.

Kleines Homestay etwas außerhalb von Rantepao, aber mit dem Roller innerhalb von 5-10 min erreichbar. Die Unterkunft ist einfach, man teilt sich ein Bad mit einem anderen Zimmer, hat jedoch alles was es bedarf inklusive gutem Frühstück. Ibra war ein fantastischer Gastgeber! Er stand uns täglich mit Tipps zur Seite, organisierte Touren und half uns bei An- und Weiterreise. Wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen!

The Homestay was very comfortable and good. The staff was very friendly and all our needs were met. We could check in right after arriving with the sleeperbus, which was so nice. The common rooms and balcony were very relaxed. There are some nice locations in walking distance. All other locations the staff of the hotel dropped us off. We had two wonderful tours, arranged by ibra. We had a wonderful stay overall!

L'habitació era gran i el llit confortable. Hi havia bany compartit, però quasi sempre el vam trobar disponible. L'Ibra és una persona que sempre està disposada a ajudar i a fer-te les coses fàcils: vam poder fer la bugada directament a través del homestay, ens va reservar els tiquets de bus, i fins i tot ens va donar una bossa amb uns tuppers amb fruita per al viatge! També ens va ajudar a trobar un guia per a cada dia dels que vam estar allà (tour cultural amb la Rita, i un trekking amb el Daud), que van estar genials. Recomanem aquest homestay!

A la nit i ben d'hora al matí pot ser força sorollós (motos, galls, gossos...), però l'Ibra ens va donar una taps i amb això vam poder dormir bé.

Ridurre l'esperienza in questa homestay al fatto di dormire da qualche parte sarebbe riduttivo. Ibra, il padrone di casa, è forse una delle migliori persone che io abbia mai conosciuto. Da The Sanduk Homestay hai la possibilità di entrare in una piccola realtà familiare, conoscere persone ed entrare in contatto con loro e i loro sorrisi. Le giornate sono fatte di calore umano, buone chiacchiere e spontaneità. Le stanze sono semplici e il bagno in comune, non è un hotel di lusso ma c'è tutto quello che serve per stare bene, anche la piccola colazione nella deliziosa terrazza, dove ti rilassarsi fin dalle prime ore della giornata. Ibra, poi, può noleggiarti un motorino, organizzare tour e c'è il servizio lavanderia, tutto al prezzo corretto. Qui credono nel turismo bello, quello lento e di contatto. Una bella realtà davvero! Grazie Ibra, mi mancavi già dopo il nostro abbraccio finale. Ci rivedremo, ne sono sicuro, il mondo ha bisogno di più persone come te! Un abbraccio forte anche a Nia. Vi aspettiamo in Italia.

Ibra and the other staff were very friendly and welcoming. The homestay was very clean with big rooms. Ibra organized us a guide to experience the local toraja funerals. Our guide Rita was very knowledgeable and managed to show us multiple funerals at a different state. We could rent a scooter from the homestay for three days. Ibra organized our night bus tickets to makassar and dropped us to the bus station. We could also do a late checkout which was convenient to catch the night bus.

Such a wonderful place, with extraordinary people. We spent 3 nights here and we felt like we were at home. Confortable, closed to the city, with all solutions and facilities for discovering the region (guides, motorbikes, help for food, everything !). Thank you Ibra and all your staff for your welcoming and kindness. We’re gonna miss you !

This homestay and his owner Ibra are unique, a jewel in Rantepao! Everything that we read in previous reviews was true. Ibra is very helpful in organising tours around Toraja. The room and the bathroom are clean, the beds really comfortable. For breakfast you can choose between western and asian style, both is nice and portions are good and large :)

Absolutely stay here, it was a highlight of our trip! We stayed for almost a week and had such a nice time. The room is comfortable, breakfast is wonderful, the shared bathroom is no problem as only shared with one other room. We rented a moto and had fun seeing the places recommended. Shower was hot. But the star is your host - extremely helpful and caring. He even got my partner a birthday cake for his birthday, and picked us up from the bus station! He is a guide and loves to share his knowledge

Mr Ibra, the host does all he can to make your stay comfortable. It was the best accommodation I had while travelling in Indonesia. Highly recommended. Close to Ketakesu.

The Sanduk was an incredible experience. Ibra is a stellar host who will go out of his way to help you with anything you need. He gave me many great suggestions for exploring the Toraja area. And the accommodation itself is very comfy, nice big rooms and clean shared bathrooms. On top of all that the price was very reasonable so the value cannot be beat. Highly recommended!

Great homestay, big beds, hot shower with good pressure and a shared bathroom that's always clean. Breakfast is one of the best I've had in whole Indonesia. Above all, Ibra is a lovely host and would do anything to help you or make your day better, give you recommendations, his contacts. The funeral ceremony tour with him was also an amazing experience. Absolutely recommended!

The best thing about the Homestay was the lovely host ibra he went above and beyond to help us in every aspect of our stay He had someone meet us from the night bus , let us check in early , arranged wonderful vegetarian breakfast Arranged a guide for us to visit all the funeral and cave burials in the area which far exceeded our expectations. We hired scooters from him at very reasonable cost . He provided recommendations on where to eat . Offered to drop us to town if we didn’t want to ride scooter . He helped us book a day bus back to makassar that we couldn’t find ourselves online and dropped us back to the station The accommodation itself was spotlessly clean with a comfy bed .and you only have to share bathroom with 1 other room (shower always had plenty of hot water 😊) And tea and coffee are provided for free He even tried to help us find somewhere to watch the football at 3am local time Couldn’t recommend highly enough

Ibra is the most helpful and caring host. He ensures the home is clean and comfortable, he helped us to organise everything, took us to town for dinner, picked us up when we had finished, organised scooters, guides, drivers. Fantastic host. Also, this homestay is only 4 minutes walk from Ke’te Kesu, one of the best traditional village/hanging grave sites to visit.

Hospitality, kindness and willingness to help is second to none. The owners made my stay feel at home. Ibra is a fantastic host, he serves delicious breakfasts and the whole space is very homey and welcoming. And it is located in a beautiful quiet area very close to Torajan attractions. On top of that I was helped with my bus ticket back to Makassar. I am absolutely grateful for having stayed in such a wonderful place and if I am in Sulawesi again I will surely come back.

What a nice homestay, run by wonderful people!! An early check in and breakfast after the busride from Makassar to Rantepao! Options are offered for scooter rental, guide to the area and a ceremony, transportation to Rantepao city. Breakfast more than oké!

Highly recommended! I have never experienced so much helpfulness anywhere else. The accommodation is clean, in a good location, in a nice environment. The owner and his whole family are extremely friendly. They are always ready to help with anything: organizing tours, getting to know the area, information about culture and anything else. I thank Ibrahim for everything, without whom my stay would not have been so good

We were very sick during our stay and the owner went above and beyond to make sure we were fed and OK. He was so nice!! He helped us with scooters and bus tickets too. Bed very big, spacious room, beautiful setting. Clean.

This time of year the electricity goes out 4 hours each day- it was inconvenient for us but that's only because we were sick and hot and relying on the fan!

The staff and the cleanliness, flawless. El personal y la limpieza, impecables.

Ibra is a great host, who could help you with all things and questions. It was a pleasure to stay at his house. The breakfast was also amazing!

Ibra is a great host! He made us all the stay unforgettable. He arranged for us the pick up from the airport, rented for us scooters, and also at the last minute visit the traditional Torajan funeral. Ibra also told us a lot of stories and explained the Torajan culture. The Homestay is also very nice. The big rooms with big and comfortable beds, the common space with a balcony and very tasty breakfast. It's a few kilometers from the city center, but that makes the neighborhood very quiet and peaceful, and if you want to go to the town in the evening, Ibra will organize the free transportation. I highly recommend this place for staying in Rantepao.

Nothing, everything was excellent!

Ibrah was an absolutely amazing host. He couldn’t do enough for us. The place was spotless, the breakfast was huge and room were perfect! It felt like a real family home in Toraja! Definitely one of the best places we’ve stayed during our travels. Thank you Ibrah for an amazing stay! We hope to return one day!

Nothing, there’s nothing not to like

The owner is very helpful. Picks you up at the bus station in Rantepao in the early morning, arriving by night bus from Makassar. So very very early check-in will be handled, if possible. I checked in at 6am and the owner prepared me a delicious breakfast. He also arranged a guide and a scooter for the same day so 2 hours later I was allready on a guided visit of a ceremony. The owner himself also is a certifies guide, speaks very well English. Just ask him in avance if you want to make some guided activities, which I highly recommend because of the background knowledge you'd get. The Homestay is close to the village center. Just rent a scooter for low money! It is clean, comfortable, breakfast is rich, always comes with some fresh fruits, eggs....Indonesian style or western style, just tell your preferences. In my opinion you get a lot for a reasonable price. Go for it if visiting interesting and beautiful Toraja Land.
