RockView Dambulla

Nous avons séjourné 4 nuits en août au Rock View Home Stay. Les deux chambres étaient spacieuses, bien équipées et parfaitement propres. L’établissement est à l’écart du centre-ville, ce qui permet d’être au calme tout en s’y rendant très facilement. Les petits-déjeuners sont exceptionnels et variés chaque jour, permettant de découvrir un large éventail de spécialités sri-lankaises. Upul nous a consacré beaucoup de temps et a organisé et nous a accompagné sur différentes visites. Nous avons particulièrement apprécié sa disponibilité, sa gentillesse et ses précieux conseils. Une excellente adresse que nous recommandons vivement !

Gute Lage zu den Felsenhöhlen (10min zu Fuß) Sehr freundliche Gastgeber, haben uns noch eine Rundfahrt zum Löwenfelsen ermöglicht. Danke😊 Sri Lankanisches Frühstück ist sehr gut.

The host family are absolutely wonderful. They are so thoughtful and just want to make sure you are happy, and are seeing and doing enough in the area. They showed me more than I had expected to see/do, and wanted to chat and share things about our respective home countries. The room and shared space was spotless and beautiful, with everything you might need. Breakfast was enormous and very delicious! I wish I could have stayed for longer, and would tell everyone to stay at Rock View without a doubt. Make sure to add a little more time than you think you need - you will not regret it! Coming up to nearly 3 weeks in Sri Lanka, this is my favourite stay so far :)

We reserved for one night and stayed for three. We felt like home. The hosts did everything to make us comfortable, help us organize our visits, and brought us to different sights. Very clean. We liked the hospitality and local tips on where to go. We loved the Sri Lankan breakfast which was different each day. It was fun to watch the monkeys from the balcony. It was a lovely 15 minute walk to the Temple Caves.

Gorgeous balcony overlooking a quiet jungly street, where you could watch monkeys playing. Very friendly hosts who chatted to us and cooked a delicious filling breakfast. Rooms were very spacious and clean. Amazing location just a short walk from the cave temples so we went there early in the morning before breakfast.

I had a wonderful stay! The room was spacious, very comfortable, and equipped with everything I needed. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and incredibly generous — the perfect start to the day. The family is truly lovely, so kind, helpful, and attentive, which made me feel right at home. The house is set in a peaceful and relaxing environment, yet still close to many beautiful places to visit. And one of the highlights: watching monkeys from the balcony — such a magical experience! 🐒✨

We stayed one night at Rock View Homestay and it was a wonderful experience. The location is perfect to visit the Dambulla Caves, just a short distance away. The hosts are a warm and welcoming family who immediately made us feel at home. They truly went above and beyond, even helping my boyfriend arrange a surprise for my birthday—something that exceeded all expectations and made our stay extra special. If you’re looking for a place with a great location, comfortable stay, and hosts who genuinely care about their guests, we can highly recommend Rock View Homestay. Krásné ubytování nedaleko Cave Temple (5 minut chůze). Personál byl milý a vždy ochotný nám s čímkoliv pomoci. Snídaně byly bohaté. Ubytování jsme si prodloužili ještě o jednu noc. Velmi doporučuji!

宿泊の当日に予約したが、街まで迎えに来てくれ、帰りもバス停まで送ってくれた。オーナーも大変良い方で最後に迷惑をかけたが大丈夫と言っていただいた。また機会があれば是非宿泊したい。

Lo staff era incredibilmente accogliente, la struttura è molto vicina al tempio, ci si può arrivare a piedi. Camera molto pulita e rifornita di asciugamani, saponi e thè. Aria condizionata perfettamente funzionante. La proprietaria è molto disponibile e cucina in maniera deliziosa! Ottimo appoggio per visitare la zona.

This homestay is amazing! It looks just like the photos in Booking. It is clean, cozy and peaceful. The hosts are wonderful people that really made us feel as part of their family. Their breakfasts and dinners were also super tasty. The AC works perfectly. There is a balcony where you can sit and relax. The homestay is 10 min away from the Dambulla Cave Temple (walking distance). Overall, perfect place to relax, visit the area and enjoy the hosts company!!

This is not related to the homestay, but be careful with prices in this area. Sometimes they offer you a service (a tour, a bus ticket, etc.) for a price and then try to change it midway. Happened to us a few times. Again, this is not related to the homestay! Just some advice for fellow travellers :)

Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Aufenthalt in Dambulla. Der Besitzer war sehr nett und hat uns vom Bus direkt abgeholt. Das Frühstück war sehr authentisch und lecker und jedes Mal ein bisschen anders. Wir haben einmal ein Abendessen im Homestay gegessen, dieses war ein super vielfältig, füllendes, leckeres Curry, welches wir nur empfehlen können. Bei der Organisation von Ausflügen wie eine Safari in den Minnerya-Nationalpark hat uns der Host auch geholfen. Alles in allem waren wir sehr zufrieden!

El Johnny i la seva dona son una parella encantadora, i molt atents amb els hostes. Ens van preparar uns esmorzars de primera i inclús ens va explicar una mica l’història de Sri Lanka. També ens va ajudar a llogar una moto i ens va donar consells d’on anar. Vam estar molt a gust!

The ultimate guesthouse, just a short walk to the dambulla caves. Extremely helpful hosts drove me to the caves and atm free of charge. Room is spotlessly clean with great facilities, large and very modern, good shower and fast wifi and great air con. What makes me want to go back the most though was the breakfast, it was unbelievably good.

It was the perfect place for us in Dambulla. Walking distance to the cave temples and golden Buddha was a real bonus for us. The hosts were so lovely and generous. They gave us special New Year sweets to take with us and even some chilli seeds. The room was big and clean, as was the bathroom. A/C worked really well and the monkeys behaved themselves for a change :)

Property itself was well maintained and guest areas were very clean. It’s is very close to the temples! The lady who runs the property is amazing, such a love and generous cook.food is great.

There are ALOT of monkeys. Location is abit out of the way for anything other than the temple or if you don’t have transport

This place is a gem, perfect location for the rock cave temple. Lovely clean comfortable room with ice cold aircon, the hosts are wonderful and friendly. They provided a delicious breakfast before we headed off in the morning. Loved it there.

Meeting the family. We read lots of reviews before deciding and the family were lovely. We took Upul's offer of a tour around the next day for a price which was good. He was very patient and prepared to wait wherever we went. We weren't really wanting to go to silk shops or massages but I enjoyed the herb garden and quick massage by the apprentice (lovely young lady) for a donation and the sleeping oil. Think it's helping 👍 We enjoyed our hike up piduranga rock and dambulla temple which was really easy walk from the homestay and Wathsalla preparing breakfast and one dinner. Bohoma stuthi. 🙏

Obviously the monkeys are very cheeky and come right up to the bedroom window so leave the place closed up. They are more wary of males and Upul keeps an unloaded rifle close by to just show them and they take off. They come on the roof too. Luckily they go in to the jungle through the night.

Beautiful house in a quiet part of the Dambulla. Room was clean, large with very good AC and very comfortable, large bed. Super friendly and helpful hosts. Also, the breakfast was just absolutely delicious (Sri Lankan style)

Food was delicious and they prepared all fresh. Location is quite peaceful and walkable distance to the Cave Temple. The host is a lovely family and is available 24/7 for any assistance, local guidance, etc.

Pleasant accommodation in a beautifully decorated house near the cave temple. The owners were great hosts. It was nice to chat with them. They also organized excursions in the area for us.

The nicest couple you could hope to meet, run this home stay. They were kind, patient and always trying to do their best for guests. We had 3 nights and evening meals and each one was delicious with very generous portions. Yummy. We loved the large, spotlessly clean rooms with communal balcony to watch the world go by. Also an easy 7 minute walk to the temple complex so very convenient. Tip: take socks which protect your feet from hot ground when you have to take your shoes off at the temple site! I doubt we will meet such lovely hosts again in our trip this year. Thank you for everything.

The owner was very friendly and organized my trips for a reasonable price. The food is delicious. 2km from city center but no need to go there as you get everything here. 5 minutes walk to the cave temple.

Absolutely Fabulous Stay! Liked · This was definitely the best property I could have chosen in my whole trip across Sri Lanka. Not only is this walking distance from the Rock Temple, but is also very close from the main highway, so easy to find. The hospitality is out of this world. Things to highlight: 1. The host proactively reached out for my arrival time and even though it was very late, he stayed up and ensured we had everything comfortably (inc. an extra blanket) before he left. He also helped us with the luggage as the rooms were on the 1st floor. 2. The hospitality is out of this world, the host's wife comes in the morning with freshly prepared breakfast and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD - all possible Sri Lankan dishes including Hoppers, curry, Sambol. 3. The view from the sitting area is superb!!! Trees all around 4. Comfortable and spacious rooms, with all types of basic things available like hair dryer, scissors, etc. 5. Air conditioner and hot water both are available 6. Clean washrooms and comfy beds 7. Private parking inside the property Absolutely loved this property- recommend everyone to stay here!!!!

We had a fantastic stay at Rock View in Dambulla, thanks to the warm hospitality of Upul and his wife. They made us feel like part of their family from the moment we arrived. Upul kindly picked us up from the airport and drove us around over the next few days at very fair prices. Along the way, he shared insightful tips and fascinating stories about the country and its people. The breakfast was varied, featuring local specialties, and both breakfast and dinner were freshly prepared by Upul’s wife. Every meal was absolutely delicious! The price-performance ratio for the room was unbeatable. Additionally, the stunning Dambulla Cave Temple is within walking distance, which was very convenient for exploring the area. We highly recommend Rock View to anyone visiting Dambulla. 10/10!

Extremely nice homestay, at 5 minutes (walking) from the entrance to the caves. The owners are extremely kind: whenever they could, they offered me a free time to the bus station (I used Dambulla as the base for daytrips to Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura, both are at 1,5-2 hours by bus). The lady cooks delicious dinners, and was kind enough to cook me a special, non spicy curry. Some 1,5 kilometers away from Dambulla center. Overally, an exceptional homestay.

The property was super clean, comfortable and in a brilliant location for visiting the Dambulla Cave Temples - walking distance from the property. Upul and his family were wonderful hosts and helped us plan our short time in Dambulla visiting the Cave Temples, Rose Quartz Mountain and other sites. A fantastic Sri Lankan breakfast which introduced us to lots of traditional dishes - the best food we have had in Sri Lanka so far. Upul helped us with transfers from Colombo Airport and also drove us via some key sights to Sigiriya. Thank you for getting our Sri Lanka adventures off to a brilliant start!

Really friendly and helpful hosts, clean and quiet rooms. Both the dinner and breakfast were varied, fresh, plentiful and tasty. Overall incredibly good value. Very short walk to the rock temple ticket office and entrance and there were rice paddies and ruins and a stupa before temple entrance. Host offered to drive me and another guest to sigriya at a very low price. Very kind hosts and I felt at home. Lovely breezy balcony to hang out and great WiFi too.

Great owners, very welcoming and kind. The room was very clean, we had everthing we needed. The house has a nice terrase facing jungle trees where you can spot monkeys and birds. Breakfast was good, location is perfect, close to Dambulla center but on a calm and green street. It is the street going to the cave temple - in about 5-10 minutes you can walk to the temple. Tuck-tuck to Dambulla is about 0.7 euros.

Our hosts were so welcoming when we arrived on our bicycles like drowned rats. Wathsala cooked a delicious meal for us and her son Kithu spoke very good English. We enjoyed being able to walk up the road to the Cave Temples and watch birds from the balcony.

The place was really nice and clean. The bed was one of the most comfortable ones on our whole trip. The place is a little outside of the city but we enjoyed the quiet and relaxed atmosphere and we could walk to the cave temple. But what made the stay special were our lovely hosts! They made sure we were always comfortable, helped us arranging a safari and our next stay. We even spent one evening together on the balcony talking for hours. It was great talking to locals and getting a chance to ask all of our questions that came up during our time in Sri Lanka. Thank you very much!

I had such a wonderful time here. The hosts Upul and Wathsala are just so kind and warm. Rooms are clean and spacious, the breakfast/dinner was typical Sri Lankan, very tasty! They made me feel like part of their family.😊 It is peaceful and out of the way from Dambulla so expect either a 25 min walk from the centre or a tuktuk. 5 min walk from the Temple. Upul kindly showed me a rock nearby (hence the name of the place) and saw one of the most beautiful sunsets. Bit of a steep climb and I probably shouldn't have done it in flipflops lol but it was so worth it.

5 minutes walking distance from the famous Caves and from the Golden Temple. The hosts are incredible; friendly, kind and warm they made my stay in Dambulla special. Rock View is super clean, excellent bathroom facility and a very good hot powerful shower! The room was spacious and functional, modern and comfy. Amazing fresh and generous breakfast. Rock View is surrounded by nature and at night it’s quite, the perfect place for a good night sleep.

Good internet connection, probably not one of the strongest I found travelling around but definitely good, does the job.

Uplul&vatsala are exceptionally gracious hosts.Vatsala's authentic srilankan breakfast & dinner were delicious. The long balcony overlooking a huge mango tree &the forest beyond are added bonus for a totally relaxing vacation. Large,clean,well appointed rooms with huge windows.

Host Upul is a nice man and help to arrange my schedule in Dambulla. Located quiet area just 5 minutes tuk tuk drive. Breakfast is nice and had dinner here traditional Sri Lankan food. Ceiling fan and air conditioner work well and breeze evening. Really satisfied in staying here. Nice 3 little boys of Upul. Upul offer me drive to the lake and one buddhist temple with his car. Much much better than any restaurant. The owners live just down the street and will take care of you like one of their own. Lovely family.

This is an exceptional small homestay. Clean,comfortable with a lovely balcony to sit on. Perfectly situated for Cave Temples and semi rural area.. The host and hostess went beyond expectations and couldn't do enough for us. They provided an evening meal that was the best Sri Lankan food we have had and breakfast.

The family was super friendly and nice, we enjoyed the best dinner and breakfast during the whole trip in this wonderful place. The homestay is also very authentic. Thinking back it makes us smile.

Fabulous place to stay! The couple running it are the most helpful and loveliest hosts you can imagine. I had breakfast and home cooked dinner and both were plenty and wonderful. The room was very clean and spacious, the setting of the house is on a quiet road, reasonably close to town and only a few hundred meters to Dambulla Rock Caves which are really stunning. They booked a safari to Minneriya National Park for me at a really reasonably price and gave me lots of travel advice and other information about their home country. I hope to come again and stay in this wonderful place!

After a week of travel in Sri Lanka, Rock View was the first place i felt at home. Upul and watsala are so welcoming, the food is bomb, and we even organized a family cooking class!

Perfect stay: Lovely hosts, great room including bathroom, communal area and bathroom with beautiful views, delicious breakfast. It's a very calm area with monkeys playing around in the trees. Next to the Dambulla temple (5 minutes walk). Thank you!

This place is worth a visit! The room is very clean and comfortable, the food amazing and the location perfect to explore the region or climb the rock for the sunset. On top the hosts are some of the nicest people we ever met. We came back after few years and still the same. :) they are so warm and welcoming and do everything with love. It was so nice to stay here ..everything was clean,beautiful area with views and peaceful ,only 1km to dambulla city and 500m to dambulla cave temple .The host and his family are so lovely and helpful they help you to organized everything what you want to see .upul arrenged dinner for us.the taste was amazing.their was nice belcony .i would like recommend enyone who come to dambulla to stay atleast one night in this amazing place .

I was their first guest after they took a three-year break from hosting people, but everything was running smoothly as if they had never stopped. Breakfast was very varied and the hoppers were the best I tasted in Sri Lanka. The hosts welcomed me with lemonade and cake and even on my way back from visiting the cave, at the hotel just to retrieve my bags after I had already checked out, they had fresh lemonade for me (which was VERY much needed). The room was bright and spacious and the bathroom was very modern. Perfect stay!
