Reviewed Sep 14, 2026Beautiful location, the views from the lobby and rooms are stunning and captivating. The area is lush green and great for a break from city life.
Top class facilities including pool, gym, spa and nature activities.
Food was very good and priced quite reasonably. All cuisines on offer were delicious and properly made.
Housekeeping services were timely and efficient and the staff was very polite and sincere.
The cottages are spacious and well maintained and the resort has a super premium feel.
Nothing in particular but a few suggestions for an enhanced experience:
Window blinds in the rooms need to be automated or curtains need to be put additionally. It's a task to roll the blinds up and down every day as they are big and cumbersome to handle.
Breakfast is very good but the buffet display is limited, lots of items are for table order which needs to be properly explained as guests would not know what all can be ordered. Sometimes the breakfast service gets confusing with missed orders especially if it's crowded so can plan and train the staff better for that.
Some of the resort areas are fairly desolate and there are no means to call a buggy like we were stuck one evening near the outdoor pool area. Need to have some proper arrangements like staff presence or installing hotel phones so that guests unknowingly don't get stuck in the huge resort compound with no means to communicate with the hotel.
Could consider adding high tea or complimentary evening snacks as is the trend in many premium properties especially over the weekend.

Service is exceedingly poor. Essentially, the staff at this hotel, including the restaurant, are a mix of old hands and people who don't know a spoon from a fork. As a result, service was almost always terrible at the restaurant (getting orders horribly wrong, bringing desserts to the table before appetisers, taking exceedingly long to serve a course even after reminding the wait staff several times). Ganesh , Adarsh and a couple of others at the restaurant were good, rest of those who served us were simply incompetent.
As others have mentioned, buggy service can be unreliable, but that's less of an issue if you plan ahead
On day 2, we spotted fresh rat droppings in the pantry in our room. Given it is a forest area, maybe there's some wiggle room on "wildlife" in rooms, but the subsequent changing of rooms was handled terribly.
The surroundings were truly divine, but the horrible service and hygiene issues ruined it for me.

Reviewed Feb 22, 2026Amazing extensive property with the accommodation largely concealed from view making the forest the star of the show. Great facilities. Would have been good if there had been a place to get food and drink by the outdoor pool without going through room service, but this was a minor issue. We loved our time in Madikeri, thought the morning rainforest walk was great and we even extended our stay as we could not bring ourselves to leave.

Reviewed Dec 18, 2025Exceptional view and location. The villas are well maintained and very quiet. Privacy is maintained at all times and indeed a 5 star experience. The spa was very attentive to our requests and the swimming pool and jacuzzi are well maintained.
The villas can get cold at night, better heating would have helped. Some cushions on the terrace would be nice.

Reviewed Jan 17, 2025The cool and serene atmosphere; a place far away from the noise and pollution of cities, eco-friendly buildings, and the surrounding rainforests are plus points of Taj Madikeri.
The dinner at ferntree was belo par. However, the breakfast was generous and scrumptious.
There were lot of activities like hiking, kayaking and zipline for those who love adventure.

The property is beautiful and could be great if some logic and thought went into the day to running of all the facilities
Nikhil who served us at the grill was incredible, he was the only stand out person who really looked after all his guests
It was very hard to get around
No site tour so while not easily being able to get a buggy we also had no way to work out on day one what was where.
Not all facilities operational which is not ideal for a property of this caliber and cost.
Steam room not working in ladies area next to the indoor pool
Outdoor pool by the grill not functioning day one and on the second day it was only make available when we instructed the team member there to set up beds

The breakfast was show stopper. Such amazing variety! Options they have cater to all ages. And the staff is super helpful when taking care of your needs. If you need packed breakfast, that's arranged too. Their Jalebi's were out of the world.
Everything was good. I did raise the slippery moss part outside our room, in rainy season it can be dangerous with eldery around, who can slip and hurt themselves.

Reviewed Jun 24, 2024The location and the views from the property are just amazing. The place itself feels like nestled in a forest on the hills. We did not go out of the property for the two days that we stayed there. The staff is wonderful and the food is great too. A very sumptuous breakfast and the dinner at The Grill was a wonderful experience too. The rooms are quite spread apart over the property and it requires you to call a buggy service every time you have to move within the property since the terrain is not very walking friendly with lots of steep up and down slopes in. But the buggy service is very quick and we received one every time within 10 mins of requesting it.

We were two adult and two kids. We had Dinner included + breakfast in package. When we set for dinner they said we cant take more than 2 dishes in main course. Very surprising. How can we manage two people food with two dishes. Even in the breakfast we asked them to provide 8 Paratha and they said they can provide only 4 .. Simply surprising..

My immediate reaction at check-in was that I'll visit this property again-and-again, but by the time I was checking-out, I would say I wasn't so sure about that. Read on for details.
The property is absolutely fantastic, a ton of thought has gone into planning the entire resort. Few cottages, nicely spread apart, great set of activities that keep the kids busy, good spa (as usual), fair spread of food morning noon & night

The staff doesnt answer intercom - happened twice during the short stay. Incredibly frustrating
Buggy wait times are a bit much, but this is still understandable.
Lastly, I requested for an hour's extension to my check-out (due to a spa appointment) which was turned down.
The morning trek turned out to be one big condescending monologue versus a peaceful trek in the hills

Additionally, the hotel offers well-planned activities for children, ensuring a memorable stay for families. The staff members were consistently smiling and helpful, thus adding a positive touch to the guest experience.
The outdoor breakfast area was indeed beautiful, but the indoor space left much to be desired as it was uncomfortably hot and lacking in character. There was a noticeable shortage of coolers or fans, suggesting that the hotel may not be adequately equipped for hot weather conditions. Additionally, due to its location on hilly terrain, guests depend on internal transportation provided by the hotel, such as jeeps or golf carts. However, the average waiting time for this transportation is 10 minutes, and during meal times, it can extend beyond 20 minutes.
Moreover, the staff appeared to be inexperienced, resulting in various errors from reception to the dining area.

Reviewed Mar 15, 2024The concept of spending time in the forest was wonderful. We also really enjoyed the food, and the restaurant staff were amazing. The rooms were spacious and with very nice views. The pool facility was also very nice.
The reception and check-in were not the best. Since there was no formal check-in we had to wait long in the lobby, after a long road trip this wait can feel longer than it is and this could have been handled better. I wish the games room and the pool remained open for longer hours.
