Lovely traditional apartment full of character. Very well equipped and well located.
Absolutely nothing!
Characterful property in a great location. No parking but free car park a few minutes walk away.
Locatie.,zeer gastvrije mensen.
Veel lawaai straatkant.
Peter & Valery were excellent, perfect location in Ypres. Arranged parking for us at no cost and a superb apartment in a great building a café bar on site with a wonderful garden. Good value and would stay here again.
Nothing, was a perfect stay.
Warm friendly welcome from the start .the owners are lovely people ,and very polite and accomodating . the bar and shop are fantastic .a real nice place !!! Will definately be back

Huge apartment, very clean, amazing location to walk 2mins into main square. Beautiful building and very friendly and kind hosts.
We loved our stay here, a really beautiful apartment, light and airy, very well equipped and in a great location. Central but quiet. We received a very warm welcome from the hosts who were helpful and generous during our stay. Thoroughly recommend!
Superb in every way - great location with the benefit of easy parking. Loved having use of the private garden, although we’re not sure whether this is the norm, or special circumstances. The apartment is so characterful and anyone who would like to feel they’re staying in a real Belgium home furnished with period furniture and full of brocante style touches will enjoy this just as much as we did. Thank you Peter and Valerie 💜
Nothing not to like, although anyone who is infirm or travelling with lots of luggage should be aware there are narrow steep stairs up to the apartment
The location was excellent. We appreciated free parking and use of the lovely garden. The house was full of history and very comfortable. We all slept so well. Peter explained everything to us very well. Would recommend without hesitation.

The hosts were very welcoming and attentive. Location was perfect for our family and loved the history of the building as well. A homely feel to the apartment.
Everything about this location is fantastic.
Lekker dicht bij centrum
Helaas geen airco
The apartment is really comfortable and clean. It is well set out and spacious. Very clean. We enjoyed the lovely Belgian chocolates and wine, thank you so much. We would not hesitate to stay here again.
We loved everything
A beautiful apartment, very clean and lots of room. Perfect for walking to the main square and attractions in Ypres. Thank you for the chocolates and wine, they were a lovely treat. Would definitely stay here again

A beautiful historical location, lovely accommodating host, and incredible city!
Super ontvangst en vriendelijke en behulpzame eigenaren.
Great location, good base for exploring Ypres. Apartment was beautiful, the corner window to sit and watch the world go by! 😍 The owners were very welcoming, they have thought of everything you might need for your stay. Great to learn about the history of the building. There is also a lift which was useful for transporting our bags to the apartment and there is a cafe/bar underneath open during the day to enjoy. Thank you for a lovely stay!
Fabulous location. Quirky beautiful old well furnished apartment. Very friendly and helpful hosts
Poor quality towels which was a let down.
Amazing location, Valery and Peter made us feel so welcome and helped us in every way we needed. We loved our stay and the kids loved it too! Access to the garden was a nice bonus, although too hot when we stayed.
Everything was perfect, the weather was so hot! But obviously nothing to complain about, Valery brought us a fan to help with the kids sleeping.
In a nice location
The smell of drains was overwhelming in the apartment
Location good everything you needed was provided Clean and tidy
Nothing to dislike
This is a lovely property. A large upper floor flat with two very large rooms, bathroom and hall. There is a lift to the first floor and then a further flight of stairs to go up and another to go down. Very efficient heating system, plentiful hot water and adequately equipped kitchen. Ideally situated for visiting Ypres. Owner provides a blue disc for use during stay which allows parking in areas nearby for up to two hours at a time. There are also 30 min slots available nearby for unloading if required and free car parks within walking distance for longer stays. Easy to find using sat nav.
We had agreed to call Owner an hour or so before our arrival to find out about access to property. Owner's phone was permanently 'busy' so, in the end we drove to the accommodation, were lucky enough to find a 30 min parking slot nearby and texted to say we were there. Turns out the Owner works in a shop underneath the property and has a lock box for keys. It would have been much easier if we had either been told to go to the shop for the keys on arrival or given a code for the lock box. Other than that it was great.
A beautiful apartment in an ideal location. Peter, our host made us feel welcome, taking the time to provide us with an outstanding history of Ypres, the guesthouse, and the lovely Belgium people. This has been a highlight of our month in Europe. I highly recommend a stay in Huis Vandermersch!
Great location, responsive host! Good facilities. Thank you!
Kitchen area was a little limited Sofa bed wasn’t very comfortable
The location was amazing in the middle of town with parking close by. The hosts were friendly and helpful and provided us with everything we needed including a lovely gift of chocolate and wine.
alles was dik on orde, niks viel tegen.
We thoroughly enjoyed staying in the apartment in this grand building. It had everything we needed for our 2-day winter stopover in Ypres. We particularly liked the historic feel of the place and the views over the snow-covered garden. Great location close to the centre of town and an easy walk to the Menin Gate. Valerie and Peter were great hosts. We met them on arrival and Peter showed us around and explained the history of the house.

Location, character, cleanliness, facilities, decor, furniture, beds. Just about everything.
The stairs were a bit of a challenge but added to the character of the apartment I guess!
Localização excelente!
Senão estivesse chovendo
The apartment is in the oldest original building in Ypres. It is a pretty building and the interior of the apartment is tastefully decorated. Everything you need is provided. The location is perfect for checking out the town and getting to the Menin Gate ceremony.
A perfect place to stay

Lovely spacious apartments with everything you could need. Location was perfect with easy walking to the main square and Mennin Gate. Would stay again!

Localização wonderful
I like Everithink
Found easy 2hr parking close to apartment which is set above a great little Giftware/Café with courtyard. Access to rooms are made easy with a basic lift, due to the 17th/18th century classic staircase would make it a challenge. Heaps of old world character with uneven floors that have the ageing creeks as you walks around the apartment. (My granddaughter found this a bit of a challenge to sleep with the noise) Fantastic position to all the main tourist attraction's with safe and easy walking. Also just a short walk to free parking along classic streets with amazing things to find in the nick knack shops. Very roomy and classic original windows for open air feeling.
Sadly the hot water jug was unusable to major scale build up.
Perfect location, easy access to just about everything. Nice and quiet bedroom, no sound whatsoever. And the flat is exactly as described and seen in the pictures. Recommended!
This was a beautiful and historic apartment. Fantastically situated. I met with the very helpful and gracious host. They had left lots of wonderful welcoming delights too!
The stairs are steep and narrow. That's quirky and interesting but may discourage some. There was a lift but I didn't check to see if it worked!
Beautiful apartment set in a lovely location. Comfortable with a relaxing garden. Ideal location in all ways. Hosts very helpful.
All.wonderful.
Ideal location. Very clean and very homely and wanted for nothing. Can wait to stay again.
Wonderfully central and full of character.
The history of the building shone through. The gorgeous window seat and excellent location. This is a superb place to stay. Make sure to speak to Peter about the history of this building. There is also a lift for accessibility and close to train station for days out.
Nothing!
Everything
Parking - free parking areas are located within a short walk from the hotel. Immediately outside there’s ample parking for short durations. The owner kindly supplies a parking display badge that permits two hours free stay. The hotel is ideally located a few hundred yards from the main town square. An evening walk leads you through the towns history, taking in the many memorials to the fallen of WW1. Saturday morning brings the local farmers and stall holders to the town square where you can sample the many cheeses and feast like a king on the roasted meats. You won’t go hungry! The hotel has a rustic charm, beautiful and welcoming. You can choose to unwind in the garden, or as I did, sit at the window with a cup of tea, listening to the quiet chorus of the morning. Absolute bliss, no town traffic or loud music to be heard.
There was nothing to dislike. Belgium is such a clean place, no litter, such a quieter pace of life. If you want a short break, with time to just watch the world go by, Ypres and the surrounding countryside has it all. About the hotel, and it’s not a criticism, just a note of warning for anyone with any physical impairment. The hotel has a lift to some levels, as the stairs can be rather short and steep.
A warm welcome from the host, the apartment, garden are relaxing and peaceful. Comfortable bed, nice homely touches, clean, feels effortless
The kitchen worktop is a little too high, but only using a short while so not really an issue.
Lovely central location, well equipped apartment with friendly host
Niets
Everything was excellent. The owner gave clear instructions about the keys and the parking before arrival (there is a parking permit available for 2hr use for street parking outside the house), and also left a bottle of wine and some Belgian chocolates for us. The apartment was beautiful and bright, huge, peaceful and spotless. We loved falling asleep with the huge windows open onto the private garden and the fresh air. The bathroom is modern but still fits into the character property really well. The location is perfect as it's just a short walk to the main square and Menin Gate. I wish we could have stayed longer as we were very happy at the house.
No complaints about anything.
Loved the traditional style of the property and the finishing touches.
None
Fabulous host with a fabulous apartment in a fabulous location, we loved it.
There is nothing not to like, only that I wish we were staying longer!
Perfecte locatie, prachtige authentieke woning. Alles keurig.
What a beautiful old apartment! We really loved it here. It's in a great location and the hosts were quick to respond to my queries.
This property was incredible. The history behind it was amazing, the facilities made our stay very comfortable, the decor was beautiful, the hosts were lovely, being able to use the gardens was a lovely bonus. We had the loveliest time at this property and I really felt like I was living in a piece of history
Nothing, it was perfect
Host was waiting for us to arrive and introduced the property to us personally.
There was absolutely nothng to compain about.
We kregen een warme ontvangst in een uiterst zorgzaam gedecoreerd appartement. Alles wat je nodig hebt, is aanwezig. Super ligging.
Great location, cleanliness and welcome in this historic building.Peter runs the beautiful interior shop below and is most helpful and friendly
nothing
Nice spacious apartment with a lovely garden area. Close to everything and within walking distance to the main sites.
Sehr geschmackvoll mit viel Liebe fürs Detail eingerichtet; zentral; sehr nette Hosts; alles unkompliziert; großartige Ausstattung; sehr bequeme Betten; toller Ausblick; schönes, altes Haus
Stayed in the apartment for 4 nights in June, and loved every minute. The apartment had plenty of space for the family, and everything we needed to cook etc in the kitchen. Wifi and smart TV were great too for a bit of down time. The apartment was on a beautiful corner, so had lovely views of the pretty street. Hosts were very friendly and communication was great. Apartment is a short walk to the main square, and about 10 mins walk (if not less) to the Menin Gate. Therefore perfect location of being in the centre, but there was no noise etc. Apartment has use of a beautiful private garden also, which was particularly nice to sit out in in the evening. Would definitely recommend and hope to return.
Not a criticism, but we were glad of the fan provided as the weather had been quite hot (at least for us). I'd maybe suggest providing a second fan, so that there can be one for each bedroom if the weather is hot in Summer.
First of all, an absolutely beautiful property with a lot of history that has been done justice by an owner that clearly cares. It has exceptional pre-war Belgian character whilst also feeling tasteful and modern. It was really big and great value for money too, with lots of utensils and extras provided by the host. Also, the host gave us a great introduction to the property and was both friendly and informative. One of the best apartments I've ever stayed in!
Very little to complain about, if anything. My only criticism is that the listing is perhaps underselling itself. I wasn't sure if some parts were shared but it is all yours. The kitchenette turned out to be a full size kitchen too.
The property is the oldest in Ypres and has been standing since world war 1, there is so much character and very spacious and comfortable.
I liked everything about it. It’s not a negative but we were travelling with a small child so we had to use the lift and carry her/ pram down the stairs. However we still had a brilliant stay
Lovely hosts, nothing was too much trouble, quite close to the main Square. Would definitely stay again. Whole building steeped in history and was one of the few houses that was not completely destroyed during the First World War.
No complaints.
Charmant appartement op 5 minuten van de markt. Goed contact met de eigenaar. Een echte aanrader!!!
Fantastic apartment. So much history in the building itself aswell as in the surrounding area. We loved our stay. The apartment is beautiful and located extremely close to everything. The hosts are extremely nice people and made us feel at ease from the moment we met.
There wasn't anything we didn't like.
Apartment was charming and quirky with a traditional Belgian feel. The bathroom shower was great and super clean, and the beds were really cosy with crisp sheets. It was tastefully decorated, and there were a lot of cat ornaments everywhere which have a cultural link to the area. The host was very responsive when we couldn't work the TV and was friendly. He kindly left us a bottle of wine and Belgian chocs. The location is very good, located about 8 minute walk to larger supermarkets like Aldi and Delhaize. And 7 6-7 minute walk from Menin Gate. For cemeteries and most museums you will need a car. Lots of restaurants on your doorstep and smaller convenience supermarkets within 2-3 minutes walk.
It was very dusty, it set off allergies which we don't normally have. Dirty utensils in the drawers with dried food. Internet was strong in the bedroom, but not in the living area, tv didn't work well as result. Bathroom doors don't shut well.
Beautiful flat, good location, easy to find and get to. Very helpful hosts.
Very creaky floorboards as house is old.
Ruim appartement
ligging in centrum.
