Reviewed Mar 8, 2026It was a pleasure returning to Smith House. just like last time, the apartment was immaculately clean and Rory had the personalised welcome sheet with chocolates and local Whanganui tips —making this place feel so special. I finally made use of the Bialetti stovetop espresso maker this visit, and the Havoc ground coffee provided in the fridge was absolutely heavenly. It was also lovely to finally meet Rory in person while he was tending to the garden. Another flawless stay! Needless to say I will be back again.

Bathroom, with plenty space for toilet requirements and a grab rail for toilet, well known toiletries provided. Good lighting throughout, only two units here with secure parking overnight.
Just a tiny bit of road noise I did not hear it, my wife used ear plugs. There is nothing else to tell

Reviewed Jan 21, 2026Smith House is very impressive. It's quite bijou but for a small unit it certainly delivers. We stayed in Toetoe for two nights and it felt brand new, very clean, very comfortable with lovely decor. The bed and bedding was lovely. The kitchen area was supplied with everything needed to self cater. The bathroom was really nice with beautiful products for guests use. There is a little outside seating area for drinks. We never met the owner but Rory made it clear we could get in contact should we need to. We were fortunate enough to be there for the Vintage weekend which was fabulous.

Super comfy bed and love the little outdoor seating area with great views across the river to Bastia Hill. Fantastic shower, and easy parking. little to no road noise. just a short walk to CBD and river walks right on the doorstep. Thank you Rory

We liked the property, but feel that it should be mentioned that it is more of a bedsit under the residence. The big yellow chair is cute, but not very comfortable for sitting and lounging in. Maybe a chaise?

Reviewed Apr 28, 2025Perfect location. Town centre not too far for walking and the river walk almost at the door step. I loved sitting up in the very comfortable bed and looking across the river. Double-glazing was wonderful, both to moderate the temperature and to kill road noise. Curtains well designed to enjoy provacy while enjoying the outlook, but also to block the light for a sleep-in.The host was thoughtful and hospitable, while still non-intrusive.

Good restaurant recommendations - we ate at the Mexican restaurant, which was excellent. Ran the 4.6 km route in the morning, which I loved. Only thing is...the road is a bit noisy!

The chocolates on arrival, plunger coffee and toiletries were lovely extras. The accommodation was quiet, immaculately presented, spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. The bed was comfy, towels were fluffy and the shower was great. Excellent value for money - we would recommend.

Reviewed Feb 6, 2025Now this place is classy! We stayed in Toe Toe, which is one of two apartments on this property and was so comfortable that we thought we could move to Whanganui and live here. Everything worked, was good quality and stylish and definitely value for money. We loved the spacious bathroom, with plenty of hooks and places to put things - yay!! Also appreciated the variable lighting options. Its position is perfect for a walk along the river or a stroll into town. Rory left excellent instructions and was very available if we needed any attention. I hope we get to stay here again sometime.
The traffic could be noisy but once the double-glazed windows were closed at night, there was no problem.

Reviewed Oct 28, 2024Apartment was amazingly clean and bright. The unit was well placed to receive both morning and evening sun. The apartment had quality appliances and was well maintained. The welcome sheet had my name on it along with detailed instructions for apartment appliance and suggestions on what to do in Whanganui. Host had arranged for fresh milk and heavenly smelling Havoc ground coffee in fridge to go with Bialetti coffee stovetop expresso. Near to Somme Parade, one can enjoy invigorating morning sun with a stroll near the river. Shops and cafes are within walkable distance so really no need of taking out car.
