Dark and dingy (the 70,s has a lot to answer for) Useless shower. Took me ages to work the one little heater. Smallest tv I have seen, no charging power plugs near the bed. It wasn’t even cheap

Reviewed Aug 12, 2026Very easy to find, situated right beside the river so it was both convenient and lovely. We were in Whanganui to connect with family at a local restaurant and had no trouble getting directions, which was just a few minutes away, as was the main city wntre.
Nothing, the proprietor couldn’t have been more helpful.

The bed was old and not that comfortable. It was cold, only one heater that didn't throw out enough heat. The fuse kept tripping when you boiled the jug etc.

Reviewed Jun 28, 2026this motel is a unesco heritage site for design - it has all the quirks of a 1960s hot spot! But the mattresses are really comfy and the water is very hot, plus it's quiet and very private
we left a bunch of sweets on the counter and a few ants came to check them out. When we removed them though they just left. the room was a bit cold still upon arrival but the heater was on and in half an hour it was all good.

The room was infested with ants which caused us some concern as we didn't want to bring them home. When I went to discuss this with the proprietor he refused to shake my hand even though I started by saying how much we appreciated the cleanliness and comfort of the unit and was EXTREEMLY RUDE! This caused me to be so upset that we would NEVER RETURN!

Les toilettes étaient séparés de la salle de bain, ce qui est appréciable. Le parking était gratuit et face à la chambre. Mention spéciale à notre petit visiteur félin nocturne, qui donne tout son charme au lieu !
La pièce principale était plutôt sombre, et sentait un peu l'humide. La télévision n'est pas une Tv connectée.

Shower pressure wasn’t great. Bed was a great size but very soft mattress. This is a personal choice so may be ideal for some people.

We couldn't fault a thing - comfortable beds and lounge, quality products in the bathroom. The place was immaculate. Quality magazines and photographic book on New Zealand to flick through was a great touch. No traffic noise. We just stayed one night so didn't get a chance to wander around the neighbourhood.
