Reviewed Sep 18, 2026We had a very nice bedroom with a bathroom and living room attached. Everything was very clean, we slept very well and there was plenty of space for both of us. Our host Uwe was very friendly and we felt very welcome. The breakfast was very good, with different kind of breads, cold cuts, cheese and different homemade jams. There was a very nice, maintained garden. The guesthouse is a very good place to relax. Barrydale was our last stop on our trip. It was the perfect place to spend the final days of our vacation.

The breakfast was good but we were not left to enjoy it in peace. Too much hovering about.
On our arrival our host's greeting was awkward. The rooms are weirdly docorated and the house is a bit of a warren. This place was not my cup of tea.

did not get the room i booked and without discussion.breakfast is very mediocre so much so we left to go elsewhere. and u are expected to sit at a communal table which is not described in the info.

Reviewed Mar 10, 2026Unser Aufenthalt im Sorgvry - House of Guests war etwas ganz Besonderes. Wir kamen als Fremde und gingen als Freunde – vor allem dank des wunderbaren Eigentümers Uwe. Es war uns eine grosse Freude, ihn kennenzulernen und seine Herzlichkeit und Offenheit zu erleben. Man fühlt sich vom ersten Moment an willkommen.
Das Haus selbst ist auf einem sehr hohen Niveau ausgestattet. Die Qualitaet der Einrichtung, die Liebe zum Detail und der Komfort machen den Aufenthalt wirklich besonders.
Ein Ort mit viel Charme, Wärme und Persönlichkeit – absolut empfehlenswert. Wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen und werden dies auch tun :-)

Reviewed Feb 26, 2026Sehr liebevolle und ungewöhnliche Einrichtung, nette und umsorgende Gastgeber, perfektes Frühstück mit leckerem selbstgebackenen Brot, eigener Marmelade und mild geröstetem Kaffee. Uwe gab uns auch einen super Tipp für das Abendessen in einem tollen Restaurant ganz in der Nähe.
Toilette offen im Zimmer, auch als Paar braucht man etwas mehr Abstand. Für eine Nacht okay und machbar.

Reviewed Feb 14, 2026Der Besitzer ist sehr nett und hat sich sehr um uns bemüht. Die Zimmer sind ausgefallen eingerichtet (Afrikazimmer, usw.), aber sehr schön. Das Frühstück war sehr gut.
Barrydale ist ein kleiner Ort, in dem sich vieles nur mit dem Auto erreichen lässt. Sind aber kurze Strecken.

Reviewed Dec 26, 2025Uwe is a most charming host who is very attentive yp his guests. His personality is reminiscent of Luminére in the animated movie, Beauty and the Beast. Dapper and accommodating. We arrived at the same time as another couple and felt cared for and welcomed with equal attention. The Africa Room is beautiful and wonderfully decorated. Every comfort is catered to. My favorite moment was discovering that because we arrived days before Christmas, the house was beautifully decorated as though we were being hosted by family over the festive period. Simply stunning.
Nothing fell short of perfect at Sorgvry. You arrive and your every need is catered to... with a smile and grace.

Location absolutely perfect. Quiet accessible spot for walking from town centre/ Hotel. Located in beautiful garden.
We would have preferred a room with a door onto an outdoor area - felt a bit closed in. Would ask for one of those next time. Also found the screen between the bedroom and toilet area to be beautiful but a bit flimsy .. A door would be good!

We stayed in the Asian room, which is top class ! A delightful and knowledgeable host who made us feel at home in a wonderful establishment.

The house and bedrooms are gorgeous; the gardens so very beautiful; Uve is a warm and superb host; the breakfast is wonderful and the Guesthouse offers peace and beauty. Breakfast or sitting out on the stoep with all its spectacular pot plants is so very lovely. I will try to
go back just to enjoy the Guesthouse!

We are not great fans of open toilets and bathroom facilities. The room we had was beautiful and the bathroom fittings were top quality but there was no where to put bags etc and the open bathroom made the room feel a little squashed.

Reviewed Aug 17, 2025We were blown away. Uwe is an amazing host. On arrival we were spoilt with fabulous coffee and apple cake. Everything is done so tastefully. He welcomed us into his beautiful home and treated us like family without overstepping the boundaries. The recommendations for visits into Barrydale were spot on; and breakfast was AMAZING. What a gentleman.
Wish we had time to stay longer. The beautiful garden and sun stoep beckoned, but we had to move on to our next appointment. Uwe is a real delight.

Its clean and Uwe thought of everything to make your stay special. We were warmly welcomed , and had a extraordinary dinner.You will find many wonderful guesthouses but there is only one special host and thats Uwe. Thank you for sharing not only your home, but also amazing scrumptuous food, and your warm heart and special friends with us. It was a once in a lifetime experience and we will defnitely visit again.

Reviewed Feb 7, 2025The house is beautiful and uniquely decorated. The room was spacious and comfortable, it was like a home from home. There is a lovely terrace looking out on to well kept gardens, this is where Uwe serves a fabulous breakfast. It’s very peaceful. You have the full run of the house with places to sit and relax. There is a well stocked honesty bar. The location is great, very close to the town. Uwe is very attentive and a mine of information on what to do while you are there.

Reviewed Jan 6, 2025Great Host, rooms and Bfast. Is well positioned for walking into town and is a very comfortable home with an excellent honesty bar. Uwe the host offers to do dinners but I unfortunately missed the email as I would otherwise have enjoyed this. BFast is excellent.
Mark would have liked a hot cooked breakfast ….. there was no choice only room temperature scrambled eggs ….. my granola and fruit and yoghurt was good
