Chill House safari resort

My stay with Hashan was incredible. He turned out not only to be a first class host, but I also ended up going on the safari with him and it was an absolute highlight of my trip. He went above and beyond to make the safari an unforgettable experience. His knowledge went very far and he loved sharing all he knew with every different animal we came across. What really stood out to me was how respectful he was towards the animals, giving them space and leaving it up to them if they wished to approach us. We noticed other tour guides chasing elephants or barricading their way while they were trying to get to the water on the other side. So for those looking for an ethical safari guide: Hashan is your man. He's also funny and entertaining, and he organised a delicious picnic at a beautiful view, which was a nice extra. Highly recommended!

I felt in love with the little puppy. (:

Lots of mold and insects, bad smell, the casings of the bed had been clean, but not the pillows and mattress itself. Only very small sheets to cover up. In fact I didn’t wanna sleep in this bed or use any of the pillows or sheets. The AC won’t stay on. Loose cables in the shower (dangerous). The shower jet is directed towards the toilet so that it was difficult to stand underneath and the toilet and toilet paper got completely wet.

Firstly I would like to thank Hashan and his wife for being warm kind, and fantastic hosts. Good clean comfortable rooms with hot shower, and great breakfast provided Good location. Hashan took us to see the flying fox at dusk, and arranged for his safari the following morning. Would highly recommend his safari, for which he is so passionate and knowledgeable…you are guaranteed to have a great time, and see the elephants. Hashan, you are a great character..keep doing what you do! Would absolutely recommend, and would come back again.

Einfache, saubere, aber für eine Nacht vollkommen ausreichende Zimmer mit Moskitonetz und AC. Hashan, der Besitzer war gleichzeitig ein toller Safariguide, der sich durch seine langjährige Erfahrung sehr gut auskannte und viel Interessantes zu berichten hatte. Vielen Dank dafür! Während der Safari wurden wir mit leckerem Essen versorgt. Der Nachbar hat ein sehr nettes Restaurant fürs Dinner.

Super safari

Остановились здесь на одну ночь, чтобы съездить на сафари. Понравилась атмосфера, место очень спокойное, ощущаешь единение с природой. Неподалеку есть кафе со вкусной едой. Само жилье простое, не роскошное, но уютное. Завтрак был большой и вкусный) хозяин заказал для нас трансфер в Эллу, это была комфортная чистая машина и приятный водитель, который останавливался, когда мы видели слонов у дороги и у водопада Равана, мы под впечатлением)

Не было розетки возле кровати, и с водонагревателем не получилось разобраться, пришлось мыться в прохладной воде, но за такую цену это мелочи)

Wir hatten eine wunderschöne Zeit im Mid Scenery Home Stay. Wir waren leider nur 2 Nächte dort. Das Zimmer ist einfach eingerichtet und hat alles, was man braucht. Die Terrasse ist toll mit sensationeller Aussicht. Man fühlt sich wie im Dschungel. Die Affen begrüßen dich am Morgen und sagen dir gute Nacht am Abend. Eresha ist die beste Köchin die wir in Sri Lanka hatten . Sie ist sooo freundlich und zuvorkommend. Sie hat ein tolles Frühstück gemacht und ein noch besseres Abendessen gezaubert. Vielen lieben Dank Eresha und wir wünschen dir und deiner Familie alles alles Gute!

Le personnel adorable ! Je suis venue en bus publique, Hashan est venu me chercher à l’arrêt de bus pour que je ne doive pas prendre un tuktuk. Hashan est guide pour le safari ! Il a sa propre jeep. C’est un conducteur hors pair ! Il fait en sorte que vous voyiez un maximum de chose même quand les animaux se cachent et ne suit pas forcément les autres jeep (sauf s’il y a quelques choses à voir). Il connaît plein de choses, il fait les safari depuis 13 ans, il pourra répondre à la plupart de vos questions ! J’ai payé 24000 Roupies pour 7h dans le parc (en sachant que l’entrée du parc à 13500 roupies et le lunch est inclu dedans) , c’est donc à mon sens un prix très correct :)

Perfect location for a safari of Uda walawe and Hashan's safari is exceptional. He has been a guide for 14 years and seems to really know the park and be able to anticipate how the animals will behave and where they will be. I was here in mid-Feb and saw elephants all over including babies and a group having a swim, crocodiles, deer, monkeys and many birds including hawks, peacocks, kingfishers and more! He speaks excellent English and answered all my questions, also arranging for a tuktuk ride to see the 'Flying Fox' bats at dusk. His wife prepared a lovely spread of snacks for the day and a great breakfast the day I left. The room was very comfortable, has AC, a hot shower and mosquito net. I was a female solo traveller and felt very safe at all times.

Only things I would change is to put a lock on the main door, and a reading light by the bed. The mosquito net could be a little bigger as it was tight round the bed but I actually didnt really need it anyway as kept the doors and windows closed.

The host was just perfect, Hashan was amazing Safari guide and his wife prepared the best food. We felt like home and look forward to staying here again.

Die Gastgeberfamilie war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Die private Safaritour mit Hashan war ein tolles Erlebnis. Er kennt den Park wie seine Westentasche und hat sich extrem Mühe gegeben uns die Tiere zu zeigen und er weiss sehr viel über die Tiere zu erzählen. Seine Frau hat uns ein leckeres Picknick für die Safari und ein sehr gutes Frühstück zubereitet. Die Kinder liebten die selbstgemachten Pancakes.

Das Badezimmer ist sehr einfach und die WC-Spülung ist etwas laut. Das Bett war hart, für 1-2 Nächte ist es aber ok und für den Preis pro Nacht absolut in Ordnung.

The owner, Hashan, is the best. He offered us a fantastic and unforgettable journey through the National Park. He was very respectful of the animals and took us to less frequented areas of the park - so that we could enjoy calmer time in nature. I do believe he offers a very special tour - I would always go with him again! The accomodation is simple, yes, but you are there also only for the night and that works perfectly for the pricing. We had a good night sleep.

Mir hat einfach alles gefallen. Der Besitzer „Hashan“ gehört zu den herzlichsten Menschen die ich bisher in meinem Leben kennenlernen durfte. Ich kam krank an und hatte zuvor nichts geplant. Wir trafen Hashan zufällig und er nahm uns mit zu seinem Hotel. Preis-Leistung 10/10, Unterkunft 10/10, Hashan 20/10. Uns wurde gratis unsere Wäsche gewaschen, wir durften die private Küche mitbenutzen. Hashan fuhr uns wann wir es benötigten gratis in die Stadt um einzukaufen. Während dem ich starke Grippe hatte kümmerte er sich zudem um mich. WICHTIG! Geniale Safari, war ein richtiger Turning Point unserer Reise! Wir trafen in der Unterkunft auch einen us-amerikanischen Forscher, der uns mit seinem fachlichen Hintergrund erklärte warum Hashan mitunter die besten Safaris anbietet. Auch während der Safari merkten wir den Unterschied zu anderen Jeep-Safaris. Hashan arbeitet keine Touristen ab, er verbringt und genießt Zeit mit Menschen auf Augenhöhe. Liebe Grüße von Johannes

Mir fällt nicht eine winzige Kleinigkeit ein.

Hashan ist ein sehr guter Safari Guide. Besonderes Interesse hat er an Vögel. Er weiß zu allen Tieren viele Details und hat einen eigenen Safari-Pickup. Er kann sehr viel über Land und Leute berichten und spricht sehr gutes Englisch. Seine Frau hat uns wundervolles Frühstück serviert und auch sehr gutes Rice and Curry gemacht. Er hatte sogar Bier für uns, was in den anderen HomeStays unserer Reise nicht gab. Es war der perfekte Start für unsere Reise durch Sri Lanka. Hashan hat uns einen sehr guten Überblick und Einblick gegeben. Die Zimmer sind einfach und sehr sauber mit AC. Es war das beste HomeStay unserer ganzen Reise! Nebenan gibt es ein sehr gutes Lokal (Garlic) und auch ein Spaziergang in den Ort ist machbar, auch wenn es sehr heiß war. Ansonsten einfach ein TukTuk nehmen.

Die Unterkunft ist super. Sehr symphatische Gastgeber, alles sehr sauber, gross, Klimaanlage, tolles Frühstück. Aber das absolute Highlight war die Safari mit Hashan (Gastgeber) in den Udawalawa Nationalpark. Er kennt sich bestens aus, ist lustig, sieht viele Tiere und hat uns wirklich einen unglaublich schönen Tag geboten. Auch sonst hat er uns jegliche Wünsche erfüllt und Ideen gehabt (Ayurveda Massage in der Nähe, Auffangstation für verwaiste Elephanten Babies,...). Wir können es zu 120% empfehlen!

The property was the perfect place to stay when visiting Udawalawe National Park. Everything was easily organised by Hashan and he was super accommodating and a friendly person. Hashan provided recommendations for other things to do in the area and drove us in his tuk tuk to the shops and ATM when needed. The room was huge with a great bathroom and balcony. Breakfast was more than enough and full of fresh Sri Lankan ingredients.

The WiFi didn’t work the best in the room but was fine in communal areas - but WiFi is not important in such a beautiful part of the world. :)

We were very lucky to stay at Hashan's and his family's hotel. A cozy hotel, a very hospitable family. His wife cooked a very delicious dinner, even baked a super birthday cake! We also had a few days Kandy/Ella/Sigiriya tour and safary with Hashan and it was really a great and unfogettable experience. He knows a lot about his country, has a perfect sense of humour, also he is a very helpful and kind person. Highly recommend the hotel to stay, also Hashan as a perfect guide!

Our family was lucky to book safari with Chill House Safari Resort owner Hashan, that was the best experience we could expect! He knew exactly where to find different species and made sure we got incredible sightings. Every question we had about the animals, he answered with enthusiasm and expertise. Beyond his skills, he was incredibly attentive and caring, always making sure we were comfortable and having a great time. Great value for money. We are a fanily of 5 with 3 children and we hat a perfect stay the hotel met all our needs. Hashan has to be the best safari tour guide in the area. The park can be crowded, but he managed to get us out of the traffic jams and most of the time we were alone in the park. We were supposed to be finnished at 1330 but he wanted to give us a Even better experience, so he continued until 17.

Apartment located in beautiful surrounding. Hashan helped us to arrange taxi driver, massage. He also was our guide and driver on Safari. Comfortable place to stay, everything as in description. Extremely helpful and kind owners. Delicious breakfast and dinner. Really easy and quick communication with the owner. We really recommend to stay at this house and also take trip to safari :)

we stayed at the Chill House for two nights to do the safari and we can highly recommend it. not only that the rooms are really nice and clean, but also Hashan is a really nice guy and welcomed us in the best way he could. he helped us where ever he could. We did also the safari with him and that also was the best experience we could get. you can really tell that he is doing his safaris with passion.

It was our best experience on our whole SriLanka-Trip! Hashan an his family are so nice people, super friendly and very welcoming. We even met hashans friends (which are by the way running an amazing restaurant next door...ask for the black curry if you are not afraid for spicy;)) and his family. Hashans wife amazed us with some delicious rice-and-curry-dinner. Hashan is the best safari guide, nothing goes past his eagle-eyes. And he knows everything about the Udawalawa-NP. We highly can recommend a Chill-house-Experience and we will be back soon for sure!

Hashan and his family were amazing! They arranged a taxi for us from Dickwella to their resort. Our room was so clean and comfortable, especially the bed, we were so relaxed there. We went to the safari with Hashan as our driver, which was a great day for a really good price. You can tell that he cares about the animals which was very important to us. His wife had made a delicious and very filling breakfast for us. All in all they are very accommodating and can recommend it for everyone!

We came for two nights and had a wonderfull stay at the Chill House. Hashan is not only the manager, hes also a very experienced tour guide. We did a unforgettable halfday safari in the National Park and can highly recomend to do this tour whit him! Even beside the tour he was very kind and helpful arround our stay.

Lovely welcoming family, wonderful hosts, great food, very reasonably priced. Fantastic elephant safari. Located in lovely spot, very close to nature in the jungle. Highly recommend!!

Would benefit from mosquito net in bedroom.

We stayed at Chill House Safari resort and also did the safari with our host, Hashan. Our room and bathroom were clean and equipped with everything we needed. The location was peaceful and surrounded by trees and wildlife while still close by the main road. We decided to have one meal at the accommodation and Hashan went out to find all the specific ingredients to make polos, which we really wanted to try. It was delicious!😋His wife and son were also very nice and always around. Our safari tour with the family went great too! It’s totally worth it. We saw quite a lot of elephants and many other animals in the park. Hashan really knows his way around well and is great at spotting anyone hiding in the bushes or trees. He also answered all of our questions about the different species. Overall, we recommend the whole experience offered at Chill House Safari Resort!❣️

Excellent Sri Lankan hospitality! The owner Hashan and his family provided an incredible experience staying in Udawalawe. Would recommend this place particularly if you are a solo backpacker! 😎🙏 p.s his wife makes the most amazing cake bowls 🤤

The localization is good, you can book a safari from the owner, the rooms were clean and quiet.

Hashan and his family are so friendly and lovely. He organized the Safari with care. There were almost no other Jeeps around and we could watch so many elephants.

The property is in a beautiful area surrounded by nature. Hashan and his family are absolutely amazing, they made us feel very welcome, sorted everything we needed, and made sure our stay was perfect. We had a huge breakfast both mornings and Sri Lankan curry & rice for dinner which were both delicious, thanks to Hashan’s wife! We did an afternoon safari with Hashan and it was everything we hoped for and more. We cannot recommend this family-run hotel more!

The WiFi is a little bit intermittent but it really doesn’t matter in a place so beautiful :)

I liked everything! This family it's absolutely beautiful: Hashan, Nilu et their son are adorable. Me and my new friend Anne did a Safari with Hashan and we had a chance to see lots of elephants 🐘 and monkey and also a crocodile 🐊 he knows very well Udawalawe! Also, Nilu she cooks extremely well and I had the first Kottu Roti of my life and it was just delicious, breakfast as well! Thank you and I hope, one day, to see you soon! Big hurt for all of you! There wasn't anything that I didn't like.

Staff were very accommodating and room was very comfy. Shower was also great. Outside our room was a balcony overlooking an amazing view of Ella Rock. We had to drop our bags off for a few hours after check out time and staff helped us and even offered us tea and coffee. Centre of Ella was only a 15-20 minute walk away.

Wow, everything! I had to book last minute and they were so accommodating, even with the electricity out for the day. You need to stay here for your visit to Udawalawe!! They have their own safari car and do very good rates for the safari, while the guide is very knowledgable and fun to have guiding around the park! The rooms are amazing for the price and the staff are the best I have had since traveling here!

Absolutely nothing

We had a fantastic stay at Chill House Safari Resort. The room was spacious, beautiful and had everything we needed. A/C and Wifi worked really well. The best part about our stay was Hashan and his family, they are so lovely and did everything to make us feel comfortable. They also cooked dinner for us which was very delicious. We did the Safari with Hashan as well and it was the best experience. He is the best guide. He gave us lots of information about the animals and the park during the Safari. He has been a guide for a lot of time now and you can truly notice. He knows many good spots in the park so we were alone for almost the whole Safari and he is able to spot literally every animal, no matter how small. We saw so many different animals! He also organised for us to have breakfast in a small hut in the park which was so cool. So if you want to stay at Udawalawe and do a Safari, we can not reccomend this place enough!

I definitely recommend this place, amazing host, beautiful place. We went on 6h safari and it was undoubtedly a highlight of my entire stay in Sri Lanka. I really wish to be back sooner or later!

Hashan and his family are amazing! The place is brand new and very comfortable! You can't beat that price ! I also had dinner there, his wife is a wonderful cook! The room was lovely & spacious, with large windows that let lots of light in and the surrounding greenery. Hashan & his family were absolutely lovely, his wife made us some DELICIOUS food and Hashan goes above and beyond for his guests. He took us on an amazing safari at Udawalawe, making sure to find spaces away from all the other jeeps & lots of peaceful time observing the gentle giants and wildlife there. We drove to the park during sunrise & even had breakfast in the jungle. He really made our experience something special, we would go back here in a heartbeat. Hashan even took us for a swim in a nearby river. Couldn’t recommend more!

Hashan is a super friendly and helpful host, his home is beautiful and is situated close to the safari and has a restaurant next to it. Hashan took us on a morning safari and we had an amazing time, he ensured we weren’t around lots of jeeps and had a very intimate experience. He was very knowledgable and spoke great English. The rooms were lovely and clean, highly recommend to stay here for a safari experience!

Room was large, very comfortable, in quiet scenic area. Breakfast the first morning was sparse and I was disappointed in not having local food. I asked for a more substantial breakfast the next morning as I would be traveling to the airport before a night flight. I was shocked when I saw the HUGE local style breakfast the next morning. Host was very nice and provided a half-day safari in the park, where I saw many elephants as well as other wildlife. Host spoke good English and was able to provide information about elephants and other wildlife which I did not get during my Yala safari. I walked 1 minute from the hotel to The Garlic for good local evening meals. I originally booked another place in the area, but changed to here when the first place did not respond to my inquiry regarding a safari.

My partner and I have had an exceptional stay at Chill House. We were looked after a lot by the family that run it. The owner took us on private safari tour of Udawalawe NP for a very reasonable price. He’s been doing tours for 11 years and was very knowledgeable. The stay is a great value for money.

The host is an amazing person and will help you with everything you need. Air conditioning works good, the bed is comfortable. Take the safari with them, the guide is prepared and can drive around the park with no limitations! Also try the restaurant nearby, excellent quality!

WiFi was not stable, but you go to this area to stay out all day, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

The best stay during our trip in Sri Lanka so far. Hashan and his family amazed us with their hospitality, they are extremely kind people, help us with everything we needed. We did the safari and we were extremely lucky to have Hashan as our guide we were everywhere first or among the first and had the best spots, saw lots of elephants families right next to our jeep. The food was delicious accommodation great as well. We recommend everywhere 😊🙏.

Amazing room, offered a Udawalawe nationalpark safari tour - I was the only one to go. was allowed to drive the safari truck for a while, my favorite memory!

food is very delicious and bed is very comfortable to sleep.The staff were very kindness. They treated us very well.we went safari to see elephants in udawalawe national park.it was very adventurous tour in my life.because we could go near to elephants.

Very nice please and extremely friendly hosts. We did a 4 hours safari with Hashan as well as had dinner and breakfast. The food was delicious and plentiful! The room has aircon, warm water and the house itself is located in a quiet street. We would stay again!

The accommodation is clean and has everything needed. Hashan is a lovely host and a great guide for his amazing Safari tour! He has a great knowledge about the animals and uses roads that are not crowded.

I did like the bed which was comfy and with nice sheets..for the money we payed it was luxury with AC and hot shower

Dumpness every where

The place is absolute beautiful so are the room with AC and warm showers the host was super helpfull and so friendly. He recommended that we eat at Garlic House where the fried rice was the best I ever eat. Bed sheets where crispy and nice

The place has a lot of dampness and smells a bit wet I did put AC long before I went to sleep which helped .the host told me that they are ready to paint the whole house which will make it into a super place
