Uriger gemütlicher Garten. Tolle neue Zimmer. Super Frühstück. Einen Katzensprung zum Meer und zur Panama Road. Bille ist super sympathisch und ist immer für die Gäste da. Wir sind mit ihm zum Markt und haben abends zusammen Barbecue gemacht. Er hat uns auch frühmorgens die Lagoon Safari klargemacht. Bille ist eine sehr inspirierende Persönlichkeit und wir hoffen, dass seine Manifestationen wahr werden 😉😊😉. All the best Broski!!!

Bille und sein Team haben sich so gut um uns gekümmert! Bille hat uns unterstützt bei den Dingen, die wir gerne unternehmen wollten und hat immer dafür gesorgt, dass wir eine schöne Zeit haben! Das Hotel ist richtig schön und man merkt, dass viel Liebe drin steckt! Das Frühstück war sehr lecker.

Das Personal war sehr freundlich und die Lage war gut. Es sind nur ein paar Meter bis zum Strand und es werden viele Aktivitäten angeboten.

Die Lage und das Frühstück war toll. Der Besitzer ist etwas verrückt aber sehr nett.

Im Bad roch es nach Urin und Abwasser. Allgemein sah das Bad etwas heruntergekommen aus.

Het lijkt wel een gevangenis. Pure misleiding om alleen deluxe en royal deluxe kamers te verkopen. Terwijl de Deluxe kamer op een kamer uit een hostel lijkt

Fantastic location 2 minutes walk from beach. Nice spacious rooms with ac. Lovely breakfasts. Hammocks. Lots of shade in eating area and a natural outdoor shower for after beach.

The fact we couldn’t stay there longer!!

Near to the beach in’s most likely one of the best European standard Hotels in Arugam bay-where a lot of overpriced average hotels/home stays offers with too high prices are available in the high season. Billie, the owner, makes the difference with a superb breakfast range which surprised us daily!

There are just minor things.. nothing to complain, as everything is well maintained and clean and as said - European standard. Not new, but by far one of the best options in the Bay.

Wir hatten wunderschöne Tage im Hakuna Matata bei Billy. Die Lage ist perfekt, um am Main Point zu surfen, das Meer zu genießen oder einen Ausflug zum Elephant Rock zu machen. Auch eigene Schmuck konnten wir dort herstellen. Besonders hervorzuheben ist die familiäre Atmosphäre und die tollen Safaris die Billy anbietet. Wir haben viele tolle Eindrücke von der Natur bekommen und unglaublich viele Tiere gesehen. Alles Dank Billys Einsatz umd Passion für die Tier- und Vogelwelt. Wir würden jederzeit wieder kommen.

Hakuna Matata es sin duda mas que un hotel para pasar unas noches. Billy y los chicos son la esencia del lugar, siempre dispuestos, amables y con una sonrisa. Nuestra experiencia ha sido increible y Hakuna Matata ha superado nuestras expectativas. Gracias a Billy hemos conocido el mercado local, nos ha llevado de safari a la laguna, nos ha facilitado contactos, sitios, lugares... Nos vamos realmente felices de haber elegido Hakuna Matata y de haber conocido a las personas que están detras. Sin duda recomendable tanto para viajar en solitario, pareja o grupo.¡ Repetiriamos seguro!

Nette kleine Anlage in unmittelbarer Strandnähe. Der Garten ist mit Liebe gestaltet, alles nicht so anonym sondern sehr persönlich. Der Gastgeber Billie kümmert sich wirklich um alles, hat mit uns und den anderen Gästen ein gemeinsames Barbecue gemacht und mit uns am Vormittag alles zusammen auf dem örtlichen Markt eingekauft. Zusätzlich kann man mit Billie regelmäßig in die Lagune oder auf "Scooter-Safari". Hab ich so echt noch nie erlebt. Die Zimmer sind klein, aber sauber. Das Frühstück ist auch gut.

Beim Kaffee gibt's noch Luft nach oben, Billie ;-)

- Nous avions envoyé des messages quelques jours avant notre arrivée pour effectuer le scooter safari (ce qui était clairement un élément différentiant dans notre choix). Néanmoins, on nous a jamais répondu et une fois sur place on nous a dit qu’on le ferait le lendemain mais finalement d’autres activités étaient prévues à la place, soit disant car d’autres chambres avaient demandées d’autres activités - Personnel peu souriant et comprenant mal l’anglais

Billie er en super sød mand som gerne vil det allerbedste for sine gæster. To fra familien var med på scootersafari - det var en god oplevelse. Vi boede på forskellige værelser (familie på fem) og superior værelserne var fine. Ligger meget tæt på fineste strand hvis man vil bade.

Det er meget dyrt ift. hvad du får - særligt 3 personers værelse og dobbelt rum er meget basic og meget lydt. Ingen varmt vand og svært at holde myggene ude da de kommer ind i badeværelset.

Heerlijke relaxte accommodatie waarbij de eigenaar Billy alles tot een top verblijf maakt! Geweldig ontbijt, veel variatie. Billy en zijn “boys” helpen je met alles, wij hebben tot in de late uurtjes gezellige gesprekken gevoerd en zijn samen met Billy op Jeep Safari geweest. Wat een ervaring met onze eigen gids! Deze accommodatie is echt een pareltje in Sri Lanka!!

Le point positif est la balade en scooter pour aller explorer les bords de route et découvrir la faune et la flore de la région. Le guide est inclus avec l’hôtel mais les scooter sont à louer.

Honnêtement très déçu par cet hôtel. Le rapport qualité prix est désastreux. Chambre bas de gamme (literie très mauvaise, matelas à ressort, Clim fonctionne mais ne donne quasi pas de froid, robinet non vissé, douche sans eau chaud, pas de ménage le matin). La salle de bain est équivalent à une guest house très rudimentaire. Aucune isolation, on entend la vie extérieur comme si les fenêtres étaient ouvertes (chiens, mosquées,…). À 5h il fait jour dans la chambre car pas de rideau opaque. On dirait que tout a été choisi au rabais pour créer cette chambre. Ce commentaire est très détaillé et factuel car nous avait beaucoup voyagé en Asie et n’avons jamais payé aussi chère pour un résultat aussi décevant.

Genuinely cant rate hakuna matata highly enough, billie and the broskis were an absolute joy to spend time with and treated us like family from the moment we arrived. Billies passion for nature and care for his guests is second to none in sri lanka, our stay at hakuna turned a memorable trip into an unforgettable one! We will be back!

Muy buena ubicacion, al lado de la calle principal y a dos pasos de la playa. AC y ventilador en la habitación. El baño muy cómodo y moderno. Las habitaciones tienen terraza donde colgar la ropa mojada y una mesa con sillas para descansar después de una jornada de surf🙂 pero lo mejor es el propietario, Billie. Una persona maravillosa e interesante. Imprescindible hacer con Billie el safari en moto, experiencia increible.

В отеле очень интересные номера, а на территории просто невероятно чудесный сад, видно, что всё сделано с душой, и владелец Билли заботится об этом месте Мы приехали в Аругамбей ради поездки на сафари в парк Кумана, Билли организовал нам эту прекрасную поездку, поехал с нами, и был для нас гидом, рассказывал про всех животных, которых мы встречали Мы встретили много разных животных, в том числе леопарда😍 Ребята делали всё возможное, чтобы мы его увидели, это было очень приятно! На завтрак нам подавали панкейки и фреши с маракуйей, сорванной в саду, было невероятно вкусно Очень советуем!😊

Die Unterkunft hat einen idyllischen Garten, in dem jeden Morgen ein leckeres Frühstück serviert wird, was Billies Mutter frisch zubereitet. Unser Zimmer war riesig, neu und sauber, bequemes Bett, Wasserkocher vorhanden. Wir waren in der Nebensaison da und Billie hatte viel Zeit für uns. Wir haben mit ihm eine Tour in den kumana Nationalpark und eine Scooter Safari gemacht, beide waren tolle Erlebnisse mit einem exzellenten Guide, danke Billie!

Beautiful clean accommodation in new apartments. Air conditioning, refrigerator, equipped with shelves for clothes, comfortable beds, beautiful garden, where the owners served us an excellent breakfast. The accommodation is located near the ocean, where there are waves and the ocean has a sandy bottom and is clean. Great satisfaction with everything, I recommend. Krásné čisté ubytování v nových apartmánech. Klimatizace, lednice, vybavené policemi na oblečení, pohodlné postele, překrásná zahrada, kde nám majitelé podávali vynikající snídaně. Ubytování se nachází blízko oceánu, ve kterém jsou vlny a oceán má písečné dno a je čistý. Velká spokojenost se vším, doporučuji.

Es war die beste Unterkunft in Sri Lanka. Billi, der Besitzer ist einfach grandios. Es ist alles neu gebaut, die Zimmer wunderschön, riesen Bad und Bett, der Garten liebevollst gestaltet. Das Frühstück sehr lecker, zum Strand ein paar Meter. Billi macht gemeinsame Safari-Touren, Lagunen-Bootstouren und Grillabende wo alle mitkochen, einfach genial. Er hat die Gabe, alle Gäste ganz unkompliziert zusammenzubringen.

-de energie en gastvrijheid van de eigenaar - het cafe tegenover het hostel (heerlijke sappen en ontbijt) - taart gekregen vanwege verjaardag zoon!

- ontbijt basic (boterham met pindakaas en banaan) - kamers waren basic ( tweede nacht kregen we voor 1 van de kamers een upgrade en dan klopt de prijs-kwaliteit wel) - erg op elkaar (kleine tuin); weinig space - je kan niet surfen op de plek waar het hotel ligt (moet je eerst met een tuktuk een half uur verderop)

Absolutely outstanding! From the moment I arrived everything exceeded my expectations. The place is beautiful, clean and perfectly located, but what truly makes it special is the people. Billie is simply the best — so dedicated to making sure every guest has an unforgettable stay. From recommending hidden gems around Arugam Bay to organizing barbecues, safaris or anything I asked for, nothing was ever too much trouble. His kindness and warmth made me feel completely at home in just a few days. I’ve stayed in many places, but rarely have I experienced such genuine hospitality. Without a doubt I’d come back here again — highly recommended to anyone visiting Arugam Bay!

Super fijne accommodatie, leuke gastheer. Hij gaf duidelijk aan dat er nog een aantal dingen in de kamer miste, omdat het net nieuw was. Heel begrijpelijk en netjes dat hij dit toelicht. Daarnaast een Lagoon Safari gedaan vanuit het hotel, dit was super leuk.

Very nice owner who organized interesting activities (lagoon and scooter safari, BBQ) and helped with any questions we had. Whatever the room lacks is compensated for by the kind and helpful owner who goes the extra mile for his guests. Much appreciated Billie!

The rooms are not new and rather small but ok for a couple with a child. The bathroom is rather basic and for the price one could expect a bit more.

Prijs-kwaliteit slecht. We zijn op veel plekken verbleven in Sri Lanka, dus veel vergelijkingsmateriaal. - Geen warm water in de douche (bij goedkopere hotels heb je dit wel), je doucht zowat op de wc en heel de badkamer loopt vol water - Geen laken om onder te slapen (alleen een synthetisch dekentje) - Geen gordijn oid voor de voordeur (van glas) dus je kan zo naar binnen kijken (en het is erg licht in de kamer) - Op het ontbijt moet je een uur wachten - Geen nachtkastjes, geen kledinghangers/kast dus je kunt nergens je kleding ophangen of wegleggen behalve in je koffer/backpack - De kamer werd niet een keer schoon gemaakt tijdens ons verblijf of handdoeken vervangen Voor dit geld (3x de normale prijs in Arugam Bay) zou je meer mogen verwachten.

Super séjour au Hakuna Matata à Arugam Bay ! L’emplacement est vraiment top, à deux pas de la plage et du cœur de l’ambiance d’Arugam Bay. Billie et son personnel sont incroyables : toujours souriants, serviables et hyper sympas. Mention spéciale pour Billie, qui déborde de gentillesse et organise plein d’activités pour rendre le séjour encore plus agréable. Un endroit parfait pour profiter de l’esprit cool et détendu d’Arugam Bay.

The location was perfect, few steps from the beach as well as from the restaurants and cafes. What we absolutely loved was Billy - the owner! He went above and beyond with the customer care - the trips he organized for us were the best out of our whole trip accross Sri Lanka. The breakfast was simple but super tasty. Every day something different.

The older rooms are a bit shabby, do not expect a luxury. The new ones were much better. Bring your own soap.

Stanza piccola per tre, non ci sono armadi nella stanza.

Posizione comoda, molto vicina alla spiaggia e al centro con ristoranti/negozi. Colazione buona.

Pulizia inesistente: camera e bagno sporchi, servizi igienici non puliti e grande ragno presente sulla finestra. Puzza di muffa persistente. Zanzariera sopra il letto inutilizzabile per via della puzza e dello sporco. Zanzare ovunque che entravano da una fessura della camera. É stata la camera che abbiamo pagato di piú nel nostro soggiorno in Sri Lanka e quella in cui ci siamo trovati peggio. Al momento del pagamento il titolare ha anche provato a incassare piú del dovuto. Probabilmente si é trattato di un semplice errore di calcolo suo peró ho dovuto contargli tre volte I soldi davanti prima che capisse che erano giusti. Concludiamo dicendo che noi abbiamo alloggiato nelle camera vecchie, probabilmente quelle nuove sono differenti e meglio tenute (?). Non siamo soliti fare recensioni negative perche' é Brutto svalutare il Lavoro degli Altri ma in Questo Caso abbiamo ritenuto doveroso condividere la nostra esperienza per evitare che qualcuno si possa trovare male come ci siamo trovati noi.

The location next to the beach

The room was very cramped and small. Not 4 star.Large ants on bed . Mosquito net had holes. no hand soap or hot water.No bathmat . Bathroom was rustic and looked like primitive . No mini bar . No glass for water or toothbrush . No bar for evening drink. Breakfast was humus and veg and roti. Who is Billie ? Mentioned in other reviews?

Such a chilled place. You can be in the sea a minute after getting up and out. Then back for a shower and great breakfast. Billie is an amazing host. He took us and some other guests on a local safari where we saw a lot of crocs and loads of local birds. Super helpful. Top marks!

Billy und sein Team sind super coole, herzliche Menschen, die einem sofort ein Gefühl von Zuhause vermitteln. Sie spiegeln den entspannten, fröhlichen Vibe der Stadt wieder und erfüllen einem jeden Extrawunsch. Die Lagoon-Safari war ein tolles Erlebnis, bei dem wir viel über die umliegende Natur und Tiere gelernt haben.

Billie hat uns sehr herzlich empfangen und organisierte für uns auch einige Aktivitäten. Die Lage war super und auch das Frühstück sehr vielfältig.

Vom Zimmer waren wir leider sehr enttäuscht. Es war klein, es gab nur kaltes Wasser und war für den hohen Preis nicht gerechtfertigt.

Rip off

The accommodation is in an excellent location – close to all amenities, restaurants, and the beach, making it perfect for exploring Arugam Bay. The apartment welcomed us clean and tidy, and the garden within the property is a lovely little green oasis for relaxation. Breakfast was quite good, with the freshly squeezed juices being a particular highlight.

The Wi-Fi connection wasn’t great in the evenings, when more guests were using the internet. Also, for the price, we feel the apartment could be better equipped with small essentials such as a hairdryer, a bedside table, cups or glasses, face towels…details that would have made our stay more comfortable.

Great location! Off the main road in Arugam Bay (so it’s quieter than other places I stayed on the main road) and few steps from the ocean. Owner Billie is great and really makes sure you’re taken care of. Helps to organize activities. Rest of the staff is so nice. Every morning they make a delicious fresh breakfast. Can’t wait to be back.

Abbiamo avuto la fortuna di alloggiare nelle nuove stanze appena inaugurate che sono molto spaziose e luminose. La posizione perfetta perché vicina sia alla via principale, sia alla spiaggia. Colazione diversa ogni mattina e sempre super gustosa. Lo staff intero e soprattutto l’host Billy sono stati fantastici, sempre sorridenti, ti facevano sentire a casa. Billy ogni giorno organizzava delle attività tra cui il giro in laguna, piuttosto che la serata bbq ed erano tutte validissime e divertenti. Probabilmente il miglior alloggio in Sri Lanka

La stanza era davvero nuovissima per cui mancavano comodini ed un mobile per o vestiti, ma è solo questione di tempo prima che arrivino

Die Lage der Unterkunft war Top. Es war alles sehr neu. Hervorzuheben sind die Mitarbeitenden. Billie ist ein offener Mensch der seinen Gästen sehr viel bietet. Gratis Scootersafari, Lagoon-Tour und gemeinsames BBQ am Abend. Die Zimmer waren sauber und das Frühstück abwechslungsreich und sehr gut! Wir waren erst 7 Tage nach der Eröffnung dort, ein paar Sachen waren noch ausständig, wir waren aber so schon sehr zufrieden!

Beim Frühstück wird es mit den Sitzgelegenheiten manchmal etwas eng. Das ist aber nörgeln am höchsten Niveau.

Billy and his crew are amazing. Super laid-back, genuinely helpful, and full of good vibes. If you’re up for it, he’ll take you on some great adventures and loves to share his deep knowledge of Sri Lanka’s food, nature and culture. He’s one of those people who really make a place special.

To wspaniałe miejsce prowadzone przez miłośnika przyrody Billego. Spędziliśmy w Hakuna Matata 5 wspaniałych dni - 8 osób - 2 rodziny z czwórką nastoletnich dzieci. Mieliśmy okazję wynająć starsze klimatyczne chatki i 2 sypialniane w nowym budynku. Śniadania są bardzo smaczne i różnorodne. Obiekt Billego ma niesamowity klimat, jest położony przy Oceanie w pięknym ogrodzie urządzonym przez właściciela. Billi ugościł i traktował nas jak wieloletnich znajomych. Mieliśmy okazję pojechać z nim na lagunę w poszukiwaniu krokodyli i małp oraz zobaczyć w trakcie organizowanego przez niego Safari stado ok 50 dzikich słoni. To nie było zwykłe Safari bo lokalizacja dzikich zwierząt się zmienia i nie ma gwarancji, że się na nie trafi, lecz Billi dzięki temu, że darzony jest wśród lokalnej społeczności ogromnym szacunkiem, w trakcie wycieczki dostawał informacje gdzie mamy jechać co zaowocowało nieziemskim widokiem. Na koniec pobytu zorganizował nam wspaniałą kolację z grila, połączoną z nauką gotowania. Dzieci spędziły w Hakuna Matata jedne z najlepszych wakacji, a syn już zaczyna odliczać dni kiedy znowu przyjedzie do Arugam Bay na wakacje. Dziękujemy!!!!

We stayed in Brand new rooms - simple & lovely - owner has designed so they look lovely, and comfortable beds. It was lovely & welcoming with air con & 20sec walk to the beach. Sitting on balcony was very peaceful

Billie who runs this place makes it special. The dinner around the fire pit and scooter safari he provided were fabulous experiences. The breakfasts were also great! Location is perfect right near the beach, shops and restaurants.

The rooms are basic for the price. He has new rooms under construction which will be much nicer and more modern.

The host is very nice and will help you with anything. The breakfast is tailored to your wishes and could more lokal or western inspired. The location is a bit shielded towards the noise nearby areas

The rooms were slightly lower standard than expected, but nothing major that ruined the experience.

Billie is an absolute incredible host who made Arugam Bay our most favourite part of travelling Sri Lanka. Billie is laid back, personable, funny and he invests so much time into his guests making sure that he understands what they want to do and he will make sure it happens. If we could have, we would have definitely stayed longer here. Anyone who books Hakuna Matata is in for an incredible time at Arugam Bay. I’ll definitely get in touch with Billie next time we come back to Sri Lanka. A big thank you to Billie!!!! If I could’ve given him more stars, I would have!

Billie is an incredible host and takes care of everything you need. The hostel is just off the beach and the main street, but magically it's quiet, so you can rest well! Rooms have AC and fans and the staff are super hard workers and incredibly kind.

Billie is the G.O.A.T. You come to hakuna matata as guests but leave as friends. The rooms are clean, comfortable and have all the amenities as advertised. However, the real charm is Billie, the host who is your safari guide, chef and one stop conceirge for all things arugam. He goes above and beyond to help arrange all activities for you and made our stay unforgettable.

We were too early to enjoy the newly constructed rooms on the property which look super comfy and tasteful.

Super nette Menschen, optimale Lage.

The place ist just a few stars away from the beach, in a lively area. It’s easy to get there and there are numerous cafes and restaurants around. I really enjoyed our little terrace with some of the comfiest chairs I have ever sat on. Billie is very friendly and helpful.

From all of the accommodation we had during our trip, this was our least favourite unfortunately. We had much cheaper ones that were higher quality for a lower price and also had better services (e.g. free water, snacks, daily cleaning etc.) For a lot of people the easy-going community vibe might be perfect, it was just not our cup of tea. The garden is pretty but was largely a construction side during our stay. Which made it uncomfortable to stay there. Also there is a cafe next door that plays very loud Music in the morning.

We had a really good stay at Hakuna Matata thanks to our host who went above and beyond to give us a great experience of Arugambay !

Very relaxed . Our room was clean and staff were friendly and helpful organising transport and game park tour. Location excellent close to the beach , breaky was excellent and catered for gf diet also.Very close to great places to eat . Fantastic coffee directly opposite.

Ablageflächen beziehungsweise Möglichkeiten zum Aufhängen von Handtüchern wären noch toll.

Our stay was absolutely wonderful! Billie is an amazing host – incredibly friendly, funny, and dedicated. He takes a lot of time for his guests and puts in a great deal of effort to make sure you have a completely worry-free stay. I especially enjoyed the group activities with other guests, which created a warm, home-like atmosphere. The overall vibe in the hotel is very friendly and family-like. The entire staff was also extremely helpful, attentive, and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent as well – fresh, varied, and prepared with love. I can fully recommend this hotel and would happily come back anytime!
