Bay Dreams Beach Hotel & Surf Camp

We had a really nice stay here. What we appreciated the most is the owner (Iqbal)'s availability and hospitality. He cooked breakfast for us himself and took his time to chat with us everytime he had the chance. The room was very spacious, and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and different everyday, I particularly appreciated the fresh fruit!

The pool is small, and I didn't feel very comfortable sharing it with other guests, especially large families with kids, but to be honest it was not such a big deal. After all, when you are in Arugam Bay you basically spend most of your time at the beach!

Super große saubere Zimmer. Marmorboden und schönes großes Bad.mit heißesm Wasser.. alles ganz neu! Gepflegter sehr schöner Pool. Wunderbares Frühstück.. Chef des Hotels kochte super heiße Omeletten mit Gemüse und Palatschinken mit Banane - Kokosfüllung. ....Gekühlte Getränke.nke im Kühlschrank auf der Frühstücksterrasse. Viele junge Surfer übernachten hier.. Nur wenige Meter zum Strand.

The property was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and always wanted to help with booking surf lessons or safari trips. We had dinner at the property with some other couples on the first night and the bbq food was amazing. It was a fantastic stay we were sad to leave Bay Dreams Beach Hotel.

Heerlijk en afwisselend ontbijt! Lief personeel dat voor je klaar staat! Ze denken graag met je mee en als je wat extra’s nodig hebt is dat geen probleem. Een prachtige kamer met een goed werkende airco. Heerlijke dagen hier gehad! Locatie is top alles is op loopafstand maar net buiten de drukte!

Jammer dat er geen bedjes aan het zwembad liggen, dat zou het verblijf nog net wat comfortabeler hebben gemaakt.

Brand-new hotel, very comfortable and beautifully equipped. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the service was excellent. A special mention for the surf teacher, which made our stay even better. We absolutely loved it and would definitely recommend it!

Sehr neues Hotel mit großen schönen Zimmern. Innhaber und Personal sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.

Trotz eigentlich ruhiger Lage abseids vom Zentrum war das Zimmer sehr hellhörig. Die am Samstag stattfindende Party am nahegelegenen Strand hat bis tief in die Nacht gedauert und wir konnten in der Nacht nur sehr schlecht schlafen.

Ver, nice host and staff, very new and big rooms with air condition and high quality. Lot of storage options, dirct pool access and only a few meters to the beach. Very calm at night (which is unusual for Sri Lanka). The food was exzellente. Very nice pool!

Everything is totally new. The swimming pool is amazing and the room is very big. The service is totally excellent, the team is super nice! Perfect location too!

Geweldige staf

Locatie is perfect, heel dichtbij het strand en vlakbij kleine supermarkten en veel restaurants. Er was een nieuw gebouw neergezet aan de overkant wat officieel pas geopend zou worden een paar dagen na onze aankomst. Deze nieuwe accommodatie beschikt over een zwembad, dat was erg fijn! Wij mochten als eerste gasten hier verblijven ipv " de oude locatie", fijn dat ze zelf openstonden voor feedback en dit juist wilden weten voor hun toekomstige gasten. De eigenaar en medewerkers zijn erg vriendelijk en zijn bereid om gelijk van alles voor je te doen. Ze bieden allerlei activiteiten aan, echter is dit niet altijd de meest voordelige prijs die je kan vinden.

Het ontbijt was matig, zeker vergeleken met andere accommodaties. Er is geen keus, je krijgt iets wat ze zelf bedenken, wel iedere dag iets anders.

Hospitality was second to none. Iqbal and the team were excellent- from answering any questions we had to providing free homemade cakes on our return from the beach. Great breakfast, with a different option every morning. Lovely gardens and a hammock to chill in. Fabulous.

I stayed at Bay Dreams Beach Hotel for almost two weeks and had a great experience from start to finish. Iqbal and his family gave me a very warm welcome and made me feel at home right away. The room was clean, had good air conditioning, and a separate bathroom with a shower. There was also a desk and chair, which was perfect since I had to do some work during my stay. Breakfast is included and was different every morning. Everything was delicious, and if you were still hungry, you could always ask for another serving. They also offer surf lessons and have surfboards available for rent, which is really convenient. The beach is only a two-minute walk away, making it easy to cool off in the ocean. I can highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Arugam Bay. Thanks to Iqbal and his family for making my stay so enjoyable!

We loved that the staff was very accommodative and helpful. The rooms were clean as well. They even let us do an early check in, which was great.

It’s too compact. The pictures don’t show how small the place it. We had slightly higher expectations.

The location is perfect—tucked away in a peaceful area, yet only a 5-minute walk from both the beautiful beach and the main street with its restaurants, cafés, and shops. Every morning we enjoyed walking to the beach to watch the stunning sunrise. The property itself is clean, well maintained, surrounded by a lovely garden, and also offers convenient laundry facilities, making it ideal for a relaxing stay. A very special thanks to our host, Iqbal, who is one of the kindest and most genuine people we have ever met. From the moment we arrived, he made us feel like family. He arranged our Kumana National Park safari at a great price, showed us the easiest way to reach Crocodile Rock, and recommended watching the sunset there—which was absolutely breathtaking. We spent over an hour talking about life and many other topics, and by the end of our stay, he felt more like a brother than a host. He even took me to the local market to buy authentic Sri Lankan spices to take back home. His kindness, generosity, and hospitality made our trip truly unforgettable. A heartfelt thank you to Aunty Vanitha and Perien for taking such wonderful care of us. Aunty Vanitha is the sweetest person—always smiling, cheerful, and incredibly caring. Every morning she prepared delicious homemade breakfasts with fresh juices, and we always looked forward to chatting with her. She never said no to anything we needed and made us feel completely at home. Perien was equally wonderful. Whenever we needed anything, he was always happy to help and made sure everything was arranged quickly and smoothly. Thank you, Iqbal, Aunty Vanitha, and Perien, for making our stay so special and memorable. We will definitely visit Arugam Bay again, and there is no question about where we'll stay.

Nothing to like everything bad except breakfast.

Small rooms. Stinky toilet. The pathetic condition of the bathroom one can't stand there for more than 5 mins. Who charges for complimentary water bottle..?

We were welcomed with the best juice and warm smiles. We stayed only two nights but would have liked to stay longer! The room is comfortable and the property is conveniently located near all the restaurants but far enough to enjoy a peaceful night sleep.

Really good location, walking distance to many bars, restaurants, and the beach is 2 mins walk. The rooms were cosy, good value for money. The breakfast was delicious, we had something different every day. The staff were so friendly and attentive, would recommend anyone to stay here.

The only downside was that we had lots of ants in the bathroom but it didn’t affect our stay too much.

El personal inmejorable. El matrimonio dueño del hotel siempre estaban pendientes de nosotros y de que estuviéramos bien, siempre con una sonrisa. Organizan excursiones, traslados, alquiler de motos, de tablas de surf, etc. Hacen un desayuno muy bueno local y unos zumos y lassies espectaculares. Las habitaciones muy cómodas y limpias con AC. Y un jardín muy bonito lleno de rosas, además de estar muy cerca de la playa. Todo genial

L’hostel est idéalement situé. Il est à moins de 5 minutes à pied de la plage où nous étions les seuls à l’eau (idéal pour faire du surf sans personne autour). Les hôtes sont très accueillants et gentils, et n’ont pas hésité à nous donner des bons plans ou à nous aider à organiser des déplacements ou activités à des prix très intéressants! Nous recommandons!

Nous avons passé un séjour absolument incroyable ici et nous ne pouvons que recommander cette guesthouse les yeux fermés. Dès notre arrivée, nous nous sommes sentis comme à la maison. Le propriétaire est extrêmement gentil, abordable et attentionné. Il accueille ses invités comme une véritable famille, ce qui rend l’expérience encore plus spéciale et authentique. Toutes les excursions que nous avons réservées avec lui étaient parfaitement organisées (cours de surf, safari, location de scooter,...). Tout s’est déroulé à merveille et nous avons vécu des expériences inoubliables grâce à ses conseils et à son aide. Il était toujours disponible pour nous aider, répondre à nos questions et s’assurer que nous passions le meilleur séjour possible au Sri Lanka. L’atmosphère de la guesthouse est chaleureuse, paisible et très familiale. C’était un vrai plaisir de séjourner ici, et cela restera l’un des meilleurs souvenirs de notre voyage. Die Unterkunft ist eine absolute Herzensempfehlung, sodass wir unseren Aufenthalt sogar noch spontan verlängert haben. Die Besitzer haben sich liebevoll um uns gekümmert. Jeden Tag gab es ein anderes frisch gekochtes Frühstück - immer mit einem frischen Saft mit Obst aus dem eigenen Garten. Igbal hat uns eine Safari, Surfstunden und den Weitertransport vermittelt. Danke für die schöne Zeit!

Hôtes adorables, toujours prêts à rendre service, disponible et à l'écoute.La Guest house est très agréable et on s'y sent vraiment bien, elle est située à quelques mètres de la plage au calme et proche du centre également. Activités et transports réservés avec la guest house et tout était super. Je recommande !

Das Personal - also der Chef war super zuvorkommend. Es gab einen Saft zum ankommen. Es konnten dort Aktivitäten gebucht werden. Es gab einen Kühlschrank für alle zur Nutzung. Es gab ein Moskito Netz und außen einen Bereich wo dann das fruhstuck gebracht wurde. War alles in allem ok aber sind nach einer Nacht weiter

The host was really nice! We got upgraded to a bigger room because my partner is very tall. Breakfast was also really nice! Different every morning:) nice restaurants and the beach were closeby. They also helped us with travels by taxi all over Sri Lanka for a reasonable price!!

We loved having the hammock to chill after surf lessons but the highlight was the hosts who were so welcoming and helped us organise everything we needed.

Los desayunos preparados con amor por Marita nos recuperaban la energía después de una larga sesión de surf i las habitaciones limpias y acogedoras nos daban el sueño reparador que necesitábamos. Enserio , un alojamiento que nunca olvidaremos por lo bien que hemos estado. Encima la distribución de las habitaciones favorece a que puedas hablar con los vecinos mientras descansas en la hamaca y así poder conocer y conectar con gente, que es lo que todos buscamos. Ikbal ! Wat een ontzettend aardige lieve warm hartige eigenaren! Wij hebben het hier zo naar ons zin gehad! Heerlijk ontbijt elke dag weer! Elke dag weer hebben ze een glimlach en lachen ze. Wij hebben oprecht echt genoten van hun en de plek. Wij missen ze nu al!

Die Unterkunft liegt sehr gut gelegen, fast direkt am Strand. Der Gastgeber ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit und bietet auch zu einem fairen Preis auch verschiedene Attraktionen an wie z.B. Safari, Lagoon boat trip, Surfing lessons. Es gibt einen Waschservice und er geht auf spezielle Frühstückswünsche ein.

Die Zimmer waren sehr sauber und gut durchdacht, das Frühstück war lecker und die Gastgeber waren sehr, sehr herzlich.

La chambre est basique mais suffisante. Il est agréable d’avoir un espace extérieur à soi ( hamac et banc devant chaque chambre ). Mais plus important Toute l’équipe était parfaite et incroyable ! Aux petits soins pour nous aider à organiser au mieux nos activités ( safari, changé d’argent, cours surf, docteur, massage) et pour prendre soin de nous notamment avec d’excellents petits déjeuner et de petites attention tout au long de la journée ! Il régnait une parfaite ambiance, joyeuse mais au calme, loin des bruits de la fête et à 30 mètre de la plage. Si nous revenons à arugam bay nous reviendrons chez Sir Iqbal pour qui rien n’est impossible. Merci mille fois à tous

50 Meter van het strand, voor het ontbijt de eerste golven nemen (surfen voor gevorderden). Het verblijf lag letterlijk tussen het strand en de hoofdstraat waar veel te beleven viel. Op wandelafstand van de lagune waar je elke avond wordt getrakteerd met een prachtige zonsondergang

Bay dreams is a fantastic hotel and Iqbal and his staff work really hard to make you feel welcome and happy with your stay. We were in Arugam bay for 4 days and the room was perfect for everything we needed (our room had AC and a fan). The hotel is right as you enter arugam bay and is in the main strip but not right in the bars and restaurants but Everything is very accessible by foot and tuktuk. The breakfasts we received were delicious and it was so nice to have it round the table with other guests!! Iqbal has a friend who provides surf lessons. Raheem did our lesson for two people and takes you to a quieter beach away from other surf schools if you’re wanting more chilled experience. And for a very good price. We loved Bay dreams and would 100% go back.

Struttura bellissima , a due passi dalla spiaggia ,vicinissima al centro di arugam bay ma in una zona tranquillissima . Camere molto ampie con amaca e giardinetto esterno , pulizia impeccabile . Il Proprietario ci ha organizzato una lezione di surf al mattino presto , un safari . Servizio laudry. Colazione diversa in due mattine diverse . Le signore sono di una dolcezza unica . Fantastico.

Es war ein sauberes Zimmer und die Lage war ebenfalls sehr gut. Man ist in 2 min am Strand und kann in das Stadtzentrum laufen. Besonders das Frühstück war sehr lecker und jeden Morgen etwas anderes selbstgemachtes.

We hadden een driepersoons kamer. Het eenpersoonsbed was een kinderbed waar een volwassen persoon eigenlijk niet inpast. De prijskwaliteit was niet echt in verhouding voor de kamer.

Schöne kleine Anlage von einem sehr engagierten Besitzer. Zur Begrüßung gab es direkt einen leckeren frischen Saft. Der Besitzer des Hostels gibt bei Bedarf viele Infos und organisiert Weitertransfer etc Fußläufig in 1 Minute am Strand. Die Preise in Agurambay haben insgesamt ein höheres Niveau und es ist touristisch einiges los. Ein schöner Aufenthalt.

Wir waren 6 Tage hier und es hat uns super gefallen. Das Frühstück war abwechslungsreich und lecker. Der Gastgeber war äußerst freundlich und immer für einen da. Den Surfkurs bei Raheem können wir sehr empfehlen. Wir würden gerne wiederkommen, wenn es uns nochmal nach arugam bay verschlägt. Empfehlung geht raus!

Iqbal and his family are genuinely excellent hosts and from the first moment of check-in until we checked out they made us feel so welcome and looked after. The rooms are comfortable, very clean and have ample storage. The breakfast is delicious and varied, it was a different vegetarian breakfast each morning and each one was delicious. Iqbal also has many local contacts who can help arrange transport and surfing which is very useful. Thank you for having us! We hope to come back one day.

We absolutely loved our stay here! The room was spotless, the hospitality was beyond amazing, and the breakfast was simply delicious. Iqbal went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed – from arranging surf lessons and tuk-tuk rides to organizing a driver for the airport – and all of this at an incredibly good price. It was worth every penny and more!

Der Gastgeber Iqbal und die 3 Damen waren immer sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend, sodass wir uns sehr wohl fühlten. Das Organisieren von Mopeds und Surfstunden (bei Mr. Take it easy - auch sehr zu empfehlen!!) war kein Problem. Die Unterkunft liegt ruhig gelegen, man ist aber trotzdem gleich auf der Hauptstraße und am Strand. Vielen Dank, wir hatten eine tolle Zeit!

Das Bay Dreams Beach Hotel ist genau richtig für einen Strandurlaub. Ein paar Minuten zu Fuß zum Strand, ausgezeichnetes Frühstück. Zimmer mit Klimaanlage und Iqbal, der Besitzer ist freundlich und zuvorkommend. Alles in allem ein gelungener Urlaub.

De eigenaar was super aardig en hielp ons met al onze vragen. Het ontbijt was lekker en als je zin hebt in iets specifiek kan je het altijd vragen! Zo is hij speciaal nog voor ons naar de supermarkt gegaan om bepaald fruit te halen, super lief! De kamer was basic maar vergelijkbaar met de foto's.

Het ligt een beetje aan de zijkant van Arugam bay dus sommige dingen zijn wat verder loop maar het zal nooit langer dan 20 minuten zijn. Het strand is wel weer mega dichtbij!

The stay was easy, you are made to feel at home. Were happy to accommodate any requests made. Iqbal could point you in the right direction with any questions you have. Guests even receive an impromptu birthday celebration.

J'ai super bien dormi les 3 nuits. Tout le monde est adorable. Le gérant m'a offert mon gâteau d'anniversaire avec les ballons, la musique, les bougies. Le khottu était très bon. Les 3 déjeuners également et diversifiés: sambol, lentilles curry jour 1, porridge aux fruits jour 2 et très bons hoppers jour 3.. la douche n'est pas chaude mais n'est pas froide non plus. Le jus de mange offert à l'arrivée fait plaisir. Nous avons eu le scooter pour 2000 RP. Pour le tuk tuk qui nous a conduit à la station de bus à moins de 10 min, j'ai dû négocier le prix car il demandait 1000 RP et je déteste négocier. J'ai passé un excellent séjour, merci(!

De eigenaar was erg vriendelijk en hielp ons met tuktuk’s zodat we niet te veel betaalden. De kamer was schoon en de hadden een klein terras wat erg fijn was. Het ontbijt was lekker en voldoende, je kan altijd bij vragen en het was ook elke dag iets anders.

Ik vond de badkamer iets minder proper, maar dat ligt aan de manier waarop ze gebouwd is en niet aan het schoonmaken en is in Sri Lanka wel vaker een dingetje.

Die Besitzer:innen waren sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Das Frühstück war mega lecker, wenn jemand vegi ist dies am anfang am besten erwähnen. Die Unterkunft liegt an einem guten Standort und ist sauber.

Sehr lieber Host und wundervolles Team mit mega leckerem Frühstück, das jeden Tag eine Überraschung war. Die Zimmer sind grosszügig und dank Klimaanlage lässt es sich gut schlafen. Klare Empfehlung!

Der Chef und die angestellten Frauen waren sehr hilfsbereit und herzlich. Sie haben uns alle Wünsche erfüllt und mit Gesten wie Regenschirm ausleihen, als es regnete, ein Muffin zwischendurch, nette Gespräche, sehr zu einen schönen Aufenthalt beigetragen. Wir haben verlängert.

In einem Badezimmer hatte es kein Fenster, war stickig.

The staff were exceptional, me and my sister booked for 2 nights and ended up staying for nearly a week. Everyone was so helpful and friendly, breakfast was delicious and each room we stayed in had everything we needed! Hosts organised surf lessons and taxis for us and our friends with no problems and great pricing! Very close to the beach and a short walk to town. Would stay again!

Heerlijke locatie op 50m van het strand. Super aardige host die je graag helpt met allerlei tours of surf lessen, allen goede prijs en goed geregeld. Elke dag een andere ontbijtje. Prima kamer, wij hadden met eigen veranda en airco.

We had the best time with the host Iqbal in Arugam Bay!!! Iqbal is an amazing host. He is kind, joyful and will truly do anything to make sure you have the best time. Iqbal knows the best places in town and he makes delicious dinners (or BBQ with fresh fish) and breakfast, adjusted to your liking! He has the best tips for activities and where to go for a night out. Nothing was asked too much for him. He was engaged with our group and really wanted us to have the best time possible. Besides Iqbal being the best host we could have wished for, the accommodation was also great. It was clean, looked really nice and had a great location: it was next to the beach and a small walk away from center of Arugam Bay. It truly was a 10 out of 10 experience stating with Iqbal!

Iqbal and his family were so welcoming and helpful. We particularly enjoyed our conversations with Iqbal about the history of Arugum Bay. The garden around the accommodation is so lovely, we would sit out on the hammocks and watch the birds fly by. It's a short walk to an amazing restraunt named the Moon Garden and not far to main point where we surfed most mornings. Iqbal was very helpful arranging for tuk tuk rides to and from all different destinations. We hope to return some day.

Zentrale ruhige Lage. Die Gastgeber kümmern sich um alles. Die besten Buchungen bekommt man direkt vor Ort. Sehr herzliche Gastfreundschaft.

Während unseres einwöchigen Aufenthaltes wurde nicht 1 mal das Zimmer sauber gemacht. Dafür haben wir auf Nachfrage sofort frische Handtücher bekommen. Abends kann es an manchen Tagen etwas laut sein, es direkt neben dem Hotel eine Bar ist in der ein mal die Woche bis spät in die Nacht gefeiert wird.

This place was so great! Iqbal and the staff were so lovely, kind and generous. We were so grateful to be there. The breakfast was so delicious and different each morning. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. So close to the beach and town we had easy access to everything. Iqbal even helped us out with a taxi service. Would love to stay here again!

I stayed at this hotel for two weeks and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The location is ideal – not right in the busy center, but also not too far out. It strikes the perfect balance: peaceful and quiet, yet still very easy to get everywhere quickly. The rooms are clean and well-maintained, and the breakfast is consistently delicious. But what really makes this place special are the hosts. They are incredibly kind, warm, and genuinely helpful. You can feel that they care about making your stay as pleasant as possible – and they succeed in doing just that. Their hospitality made my time here truly enjoyable. I would come back anytime and can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing and welcoming place to stay. Ich war zwei Wochen in diesem Hotel und habe mich rundum wohlgefühlt. Die Lage ist ideal – nicht mitten im Trubel, aber auch nicht zu weit draußen. Man hat seine Ruhe, ist aber trotzdem schnell überall, was perfekt ist. Die Zimmer sind sauber und gepflegt, und das Frühstück ist jeden Tag sehr lecker. Was dieses Hotel aber wirklich besonders macht, sind die Gastgeber. Sie sind unglaublich herzlich, hilfsbereit und einfach sehr liebe Menschen. Man merkt, dass sie sich wirklich Mühe geben, den Aufenthalt so angenehm wie möglich zu machen – und das gelingt ihnen auch. Durch ihre Gastfreundschaft wurde mein Aufenthalt hier zu etwas ganz Besonderem. Ich würde jederzeit wiederkommen und kann dieses Hotel nur wärmstens weiterempfehlen.

Total liebenswert hier. Auch alle Touren konnte man hier super einfach und für einen guten Preis buchen. Haben noch eine Nacht verlängert weil der Ort einen tollen Vibe hat. Der Besitzer fragt oftmals, ob alles in Ordnung ist oder man etwas benötigt ohne dabei aufdringlich zu wirken.

Très bon séjour au Bay Dreams Hotel, l'accueil était parfait avec des hôtes disponibles et toujours agréables. La chambre était grande avec tout ce qu'il fallait dedans, le petit déjeuner était excellent et variait tous les jours. Merci pour votre accueil !

The property is simply beautiful. The vibe is magical.. the backyard garden is a gem and it’s very lovely to hang out on the hammock while working or just relaxing. The staff is the nicest ever, so sweet, helpful and professional. Very good breakfast that changes everyday and amazing fresh fruit juices. They help you with everything you need. I would definitely recommend this place and I’m 100% staying here if I ever come back to Arugam bay

Everything was perfect!

On a passé un merveilleux moment ! Le petit déjeuner est excellent il change tous les jours, le chambres sont grandes propres ça sent bon, on devait rester 1 semaine et on a prolongé 2 semaines de plus. La plage est juste à côté et c’est super bien situé. Le patron sa femme la grand mère et le chef de cuisine sont juste adorables, super serviables et attentifs. Le cuisinier fait super bien a manger, souvent du poisson frais pêché le même jour c’est vraiment excellent! Tu peux aussi demander tout ce que tu veux manger et ils te le font avec plaisir. Ils proposent aussi pleins d’activité, ils te l’organisent super rapidement! C’est le meilleur endroit où on a logé durant notre voyage on est triste de partir.

Bardzo miły i pomocny gospodarz, przywitał nas sokiem, śniadania były lokalne i smaczne. Warto też skorzystać z usług kucharza - w dobrej cenie dostaliśmy ogromnego i smacznego grillowanego tuńczyka z frytkami, surówkami, ryżem, sosami i warzywami w sosie. Safari oraz transport do Ella zorganizowany przez gospodarza były super. Na koniec dostaliśmy olej kokosowy w prezencie. Polecamy.

The hospitality of the owner and the staff was outstanding, they were very warm and help-full. The food cooked by the chef was incredible, we loved every meal that he cooked. We really recommend this accommodation for young tourists looking for a local place to stay, near the city centre and with a staff into taking care of their guests. Also the little garden in front of our caban was really pretty and peacefull.

The matress of the simple bed was very soft so wasn’t that comfortable. But the big bed was really comfortable.
